Bolinopsis Infundibulum

Common Northern Comb Jelly, possess the characteristic eight rows of fused cilia that stretch

Gelatinous tissue, which is 95% water constitutes the oblong body of the Bolinopsis infundibulum;
this is a major impediment for researchers as whenever they attempt to obtain samples of this
organism the body mostly disintegrates (Hopcroft, 2008.) Ctenophores such as Bolinopsis
infundibulum consume prey through a utilization of colloblasts, adhesive cells which glue prey to
its two miniscule tentacles for subsequent indigestion. The macrocilia that are located... Show more

Essay on History of Cosmetic Surgery
History of Cosmetic/Plastic Surgery
COM150
Plastic surgery is a medical specialty dealing with on the correction or restoring of external
damage to the body. The word plastic comes from the Greek plastikos meaning to mold or to
shape (Answers, 2010). Cosmetic surgery involves techniques to enhance the appearance through
surgical and medical techniques. I will also investigate the most popular surgery procedures of the
last couple years. Do you wonder how this type of surgery went from treating war wounds, burn
victims, and children born with defects to breast enhancements and face lifts? We will explore how
Plastic surgery began and how it progressed through the centuries, to what we all know it as

It has steadily become a very lucrative industry in today s world. In 2006, almost 11 million
cosmetic procedures were performed in the United States alone. The number of cosmetic
procedures performed in the United States has increased over 50 percent since the start of the
century. Almost 12 million cosmetic procedures were performed in 2007, with the five most
common surgeries being breast augmentation, liposuction, nasal surgery, eyelid surgery, and
abdominoplasty. The increased use of cosmetic procedures crosses racial and ethnic lines in the
U.S., with increases seen among African Americans and Hispanic Americans as well as Caucasian
Americans. In Europe, the second largest market for cosmetic procedures, cosmetic surgery is a
$2.2 billion business (Plastic surgeon HQ, 2010, 1 p.p.).

Thirty Shekels
word of the Lord: thus says the Lord, Tomorrow about this time a measure of choice meal shall be
sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria ) that one ephad of
barley was worth one shekel, thus making the total value of the silver and the barley thirty
shekels. The price of a slave was thirty shekels (Exod 21:32 if the ox gores a male or female slave,
the owner shall pay to the slave owner thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned ), it is
possible to infer that Hosea paid thirty shekels to a person (possibly the paramour) to whom
Gomer, in her ramshackle state, had sold herself.

By doing this, he returns to her what he used to give her in their former married life, but
withdrew from her at the time of their separation. This is also how Yahweh acted towards Israel.
He too gave her what she needed but withdrew it from her because of Israel s unfaithfulness. In the
new relationship, just as in Hosea s, Yahweh s gift to Israel will be his faithfulness and Love.
Whatever the exact details, it is evident that Hosea is making an attempt at restoring his relationship
with Gomer on the basis of some kind of payment. This level of understanding, though not very
precise, is sufficient for reconstructing the symbolic import of the event for the relationship between
Yahweh and Israel and more pertinent for this thesis, the relationship between Hosea and Gomer.
Having executed God s command in Hosea 3:2, in 3:3 we encounter Hosea s directive to Gomer.
This is very closely connected to the section dealing with the execution of the Divine command
since a successful execution of Yahweh s command would logically demand Hosea s instruction to
his wife.Hosea3:3 can therefore be divided into four different parts as demonstrated below:
And I said to her, You must remain as mine for many days; you shall not play the whore, you shall

Self Reflection And Professional Development
In my journey of becoming a professional teacher, the main two events which took place in my life
were self reflection and professional development.
In my opinion, self reflection is to reflect back and think about what I have done in order to
develop myself. As it is written in the Collaborative website of the MCH Training Grantee
Network, self reflection is the way of evaluating the effect of our values, style of thinking and
communicating and experience. Also the process of self reflecting helps to develop people s
culture, skills and principles since these may affect the future actions and learning.
There are many benefits of self reflection. It helps teachers to give a clear picture of what they

As professional learning association in the year 2015 states, professional development is defined to
be the basic tool that education institutes can use to help the teaching staff continuously learn and
develop their skills and knowledge. According to Guskey. T, (2010), high quality professional
development is the major element in nearly every modern proposal for improving education,
The primary purpose of professional development is to prepare and support teachers by giving them
the knowledge and skills they need to help all students achieve high standards of learning and
development (U.S. Department of Education, 1996).
Professional development is not a one day job. It should be a continuous thing if teachers want to
become knowledgeable. In the early days, to refresh teachers, weekly workshops or seminars were
conducted which was not very effective. Now the trend has changed. It became a continuous
process. All the trainings that are carried out including course level ones are also known as
professional development. Teachers gain a lot of knowledge, training and experience from those

How To Write A Visual Analysis Of Kid s Crest Toothpaste
There are great advertisements that influence many magazine readers around the world. In the
November 2011 published magazine of Yum for Kids , Crest placed an advertisement for their
product, Kid s Crest (Toothpaste), which was created to appeal to kids and parents. That ad s
effectiveness relies on irony, simplicity, and specific language choice to appeal to the kids and
parents as well as build the brand s credibility and the consumer s trust in the product. The magazine
, Yum for Kids, appeals to wide variety of audiences, with articles and contents mostly pertaining to
kindergartens, elementary students, and parents. With delicious, healthy, fun food and new recipes,
it is clear that this magazine is mostly read by parents and kids, who are interested in family

Are video games useful? Do they serve any type of larger purpose other than providing

A study done at Stanford in 1997 found that the games were extremely effective. Brown et. al
(1997) found that diabetic children who played the Packy and Marlon game were four times
less likely (77% decrease) to require urgent health care visits than those who played a different
game. The conclusions here suggest that well designed video games can be highly appealing
and motivating learning environments for players. In these virtual worlds, players have access
to unlimited opportunities to rehearse skills, experience social support (between peers who also
played the game as well as the game characters themselves), actively obtain and use information,
and receive immediate feedback on their performance. Essentially it is a virtual world that
allows for cognitive social learning to occur. Lieberman (2001) found that children who played
Bronkie experienced a gain in asthma related self efficacy, while those who watched a 30 minute
video tape about asthma self care experienced a decrease in self efficacy. The researchers
believed this difference in self efficacy scores may have occurred because while the video tape
presented a lot of how to information, it did not offer any opportunity for the children to practice
using those skills. Experience is a crucial component of self efficacy because it allows for self
reflection, rehearsal, and with success it

