Protective Factors that Prevent Child Abuse & NeglectJim McKay
The Center for the Study of Social Policy (CSSP) has completed a comprehensive research
analysis, which identified five Protective Factors that are linked to the prevention of child abuse and neglect.
These Protective Factors or “Circles of Caring” are conditions in families and communities that,
when present, increase the health and well-being of children and families. These attributes also
serve as buffers against risk factors for child maltreatment.

Center based child misses out parent child interaction .docxtidwellveronique
Center based child misses out parent child interaction
Center based child misses out parent child interaction.
Children are placed in child care centers due to different circumstances one of them being work pressure for both parents. The other reason is that the child might be an orphan. In some circumstances professionals such as paediatricians advice parents to take their children to child centers so that they can be given good care by people who are qualified to handle children affairs. Children with special needs who attend child care centers at an early age miss out important learning that occurs in parental child interaction. One might question how a child who goes to daycare behavior might be different compared to a child that stays at home with parents. Depending on various circumstances, a child who attends daycare may be better prepared than kids who stay home exclusively with their parents. Judith Katz, an administrator from Minee Subee Early Education and Childcare centers says “While an ordinary daycare may watch over your child with safety in mind until pickup, an extraordinary daycare center may dedicate themselves to helping prepare your child for the future.”
To start with, entrusting children to someone else's care, even for just part of the day, can be troubling for most parents. This leads to a weaker bond between mother and child, particular in the infant and toddler stage. The American Academy of Pediatrics warns that illness often spreads easily when children congregate together in venues such as daycare and school. Frequent and thorough hand washing with antibacterial soap serves as a means of reducing the spread of illness in the home. This alone proves that the children are always at risk of getting infections.
Parent and family characteristics are more strongly linked to child development than were child care center’s features. The child’s outcome is better when the mother is responsive, sensitive, and attentive and provide good stimulation to their child. Families with organized routines, books, play materials and engaged in outings and library trips have their children have good social and cognitive outcomes. In child care centers, most of these services may not be given to the child. Most child care Centre provide warm, supportive environment that protect the child’s health and safety but do not provide care giving which promotes and stimulates development. Parents value both compliance and social skills more than caretaker. This kind of personal attachment makes the child feel valued and important which stimulates child’s development. This personal touch provided by the parent is not given to the children in child care Centre. Where parent is mostly involved in child growth, child’s developing sense of independence, self-concept and self-esteem is supported. Parents usually make their children feel needed since they keep on seeking assistance from th ...

Making Philanthropy a Family Affair Bryan Granum.pdfBryan Granum
Children are highly impressionable, and this is a great time for their parents to instill key philanthropic values for the future – namely empathy, compassion, and open-mindedness toward the world around them.
By making such tenets a family tradition, parents can position their children to become kinder, humbler adults conducive to a stronger social climate – all while strengthening their own philanthropic identities along the way.

Understanding the Influence of
Culture on Caregiving Practices • • •
From the Inside Out
Lisa and Danielle are collegial
coteachers in an infant and tod-
dler classroom. Occasionally
what seem like minor Issues
cause them to make some
pointed comments that silence
them both. For example, Lisa
believes that babies need to
be held and cuddled as often
as possible; she carries them
throughout the day or picks
them up at the first sign of fuss-
iness. She frequently observes
aloud, "Babies need lots of
love and attention." Danielle
responds by rolling her eyes
and saying, "They also need
to learn to soothe themselves.
You're going to spoil them if
you pick them up and carry
them all the time."
Their different views about
feeding can also lead to minor
conflicts. Lisa refuses to let
babies eat with their fingers.
She thinks they won't get
enough to eat and that it's too
messy. Danielle lets babies pick
up food off their trays as soon
as they are able, stating that "it
helps them to deveiop indepen-
dence and small muscles."
Why do Lisa and Danielle
each get exasperated with the
other's "illogical" way of think-
ing? Their own upbringings
and cultural perspectives about
children influence their views
on everyday activities such as
holding, responding to, and
feeding infants and toddlers.
naeyc 1,3,7
Everyone bring^s specific vaiues,
beliefs, and assumptions about child recir-
ing and child development to their work
with infants and toddlers. Even two teach-
ers who share the same ethnic culture may
not share the same beliefs about what is
best for young children. Conflicts around
these issues can arise with colleagues and
families in early care and education pro-
grams. Recognizing and acknowledging
another person's point of view and coming
to a shared solution is critical in providing
high-quality care to infants and toddlers.
The roots of caregiving
It is helpful to understand and explore
two particular areas when caring for infants
and toddlers—self-knowledge and knowl-
edge of culturally informed teaching (Abt-
Perkins & Rosen 2000).
Self-knowledge
Self-knowledge is defined here as "a thor-
ough understanding of one's own cultural
roots and group affiliations" (Haberman
& Post 1998). Before we as teachers can
address the needs of very young children,
we must first become more aware of our
own cultural beliefs and practices. By taking
a good look at our early relationships and
childhood experiences, we can recognize
the influence that these factors have on our
role as caregivers, as well as on our feel-
ings, attitudes, and beliefs about children.
The people we were close to as we grew
up—and our experiences with them—shape
who we are today. Most of us still believe
much of what those special people taught
us about ourseives, other people, and the
world. The messages our caregivers con-
veyed in words and actions reflected their
cultures, beliefs, values, ...

