Hook Maker For Essays
Crafting an essay on the subject of a "Hook Maker for Essays" can present a unique set of
challenges. The difficulty lies in striking the right balance between creativity and relevance. The
hook, being the introductory element, is tasked with capturing the reader's attention and setting
the tone for the entire essay. This requires a keen understanding of the topic at hand, as well as a
creative flair to ensure that the opening is both engaging and aligned with the overall theme.
One challenge is the constant pressure to be original. In a world saturated with information,
finding a hook that stands out can be a daunting task. It demands a thorough exploration of
various angles, an in-depth analysis of the target audience, and a creative mindset to unearth a
captivating and fresh approach.
Moreover, there's the challenge of avoiding clichГ©s. Readers are quick to recognize overused
hooks, and falling into the trap of common phrases can undermine the essay's effectiveness.
Striking a balance between familiarity and innovation is crucial to keeping the reader's interest
without resorting to tired and trite expressions.
Additionally, a successful hook should seamlessly transition into the main body of the essay.
Ensuring a smooth flow from the introduction to the core arguments requires meticulous
planning and a clear understanding of the essay's structure. It's essential to provide a hook that
not only captivates the audience but also aligns with the subsequent content, creating a cohesive
narrative.
In the end, the challenge lies not only in creating an attention-grabbing hook but also in weaving
it seamlessly into the fabric of the entire essay. Success hinges on the ability to merge creativity
with precision, making the essay a compelling journey from the very first sentence.
For those finding this task overwhelming, it's worth noting that help is available. Similar essays,
along with a plethora of writing assistance, can be easily accessed on platforms like

How Did Nelson Mandela Contribute To Civil Disobedience
Mandela was arrested in a countrywide police swoop on 5 December 1955, which
led to the 1956 Treason Trial (https://www.nelsonmandela.org/content/page
/biography, website, Accessed 27/6/16). The trial went on for nearly five years
and during this time period led to the militant faction of the ANC to split with the
ANC in 1959 to form the Pan Africanist Congress. However on 21 March 1960,
police killed 69 unarmed people due to a protest in Sharpeville against the racist
laws directed to the black Africans. This protest led to the banning of both the ANC
and the PAC which led to the movement losing much of it militant support. Mandela
and 155 other activists were acquitted in 1961 and led to Mandela believing that
armed struggle was the only way... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mandela quoted There are many people who feel that it is useless and futile for us to
continue talking peace and non violence suggesting that non violent protesting will
not attract the government s attention. Mandela undergoes military training in secret

Africa in July 1962 led to his five years of imprisonment with hard labour for
illegally leaving the country. Due to Mandela s involvement in radical, violent
attacks, Mandela and seven other members were sentence to life imprisonment to
Robben Island, narrowly avoiding capital punishment at the Rivonia trail. During
the trials, Mandela quoted in his Rivonia trial speech I have cherished the ideal of
a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and
with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But
if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die. This displays the motives of
Mandela into changing the South African society to be equal for
Lekythos Essays
The Lekythos
A lekythos is an ancient Greek vase made of ceramic; the plural of lekythos is
lekythoi (Reference #2). It has a narrow neck, single handle, and is tall with a small,
deep mouth (Reference #7). The lekythos was used as a flask, used to hold olive oil
and perfumes (Reference #1), and were developed in ancient Athens during the fifth
century. In Classical Athens, lekythoi were painted in white ground with figurative
scenes. White ground is a form of art used by Athenians in which they created the
vase, fired it, and then the lekythos was painted in white. The figures and scenes were
then painted on top of the white ground. This method meant that the paintings did not
last as well, but were very beautiful in their original ... Show more content on

Secondly, some lekythoi were filled with scented oils and perfumes and placed
around the body, while others were set along the approach to the grave or placed
beside the tomb (Reference #5). This was done as a part of the religious focus of
the burial ceremony, and was given as an offering. Lastly, a lekythos would often
be brought to the gravesite or tomb of the deceased after the burial. It was very
important to ancient Greeks to visit the gravesite of loved ones quite often, and
when they visited, they would bring offerings to the deceased such as fruit, a feast,
or a lekythos filled with olive oil or perfume (Reference #6).
In time, the Lekythos was developed into a much larger version of itself, being
called Huge Lekythoi . These were often left on top of a grave, or beside a tomb
opening, almost as an ancient grave marker (Reference #7). Though they would
not be inscribed with any words or the name of the deceased, they would have a
painted scene depicting the deceased, some scene from their life, or a scene
depicting a sport or activity the deceased greatly enjoyed. Many lekythoi have been
recovered and are currently housed in museums all over the world. Though many are
not in their original glory, most have been reconstructed. New lekythoi have been
made in Greece and are still used today in some small Greek communities during the
preparation of the body, and left by
Flood In Europe Essay
Floods in Europe
In February 1995 large areas of the mainland countries in Europe were deluged with
water, and floods threatened the local people and towns. The River Rhine and its
many tributaries burst their banks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany,
Its tributaries include the rivers Meuse, Main Moselle and Ruhr. The floods were
devastation to Europe, killing people and animals, and destroying farmland and
building developments.
If you had lived in Holland at the time you would have been in big trouble. It is a
country where 75% of the land is below sea level and as a result, 15,000,000 live
below sea level. The dykes and levees were the only life savers the Dutch had. ...

There was too much water, and it came all too quickly. Some of the water was
retained by the soil, some was absorbed by vegetation, and a small percentage
evaporated. One may think that the dykes are sufficiently high to hold the huge
amount of water however they couldn t hold the amount that was produced from
the mountains and rainfall. Dykes are made from sand and clay and act like a
sponge, absorbing water. The longer the exposure there is a greater risk that the
dyke might collapse. If the dykes did collapse the land would be submerged under 20
feet of water.
[IMAGE][IMAGE] Many families tried to evacuate their houses and for some
their farmland. However many dairy farms didn t want to lose their cows in the
floods. So most people decided to take these cows in transport to their next
destination. When they started off on their journey, everyone was evacuating too,
so as you can imagine the traffic was awful. It took over 8 hours for some people to
arrive to their destination and by then the cows were stressed and tired. Due to
their condition they didn t produce very much milk and the owners lost even more
money. In some cases if you were very unlucky the people before using the trucks to
carry their cattle had foot disease. So some cows caught the disease and couldn t
produce any more milk, so the people lost even more money!

Macbeth Evil
Shakespeare s play Macbeth shows the roots of all evil, our own human nature. The
play is centered on the coexistence of good and evil. Macbeth, unlike any other
Shakespeare play has the protagonist convert to evil. In the beginning of the play,
Macbeth is shown as a hero in the Scottish army, that is ironic because Macbeth
defeats a traitor and he himself becomes one later. Macbeth knows his place in the
world. He is fully capable of distinguishing between right and wrong. Macbeth
purposely disregards his own moral judgment to rise to power which is again ironic
and goes against his own beliefs. Macbeth stands as a symbol for Satan s sin of
ambition. Like Satan, Macbeth s thirst for power and ambition drives him to commit
evil.Contrary to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The king does this so that the governor will surrender and Henry can conquer
Harfleur without a bloody battle. Although his speech sounds menacing, a quality
not found in the characteristics of a hero, it is only a tactic Henry uses to achieve
the outcome he wants. Henry s reluctance to make good on his promise of this
massacre is proven when he states, use mercy to them all (III.3. 54). Henry is not
the monster he appears to be; instead, he is a leader using any method he can to gain
land while keeping his troops out of harm s way. At the final Battle of Agincourt,
Henry s ragged army expresses concern about their odds against the French; the
British are outnumbered five to one. Henry s Cousin Westmoreland. Henry, being
the talented rhetorician that he is, soothes the army s fears by delivering the
inspirational speech: [...] If we are marked to die, we are now To do our country
loss; and if to live, The fewer men, the greater share of honor. [...]But if it be a sin to
covet honor, I am the most offending soul alive. (IV.3. 21 30). Henry explains that
there is a certain amount of honor to go around once the British defeat the French. It
is fortunate of those soldiers that are at the battle that they do not have to share that
honor with men who are fearful and therefore unworthy of honor. Henry says that
honor is most important to him and that it should also be important to

Narrative Essay On Baseball
There are only a certain amount of hours in the day consumed with everyday life
tasks that make up how one is are and how one lives. Growing up, time becomes
more precious and focused upon. Although, what if there was a way to escape from
reality and lose track of all time? Captivated by baseball, time is nonexistent when
the pressure is on and the crowds turn into silence with nobody surrounding me.
Developing skills overtime for baseballgrowing up has aided me to lose track of the
moment. Every timeI step out on the diamond, my teeth like spikes sink slowly into
the clay, and I escape to a different world existent without time. Before the game,
coach tells me to study the pitchers habits so I can guess what he will throw next.