The Benefits Of Organic Food And Organic Foods
As consumers, we see the label organic in most supermarkets that we shop at every day, but do
we know what makes certain food items obtain the label organic? There is much controversy on
the topic organic foods and for good reason. There are many factors to take into account when
decided if organic food is superior to conventionally grown foods. There are key components that
all amount to how nutritious your food is. It all comes down to the quality of the land that the food
is grown on, the farming technique, the elimination of toxic chemicals, and the increase in certain
beneficial vitamins. The only downside to being pro organic foodis the slightly increased price tag.
Despite the increased cost, organic foods are a healthier choice compared to conventional chemical
ridden foods.
In the United States, organic food has become so popular people don t have to grow their own
food or even find a farmers market to be able to obtain organic food. You can typically find it in
supermarkets everywhere. Organic farming has been around for quite some time; it first became
popular during the 1940s. Throughout the decades, people gained more knowledge on the benefits
of farming and eating organic. George Kuepper, a sustainable agriculture specialist, notes, . . . while
one can t say that the 60 s counterculture invented organic farming, it is fair to say that it created the
organic industry (9). During this time period, there was more information available about the

Personal Statement of Cancer Research Interest
Biological sciences have always been the interest of my academic path. Later, in my high school
career it became increasingly clear that oral study was my passion. I have since dedicated my
efforts to becoming a general dentist, however dentistry is not where I would like to settle. I plan
to conduct research of various oral diseases and hopefully provide more insight into the issues that
affect that region of the body.
Cancer research is very necessary considering the number of people who fall victim to the
currently incurable disease. As a biology major my needs for scientific exploration are being met,
however, I d like to further my knowledge. My goal is to advance in the field of science

Taking a Look at Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer is the most common type of carcinoma and the second leading cause of cancer
death in men, following carcinoma of the lung. The risk of developing prostate cancer increases
with age, beginning at age 50, and is also higher among African American men. The two highest
age subpopulations diagnosed are men 55 64 and 65 74 years of age, comprising 29.0% and 35.6%
of all prostate cancerdiagnoses, respectively. The age adjusted incidence rate of prostate canceris
159.3 per 100,000 men per year2. By race, black men have the highest incidence rate of this
disease with an incidence rate of 239.8 per 100,000 men, while Hispanic men have the lowest
with a rate of 133.4 per 100,000 men. The death rate of African Americans is more than double
that of any other race with a mortality rate of 56 per 100,000 men2. Recent data indicates that
cancer develops in 30% of black men ages 50 59 and in 39% of black men 60 692. This is in
contrast to 8% of black men developing it between the ages of 40 and 49. Similar data has been
shown for men with a family history . The age adjusted death rate from prostate cancer has
fortunately decreased by 3.4% between 2001 and 2006 and the lifetime risk of developing prostate
cancer is 15.9% for American men (i.e. 1 in every 6 men) 2.
Though relatively prevalent, the death rate of prostate cancer is lower than that of lung cancer in
men because of, among many other reasons, its slow natural course . Prostate cancer is a very

How Did Kotoku Change
Kotoku was born in 1871 in rural Tosa and matured in the hectic reform years of the Meiji
period. During his maturity, Japan was undergoing changes that lead to impending dangers. The
years of the Meiji Restoration in 1868 changed from feudal system of the Edo period to a
compulsory system of equal education and enlistment to the army. Japan underwent intense
reforms that changed its social, political, and economic aspects. The reforms shook the
foundations of the dying regime and gave birth to a new society. The social Caste system was
toppled, and the day to day lives of the Japanese changed with a revolution. This achievement
was shortly thereafter betrayed by the ruling party. The ruling elite s imperialistic pursuit was
viewed as a betrayal to the Meiji Restoration. The revolution promised a fair society in
submission of universal ideals. While in Tosa, Kotoku was educated in the new educational
system and its new political ideals, which had opened up due to radical Meiji reforms. He was
known as a socialist and anarchist because of his distaste towards the political leaders as he felt
betrayed by the promise of the Meiji restoration. The revolution became a restoration of the past and
reinstated the emperor as the one true ruler. Kotoku believed in completing the revolution that had...

The Passage of Time and Life in The Swimmer, by John Cheever
Having written a multitude of short stories and novels, author, John Cheever, has showcased his
incredible writing abilities multiple times throughout his career. Even as a child, Cheever
outwardly expressed his desire to write. As proven by his longstanding career, Cheever s thirst for
writing remained with him throughout his entire life. In perhaps his most famous piece of work,
The Swimmer, Cheever s impeccable writing ability is showcased brilliantly. Although originally
set out to be a novel, The Swimmer has grown to become a widely recognized and analyzed short
story, one which both readers and literary critics alike admire. By drawing on his personal life and

It is this structure precisely that gives Cheever s works the power to resonate with a wide range of
individuals. Author of John Cheever s Flowering Forth: The Breakthroughs of 1947, James O Hara,
discusses this aspect of Cheever s writing in his academic journal:
He had continued to experiment with the choice of materials for his stories, and had gradually won
over editors with a combination of solid structural technique he had always known how to put a
story together and Hemingwayesque understatement. (51)
Although O Hara did not specifically address the short story The Swimmer in this particular
excerpt, this quotation is nonetheless viable and true in its claims.
Along with a solid structure, in order for a piece of fiction to resonate with readers, the work also
has to have meaningful characters. Cheever has proven to excel in this aspect of writing as well.
This excellence can also be attributed to Cheever and his personal life. Bloom writes: Just like
his characters, then, Cheever was not a perfect man, yet he was a decent one, who believed in
heroism and sentiment and family and a minor man s capacity to glory. Neddy Merrill, the main
character in The Swimmer, can be described in a similar manner, for he too is an imperfect man
who seeks glory and purpose. In the same vein, literary analyst, Robert A. Morace, states: The
characters in this and other Cheever fictions all face the same

