George Washington Carver was a pioneering black leader who showed leadership through his scientific contributions to agriculture rather than seeking fame or confrontation. He made over 300 discoveries of new uses for peanuts and also developed innovations for sweet potatoes, pecans, and soybeans that improved the livelihoods of black farmers. Carver believed his talents were given to him by God and should benefit people rather than be sold for profit. He donated his life savings to found the Carver Research Foundation to continue his important agricultural work. Carver set a high standard for servant leadership that improved conditions for all African Americans through genuine contributions rather than benefiting only a few.