Standing in place to hit, I placed my body in the batter s box, and overlooked the
bright green field. Hearing no sound but the dirt brushing against my metal spikes,
and my gloves rubbing against my bat to rotate it in position, I took a deep breath,
exhaling air like it was mist. Overviewing the opponents, nerves began to fill my
body with a shiver that overcame my head, and my legs started to shake as the
count went down 0 1. After, the pitcher threw a ball, and I seemed to recall his
pattern, that being the same count as the hitter before me, and on this count 1 1 he
threw a curveball so I told myself to expect the same pitch based off of his method.
Reassuring my nerves, my legs began to stand still in the knowledge of his
repetition. When the pitcher came set, it felt like time froze and only him and I
stood on the field tunnel vision. The sixty foot depth of perception grew in slow
motion as the pitcher picked up his leg in the stretch beginning his throwing
motion. The seventy five mph curveball dropped right into my wheelhouse coming
towards me as if it was a floating beach ball. Tracking the ball to the sweet spot of
my bat, again time is frozen at contact. The ball then sails over the left fielder and
lands on the warning track while bouncing the fence. Looking back I round first base
and I turn my head in the glance to see my coach sending my teammate for the

Man and the Cosmos cannot exist separately. They have always been the two

all mankind has sought to pave the way in the universe. They wanted to know what
there is out there. After all, human curiosity, it is pushed on the development of

Why The Bathroom Is A Basic Necessity
Going to the bathroom is a basic necessity that everyone does. With this necessity
comes the need for bathrooms so the person can conduct their business in a safe and
clean environment. However, this right is not available to everyone in some
cultures. Women in India still lack a proper place to relieve themselves on a daily
basis, which forces them to defecate in the open, causing rape, illness and health
problems, improper feminine hygiene, shame and humility.
Rape and vulnerability are some of the greatest concerns the women face. In May
of 2014, in Katra village in Uttar Pradesh state, two sisters were found hanging in a
mango tree after they were gang raped (Hjelmgaard). The two girls, aged 14 and 15,
had gone into the fields near where they lived because there was no toilet in their
home (Hjelmgaard). The girls deaths could have been easily prevented if they had
a toilet in their home (McCarthy). These girls were not alone. Goldberg adds that,
Every 30 minutes a woman in India is raped, and it s often the impoverished women
who relieve themselves in the open who are targeted. To avoid being preyed upon,
the women now go in pairs or groups to the fields to relieve themselves. As another
precaution, they go before dawn and then hold it until dark (McCarthy).
Holding in your shit or urine can lead to more problems. Holding in urine
encourages bacterial growth and increases the risk of developing a urinary tract
infection (UTI). Frequent UTIs can also lead to
All Quiet On The Western Front And The Things They
Carried
In Edwin StarrВґs song War , we will examine the authorВґs use of diction and
figurative language and connect it to a theme we explored in the novel and short
story All Quiet on the Western Front and The Things They Carried respectively.
The song was released in 1970, which was an era in which the Vietnam War was
existent. This song was a pop song, which reached #1 position on billboards in
America, with the message of protest against war. Apart from its exciting chorus and
upbeat tempo, it has a few memorable lines that we can connect to the themes we see
in All Quiet on the Western Frontand The Things They Carried . Lines and phrases
such as War means tears to thousands of mothers eyes when their sons go off to fight
and lose their lives ( War ), War has caused unrest within the younger generation.

The first quote War means tears to thousands of mothers eyes when their sons go off
to fight and lose their lives ( War ) shows that war brings destruction, unsettlement
and sadness not only to the soldiers themselves that die or get injured, but also to
their close friends and family, especially their mothers. It shows that there is not only
bloodshed in war on the battlefields, but also that their houses become battlefields in
which there is no bloodshed, but rather tearshed. This quote reminds one of All Quiet

amputation. When Paul goes on his leave, he has the task of telling Kemmerich s

The Political Theory Of The Chilean Economy
Despite the small size of the Chilean economy and its rather relative weight in the
global economy, several accounts acknowledge that Chile was at the forefront of
the worldwide neoliberal experiment since the mid 1970s under the civic military
dictatorship that ruled the nation between 1973 and 1990 (Harvey, 2005a; Klein,
2007; McChesney, 1999; Paley, 2001; Stiglitz, 2002). Indeed, the Chilean
authoritarian regime not only has radically applied neoclassical theory, but also
turns it into the founding philosophy of a new society (ValdГ©s, 1989: 35).
Actually, Chile has been a warm laboratory for the most classic economic trends
since the 1950s, when the so called Klein Saks mission was hired by the Chilean
government to analyze the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Specific political projects embodying different schools of thought have fueled three
waves of neoliberalism, with both economic and ethical implications (Ong, 2006).
In a first moment, Hayek and his Homo economicus as the basis of a free political
order and Friedman and Becker have philosophically supported what Thatcher
(Thatcherism) and Reagan (Reagonimics) implemented in the United Kingdom and
in the United States in the late 1970s and the 1980s. The Clinton (US) and the Blair
(UK) administrations in the 1990s represent promote the individual internalization of
self governamentality or self responsibility. In this second wave of neoliberalism,
the broad social, political, economic, and cultural principles underneath
neoliberalism became common sense and were naturalized as an individual action.
Finally, entrepreneurialism or the communitarian ideal of responsibility is a third
wave of neoliberalism. Therefore, neoliberal policies of shrinking the state are
accompanied by a proliferation of techniques to remake the subjects ; so, neoliberal
logic requires free, self managing, and self enterprising individuals in different
spheres of everyday life (Ong, 2006: 14).
Nevertheless, neoliberalism seems to carry multiple meanings and imply different
material conditions, institutional frames, and symbolic imaginaries (Ong, 2006),
depending not only on historical moments, political
Realist Lens
Under a Realist lens, World War I can be described as a conflict between
independent, unitary actors in an anarchic international system. A fundamental
principle in Realism Theory is that world politics and the laws that goes along with
it are inherently objective. In a Realist s perspective, the world is anarchic with no
visible system that restrains people from deferring to their baser, animalistic
instinct. In such an environment, it s kill or be killed, and under Realism,
rationalism takes precedent over morals or ideals as the way to avoid self
destruction (Morgenthau 1967). Unitary states ultimately seek self survival in this
anarchic world, and in the words of John J. Mearshimer, States fear each other [and]
regard each other with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead, constructivists argue that the most important aspect in deciphering
international relations is ideas and how they are interpreted. The Great War can thus
be view from a number of perspectives. Under a Marxist view it can be seen as a
conflict perpetuated by capitalistic tendencies of competition among the bourgeois
among Europe and fought by the oppressed proletariat. (Marx 13). It can be just as
likely to interpreted its outbreak as a family feud among the grand children of Queen
Victoria. For Constructivist Theory, ideas and norms dictate how states behave and
are only important when states deem it as important. Constructivism as a result is
based on much more abstract ideals than the other theories. Such can include
economics, as is the case for Marxism; it could also be based socially, such as the
claim that the European powers chose to go to war with each other in order to quell
unrest among their own populations, which at that time is becoming more and more
politically fragmented. As Alexander Wendt states in his article Anarchy is what
States Make of It , All theories of international relations are based on social theories
of the relationship between agency, process, and social structure. Social theories do
not determine the content of our international theorizing, but they do structure the
questions we ask about world politics and our approaches to answering those
questions. (Wendt 1992) This approach in short focuses on social constructs humans
project and how they relate to the way interactions take place. Because of the
interpretive flexibilities inherent in Constructivist Theory, WWI could be interpreted
a number of ways through Constructivist

Chapter 2 Literature Review 2.1Introduction This chapter discusses the theoretical
framework of the study and is divided into four main sections. The first section
describes the recent financial crisis or global economic recession. Section two
reviews any similarities between the recent crisis and previous crises. Section
three explores the measures taken by governments to prevent a reoccurrence of a
financial crisis Section four discusses FDI and mergers and acquisitions.
2.2Financial Crisis/Global Economic Recession As defined by Eichengreen and
Portes (1987) a financial crisis tends to be disruptions within financial markets and
are characterised by falling asset prices and bankruptcy/liquidation among debtors
which spread through the financial system, completely disrupting the markets
capacity to allocate capital. It is clear that the crisis had multiple causes such as
the financiers themselves especially those who claimed to have found a way to
expel risk where in fact they had only lost track of it. Regulators and bankers are
also to bear blame because they tolerated this recklessness. The macroeconomic
backdrop was very important as years of low inflation and stable growth nurtured
risk taking. Some research suggests that European banks should take blame as they
borrowed greedily in American money markets pre crisis and used the funds to buy
dodgy securities. All these factors together played a major role in the unravelling of
the recent financial crisis

American government always complies with Keynesian for a long time, and believes
that the reason that total social supply is not the same to total social demand is the
lack of effective demand (the analysis of American economy). So most of the
successive governments implement the expansionary deficit policies, in order to deal
with cyclical fluctuations, and stimulate effective demand artificially. Deficit policies
are easy to make economic bubble to stimulate the excessive consumption and
promote market false prosperity, especially in the financial markets, it also has
contributed to raise inflation rates. Once the bubble bursts, the economic crisis would
be coming.
Socialism is an economic system characterized by social ownership and cooperative
management of the means of production, and a political philosophy advocating such
a system (Wikipedia). In socialism, the government needs to control the whole market
in order to promote the productive power according to the current market situation.
The main economic strategies are based on the market and include more government
control than socialism. This is the best advantages of socialism because when the
economic crisis was coming, the government could adjust the macro control policies
and introduced a series of initiatives to expand domestic demand and promote
economic development. It achieved success quickly and efficiency. But, socialism is
easy to establish monopoly enterprise. These

Biology 156 3T1 Abstract
This lab deals with the transpiration rates in plants, specifically a tomato plant that
was used for this experiment. Transpiration is when water leaves a plant through the
stomata as water vapor while the stomata is capturing CO2 for photosynthesis. This
experiment used three different scenarios: a tomato plant with a light shining on it, a
tomato plant with wind blowing on it from a fan, and lastly a tomato plant with
nothing acting on it. The hypothesis is that the rate of transpiration will be fastest
with light, faster with wind, and slow with the control. This hypothesis was rejected
because the rate of transpiration is as follows with the wind having the fastest rate:
with light the rate was 7.60 mm/min, with wind 10.20 mm/min, and control 4.33 mm
/min. The cause of the wind having a faster transpiration rate than the light may have
been due to the surface area of the leaves on the tomato plants. The surface area of the
leaves for the wind experiment is 8,124mm2, and for the light is 7,740mm2.By doing
this transpiration experiment it helps one to see what happens in plants daily and
understand why it happens. Introduction
What is transpiration? Transpiration is when a plant absorbs water in its roots and
the root pressure becomes high causing the plant to release the excess water as water
vapor
Why I Want To Pursue A Formal Education Scholarship
Throughout my life, my family pushed me to achieve a greater education than
themselves. Even when I was young, my uncles would tell me I could do greater
things than farming. As I became older, my mother, uncles, and my grandparents
continued encouraged me to do my best in school. Over the years, I believe that I
have made them proud, and hope my grades reflect my level of devotion. A goal of
mine is to receive a Masters of Science in Cyber Operations. I have had an interest
in computers since I was young and believe that this would be an achievable goal.
After receiving my MS I plan to apply for a job, either in the government or in the
private sector, testing computer and network security and prevent possible
intrusions and keep people s information safe. I hope that while I am achieving
these goals that I would be able to marry and have children of my own. Being born to
a 16 year old single mother, and haven t had a stable father figure of my own while
growing up, I want to get those children the life that I never had. I wish for them to
feel the security inconsistency that I did not feel. A mother and father always being

Confucianism In Ancient China
In China, the Chinese philosopher Confucius brought about the teachings of
Confucianism. These teachings led to the main virtues of Chinese culture.
Confucianism continued its path of improvement through the years; allowing certain
aspects of Chinese culture, to extend to other regions, such as Korea, Vietnam, and
Japan.
The beginning of Confucianism started in 5th 6th century B.C. by Confucius, or Kung
Fu. Confucianism is the philosophical and ethical teachings, introduced to Chinese
culture/religion. This philosophy strained the ideals of the perfection of man,
improving one s self, having a strong education, and the practice of rituals. It deals
mainly with the moral conduct and ethical living, and is often associated with an
ethical/moral system, than an actual religion.
The importance of Confucianism influenced China and its culture. The philosophy
created the ideal person of society a gentleman. This created the proper behavior
guides of individuals and officials; which taught the proper way to behave in society.

