Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

1. Judge Dredd
Judge Dredd is based on the famous comic book story set in 2139 and the earths population
have joined into ‘Mega Cities’ where crime is a major problem and a way of life for most
residents. With the original justice system failing there is now a new kind of police officers
to try and control the crime, these are known as judges. In Mega city 1 there is one Judge
known as Judge Dredd who is one of the best and most powerful Judges in the city.
The original Plotline for Judd Dredd which was realised in 1995 was about one police office
named Judge Dredd in Mega city 1 was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.
However he then discovers that it was another Judge who shared his DNA had actually
commited the murder and it was up to him to find out what he was up to. Sylvestor Stallone
plays the part of Judge Dredd and is at the height of his career when he filmed this.
However fans of the original comic book were not happy with the film as stallone’s face is
shown numerous times throughout the film, possibly to help keep his profile up where as in
the books judge Dredd’s face is not shown as part of his uniform is his helmet.
Dredd which was realised in 2012 has a completely different storyline to the original film.
Although the film is set in the same place and time unlike dredd isn’t under suspicion
himself. Instead he asks to train a new Judge who happens to be a powerful Physic and
when called to an ordinary call out of a possible homicide they are put in a fight to the death
situation. Dredd is a much preferred film than the orginal to fans of the comic book as it
represents the character more than the actor playing him.
