1. REACTIONS TO THE TREATY OF VERSAILLES
- Some considered treaty to be fair
- Because the war had caused so much death and
damage and someone was to pay for all of it
- Germany supposed to be weaker, so they will not attack
again
- People in France and Britain wanted revenge against
Germany and politicians listened to stay in power.
- Others said that the treaty was too harsh
- The Germans were left weak and resentful
- Caused anger and signalled future trouble
- Problems in building a new Europe because Germany
was weak and cannot afford to pay the huge reparations
set in the treaty
- Newly formed countries were weak
- Germany hated the treaty
- They lost industrial areas and their economy was
crippled
- Could not afford reparations
- Did not accept guilt for starting the war
- Suffered an economic crisis
- Lost colonies
- Many Germans lived under foreign rule in new
countries
- Saw other countries not disarming
- Did not accept the defeat
- Lost pride without an army