The Role Of Endothelin Receptor Populations On Ventricular...
Use of Competitive Radioligand Binding to examine Endothelin Receptor Populations on
Ventricular Cardiomyocyte Membranes of Spontaneous Hypertensive Rats. Abstract
This investigation concerned the relationship between endothelin receptor populations on the
ventricular cardiomyocyte membrane of spontaneous hypertensive rats at 16 weeks old. The use
of radioligand competitive binding assay method, involving the displacement of [125I]ET 1 by 3
competitive, cold ligands, ET 1, ET 3 and BQ123, allowed for the generation of competition
binding curves, that adopted either a one site or two site model and allowed the determination of
relative IC50s and identification of receptor proportions. ET 3 produced a two site model
suggesting the existence of ET A and ET B receptors on cardiomyocyte membranes in SHRs and
calculated that around 29% of receptors were ET B, whereas ET 1 and BQ123 both produced one
site models.
Introduction
Endothelin peptide family is a group of 3 isoforms of a peptide, comprising of 21 amino acids, all
of which are formed from the same larger precursor, pro endothelin 1 by endothelin converting
enzyme. (Inoue A et al,1989) Each isoform is distinguished from the others by a differing gene,
with endothelin 2 and 3 differing from endothelin 1 by 2 and 6 amino acids, respectively. (Inoue A

Athenian Democracy In Athens
The Athens law that allows every single man of Athens to share and glorifies their superiority
over their peer poleis. In reality, the Democracy in Athens are made of Three Branches. The
Assembly (Ekklesia) states that all male citizens over 18 met ten times a year and can make
executive decisions like declaring war and create laws. The Assembly contradicts Periclesspeech
since it only allow white males (not slaves) to create laws and make executive decisions.
The Council of 500 (Boule) contradicts Pericles by declaring that the executive committee for
the Assembly are served a one year, non renewable term and they administered the treasury and
foreign affairs. This may not be fair since the executive committee members are vetoed or
chosen to stay longer period of times because of their skill or good decision making, but rather
more on males are chosen and they serve one year max not depending on their performance .
Pericles had stated that the Athens democracy allowed the equal justice to all under the Athens
law that allows every single man of Athens to share and glorifies their superiority over their peer
poleis. In addition, The Courts (Dikasteria of Heliaia) allowed between 200 1,000 citizens who
were randomly selected to represent the voice of the people in trials no appeals! Served a one
year, non renewable term. Pericles sees Athens as best conducive to freedom, liberty, courage,
honor, and justice the values most honored by the Athenians. This is contradiction because The
Courts doesn t appoint male citizens because of their good sense and intellect, but rather because
they are male and they couldn t be promoted any further (just a year).
These above evidence proved that Pericles views democracy as the best form of government are
not reliable. He preached that he viewed Athens as superior to their fellow city states. In fact,
Pericles sees Athens as having the ultimate possible for freedom, liberty, courage, honor, and
justice. In a statement oozing with patriotism, Pericles proclaims: We cultivate refinement without
extravagance and knowledge without effeminacy; wealth we employ more for use than for show,
and place the real disgrace of poverty not in owning to the fact but in declining

What Is The Most Beautiful Vacation Essay
Most Beautiful Vacation Destinations
Choosing vacations destinations can become a hectic process. However, if the goal is to find
locations outside of the United States and want to travel to countries in the Caribbean and Latin
America I have a few suggestions for you. Negril, Jamaica and Cancun, Mexico are amongst the
best vacation spots I have ever visited. The accommodations, the beaches, and the cuisine are
remarkable in both countries.
The accommodations in Negril, Jamaica were remarkable. Negril, Jamaica is the second location
outside of the United States I vacationed. The resort I stayed in was a five star all inclusive adult
only resort named Swept Away. The accommodations in Swept Away were astonishing. I stayed
in a bungalow. The bungalows are separate from the main resort rooms. The bungalow stood on
the beach near the shoreline. The room was enormous. In it there was a queen size bed made of
wood and two lounge chairs. The bedding was bright white linen and the cushions on the lounge
chairs were made of the identical bright white linen. A large white mosquito net was draped
around the bed. The white bedding, cushions and mosquito net gave the room a pleasant, tranquil
and dreamy ambiance. Also, there was a balcony adjacent to the room. The balcony contained a
white linen sofa and two end tables made of wood. The view from the balcony was of the
picturesque blue ocean and the beach.
The beaches in Negril, Jamaica were light brown almost beige colored sand. The sand felt like
soft miniature pebbles between your toes when stepped on. Majority of the time, mellow calypso
or reggae music could be heard originating from unknown locations on the beach. Which almost
seemed magical. Adding to magical atmosphere the beach appeared to disappear right into the
clear blue ocean. When standing on the beach and looking out towards the ocean, the ocean
seemed to go on forever with never ending blue water. Also, on the beach at midday the smells of

The Role Of Social Stratification In The 17th Century
The economic affairs of the 16th to 17th century England a period where England experienced
extreme population growth encouraged the migration of more than half of the English population
west across the Atlantic . In addition to its population s growth, England was amid a civil war and
a revolution during 1642 1660, that consequently propagated waves of political and economic
refugees, finding their way to the Caribbean, to escape from the nation s civil conflicts . Taking note
of the ways in which dominant European powers Portugal and Spainconducted forms of active
exploration and exploitation of the New World. Distinctly, for the reasons of, accumulation of land,
wealth, and political power through means of exploiting its colonies resources. Virtually, England
sought to mimic the Spanish economic success in their own Caribbean exploits. In contrast to the
ways in which the Spanish pursued their own economic goals. The English economic success,
relied on private companies to carry out commercial and colonial efforts . To emphasize, this meant
that private men and companies secured the right from the crown to claim and settle islands in the
Caribbean. Notably, these private men and companies advantageous socio economic status,
consequently began to formulate the make up of the social stratificationin the English colonies.

