Week 5 – Seminar: Software-Generated Information for
Decision Making
Software-Generated Information
in Hospitality
Information Systems Used in the Hotel Industry
Information systems in the Hotel industry refer to computer systems in a hotel that supply information about that hotel’s business operations.
Information systems typically include all computerised systems which are used to gather data continuously both for use internally and externally.
Information systems play a crucial role in the hotel industry as they facilitate planning, management, overall operations of the hotels as well as policymaking.
So where and how can we use hotel management software and why are they useful?
Financial Reports: A competitive hotel property management software provides you with financial and business reports regarding your hotel business. You can learn about room occupancy ratios, the duration of stay of your guests, payment collection methods, and similar statistical forecasts for your hotel.
2. Hotel Administration: Hotel property management software helps you learn and execute marketing drills, send promotional emails, organise staff training, and develop in-house communication systems to bring ease in the processes.
Food service management: Hospitality management Software can not only help send real-time information to kitchen units but can also track inventory, order goods automatically and assess profitability and improvement areas.
Accounting: With the options to carry out accounting, you can assess profits to cost ratios, prepare bills, and also make payments to vendors and travel agents.
Online Bookings and Reservations: With online booking and reservation options, you can manage your hotel website, offer room rates to customers, put new offers and deals over the internet, and book rooms for your customers based on pre-deposit policies.
Check-Ins and Check-Outs: Hotel management software
allows you to manage check-ins and check-outs of your
customers. You can allot rooms, print check-in cards,
receive online payments, and extend stays of your
customers through a single software.
Rate Management: It is very important to manage your rates for the successful running of your business. You can devise plans and provide your customers with variable room rates and offer discount deals.
Housekeeping: You can develop lists of check-ins and check-outs and manage their housekeeping. The software allows you to maintain communication with your housekeeping staff. You can assign rooms to maids, develop their task lists, and review room status before and after the housekeeping service.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Introduction of Hotel Management System:
The Hotel Information System module is the application software that help you to monitoring and
manipulate the resources in the Hotel. The system provide you standard management system for
you to enhance the management resources in Hotel. The system provide service in computer assist
in customer billing and cash control, Room Services, Room numbering, production line(kitchen)
and service line(dining room) between the contact and operate/manage the monitoring operation
of Hotel.
The system is suit to sophisticated management Hotel that need information system to manage the
operating progress.
The Main Function of Hotel Management System
Management,
The choice of computer systems,
Operating system between the Rooms and Billing Table.
Service system between waiter and customer
Importance of Management Information System for Hotels
Hotel are built of complex systems for Room allotments, storing, saving data for billing and
assurance, preparing and selling food and services. The well-being of a Hotel depends on its
management information systems, which coordinate everything from scheduling personnel to
customer service. Hotel management information systems should make a Hotel more profitable as
well as a better place for guests to get entertain.
Point of Management Systems
Every Hotel needs a strategy for taking Guests, delivering information to the billing table and
charging guests for their booking. These systems can be as simple as handwritten notes or as
complicated as computer systems that send orders to the Billing table and tally charges for each
Room. Simple systems are less prone to technical difficulties, but they cannot process information
as efficiently as smoothly functioning computer systems. Hotel point of management systems
should also include infrastructure for processing credit card payments.
Communication Systems
Hotels depend on communicating information between different divisions, such as servers relaying
services to waiters staff and working staff letting room know that their orders are ready. In addition,
Hotel communication systems should enable staff to connect room booking with the customers
who is going to come, and convey details about special requests and special needs. Hotel

management must also develop information systems for communicating with both the front and
the back of the house about issues such as low focus on particular service or to improve services.
Human Resources Management Systems
Staffing a hotel can be tricky because demand for services will likely fluctuate dramatically, often
due to variables that you cannot track. Identify any variables you do observe that influence traffic
in your hotel, such as weather and day of the week. Build a weekly schedule to staff your restaurant
in accordance with these variables, such as scheduling additional staff on Saturday night if that is
your busiest shift. Compile data about bills and employee hours to determine a profitable ratio of
employee hours to bill totals. Hotel personnel training systems are also vital to success, ensuring
that employees know company protocol and systems, and are capable of delivering a high quality
Service: a comprehensive employee manual detailing information that each member of your staff
should know.
Financial Management Systems
Hotel financial management systems should navigate issues of cash flow and keeping track of
costs. A hotel needs sufficient cash flow to give services and pay employees, or it cannot continue
to function. In addition, hotels need to earn profit by controlling costs and maximizing revenue.
Hotel financial management systems should include cash flow projections forecasting income and
expenses for upcoming months, and developing strategies to compensate for cash flow shortfalls
such as a business line of credit or business credit card.