What Is Andrew Carnegie Unethical
Andrew Carnegie was a man who believed in the phrase Survival of the fittest. He
became a shining example of this quote by climbing the ladder from a lowly Irish
immigrant to one of the richest men in history. Through aggressive and sometimes
unethical means, Carnegie was able to establish firm dominance over the steel
industry in the late 19th century and through the early 20th century. The manner in
which Carnegie treated his workers, the government, and his competition ensured
that he would forever be remembered as a industrial legend. From underpaying his
employees to buying out his competitors, Carnegie continued to make the
maximum amount of profit in mind (Valentine, Baker). Being a man coming into
America with nothing and climbing up to become one of the richest men in the
world, he would eventually become the poster boy for every Rag to Riches story.
Before he became the multi million dollar tyrant we all know him as, his first job
was a in a factory working as a bobbin boy. He received a measly dollar and twenty
cents a week (Carnegie 34). It can be implied that this is why Carnegie was a firm
believer in social darwinism and the concept of free enterprise, Carnegie believed that
opportunity was there for anyone willing to seize it. He expressed these beliefs and
demonstrated that they worked using his cutthroat business tactics and other
unethical acts he committed to ensure dominance in the steel industry. Even in times

It determines coordination and formation of capitalist economic activities. Capitalist
development is outstanding after that. Firstly, quantity of trading in financial assets
such as stock increases. Secondly, the ratio of credit to GDP in developed countries
and semi industrialized increase. Thirdly, financial motives become increasingly
important in governing non financial corporations. Fourthly, income share increase
for those who possess financial assets or financial firms in developed countries

Financialization can be shown in three perspectives. Firstly, financialization
implicates finance regains dominant power in capitalism. Secondly, autonomy of
financial institutions increases because of the increase in financial interests. Thirdly,
wide range of economic actors is integrated into financial markets due to financial
innovation and expansion of financial sector (Palley, 2007).

Legalizing Marijuana In Today s Society
Marijuana has become the topic of discussion. Should marijuana be legalized is the
big question in today s society. Many states have legalized this drug. Other states are
following in those states footsteps. There are people who think this is a revolutionary
drug for medication or for the practice of medicineand others who believe that
society will abuse it. Then there is the group who wants it legalized because they
will get less of a charge or not, get in trouble for the possession of this drug. With the
legalization of the drug marijuana, many people can self medicate to help with the

different types of plants as well as specifically made plants, many people can get

possession of marijuana. The jails and prisons would have less crowding as well.
Finally, states can benefit from this by taxing the drug. This can give the state the
opportunity to improve many other programs with the money they get. The
legalization of medical marijuana would advance the American society into the next
Political Risks Of A Country And Micro Analysis
One of the first steps in managing political risks is to analyze the political
environment for risks to the business. According to Luthans, the analysis of risk
can be done with two types of political risk analysis, Macro and Micro Analysis.
Macro Analysis is an analysis of political ideas and decisions that will impact all
businesses in a country and Micro Analysis is an analysis of governmental
regulations and policies that affect a specific sector of on economy or market such
as the auto industry (Luthans, 2015). However, there are other risks that can be
more difficult to analyze such as terrorism especially in today s political unrest.
Some major corporations have spent thousands of dollars on macro and micro
analyses just to have a world event disrupt or completely destroy operations. Tata

article titled India s Nano goes on sale Sharon Silke reported that the Launch of

She also reported that terrorist attacks in November of the year prior to the Nano s
launch would affect its future success. When the Nano was first unveiled the
economy was in a good state where gas prices were rising and the world economy
was becoming more stable. This would improve the future for many lower income
families in India allowing them to improve their socioeconomic standing which in
turn would have enable more
Analysis Of Fareed Zakaria On America s Education System
Fareed Zakaria found opportunities in America s education system that he never
would ve had in his home country of India. America s open minded way of life
amazed him even when he was growing up and being influenced by American
entertainment. Zakaria s love for America was sparked by his family ties to
America, his passion for American films, and the opportunity to live out his
dreams instead of being tied to a specific career. Zakaria developed a fascination
for America at a young age. Hollywood was one of the main reasons he gained so
much knowledge for America s culture. He gained a passion for American television
and film. He watched films and shows such as The Poseidon Adventure, Kramer vs.
Kramer, Dallas, and I love Lucy. Zakaria himself writes, The hottest show at the
time was Dallas, which we all devoured. The scenes during the opening credits
were my window into the American dream: shining shots of gleaming skyscrapers,
helicopters landing in office parks, men in ten gallon hats getting in and out of
cavernous Cadillacs (34). Zakaria s point is that shows such as Dallas allowed him
to gain knowledge of the American Dream and America s culture which lead to him
wanting to gain his own taste of American life. Zakaria eventually ended up
attending Yale. He gained much knowledge of literacy and philosophy at Yale due to
their outstanding teachings in liberal education. Zakaria was fascinated by

Sex Offender Speech
Hello Ladies, I believe that a sex offender is a sex offender, from this course I have
learned there are multiple reasons a person may become a sex offender, it
typically isn t a decision made over night. Research has proved abusive behaviors
are instilled at a young age through child abuse, and/or are caused by mental health
problems. I understand that is not the reason in all cases, of course drugs and
alcohol play a factor too. The behaviors don t just appear or just go away, they may
lie dormant or present in a subtle way, but they exist. Sexual predators adapt to their
surroundings, so it doesn t matter if they are in the military or not, if they want to
commit a sexual assault they will. The military is predominately male, with extreme
The Pros And Cons Of Meditation
Meditation is growing increasingly in popularity for reason raging from stress relief
to the pursuit of enlightenment. None the less there are still many misunderstandings
about what meditation is and how it is done. Here the eight most common
misunderstandings are clarified.
Misunderstanding #1 Meditation is stopping thinking and having a blank mind.
This is probably the number one misunderstanding about meditation that meditation is
to stop thinking. Certainly, a benefit of long term meditation is a reduction in the the
amount of thinking that goes on, and that is great. The inane, repetitive and usually
negative chatter of thoughts that jump one to another in their minds is one of the
first things people new to meditation are confronted ... Show more content on

As a consequence, as it still is in many developing countries, people sat on the floor.
As a result their pelvis was naturally conditioned to sitting in this way without
discomfort.
For those of us then who have grown up sitting in chairs, as chair might be the more
appropriate place to sit to meditate. There really is no required or necessary position
to meditate in. The two primary things to consider the ability to relax deeply, stay
alert, and keeping the spine straight. The mind already has plenty to obsess about
without how you sit to meditate being one of them.
Misunderstanding #4. Meditation is just deep relaxation.
This misunderstanding about meditation is largely from it s increasing common
prescription for stress management. While meditation is certainly greatly beneficial in
managing stress and increasing health, to reduce it s function and purpose to this is
way off the mark.
Deep relaxation is definitely an aspect of how to meditate, it is however one half of
a fluid dance. The other half is alert attention. If that sounds less than simple to do,
you are getting some idea of why meditation is a practice and isn t as simple as just
sitting with your eyes closed.
Misunderstanding #5. The CD will do it all for

Air pollution in Mexico City As the vehicle population reached more than 700
million worldwide, numerous cities experiencing rapid industrialization started to
suffer from air pollution (Walsh, 1999). The level of air pollution in any city is a
global concern. The reason is that air can travel freely from place to place;
consequently, the polluted air from one city can travel to another. The polluted air
has numerous negative consequences for human health and also severely
damages the ecosystem. Some of the cities reduced the air pollution level;
however there are still some that are considered to be the most polluted cities in
the world. One of them is Mexico City. According to Forbes, the Mexican capital is
one of the five dirtiest cities of the world (Luck, 2008). The government and people
have take measures in order to reduce the air pollution in Mexico City before it is
too late. The government should practice legal regulations and favor the usage of
hydrogen fuel instead of gasoline in order to reduce the air pollution level in Mexico

The Identity Status Of Individuals Essay
Yet, when looking at the identity status of individuals, the significant link between
NSSI and identity once again emerges suggesting that is more important as to what
identity status an individual has achieved (Luyckx et al, 2015b). Furthermore, in this
same study, Luyckx et al (2015b) found that individuals who were currently in
moratorium were more likely to have engaged in NSSI in the past, but not the
present. This may suggest that NSSI is related to identity crisis and the inability of
an individual to obtain identity synthesis in adolescence (Luyckx et al, 2015b).
Moreover, the researchers found that individuals in achievement indicated
significantly less engagement in NSSI behaviors than the other identity statuses.
Additionally, individuals who were currently in the troubled diffusion status were
most likely to be engaging in NSSI at the present time. This suggests as some of the
other studies have suggested that identity confusion is related to NSSI (Luyckx et
al, 2015b). However, NSSI was not shown to be significantly correlated with the
carefree diffusion status which may be due to the individual s disinterest in identity
issues (Luyckx et al, 2015b). When examining the impact of different domains of
identity formation in relation to NSSI, gender differences emerge (Gandhi, Luyckx,
Maitra, Claes, 2015). Distress related to interpersonal domains such as career and
friendship evoked more distress in females than in males. Yet, both males and females