Solomon Reed Archetypes
Archetypes are twelve different models of people s minds. These archetypes are formed by
experiences we had as we evolve throughout our lives. My archetype I have chosen for Solomon
Reed is the sage. The sage s goal is to use intelligence and analysis to understand the world. His
biggest fear is to be misled. The three charactertraits Solomon Reed has are that he is persistent,
prominent and creative. Solomon is persistent. To be persistent is to constantly pursue a course of
action. Solomon s friends have been trying to get him outside for a long time, but frankly, he s
terrified. One night, despite what he told himself, he manages to gather the courage to walk outside
of his house. The outside to Solomon is, as the book states, a void... Show more content on

This noteworthy significance he has is the fact that he refuses to step out of his house. He even
provides his logic for it. He says, I have food, I have water and most important it never gets out of
control. By staying in house he can manage his life without fear and that also makes him unique
and unusual or...noteworthy. Finally, Solomon is creative, which means he uses his
imagination to solve problems. A show that Solomon watches is Star Trek. In this show there is
a special room called a Holodeck. Solomon is so infatuated by this room, that he has his father
model the garage into a replica of the Holodeck. Even though it looked cool, this was not the
only significance of it to Solomon. It also, became a comfortable place for Solomon to go when
he had a panic attack. This shows his creativity because he found a functional and fun way to help
him cope with his panic attacks. Solomon is persistent, noteworthy and creative. He is persistent
because he decided to go outside despite is unwillingness to do so. He is noteworthy because
unlike most kids, he has unusual behaviors that result in him staying inside often. And finally, he is
creative, because he used his imagination to help him deal with his health problems in a unique
way. Because of these three character traits I believe that Solomon is a Sage

The Relationship Between Trauma And Addiction Essay
The Relationship Between Trauma and Addiction The experience of trauma can bring about
feelings that are difficult for anyone else to understand. The feelings become even more
complicated with addiction. It is important for practitioners to first understand the relationship of
trauma and addiction to one another. Once the relationship is better understood, connections can be
made to possible treatments and why those treatments should be used. Research testing these
treatments can give possible avenues for practitioners to venture when faced with someone who is
recovering from trauma and also facing a substance use disorder. The research available is a good
start when trying to define the relationship between this co occurring disorder.
Reviewing the Literature on Trauma and Addictions The relationship between trauma and the
possibility of addiction has been discussed often in research. In a study of alcohol dependency,
Johnson (2010) found that women who have a dependency on alcohol also show a higher
prevalence of trauma in their childhood. In this same study, Johnson (2010) also concluded that
alcohol dependent men and women experienced almost the same amount of trauma overtime. In a
surprising discovery, Johnson (2010) also found that women who were not dependent on cocaine,
but were dependent on alcohol had a higher prevalence of trauma in their childhood than all men in
the study and alcohol dependent women addicted to cocaine. Murphy et al. (2013) tested

Fountainhead Essay Outline
Ayn Rand, the author of the book Fountainhead, had very strong and insightful beliefs. One such
belief, as quoted by Ayn Rand, pertains to the idea of people that do not follow trends. She
believes that throughout history there have been people that decided to step off of the path that
everyone was on, in order to create their vision that no one has had before. The second someone
does something different many people start to think they are crazy and do not think their ideas are
practical. Although the inventors face much opposition, they still manage to come out on top. Ayn

Implementation Plan
In June 2017, Youth Uprising will create a district wide policy with Alameda County to screen
all A.A. students for stress and anxiety (See Appendix A). Starting July 2017, Beauty in the
Process program will be the result of the new district wide policy in Alameda County (See
Appendix A). This will be a pilot program for one year at Lincoln Middle School in Alameda,
California. Volunteers will be recruited from the school s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and in
return each volunteer, up to six persons, will receive a school supply grant for $500. Youth
UpRising will provide a program coordinator, certified health educator, social worker and guidance
counselor from the organization s program to make the recruitment processes easier.
The program will partner with Flying Yoga Studios in Alameda, since they already have experience
teaching yoga and meditation to younger children. The partnership will give student yoga
instructors more community hours while assisting a certified yoga instructor. This will ensure
students get more attention during sessions with two paid yoga instructors plus additional student
instructors. Volunteers will then be fingerprinted and background checked. Art instructor will be

Prescriptivism v. Descriptivism
The Language Wars have been waged in the realm of English Literature, Language and
Linguistics for years. Both sides of the argument are staunch believers in their position, but are
more than willing to concede points to the other sides favour. In Bryan A. Garner s essay,
Making Peace in the Language Wars , he describes himself as a descriptive prescriber (Garner,
Making Peace in the Language Wars 2008, 270), and offers a truce that fulfils both sides of the
argument as the crux of his essay. While the separate sides of the argument are relatively easy to
define, it seems that no one sticks to them religiously, and the argument is between individuals

George Orwell states that, our civilization is decadent and our language...must inevitably share in
the general collapse (Orwell 2000, 1), when he argues for prescriptivism (though toned down from
what was taught and accepted in his day). While Garner posits that, describers, meanwhile, remind
us that linguistic change is a fact of life and conclude that it s therefore not worth opposing
(Garner, Making Peace in the Language Wars 2008, 272). When David Foster Wallacediscusses
descriptivism, he makes a historical reference to, Philip Gove s now classic introduction to
Webster s Third [which] outlines this type of Descriptivism s five basic edicts: 1 Language
changes constantly; 2 change is normal; 3 spoken language is the language; 4 correctness rests
upon usage; 5 All usage is relative. (Wallace 2005, 83). Wallace himself argues against most of
these edicts, proving himself to uphold his snootitude. Bryan A. Garner creates a list similar to that
of Gove s, while addressing the argument that learning grammar may seem like an exercise in
pedantry, which is a point argued by many descriptivists:
(1) Many if not most people grow up speaking a form of regional or social dialect. If you raise
your comfort level with grammar, you ll have more confidence that your speaking and writing won

challenging school can be for them. In taking the prerequisite courses, I discovered a love for