Week 1/Post 1: Formulating Goals
1.
The two professional goals you developed related to anti-bias education and your work in an early childhood setting.
· Goal 1: Developing relationships to form inclusive communities in the classroom
· Goa1 2: Develop an awareness of how unconscious bias can impact the classroom.
2.
The ways in which the readings and media segment from this week have influenced the formulation of your goals. Be sure to support your comments with specific references to and/or examples from the Required Resources.
According to Walden University (2011) “The world today is a world in which children are going to grow up side-by-side with people who are very, very different from them. The notion of growing up in a community of people very much like you is gone” (pg. 1). I also came across a website “
Teaching Tolerance,” where it discussed critical practices for anti-bias education and teacher leadership. This article was about the importance of valuing and embracing multiple perspectives to reach the best and most comprehensive approach to leadership. The author suggests teacher leaders reflect on what they still don’t know and need to learn about something to seek out professional development for growth in those areas; the author really promotes the idea of having self-awareness to diminish bias and become culturally aware in teacher leader practices (Learning for Justice, 2022). Both the “Walden and Teaching Tolerance” sources are about the road and progression to becoming an anti-bias educator.
3.
The ways in which the implementation of these goals will help you to work more effectively with young children and families.
I aspire to be an anti-biased channel in which students will experience culture in a vast and more comprehensive way. Children’s experiences in education should teach the four goals of anti-bias education (i.e., identity, diversity, justice, and activism) and promote the ultimate goal of equality and social equity for all (NAEYC, n.d.). I am, the compilation of everything experienced in my life. With this, we are constantly growing, changing, adapting new view and discarding others. Each experience builds on the last to continue to reinforce the structure you are each day. As future educators, it is our job to be the future of knowledge. What we say, do, actions we take directly reflect what our students see. Choose your curriculum wisely, but choose your words even more carefully. Take the wealth of knowledge you and only your life has accumulated and share it with each class you have the chance to influence. Be the spark of change and the advocate to every child that walks through your door.
4.
Challenges you might encounter on your journey to become an early childhood professional who understands and practices anti-bias education.
Cult.
It is a good idea to make sure your child attends a faith-based school, where more learning is a strong part of that education system. With a faith-based school, children can learn more than just the basic facts, and will instead also understand how their decisions can have a wider impact, or lead onto negative consequences.
A childcare center will teach children how to cooperate and share with one another. By allowing children to engage with others, social skills are developed earlier rather than later. To know more, explore the blog today!
Childcare is an important part of a child's growth and development because it gives kids a safe, caring place to grow physically, socially, emotionally, and mentally. Parents can choose from different kinds of child care, such as centre-based care, family care, nanny care, and babysitters. A child&’s socialisation, cognitive development, emotional development, and readiness for school can all be affected by the quality of care they get. It&’s important to do research before choosing a childcare in Dural.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

1. Homeschooling the teenager
As children start maturing into adults, parents feel insecure
about homeschooling. Many parents then discontinue the
homeschooling process and happily hand over the reign to outside
authorities. But is this really necessary? Is the strictly
compartmentalized education provided in schools a better option?
If social concerns are worrying you, look for interest-oriented
associations, clubs and societies. These offer a lot of support
for leaders, opportunity for shared experience, and foster a sense
of belonging. Make up your own group or share this responsibility
with someone else. Home education support groups provide fantastic
opportunities to meet your child's needs. This is the best way to
develop intelligent, self-motivated, healthy and able young
people.
If the growing burden of some of the higher level Math or Science
seems to be beyond you, enlist the help of someone who knows more.
You can even barter your own services and thus save some money.
With homeschooling becoming more and more popular, support groups
will have innumerable resources that help you find the right
teacher for your child.
The underlying principle that guides homeschooling is this: any
child has the innate capacity to grow, develop and achieve its
full potential. All it needs is the right environment and all the
right answers. Be there to provide these and think twice before
you turn over this responsibility to a third party.