The success or failure of a company is the obligation of the entire organization as a
whole. (Deming, 2004) In his book, Out of the Crisis, he presents 14 key principles
for management to follow to improve the success of any business or any
organization. His principles are below: (Deming, 1987)
1.Create constancy of purpose toward improvement of product and service. Always
aiming to remain competitive, stay in business and provide jobs. Strive towards
being Excellent.
2.Adopt the new philosophy. We are in a New Economic age . Change is good. In
order for business to grow and be successful you have to change with the times.
3.Cease dependence on inspection to achieve quality. If you produce a quality product
initially the need for inspection on a mass basis becomes unnecessary.
4.End the practice of awarding business on the basis of price tag. Build a long term
relationship of loyalty and trust with your supplier by using a single supplier.
5.Always strive to decrease costs, by constantly improving the production and service
system.
6.Establish training on the job.
7.Supervisors should help people, gadgets and machines to do a better job.
Leadership is mandatory.
8.So that everyone works effectively for the company, drive out fear. Employees
should want to try to do better. Failure is okay as long as something is learned and
gained from the failure.
9.Everyone and every department must work as a team.

Differences In The Middle England And The New England...
In the early 1600 s, English people, attempting to escape the economic crisis that had
plagued England, began migrating to the Americas and establishing colonies. The
New England colonies and the Chesapeake region were both settled largely by
populations of people of English origin. Despite this similarity, by 1700 the regions
had evolved into two distinct societies. The difference in the kind of people that
settled, the shared communal values, and the profitability of the land in these areas
are what shaped these regions into contrasting societies.
Understanding the types of people that settled these lands is essential to
understanding why differences in these societies emerged. The New England area was

Being intent on maintaining this reputation, towns had homes placed relatively
close to each other, allowing neighbors to ensure each other s religious faithfulness
as well. Overall, in the New England area, settlers communal dedication to their
faith built a unified, amicable community. In Chesapeake however, the thirst for
gold resulted in selfish ways from the very beginning. There was no talk...but dig
gold, wash gold, refine gold, load gold . (History of Virginia, 1624) In the south,
the focus was on finding riches in order to become self sufficient. People were
intent on getting more and more, and thus the gap between the rich and the poor
increased. This increasing gap as well as the unfair advantages landowners had in
society would lead to Bacon s Rebellion. Chesapeake s selfish ways differed greatly
from the union the New Englander s formed with each other because each
community valued different things. The shaping of these colonies does not stop and
social factors however. Land capabilities would also contribute to shaping these two
areas differently. For the New Englanders, massive plantations and mass crop
production was not an option with their rocky soil. The inability to use massive plots
of land for crop production, contributed to the closeness of the New England settlers.
This closeness allowed for the establishment
Japan s Foreign Policy During The End Of The Twentieth...
In the end of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Japan was a strong
militaristic country that held a strong power and influence in the Asia Pacific
region. It was an expansionist and strong imperialist nation similar as the Western
colonizers such as England, the Dutch, Russia, France and Germany. The Japanese
empire extended from the Dutch East Indies in the south to Manchuria in the north
before the country surrendered on September 1945 to the Allies. The Allied Power
led by General Douglas MacArthur had occupied Japan for several years before it
was fully liberated in 1952. After the occupation, Japan s foreign policy was given
back to its government. The country took the opportunity given to repair its relations
with its neighbours. Some historians claimed that the reconciliation period was
successful through several treaties agreed upon the East Asian countries in the
1960s. However, it was different side of the story when the issue was asked to the
Japanese former colonies. A lot of its people will claim that they could not forget
what the Empire of Japanhad done to them. Hence, it would be wise to ask how does
Japan war history would affect its relations with its East Asia neighbours?
This paper will explain the two most significant impacts that the aggressive Empire of
Japan history affects its connections with its neighbours. History has caused the
reconciliation process between the countries to be delayed and continues frictions
between them to occur.
Women in Baseball
Baseball, some would argue, is America s favorite past time. Many can recall their
experiences as they enjoyed the game as a child and then continue to share it with
their children. The sport has brought us many great moments such as when Jackie
Robinson broke racial barriers as the first African American to play in the major
leagues. When one thinks of professional baseball, many times, names of greats such
as Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, and Willie Mays come to mind. What many fans over
look about America s favorite past time is the period when fewer men were available
to continue their participation in the sport, as many were drafted to serve in World
War II. Not wanting the game to come to an end, the league brought in women hoping
the spirit of the game would continue to thrive. Even though these female leagues
were formed, the sport was not truly the same as the women athletes were held to
different standards and not given the same opportunity as the men who had played
the game.
In today s society most people view softball as the female equivalent to baseball but
is it really? Due to social norms it is widely accepted as true. Girls who may have
started off by playing baseball with their local neighborhood friends usually have
become fully adapted and successful in a softball career by high school. Because of
social conditioning most parents and children do not realize that it is acceptable for
girls to play on boys baseball teams if there is not an all girls baseball team
Danforth Neighbourhood Analysis
As with any other ethnic neighbourhood, The Danforth s presence within Toronto is

also encourages the sharing of the culture within the city. Not only that, but The
Danforth provides a unique perspective on an ethnic neighbourhood that s thought of
As the rest . Unlike other ethnic enclaves, such as Chinatown, The Danforth is
accustomed to the norms and way of life of the city of Toronto, while preventing the
assimilation of its own culture. This makes Greektown one of the more model ethnic
neighbourhoods, and an educational experience for all visitors, as its adaptation to
the Canadian culture makes it a substantially more relatable experience for visitors.
In essence, it s not only important for the general public to visit the neighbourhood,

Integrative Approach For Counseling And Its Effects On...
Integrative Approach to Counseling
Key Concepts
The central idea in an integrative approach to counseling is one of a patient s ability
to affect their life through the choices they make. William Glasser suggests most
people s unhappiness stems from the lack of meaningful relationships, and most
relationships are either successful or a disaster based on the choices we make
(Corey, 2013). Patients are able to positively or negatively impact their mental well
being by making choices that deepen their interpersonal relationships.
Expanding on Glasser s ideas, existentialism and the choices it offers, gives an
individual the opportunity to experience freedom. They are no longer tied to a
deterministic view of life, but are instead given license to create the life they wish to
have, unencumbered by the weight of societal, cultural, or familial expectations
(Corey, 2013).
Both choice theory and existentialism closely mirror ideas taught in Protestant
Christianity: people are free to make choices about their behavior and lifestyle, and
all choices have an outcome. That outcome can be positive (salvation), or negative
(damnation). If one believes the rules as explained in the Bible, the outcome of one s
life rests in their choices.
Counselor s role
In most cases, the counselor will best serve their client by taking on a not knowing
role in the relationship, allowing the client to become the expert in their own lives
(Corey, 2013).
The world is becoming more and more
Theoretical Perspectives On Crime
The first theoretical perspectives on crime to be recognized originated around 1764
according to Siegel (2010), with the classical perspective. Founded by Cesare
Beccaria and Jeremy Bentham, the perspective holds that society can deter crime
when the consequences of crime are absolute, harsh, and quickly administered. They
felt that people choose to commit crime after they considered the positive and
negative aspects of the crime, and found that the positives outweigh the
consequences. Modern classical theoryis called choice theory. This perspective was
the major influence on our penal system for the next two hundred years, until late
into the 19th century, giving way to positivism and the scientific methodof studying
human behavior and society. It is from this positivism noted by August Comte,
considered the founder of sociology, it is in this last stage that our current
classifications of theoretical perspectives on crime have emerged. These theories,
grouped into four categories, which are; sociological theories, biological theories,
psychological theories, and social psychological theories, represent different causes
of crime. (Siegel, 2010)The first theoretical perspectives on crime to be recognized

Symptoms And Possible Treatment Options For Apert
Syndrome
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH, 2013), Apert syndrome is a
genetic disease that results in the premature fusion of the sutures between the bones
of the skull (craniosynostosis), which causes an abnormally shaped head and face.
Apert syndrome accounts for approximately 4.5% of all craniosynostosissyndromes,
with an estimated birth prevalence of 1:64,500 (Giancotti et al., 2014, p. 1445).
Because children with Apert syndrome exhibit a variety of craniofacial and central
nervous system anomalies, many of them are likely to demonstrate severe speech and
languagedifficulties. As a future speech language pathologist, it is important to be
aware of some of the major factors contributing to these children s speech and
language problems in order to better serve them and their families. Thus, in this
paper, I will closely examine the causes, signs and symptoms, and possible treatment
options for Apert syndrome, as well as explore some of the speech, language,
hearing, and other related problems often associated with it.
Causes
Apert syndrome is caused by a genetic mutation that occurs early on in pregnancy.
Recently, researchers at Oxford University identified the specific genetic change that
results in the characteristic features of Apert syndrome. They report that slight,
specific changes in the genetic makeup of chromosome number 10, known as
Fibroblast Growth Receptor Factor 2 (FGFR2), causes the rare syndrome. All

it has caused so much havoc, with deaths and other injuries related to the game

along side with the threat of China being hacked! (Sun). Pokemon Go should NOT

Kyoto Protocol And Its Effect On Climate Change Essay
In 1997, the Kyoto Protocol attempted to achieve the results that had been sought
out when most of the nations of the world agreed to the terms set forth in the
United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 1992.
The new treaty puts enforcement mechanisms in place, including the idea of
carbon trading, that would reinforce the importance of lowering the amount of
CO2 being released into our atmosphere. Looking back to that decision made
eighteen years ago, I do not believe that the concept of carbon trading should have
been introduced in lieu of a carbon tax as it is now a crutch used by corporations,
both big and small, to either improve the profitability of their company by selling
their unused carbon permits or to lawfully exceed the carbon limits by purchasing
and using carbon permits as a free pass for excessive pollution.
The abundance of greenhouse gas emissions are known to be the highest in
America and in 2001 shortly after President Bush took office he rejected the Kyoto
treaty, President Bush s reason for the rejection was his claim that it would harm
the U.S. economy. The carbon emissions trading the buying and selling of permits
to emit greenhouse gasses caused by fossil fuels has been a top strategy for
reducing pollution (Weeks, 1). But this is not the case for carbon trading as the
protocol, most of the world s wealthy countries agreed to reduce their GHG
emissions by fixed percentage (Weeks, 6), states Weeks as well as