Obesity And The Infant Body Weight
Parents can calculate their children s percentile to see if the baby is growing well. Percentile is a
number that tells parents directly if their baby s body weight is in the normal by comparing the
baby s weight to other children in the same age group and the baby s weight history. 50th is the
midpoint, 75th indicates overweight while 25th means underweight. However, it is not a big
problem if a baby s percentile keeps being high or low. In other words, if the infant s body weight
fluctuates too much in a certain period of time, parents should be aware that something is wrong.
The amount of nutritionthat a baby takes in can be one of the causes for the dramatically change on
the infant s body weight. It could be too much, while also could be not enough. The outcomes of
nutritional deficiencies could be both short term and long term. Nutritional imbalance can cause
long term influences on a child s growth. The malnourished children s growth would be stunting,
which refers to the failure for the baby to grow to the regular height compared with the same age
group. Because of the insufficient nutrition that the baby took in during the growing process, bone
density would be lower than other children, which will further impact on the child s height when s
/he grown up. After that, when an infant s body weight is two standard deviations lower than the
standard weights, they are wasting. Personally, I think wasting can damage a child more than the

The Statistics Of Prevalence For Child Sex Abuse Essay
The statistics of prevalence for child sex abuse varies because of all the unique cases of child
sex abuse that is reported. Although, statistic show that one in three girls will be sexually abused
at one point in the United States and boys are one in seven to be sexually abused (Anderson,
2014). Children are not susceptible to crime as shown in the statistics because predators like
pedophiles have fetishes towards little boy or girls. One study found that 10% of children
experienced or came close to experiencing a form of sexual violence which would include rape,
sexual assault, or harassment (Anderson, 2014). The numbers shown in the statistics are higher
because of the unreported cases. 30% of cases involving child sex abuse are reported to the local
authorities and 73% to 87% of female adolescents who are abused sexually are not treated or
identified by by the community (Anderson, 2014). Child sex abuse is also costly because it costs
the United States an estimated $103 billion for the abuse and negligence (Anderson, 2014). On
another note, 80% of children who have been sexually abused have symptoms of PTSD (Anderson,
2014).
Prevention of child sex abuse has risen in recent years with various programs and policies that help
reduce the rate of children being abused. Sex offender registries was formed to notify the local
communities about a sex offender living near the families. The Jacob Wetterling Crimes Against

The Nature Of Self By Sri Ramana Maharshi
The Nature of Self
Introduction
The life of man today is characterized by millions of activities that almost steal attention of one
self. It is literally impossible for man to quietly life in a serene place that is very quiet and free
from distraction of any manner. If anybody needs such scenery, then such a person has to invest a
lot on it. Technology has invaded almost all the private areas of human beings. Phones are
everywhere and electromagnetic radiations are everywhere. Even the once thought private zones
like bathrooms and toilets are being invaded by water proof podcasts and Iphones. It is because of
these kinds of distractions and the likes that the concept of nature of self becomes of importance.
The nature of self is an ideology, which is embedded on religious believes in Asia. Sri Ramana
Maharshi tried to explain the concept on different facets. The reason behind the multi facet nature
of the concept is because it tries to explain human behavior, which is very dynamic. The quest to
understand humanity propels this concept to a reality and makes it have diverse versions from
different people. Through the lens of subjects and objects in the greater universe, man tries to
explain himself and find peace with the environment. This is irrespective of whether an atheist or
theist. Nature of self not only concentrates on the explanation of the out going nature of the human

The Link Between Nazi Propaganda And The Holocaust Essay
Hitler believed that propaganda from the allies was the main reason that the Germans lost
during World War I and felt that this form of warfare needed to be a primary tool in modern
warfare. He spoke of this belief in his book Mein Kampf well before the start of the second World
War. Hitler felt that the public needed to be inundated with the ideology of the state at all times
and through all mediums (Jowett and O Donnell 2). To do this, he said everything from child s
story book to the last newspaper, every theater, every cinema and every advertisement must be

The Nazi s did use propaganda in this negative sense but in an underhanded and subversive way.
They backed up all their false reports with scientific studies and claims of a better human race.
Propaganda is hard to define as most definitions do not cover the full meaning of the word. The
Webster s Illustrated Encyclopedic Dictionary defines propaganda as the systematic propagation
or discrediting of a given doctrine or cause by circulation of polemical material, such as posters
and leaflets (1353). However, this definition does not cover the full scope of the of the word.
Terence Qualter also feels the definition for propaganda needs to be more refined for its new usage.
The definition that he gives is the deliberate attempt...(to) form, control, or alter the attitudes of
other groups...(with) the use of the instruments of communication (27 28). He goes on to say that
the propaganda must be aimed at the group in general because that is the basic nature of the word,
in that the most effective propaganda is the propaganda which has a large audience. Qualter does
mention, however, that there need be no difference in the propaganda to persuade one and the
propaganda to persuade the many (28). Germany did this by controlling the flow of information into
the country.

African Racism In Pan Africanism In The 19th Century
Pan Africanism was a philosophical, economic and sociocultural call for unity between Africans
and the diaspora that gained popularity in the 19th century. The aim of the movement was to resist
physical and symbolic domination exerted by capitalist powers and overturn the social hierarchies
established by the forces of slavery, racism, and colonialism in Africa and abroad. The idea behind
including the African diaspora in Pan Africanist efforts is due not only to the common history that
connects them but to a common plight rooted in the same racism experienced by Africans and
people of African descent. United, African Nations would have the socio political and economic
strength to compete on the world stage and the power to redefine the narratives illustrating

and almost opposing, in their methods but similar in their belief in the need for African solidarity in
order to reassert African pride and humanity from neo colonial subjugation. Pan Africanism gained
institutional legitimacy with the founding of the African Association in London and the
international attention gained by the various congresses that called for multinational participation,

The Wasps Analysis
The Wasps is a satirical comedy written in 422 BCE by Aristophanes as the Peloponnesian War was
coming to an end. The playwright s purpose for writing this is to mock the Athenian society at the
time. Because Athens also became a democracy during the 5th century, this comedy is particularly
controversial since during the time it was written, the courts were being severely manipulated and
corrupted by Cleon. In addition to this, there various other conflicts that take place during the time
that this was written. The plot centers around the protagonist Philocleon and his antagonist
Misocleon and uses the popular Athenian democratic ideology to point out its very own flaws. The
playwright criticizes both the judicial conflicts, which is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In relation to the metaphor of wasps, the text refers to the house as being netted. It seems that
there is only one door in the home giving it a sense of a dungeon like dwelling. Misocleon sleeps
on the roof and is presumably guarding it in the instance that his father tries to escape from there
rather than the door he is aware of being blocked off. The well intentioned Misocleon, tries to
deter his father from his usual routine of going to the courts to sit on the jury for less than a
livable wage. Although his plan is doomed to fail, he still attempts to save his father from his job
as a wage slave who has unknowingly pledged his allegiance to Cleon, the demagogue. Although
Philocleon does escape from his son s poorly thought out trap, Misocleon does not accept defeat
but rather attempts to reason with his father. The father s willingness to at least debate the issue
shows that he is a fair man and is willing to hear what others have to say. Based on their discussion,
the reader can see an obvious gap in generational understanding of the litigious Athenian democracy
. Philocleon is illusioned by his petty wages and is obsessed with the praise of others and the
benefit that come along with his position such as the affection of his own daughter (600 5).

Social Relations And Gender Roles
Every one of us have been influenced in one way or another by social relations to gender roles. All
human cultures have various expectations regarding the male or female gender. There are many
standards that dictate how individuals should dress, think, behave, and interact with the world

inequalitythat becomes problematic. Humans, as a society, crafted their own definitions of what it

women are still having this fight for equal pay. Equal pay means economic growth for the

Arguments Against Young Earth Creationism
Creationism View
When one is discovering a personal worldview, it is important to learn about how that perspective
looks for the beginning of time and the end of time. As a Christian, it is especially important to
understand what stance one should take on creationism. Looking at Genesis 1 2, one can see why
there is much controversy amongst the Christian community because there are several different
ways one can interpret these chapters. For example, some people believe the world was created in
six 24 hour days and these individuals are known as Young EarthCreationists. While others know
as Old Earth Creationists, believe that the earth was created over a longer period of time. Overall,
the main debate for the point of view on creationism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On this day, God planted the seeds into the world making His garden. Someone who believes in
Young Earth Creationism would believe that God sped up the process so everything would be
completed within 24 hours. According to Genesis 1:12 it says, the land produced vegetation:
plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to
their kinds. And God saw that it was good. (NIV). This scripture states that the land produced
vegetation which means that God did not speed up the process of making the vegetation grow
faster. Instead God let the earth do the work of growing. Going on with the argument against
Young Earth Creationism would be to look at the scriptures in Genesis 1:24 31 and Genesis 2:7
8. Here it talks about the sixth day of creation, on this day animals were created, Adam, and God
planted the Garden of Eden. Genesis 2:15 states that all the cattle, the birds of the sky, and every
beast in the field to Adam to name. God put Adam to sleep, took a piece from this side and
formed Eve. Adam exclaimed, Now at length (NIV). At length means now at last, indicating that
it has been a long period of time that Adam had gone without Eve. As humans we desire
connections with other human beings and we desire love. For Adam to become lonely within
just a few hours would not seem plausible. If we consider a day in time through the Old Earth
Creationism perspective; a single day relates to a thousand years, then it would seem more
plausible that Adam grew lonely during this period. Also, back in the Garden of Eden there were
over ten thousand animals. For Adam to name every single one of them in only a few short hours
would not make sense. (Old Earth

Flexible Organization Essay
A proper flexible organization provides its work force arrangements where employees are given
greater freedom to balance their work and personal commitments such as family, higher education,
community activities, religious commitments, professional development, and general interests.
Above is Atkinson s model of a flexible firm. He argued that firms increasingly seek 4 kinds of
flexibility functional, numerical, pay, distancing.
Functional flexibility is a qualitative approach to work, and refers to management s ability to
deploy and redeploy particular sections of the workforce on a wide range of tasks in response to
market demand as and when required (Sparrow 1998 cited in Teicher Holland 2006 p. 241 242). To

2002 cited in Teicher Holland 2006 p. 242), facilitates the reduction of the core or permanent
workforce
Financial flexibility is a compensation system designed to facilitate the development of
numerical and functional flexibility. It provides the duality of allowing market forces to dictate
relative wage rates for the external workforce and provides the incentive for the core workforce to
increase its skill base by relating pay to skill levels (Teicher Holland 2006, p. 242)
The incorporation work time flexibility or internal numerical flexibility provides the organization
with the flexibility to arrange and adjust work patterns and leads to a closer correlation between
labour utilization and production demands without financial penalty or the additional costs of
hiring labour (Felstead Jewson 1999; Ozaki 1999 cited in Teicher Holland 2006 p. 242)
The use of flexibility in the business centers on securing lower labour costs, tighter manning levels,
higher machine utilization, greater staff mobility and few interruptions and bottlenecks in
production (Blyton 1992, p.301 cited in Sheridan, Conway 2001 pp. 8)
Flexible work environments also improve employee retention. With the pool of talent in markets
becoming smaller as well as companies getting more and more competitive, many current and
potential job candidates rather work for a company