Summary Of Only Connect By William Cronon
In the article Only Connect...The Goals of a Liberal Education by William Cronon,
Cronon discusses what he believes it means to be liberally educated and the benefits
to individuals as well as the general public. Cronon opens with the question, What
does it mean to be a liberally educated person? Then he provides us with background
on the true meaning of the word liberal using latin terms, clearly up common
misconceptions relating to politics. He continues to explain the moral platform on
which liberal educationwas built. Stating that those values consisted of promoting
educational growth to benefit our natural born freedoms. He then begins to question
if required courses are beneficial to that educational growth. Cronon goes on to
explain
Robots Is Not So Foreign
The concept of robots in our military is not so foreign. We currently have a variety
of types including drone planes and bomb detecting robots. There are several
reasons why robots of these types are a benefit to the soldiers on the ground in places
like Iraq and Afghanistan. These innovations keep our fighting force away from many
dangerous events. However, the militaryseems to be leaning toward a world where the
infantry will be totally comprised of machines an unsympathetic robot killing force.
The argument is that these robots will have no hesitation to kill, making the human
soldierobsolete. These robots also require no training or housing. Even though
robots will kill without question and cost less overall, robots will not benefit war
times because they take away our military s heart and soul, they eliminate the
humanitarian effort, and their programming can be unpredictable. Primarily, a
robot infantry takes away the greatest part of our country s fighting force, the
people s heart and soul. There is something special about the men and women who
join our military. This goes as far back as the first members of the first military
units. The pride our citizens have always felt for their country causes them to join
for so many reasons. Maybe they want to be part of something bigger, or they are
following in their father s footsteps. After 9 11, our country had a huge surge of
people enlist to fight for what they believed was a wrong doing to the United
Making A Band Or Start Writing Music
When people create a band or start writing music, they want money. In the early 20th
century, artists were not receiving the royalties that they should have earned. Enter
the first Performing Rights Organization which is also called a PRO that promised
what the artist should be earning, money. PROs were fine until the organizations
realized how much money they can earn. PROs exist for a reason, but the cost of the
license, why they are non profit , and why the artist has to sign with PRO s that
make PROs truly evil. In February 1914, the first PRO in the United States was
formed. Music writers came together and The American Society of Composers
Authors and Publishers was formed. The ASCAP sought out artists, composers, and
publishers to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But not all of the artists are under one PRO, so the person must buy a license from
each PRO that represents the artist s music that they would be playing (Public
Performance Licenses and Music for Your Small Business). If the person thinks
they can get away with not paying, think again. PROs are always in court suing
small businesses for copyright infringement. On average, the lawsuit ends up
being $700 $30,000 depending on the severity of the infringement. Depending on
what license they are applying for, the cost varies. License fees range from $300
$500 and could cost more depending on some variables like if the music would be
for a dance studio or for a church (Public Performance Licenses and Music for Your
Small Business). A PRO might sound like a good thing, right? But you re wrong
because the PROs goal is to make a profit for the company. An organization s job is
to make money, and then they pay taxes on the revenue they receive. If an
organization says they are non profit, they usually do not have to pay taxes on the
revenue they earn. PROs like ASCAP and BMI say they are non profit, which
means more profit for the artist, right? Wrong (Why You Should Think Twice
Before Joining ASCAP, BMI or SESAC). Members of the ASCAP earn 86.5 cent
for every dollar that the ASCAP earns. But isn t the other 13.5 cents profit? But
PROs do that for one specific reason, to trap artist. The

To the faculty and staff, I first want to take the time for the principal for choosing me
to speak with you on the benefits, definition, and varying scenarios of the inclusive
classroom.
What is Inclusion? It s about embracing the idea that diversity is the reality and,
therefore, each child is a unique learner, (Hopkins, 2000) An inclusive classroom is a
general education classroom that students with or without disabilities learn together.
In this context, students with disabilities attend the same schools as their neighbors
and peers without disabilities where they are provided all support needed to achieve
full access to the same curriculum. Inclusion ... Show more content on

This goes along with the idea that all students learn differently and no two learns are
the same. Furthermore, many studies of the academic performance of students with
significant disabilities have shown that many more students than ever thought
possible can learn academic knowledge and skills when they are provided with high
quality instruction and assistive technology within a general education classroom
(Jorgensen, Lambert, 2012) The way differentiated learning works within the
classroom is creating a learning environment that caters to all learners and their
Summary Of The Song Concrete Angel
While child abuse can indirectly cause obesity, it is often directly responsible for
child death. The Song Concrete Angel written by Martina McBride illustrates the
pain and hardships of a child who was abused, neglected and then died. McBride
explains the fear and the worry the child felt each day and then reminds listeners that
many abused children don t even live to adulthood. Often times, the long term effect
of child abuseand neglect is death. She argues that people need to do more to help
those that are abused when she sings She hides the bruises with the linen and lace,
oh/The teacher wonders but she doesn t ask ( McBride 4 5), and later on in the song,
Somebody cries in the middle of the night/ the neighbors hear but turn
Buffalo Soldiers Sparknotes
Gather around boys and girls to hear a story about the men forgotten by the world,
said the story teller. All the boys and girls gathered around the old wrinkly and tall
black man. What s the story about Mr. Washington, said Jimmy. Well let s get to it
and find out then, we begin in way back 1865 and it was the year slaves had been
freed . The white men had pushed the Indians off their land around 1848 and put them
on reservations, but they needed a strong group of men to fight them. In what was
born in 1866, the 1st official United States African Americanfighters were born.
When the Indians would fight them they knew that they were from the united states
because of their uniforms, but they didn t fight how the United States white men...

I will get to that, said, Mr. Washington. You see the native Americans were not
making fun of the new fighters, they were simply giving them a name that
explained to the other native Americans who they were. The buffalo was tough,
brave, and meant to be respected. So, therefore the black men were just like them
and that s why they called them that. These strong brave men were not only
fighters but they also had other jobs too. They had way more responsibility then
the white fighters. The Buffalo Soldiers had to herd cattle, escort settlers, and
railroad crews. They also, had to set up camp for the white armies and make roads
to travel on, but one of the greatest they did was they fought in the civil war. They
did a lot more than what we give credit to them. The buffalo soldiers have been
forgotten throughout history and some don t even know who they are. These men
are one of the greatest in African American history because they helped pave the
way for all equality and freedom for you and me. Now kids you see how important
the buffalo soiders are, said Mr. Washington. Yes, said, all the children. I didn t
know who the Buffalo soldiers are at first and now I do, and I will always be thankful
to what they did and helped accomplish for our country . Said Lucy. Yep, that s right

Gettysburg Address Thesis
The Gettysburg Address is one of the most recognizable documents in the history of
the United States. It was delivered by Abraham Lincoln on November 19, 1863 at
the dedication of the Soldier s National Cemetery in Gettysburg, PA. This cemetery
marks the final resting place for thousands of soldiers who were killed during the
Civil War. At this time, the experiment in democracy, the United State of America,
was 100 years old and had not dealt with a crisis such as this. The very existence of
the country was at stake. At the time this speech was given, the Union Army,
representing the North, and the Confederate Army, representing the south, were in
the middle of a gruesome war. The casualties, on both sides, during the Civil War
numbered 200,000.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The final speech was created as a result of reflecting on experiences and events that
began when Lincoln was first invited to give the speech and ended when he
stepped to the platform in Gettysburg (Johnson 55). The words and context began
in Washington but developed over the trip to Gettysburg in as many as five
different versions. .Lincoln requested and was given information about the
national cemetery prior to departing from Washington so that he could speak with
confidence about the battlefield. Lincoln was known for composing his speeches
thoughtfully and was known as a slow writer who liked to tighten phrases and
logic (Wills 28). On the morning of the Gettysburg address, Lincoln toured the
battlefield and visited the grave of a friend, General Reynolds. Martin Johnson, in
Writing the Gettysburg Address , says that the speech was created by a series of
events in history based on Lincoln s experiences (Johnson 4). One such experience
that influenced Lincoln was the death of his son in 1862. His grief over the loss of
his son impacted the speech in that he showed emotion about the young men who
had died on the battlefield. Lincoln, in dealing with death and the natural setting of
human burial, does not mourn a single soldier but talks about the birth of a nation s
life and its new birth of freedom (Wills 77). The excerpt, The brave men, living and
dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far
Monody Context
Quetext
About Widget FAQ Contact
The concept of monody was detrimental in the progression of music from the
Renaissance era into the Baroque, shaping operatic arias into what we know them to
be. Monody is a musical texture consisting of a single solo voice, supported by a free
instrumental bass line. The voice line is often simple yet ornate, using
embellishments to motivate the ideas of the libretto. Whilst having simple chordal
accompaniment usually played on a lute, harpsichord, guitar or harp the listener can
be focused on the text and meaning of the recitative and aria. Two of the more
noteworthy developments of the transition from the Renaissance era to that of the
Baroque, was the step away from choral music, and the introduction ... Show more

The piece is about love, betrayal, death and anguish. You can see in Figure 1 the
figured bass and singular bass line. This is an example of baroque notation and the
freedom that the accompanist had in harmonization and improvisation. Another
well known solo madrigal of the Baroque era is Giulio Caccini s 1602 piece
Amarilli mia bella from Le nuove musiche. Caccini spent most of his life in
Florence, Italy said to be the heart of Baroque music. He spent a lot of his time as
not just a composer and singer of the Medici court, but also a spy for the youngest
son of the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Pietro de Medici. Caccini was supported by
other Florentine nobles, one being Giovanni de Bardi leader of the Florentine
Camerata . Amarilli, mia bella is an emotive song expressing love for the singer s
betrothed, Amarilli. Based on the Greek myth of Amaryllis, falling in love with
Alteus, a shepherd. Alteus, however, is only interested in the mountainside flowers
she is picking and says he can only fall in love with a girl who brings him a new
flower. The story goes Amaryllis takes the advice of the Delphi Oracle, each night

Cold weather contracts blood vessels. Hence, heart attacks, migraines, and high
blood pressure, caused by constriction of blood vessels and insufficient blood flow,
can be triggered by cold weather. According to research conducted by the New
England Center for Headache, as many as half of all migraines are triggered by
weather conditions. This applies for Raynaud s phenomenon where the blood vessels
dilate and blood flow is disrupted.
Cold weather increases joint stiffness and affects people with arthritis. Arthritis
patients believe that the lower the barometric pressure, the greater the pain in the
joints. An example is that the residents at the North Shore Hotel note when the
barometric pressure goes down, their pain goes up. Their arthritis goes into overdrive
before a storm.
Nerve fiber coverings break down more easily, causing Multiple sclerosis to happen
more frequently in cold weather. For Fibromyalgia Syndrome, a 1981 survey reported
that more than 90% of the patients felt worse in cold and humid weather. Changes in
barometric pressure affected those with the syndrome.
Sinus headaches are caused by barometric pressure as the nasal cavities are not able
to adapt quickly to the change in air pressure. Asthma is often caused by high winds
as these bring pollen and particles which some have allergies to.
In our research, we have also found out that sunlight can be both beneficial and
harmful to the human body. The

How clearly did the presenter define and explain the key facts/issues? The presenter
spoke clearly and fluently, and introduced the term creativity with underpinned
research and illustrations. The introduction part is considered to be quite successful.
At first, the presenter briefly introduced the key contents of the presentation. Based
on source found, the presenter then defined what creativityis with its characters.
Followed by assertive scholar research, the presenter posed an interesting question,
which supports creativity can be developed through proper management. Next,

build on what we previously learned (De Bono, 2015). However, people actually
have to force themselves to think outside the box at times, therefore creativity is
needed. To assess the creativity and business, the six hats for parallel thinking was

Edward de Bono, providing direction for group thinking and decision making by
transforming habitual thinking ways. The presenter reminded and interpreted the
value of creativity by emphasizing feasibilities and new perceptions, reflecting the
appreciation and understanding of the subject. But the research question itself was

and strategic formulation, specifically business level strategy (Chapter 5), with an
additional focus on strategic implementation, specifically entrepreneurial

company could cope with it. This case can be used to demonstrate the difficulty of
introducing a new product to an already well established market, the challenges of
being a small player in a big market, and the challenges of expansion for a highly

Medical-Legal Case Study
The status of this case is that we are awaiting the applicant to undergo an EMG of

Stephan Choi, in his evaluation report dated December 14, 2016. Please recall, Dr.
Choi requested an EMG of the right upper extremity so he can rule out possible

come back normal, the applicant would be deemed permanent and stationary.

At this time, our office has been corresponding with applicant s attorney s office to
resolve this issue.
Meanwhile, I believe we do not need to procure an EMG of the upper extremity
through the request of the primary treating physician. As you know, this is a medical
legal diagnostic request for the purpose of a medical legal determination. Therefore,
we do not need to go through the utilization review process. In this instance where we
are having a tough time finding a primary treating physician for the applicant, I
recommend we simply authorize a facility to perform the EMG of the right upper
extremity.
Personally, I would recommend Dr. Frank Cantrell, who is a well known physician
in Fresno in the field of neurology. I have seen many EMG/NCV studies from his
office. I also confirmed Dr. Cantrell is within our MPN. Therefore, it is my
recommendation we send an authorization to Dr. Cantrell for the sole purpose of
obtaining an EMG of the right upper extremity as requested by Dr. Choi, so we can
move forward with this

  • 1. Hook Maker For Essays Crafting an essay on the subject of a "Hook Maker for Essays" can present a unique set of challenges. The difficulty lies in striking the right balance between creativity and relevance. The hook, being the introductory element, is tasked with capturing the reader's attention and setting the tone for the entire essay. This requires a keen understanding of the topic at hand, as well as a creative flair to ensure that the opening is both engaging and aligned with the overall theme. One challenge is the constant pressure to be original. In a world saturated with information, finding a hook that stands out can be a daunting task. It demands a thorough exploration of various angles, an in-depth analysis of the target audience, and a creative mindset to unearth a captivating and fresh approach. Moreover, there's the challenge of avoiding clichГ©s. Readers are quick to recognize overused hooks, and falling into the trap of common phrases can undermine the essay's effectiveness. Striking a balance between familiarity and innovation is crucial to keeping the reader's interest without resorting to tired and trite expressions. Additionally, a successful hook should seamlessly transition into the main body of the essay. Ensuring a smooth flow from the introduction to the core arguments requires meticulous planning and a clear understanding of the essay's structure. It's essential to provide a hook that not only captivates the audience but also aligns with the subsequent content, creating a cohesive narrative. In the end, the challenge lies not only in creating an attention-grabbing hook but also in weaving it seamlessly into the fabric of the entire essay. • 2. How Did Nelson Mandela Contribute To Civil Disobedience Mandela was arrested in a countrywide police swoop on 5 December 1955, which led to the 1956 Treason Trial (https://www.nelsonmandela.org/content/page /biography, website, Accessed 27/6/16). The trial went on for nearly five years and during this time period led to the militant faction of the ANC to split with the ANC in 1959 to form the Pan Africanist Congress. However on 21 March 1960, police killed 69 unarmed people due to a protest in Sharpeville against the racist laws directed to the black Africans. This protest led to the banning of both the ANC and the PAC which led to the movement losing much of it militant support. Mandela and 155 other activists were acquitted in 1961 and led to Mandela believing that armed struggle was the only way... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mandela quoted There are many people who feel that it is useless and futile for us to continue talking peace and non violence suggesting that non violent protesting will not attract the government s attention. Mandela undergoes military training in secret in January 1962 and to raise funds for a possible armed fight. His returned to South Africa in July 1962 led to his five years of imprisonment with hard labour for illegally leaving the country. Due to Mandela s involvement in radical, violent attacks, Mandela and seven other members were sentence to life imprisonment to Robben Island, narrowly avoiding capital punishment at the Rivonia trail. During the trials, Mandela quoted in his Rivonia trial speech I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die. This displays the motives of Mandela into changing the South African society to be equal for
  • 3. Lekythos Essays The Lekythos A lekythos is an ancient Greek vase made of ceramic; the plural of lekythos is lekythoi (Reference #2). It has a narrow neck, single handle, and is tall with a small, deep mouth (Reference #7). The lekythos was used as a flask, used to hold olive oil and perfumes (Reference #1), and were developed in ancient Athens during the fifth century. In Classical Athens, lekythoi were painted in white ground with figurative scenes. White ground is a form of art used by Athenians in which they created the vase, fired it, and then the lekythos was painted in white. The figures and scenes were then painted on top of the white ground. This method meant that the paintings did not last as well, but were very beautiful in their original ... Secondly, some lekythoi were filled with scented oils and perfumes and placed around the body, while others were set along the approach to the grave or placed beside the tomb (Reference #5). This was done as a part of the religious focus of the burial ceremony, and was given as an offering. Lastly, a lekythos would often be brought to the gravesite or tomb of the deceased after the burial. It was very important to ancient Greeks to visit the gravesite of loved ones quite often, and when they visited, they would bring offerings to the deceased such as fruit, a feast, or a lekythos filled with olive oil or perfume (Reference #6). In time, the Lekythos was developed into a much larger version of itself, being called Huge Lekythoi . These were often left on top of a grave, or beside a tomb opening, almost as an ancient grave marker (Reference #7). Though they would not be inscribed with any words or the name of the deceased, they would have a painted scene depicting the deceased, some scene from their life, or a scene depicting a sport or activity the deceased greatly enjoyed. Many lekythoi have been recovered and are currently housed in museums all over the world. Though many are not in their original glory, most have been reconstructed. New lekythoi have been made in Greece and are still used today in some small Greek communities during the preparation of the body, and left by
  • 4. Flood In Europe Essay Floods in Europe In February 1995 large areas of the mainland countries in Europe were deluged with water, and floods threatened the local people and towns. The River Rhine and its many tributaries burst their banks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, Its tributaries include the rivers Meuse, Main Moselle and Ruhr. The floods were devastation to Europe, killing people and animals, and destroying farmland and building developments. If you had lived in Holland at the time you would have been in big trouble. It is a country where 75% of the land is below sea level and as a result, 15,000,000 live below sea level. The dykes and levees were the only life savers the Dutch had. ... Some of the water was retained by the soil, some was absorbed by vegetation, and a small percentage evaporated. One may think that the dykes are sufficiently high to hold the huge amount of water however they couldn t hold the amount that was produced from the mountains and rainfall. Dykes are made from sand and clay and act like a sponge, absorbing water. The longer the exposure there is a greater risk that the dyke might collapse. If the dykes did collapse the land would be submerged under 20 feet of water. [IMAGE][IMAGE] Many families tried to evacuate their houses and for some their farmland. However many dairy farms didn t want to lose their cows in the floods. So most people decided to take these cows in transport to their next destination. When they started off on their journey, everyone was evacuating too, so as you can imagine the traffic was awful. It took over 8 hours for some people to arrive to their destination and by then the cows were stressed and tired. Due to their condition they didn t produce very much milk and the owners lost even more money. In some cases if you were very unlucky the people before using the trucks to carry their cattle had foot disease. So some cows caught the disease and couldn t produce any more milk, so the people lost even more money! [IMAGE] Some of the countries had a bigger
  • 5. Macbeth Evil Shakespeare s play Macbeth shows the roots of all evil, our own human nature. The play is centered on the coexistence of good and evil. Macbeth, unlike any other Shakespeare play has the protagonist convert to evil. In the beginning of the play, Macbeth is shown as a hero in the Scottish army, that is ironic because Macbeth defeats a traitor and he himself becomes one later. Macbeth knows his place in the world. He is fully capable of distinguishing between right and wrong. Macbeth purposely disregards his own moral judgment to rise to power which is again ironic and goes against his own beliefs. The king does this so that the governor will surrender and Henry can conquer Harfleur without a bloody battle. Although his speech sounds menacing, a quality not found in the characteristics of a hero, it is only a tactic Henry uses to achieve the outcome he wants. Henry s reluctance to make good on his promise of this massacre is proven when he states, use mercy to them all (III.3. 54). Henry is not the monster he appears to be; instead, he is a leader using any method he can to gain land while keeping his troops out of harm s way. At the final Battle of Agincourt, Henry s ragged army expresses concern about their odds against the French; the British are outnumbered five to one. Henry s Cousin Westmoreland. Henry, being the talented rhetorician that he is, soothes the army s fears by delivering the inspirational speech: [...] If we are marked to die, we are now To do our country loss; and if to live, The fewer men, the greater share of honor. [...]But if it be a sin to covet honor, I am the most offending soul alive. (IV.3. 21 30). Henry explains that there is a certain amount of honor to go around once the British defeat the French. It is fortunate of those soldiers that are at the battle that they do not have to share that honor with men who are fearful and therefore unworthy of honor. Henry says that honor is most important to him and that it should also be important to