Thomas Hardy s The Darkling Thrush And The Lost Baby Poem
Imagine a time when you or someone you know has gone through loss; how alone that feeling
was. Yet, the hardship it brought did not last forever. There was always something that made life
worth living again. Life is filled with sad endings and bright, new beginnings. It is an inevitable
cycle that everyone can relate to on some level. Whether it is the ending of a life or the end of a
century, both Lucille Clifton and Thomas Hardyprove that endings can be difficult, yet there is
some form of hope within each of their poems. Hardy s The Darkling Thrushand Clifton s The Lost
Baby Poem have different styles due to the poets vastly different backgrounds, yet both poems
posses a similar somber tone throughout, with a glimmer of positivity by the end of each. Lucille
Clifton and Thomas Hardy have vastly different writing styles, which could be attributed to their
dissimilar backgrounds. Clifton, a 20th century African American poet, wrote short yet powerful
poetry, and her use of lowercase type in a large portion of her works makes her tone come off as
understanding to the average reader. Another interpretation of her use of lowercase type in The
Lost Baby Poem specifically, is the idea that Clifton was ashamed of herself and therefor did not
feel worthy of writing in a distinguished manner. My interpretation of her lack of punctuation makes
her tone seem dismal and depressed. Hardy, who comes from English descent, lived through lots of
turmoil, including WWI, and his

Leadership In Julius Caesar
What does leadership mean to someone? For most, it s how someone can make an impact. There
are many important aspects of being a leader. The power of a great leader starts with the right
mindset and willingness to accomplish what needs to be accomplished. One that is always a
couple steps ahead and is there to look out for others. In William Shakespeare s famous play, Julius
Caesar, few characters happen to have to right amount of potential to become a leader of Rome.
With the death of the ruler Julius Caesar, two counter viewing characters gave a speech about
Caesar which caused different reactions. One character in particular, Mark Antony, sticks out due to
his great use of language and how he created an impact on Rome s people. Marcus Brutus on the
other hand, also attempted to influence the people, but his inability to be more persuasive than
Antony is what caused him to receive the more negative feedback. Brutus indeed spoke
logically, but Antony would happen to make a better candidate as a leader because he spoke to
the emotions of the people and knew what was right. Mark Antony qualifies as a superior leader
because of his ability to connect with the people and by proving his loyalty. He is a solemn,
confident, and persuasive man which are key reasons why he would make an outstanding ruler.
In Julius Caesar, his confidence often shows. The threefold world divided, he should stand
/ One of the three to share it, (IV.i.14 15). Antony questioned whether or not Lepidus would be
fitting to rule a third of the world. Antony would take one half, Octavius the other half and they
would rule because he believed Lepidus was not capable. Antony s confidence shows his
capability of being a leader. Relating back to the speech given at Caesar s funeral, Brutus gave a
logical speech compared to Antony s persuasiveness which made the people have a different
feedback and overall different impact on who they believed was more trustworthy. Along with
Antony s confidence, his nobility towards others would have made him a great leader. His
nobility was for Julius Caesar especially, who he was very close to. When Caesar died, Antony
wanted revenge because of the unjust way he was murdered. Cry Havoc! and let slip the

The Influence of the Western Culture on the
Introduction
Culture is a broad term which has been described by various philosophers since decades. It has
been claimed by Raymond Williams to be ...one of the two or three most complicated words in
English language (Williams, 1976). Different definitions of the term, culture may have distinct
descriptive ways and criterion to evaluate human activity. It is important to define the broad base of
the sophisticated term culture , in the sense used later in the paper, to narrow down the discussion
on our topic.
Culture is a word stemming from a Latin word cultura which means to cultivate (Harper, 2008). It
is defined by Findley and Rothney as, systems of symbols and meanings that even their creator
contest, which lack fixed boundaries, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the same time Globalization allows different cultures to combine and integrate through having
common social activists, labor organizers, journalists, academics and many others (Sundaram,
2006). Music, theater and the film industry has also been broadly influenced by the increased
globalization.
Music has been a center stone of the sub continental background. It has been traditionaly been
based on the simple melodies and is regarded as one of the most well developed systems of the
classical world. The classical beats of the conventional music provide the true cultural and the
traditional taste to the sub continental music. Later in the 13th Centruy the sub continental music
remained under the influence of the Islamic presence. There is a faction who believes that the
classic sub continental traditional music dates back to Amir Khusro, one of the singers in the
Mughal Empire. The remarkable poetry by some famous poets brought the traditional music to
new hieghts. However the first influence of the sub continental music of such kind was widely
evident in the 1960 s when it found its way in the form of some extra ordinary play of the sitar (a
voiln type instrument) by Ravi Shankar on the famous Beatles album, Sgt. Pepper s Lonely Hearts
Club Band. The sub continental music made its way into the west with the well known players
such as Ravi Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan. This was the first time

Speech On Birds Of Peril
Birds of Peril
11 species of animals have gone extinct over the past two centuries. To many people, this statement
won t shock them. They will just see it as a statistic. Many others though; would want to do
something to stop this from happening. Natural disasters, their homes are taken, they are hunted,
there are many factors as to why these animals disappear, but people are the number one cause as
to why animals decline so rapidly in numbers.
I know there are people who don t give a rip about animals, and there are some that are in between,
and others that absolutely love animals. The problem here is the people that do not like animals at
all. Trees are cut down, pollution thrown wherever, and not even once do they think about the
animals that occupy these essentials. They do not think about the river that the animals need to
drink out of. They do not think of the birds that live in the trees, or other animals that look to them
as a food source.
The thing is, these animals know when their habitat isn t suitable to live in. These birds called
raptors which means carry away in Latin; know when their habitat isn t suitable, which then gives a
sign to other animals to find another place. These birds of prey are in constant threat of being killed,
whether it be by pollution, their homes being taken away or they are shot down in fear of them
killing the farm animals farm owners provide. (animals.mom.me) Raptors are most commonly
killed for fear of the farmer s livestock.