Standing in place to hit, I placed my body in the batter s box, and overlooked the bright green field. Hearing no sound but the dirt brushing against my metal spikes, and my gloves rubbing against my bat to rotate it in position, I took a deep breath, exhaling air like it was mist. Overviewing the opponents, nerves began to fill my body with a shiver that overcame my head, and my legs started to shake as the count went down 0 1. After, the pitcher threw a ball, and I seemed to recall his pattern, that being the same count as the hitter before me, and on this count 1 1 he threw a curveball so I told myself to expect the same pitch based off of his method. Reassuring my nerves, my legs began to stand still in the knowledge of his repetition. When the pitcher came set, it felt like time froze and only him and I stood on the field tunnel vision. The sixty foot depth of perception grew in slow motion as the pitcher picked up his leg in the stretch beginning his throwing motion. The seventy five mph curveball dropped right into my wheelhouse coming towards me as if it was a floating beach ball. Tracking the ball to the sweet spot of my bat, again time is frozen at contact. The ball then sails over the left fielder and lands on the warning track while bouncing the fence. Looking back I round first base and I turn my head in the glance to see my coach sending my teammate for the

  • 9. Why The Bathroom Is A Basic Necessity Going to the bathroom is a basic necessity that everyone does. With this necessity comes the need for bathrooms so the person can conduct their business in a safe and clean environment. However, this right is not available to everyone in some cultures. Women in India still lack a proper place to relieve themselves on a daily basis, which forces them to defecate in the open, causing rape, illness and health problems, improper feminine hygiene, shame and humility. Rape and vulnerability are some of the greatest concerns the women face. In May of 2014, in Katra village in Uttar Pradesh state, two sisters were found hanging in a mango tree after they were gang raped (Hjelmgaard). The two girls, aged 14 and 15, had gone into the fields near where they lived because there was no toilet in their home (Hjelmgaard). The girls deaths could have been easily prevented if they had a toilet in their home (McCarthy). These girls were not alone. Goldberg adds that, Every 30 minutes a woman in India is raped, and it s often the impoverished women who relieve themselves in the open who are targeted. To avoid being preyed upon, the women now go in pairs or groups to the fields to relieve themselves. As another precaution, they go before dawn and then hold it until dark (McCarthy). Holding in your shit or urine can lead to more problems. Holding in urine encourages bacterial growth and increases the risk of developing a urinary tract infection (UTI). Frequent UTIs can also lead to

All Quiet On The Western Front And The Things They Carried In Edwin StarrВґs song War , we will examine the authorВґs use of diction and figurative language and connect it to a theme we explored in the novel and short story All Quiet on the Western Front and The Things They Carried respectively. The song was released in 1970, which was an era in which the Vietnam War was existent. This song was a pop song, which reached #1 position on billboards in America, with the message of protest against war. Apart from its exciting chorus and upbeat tempo, it has a few memorable lines that we can connect to the themes we see in All Quiet on the Western Frontand The Things They Carried . The first quote War means tears to thousands of mothers eyes when their sons go off to fight and lose their lives ( War ) shows that war brings destruction, unsettlement and sadness not only to the soldiers themselves that die or get injured, but also to their close friends and family, especially their mothers. It shows that there is not only bloodshed in war on the battlefields, but also that their houses become battlefields in which there is no bloodshed, but rather tearshed. This quote reminds one of All Quiet on the Western Front, wherein Kemmerich dies because of an infection from his amputation. When Paul goes on his leave, he has the task of telling Kemmerich s mother about his

The Political Theory Of The Chilean Economy Despite the small size of the Chilean economy and its rather relative weight in the global economy, several accounts acknowledge that Chile was at the forefront of the worldwide neoliberal experiment since the mid 1970s under the civic military dictatorship that ruled the nation between 1973 and 1990 (Harvey, 2005a; Klein, 2007; McChesney, 1999; Paley, 2001; Stiglitz, 2002). Indeed, the Chilean authoritarian regime not only has radically applied neoclassical theory, but also turns it into the founding philosophy of a new society (ValdГ©s, 1989: 35). The Clinton (US) and the Blair (UK) administrations in the 1990s represent promote the individual internalization of self governamentality or self responsibility. In this second wave of neoliberalism, the broad social, political, economic, and cultural principles underneath neoliberalism became common sense and were naturalized as an individual action. Finally, entrepreneurialism or the communitarian ideal of responsibility is a third wave of neoliberalism. Therefore, neoliberal policies of shrinking the state are accompanied by a proliferation of techniques to remake the subjects ; so, neoliberal logic requires free, self managing, and self enterprising individuals in different spheres of everyday life (Ong, 2006: 14). Nevertheless, neoliberalism seems to carry multiple meanings and imply different material conditions, institutional frames, and symbolic imaginaries (Ong, 2006), depending not only on historical moments, political
  • 12. Realist Lens Under a Realist lens, World War I can be described as a conflict between independent, unitary actors in an anarchic international system. A fundamental principle in Realism Theory is that world politics and the laws that goes along with it are inherently objective. In a Realist s perspective, the world is anarchic with no visible system that restrains people from deferring to their baser, animalistic instinct. In such an environment, it s kill or be killed, and under Realism, rationalism takes precedent over morals or ideals as the way to avoid self destruction (Morgenthau 1967). Unitary states ultimately seek self survival in this anarchic world, and in the words of John J. Mearshimer, States fear each other [and] regard each other with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead, constructivists argue that the most important aspect in deciphering international relations is ideas and how they are interpreted. The Great War can thus be view from a number of perspectives. Under a Marxist view it can be seen as a conflict perpetuated by capitalistic tendencies of competition among the bourgeois among Europe and fought by the oppressed proletariat. (Marx 13). It can be just as likely to interpreted its outbreak as a family feud among the grand children of Queen Victoria. For Constructivist Theory, ideas and norms dictate how states behave and are only important when states deem it as important. Constructivism as a result is based on much more abstract ideals than the other theories. Such can include economics, as is the case for Marxism; it could also be based socially, such as the claim that the European powers chose to go to war with each other in order to quell unrest among their own populations, which at that time is becoming more and more politically fragmented. As Alexander Wendt states in his article Anarchy is what States Make of It , All theories of international relations are based on social theories of the relationship between agency, process, and social structure. Social theories do not determine the content of our international theorizing, but they do structure the questions we ask about world politics and our approaches to answering those questions. (Wendt 1992) This approach in short focuses on social constructs humans project and how they relate to the way interactions take place. Because of the interpretive flexibilities inherent in Constructivist Theory, WWI could be interpreted a number of ways through Constructivist

Chapter 2 Literature Review 2.1Introduction This chapter discusses the theoretical framework of the study and is divided into four main sections. The first section describes the recent financial crisis or global economic recession. Section two reviews any similarities between the recent crisis and previous crises. Section three explores the measures taken by governments to prevent a reoccurrence of a financial crisis Section four discusses FDI and mergers and acquisitions. 2.2Financial Crisis/Global Economic Recession As defined by Eichengreen and Portes (1987) a financial crisis tends to be disruptions within financial markets and are characterised by falling asset prices and bankruptcy/liquidation among debtors which spread through the financial system, completely disrupting the markets capacity to allocate capital. It is clear that the crisis had multiple causes such as the financiers themselves especially those who claimed to have found a way to expel risk where in fact they had only lost track of it. Regulators and bankers are also to bear blame because they tolerated this recklessness. The macroeconomic backdrop was very important as years of low inflation and stable growth nurtured risk taking. Some research suggests that European banks should take blame as they borrowed greedily in American money markets pre crisis and used the funds to buy dodgy securities. All these factors together played a major role in the unravelling of the recent financial crisis

American government always complies with Keynesian for a long time, and believes that the reason that total social supply is not the same to total social demand is the lack of effective demand (the analysis of American economy). So most of the successive governments implement the expansionary deficit policies, in order to deal with cyclical fluctuations, and stimulate effective demand artificially. Deficit policies are easy to make economic bubble to stimulate the excessive consumption and promote market false prosperity, especially in the financial markets, it also has contributed to raise inflation rates. Once the bubble bursts, the economic crisis would be coming. Socialism is an economic system characterized by social ownership and cooperative management of the means of production, and a political philosophy advocating such a system (Wikipedia). In socialism, the government needs to control the whole market in order to promote the productive power according to the current market situation. The main economic strategies are based on the market and include more government control than socialism. This is the best advantages of socialism because when the economic crisis was coming, the government could adjust the macro control policies and introduced a series of initiatives to expand domestic demand and promote economic development. It achieved success quickly and efficiency. But, socialism is easy to establish monopoly enterprise. These

Transpiration Lab Report Transpiration with Solanum lycopersicum Kimberly Smith Jenna Portier, Aaliyah Hebert, Marie LaSalle, Krystal Bellanger, Thea Martin September 11, 2017 Biology 156 3T1 Abstract This lab deals with the transpiration rates in plants, specifically a tomato plant that was used for this experiment. Transpiration is when water leaves a plant through the stomata as water vapor while the stomata is capturing CO2 for photosynthesis. This experiment used three different scenarios: a tomato plant with a light shining on it, a tomato plant with wind blowing on it from a fan, and lastly a tomato plant with nothing acting on it. The hypothesis is that the rate of transpiration will be fastest with light, faster with wind, and slow with the control. This hypothesis was rejected because the rate of transpiration is as follows with the wind having the fastest rate: with light the rate was 7.60 mm/min, with wind 10.20 mm/min, and control 4.33 mm /min. The cause of the wind having a faster transpiration rate than the light may have been due to the surface area of the leaves on the tomato plants. The surface area of the leaves for the wind experiment is 8,124mm2, and for the light is 7,740mm2.By doing this transpiration experiment it helps one to see what happens in plants daily and understand why it happens. Introduction What is transpiration? Transpiration is when a plant absorbs water in its roots and the root pressure becomes high causing the plant to release the excess water as water vapor

He became a shining example of this quote by climbing the ladder from a lowly Irish immigrant to one of the richest men in history. Through aggressive and sometimes unethical means, Carnegie was able to establish firm dominance over the steel industry in the late 19th century and through the early 20th century. The manner in which Carnegie treated his workers, the government, and his competition ensured that he would forever be remembered as a industrial legend. From underpaying his employees to buying out his competitors, Carnegie continued to make the maximum amount of profit in mind (Valentine, Baker). Being a man coming into America with nothing and climbing up to become one of the richest men in the world, he would eventually become the poster boy for every Rag to Riches story. Before he became the multi million dollar tyrant we all know him as, his first job was a in a factory working as a bobbin boy. He received a measly dollar and twenty cents a week (Carnegie 34). The Identity Status Of Individuals Essay Yet, when looking at the identity status of individuals, the significant link between NSSI and identity once again emerges suggesting that is more important as to what identity status an individual has achieved (Luyckx et al, 2015b). Furthermore, in this same study, Luyckx et al (2015b) found that individuals who were currently in moratorium were more likely to have engaged in NSSI in the past, but not the present. This may suggest that NSSI is related to identity crisis and the inability of an individual to obtain identity synthesis in adolescence (Luyckx et al, 2015b). Moreover, the researchers found that individuals in achievement indicated significantly less engagement in NSSI behaviors than the other identity statuses. Additionally, individuals who were currently in the troubled diffusion status were most likely to be engaging in NSSI at the present time. This suggests as some of the other studies have suggested that identity confusion is related to NSSI (Luyckx et al, 2015b). However, NSSI was not shown to be significantly correlated with the carefree diffusion status which may be due to the individual s disinterest in identity issues (Luyckx et al, 2015b). When examining the impact of different domains of identity formation in relation to NSSI, gender differences emerge (Gandhi, Luyckx, Maitra, Claes, 2015). Distress related to interpersonal domains such as career and friendship evoked more distress in females than in males. Yet, both males and females

In the end of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Japan was a strong militaristic country that held a strong power and influence in the Asia Pacific region. It was an expansionist and strong imperialist nation similar as the Western colonizers such as England, the Dutch, Russia, France and Germany. The Japanese empire extended from the Dutch East Indies in the south to Manchuria in the north before the country surrendered on September 1945 to the Allies. The Allied Power led by General Douglas MacArthur had occupied Japan for several years before it was fully liberated in 1952. After the occupation, Japan s foreign policy was given back to its government. The country took the opportunity given to repair its relations with its neighbours. Some historians claimed that the reconciliation period was successful through several treaties agreed upon the East Asian countries in the 1960s. However, it was different side of the story when the issue was asked to the Japanese former colonies. A lot of its people will claim that they could not forget what the Empire of Japanhad done to them. Hence, it would be wise to ask how does Japan war history would affect its relations with its East Asia neighbours? This paper will explain the two most significant impacts that the aggressive Empire of Japan history affects its connections with its neighbours. History has caused the reconciliation process between the countries to be delayed and continues frictions between them to occur.

Many can recall their experiences as they enjoyed the game as a child and then continue to share it with their children. The sport has brought us many great moments such as when Jackie Robinson broke racial barriers as the first African American to play in the major leagues. When one thinks of professional baseball, many times, names of greats such as Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, and Willie Mays come to mind. What many fans over look about America s favorite past time is the period when fewer men were available to continue their participation in the sport, as many were drafted to serve in World War II. Not wanting the game to come to an end, the league brought in women hoping the spirit of the game would continue to thrive. Even though these female leagues were formed, the sport was not truly the same as the women athletes were held to different standards and not given the same opportunity as the men who had played the game. In today s society most people view softball as the female equivalent to baseball but is it really? Due to social norms it is widely accepted as true. Girls who may have started off by playing baseball with their local neighborhood friends usually have become fully adapted and successful in a softball career by high school. Because of social conditioning most parents and children do not realize that it is acceptable for girls to play on boys baseball teams if there is not an all girls baseball team

  • 32. Integrative Approach For Counseling And Its Effects On... Integrative Approach to Counseling Key Concepts The central idea in an integrative approach to counseling is one of a patient s ability to affect their life through the choices they make. William Glasser suggests most people s unhappiness stems from the lack of meaningful relationships, and most relationships are either successful or a disaster based on the choices we make (Corey, 2013). Patients are able to positively or negatively impact their mental well being by making choices that deepen their interpersonal relationships. Expanding on Glasser s ideas, existentialism and the choices it offers, gives an individual the opportunity to experience freedom. They are no longer tied to a deterministic view of life, but are instead given license to create the life they wish to have, unencumbered by the weight of societal, cultural, or familial expectations (Corey, 2013). Both choice theory and existentialism closely mirror ideas taught in Protestant Christianity: people are free to make choices about their behavior and lifestyle, and all choices have an outcome. That outcome can be positive (salvation), or negative (damnation). If one believes the rules as explained in the Bible, the outcome of one s life rests in their choices. Counselor s role In most cases, the counselor will best serve their client by taking on a not knowing role in the relationship, allowing the client to become the expert in their own lives (Corey, 2013). Symptoms And Possible Treatment Options For Apert Syndrome According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH, 2013), Apert syndrome is a genetic disease that results in the premature fusion of the sutures between the bones of the skull (craniosynostosis), which causes an abnormally shaped head and face. Apert syndrome accounts for approximately 4.5% of all craniosynostosissyndromes, with an estimated birth prevalence of 1:64,500 (Giancotti et al., 2014, p. 1445). Because children with Apert syndrome exhibit a variety of craniofacial and central nervous system anomalies, many of them are likely to demonstrate severe speech and languagedifficulties. As a future speech language pathologist, it is important to be aware of some of the major factors contributing to these children s speech and language problems in order to better serve them and their families. Thus, in this paper, I will closely examine the causes, signs and symptoms, and possible treatment options for Apert syndrome, as well as explore some of the speech, language, hearing, and other related problems often associated with it. Causes Apert syndrome is caused by a genetic mutation that occurs early on in pregnancy. Recently, researchers at Oxford University identified the specific genetic change that results in the characteristic features of Apert syndrome. They report that slight, specific changes in the genetic makeup of chromosome number 10, known as Fibroblast Growth Receptor Factor 2 (FGFR2), causes the rare syndrome. All children receive two

Kyoto Protocol And Its Effect On Climate Change Essay In 1997, the Kyoto Protocol attempted to achieve the results that had been sought out when most of the nations of the world agreed to the terms set forth in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 1992. The new treaty puts enforcement mechanisms in place, including the idea of carbon trading, that would reinforce the importance of lowering the amount of CO2 being released into our atmosphere. Looking back to that decision made eighteen years ago, I do not believe that the concept of carbon trading should have been introduced in lieu of a carbon tax as it is now a crutch used by corporations, both big and small, to either improve the profitability of their company by selling their unused carbon permits or to lawfully exceed the carbon limits by purchasing and using carbon permits as a free pass for excessive pollution. The abundance of greenhouse gas emissions are known to be the highest in America and in 2001 shortly after President Bush took office he rejected the Kyoto treaty, President Bush s reason for the rejection was his claim that it would harm the U.S. economy. The carbon emissions trading the buying and selling of permits to emit greenhouse gasses caused by fossil fuels has been a top strategy for reducing pollution (Weeks, 1). But this is not the case for carbon trading as the protocol, most of the world s wealthy countries agreed to reduce their GHG emissions by fixed percentage (Weeks, 6), states Weeks as well as

There are several reasons why robots of these types are a benefit to the soldiers on the ground in places like Iraq and Afghanistan. These innovations keep our fighting force away from many dangerous events. However, the militaryseems to be leaning toward a world where the infantry will be totally comprised of machines an unsympathetic robot killing force. The argument is that these robots will have no hesitation to kill, making the human soldierobsolete. These robots also require no training or housing. Even though robots will kill without question and cost less overall, robots will not benefit war times because they take away our military s heart and soul, they eliminate the humanitarian effort, and their programming can be unpredictable. Lincoln was known for composing his speeches thoughtfully and was known as a slow writer who liked to tighten phrases and logic (Wills 28). On the morning of the Gettysburg address, Lincoln toured the battlefield and visited the grave of a friend, General Reynolds. Martin Johnson, in Writing the Gettysburg Address , says that the speech was created by a series of events in history based on Lincoln s experiences (Johnson 4). One such experience that influenced Lincoln was the death of his son in 1862. His grief over the loss of his son impacted the speech in that he showed emotion about the young men who had died on the battlefield.