Parks and Recreation Districts
GENERAL PARKS AND RECREATION DISTRICTS
The use of special districts to administer parks and recreation services originates from a
successful experiment by New York City in SSSS. The city created a commission to depoliticize
the provision of parks and recreation services, which led to the development of Central Park.
Following this model of success, a number of states now have some form of park district that span a
range of services, including open space protection, land conservation, environmental education,
and leisure activities. Local governments increasingly offload parks and recreation
responsibilities to special districts because they require large capital investments and they benefit
from district boundaries drawn according to public use. The impact of tax limitations and
pressure on general funds also encourages development of park districts. Flickinger and Murphy
() provide insight from a park director in Illinois who believes special taxing status is essential
because park and recreation departments tend to take a back seat to streets, police, fire, utilities,
and other mandatory services when time came to set or cut budgets and hire qualified personnel
(1990, p. 153).Though parks and recreation are a common form of district, research evaluating its
success is limited in both quantity and scope.
The vast majority of research on parks and recreation districts is concentrated in the Midwest where
they are most prevalent. The Illinois Park and Recreation

Common Themes Of Dystopian Literature
Dystopian literature is normally about a setting that mirrors a Utopian society. Although it is far
from perfect, society is made to pretend as if it is one. In a state/county or another form of land
is where a Dystonia can take place. Dystopian landforms are usually trapped in from the outside
world. The people there believe that the outside world is a much worse place than where they
are, but there is always one or more people that believe otherwise. A leader or leaders are
controlling the people or using them for their own amusement. An example of this would be
President Snow in the hunger games. Snow uses the people of different districts for an annual fight
to the death. Of course, this is when one of the districts believe this is wrong,

The price of a slave was thirty shekels (Exod 21:32 if the ox gores a male or female slave, the owner shall pay to the slave owner thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned ), it is possible to infer that Hosea paid thirty shekels to a person (possibly the paramour) to whom Gomer, in her ramshackle state, had sold herself. Whatever the exact details, it is evident that Hosea is making an attempt at restoring his relationship with Gomer on the basis of some kind of payment. This level of understanding, though not very precise, is sufficient for reconstructing the symbolic import of the event for the relationship between Yahweh and Israel and more pertinent for this thesis, the relationship between Hosea and Gomer. Having executed God s command in Hosea 3:2, in 3:3 we encounter Hosea s directive to Gomer. This is very closely connected to the section dealing with the execution of the Divine command since a successful execution of Yahweh s command would logically demand Hosea s instruction to his wife.Hosea3:3 can therefore be divided into four different parts as demonstrated below: And I said to her, You must remain as mine for many days; you shall not play the whore, you shall not have intercourse with a man, nor I with ... The Benefits Of Organic Food And Organic Foods As consumers, we see the label organic in most supermarkets that we shop at every day, but do we know what makes certain food items obtain the label organic? There is much controversy on the topic organic foods and for good reason. There are many factors to take into account when decided if organic food is superior to conventionally grown foods. There are key components that all amount to how nutritious your food is. It all comes down to the quality of the land that the food is grown on, the farming technique, the elimination of toxic chemicals, and the increase in certain beneficial vitamins. The only downside to being pro organic foodis the slightly increased price tag. Despite the increased cost, organic foods are a healthier choice compared to conventional chemical ridden foods. In the United States, organic food has become so popular people don t have to grow their own food or even find a farmers market to be able to obtain organic food. You can typically find it in supermarkets everywhere. Organic farming has been around for quite some time; it first became popular during the 1940s. During his maturity, Japan was undergoing changes that lead to impending dangers. The years of the Meiji Restoration in 1868 changed from feudal system of the Edo period to a compulsory system of equal education and enlistment to the army. Japan underwent intense reforms that changed its social, political, and economic aspects. The reforms shook the foundations of the dying regime and gave birth to a new society. Use of Competitive Radioligand Binding to examine Endothelin Receptor Populations on Ventricular Cardiomyocyte Membranes of Spontaneous Hypertensive Rats. Abstract This investigation concerned the relationship between endothelin receptor populations on the ventricular cardiomyocyte membrane of spontaneous hypertensive rats at 16 weeks old. The use of radioligand competitive binding assay method, involving the displacement of [125I]ET 1 by 3 competitive, cold ligands, ET 1, ET 3 and BQ123, allowed for the generation of competition binding curves, that adopted either a one site or two site model and allowed the determination of relative IC50s and identification of receptor proportions. ET 3 produced a two site model suggesting the existence of ET A and ET B receptors on cardiomyocyte membranes in SHRs and calculated that around 29% of receptors were ET B, whereas ET 1 and BQ123 both produced one site models. Introduction Endothelin peptide family is a group of 3 isoforms of a peptide, comprising of 21 amino acids, all of which are formed from the same larger precursor, pro endothelin 1 by endothelin converting enzyme. • 18. Athenian Democracy In Athens The Athens law that allows every single man of Athens to share and glorifies their superiority over their peer poleis. In reality, the Democracy in Athens are made of Three Branches. The Assembly (Ekklesia) states that all male citizens over 18 met ten times a year and can make executive decisions like declaring war and create laws. The Assembly contradicts Periclesspeech since it only allow white males (not slaves) to create laws and make executive decisions. The Council of 500 (Boule) contradicts Pericles by declaring that the executive committee for the Assembly are served a one year, non renewable term and they administered the treasury and foreign affairs. This may not be fair since the executive committee members are vetoed or chosen to stay longer period of times because of their skill or good decision making, but rather more on males are chosen and they serve one year max not depending on their performance . Pericles had stated that the Athens democracy allowed the equal justice to all under the Athens law that allows every single man of Athens to share and glorifies their superiority over their peer poleis. In addition, The Courts (Dikasteria of Heliaia) allowed between 200 1,000 citizens who were randomly selected to represent the voice of the people in trials no appeals! Served a one year, non renewable term. Pericles sees Athens as best conducive to freedom, liberty, courage, honor, and justice the values most honored by the Athenians. This is contradiction because The Courts doesn t appoint male citizens because of their good sense and intellect, but rather because they are male and they couldn t be promoted any further (just a year). These above evidence proved that Pericles views democracy as the best form of government are not reliable. He preached that he viewed Athens as superior to their fellow city states. In fact, Pericles sees Athens as having the ultimate possible for freedom, liberty, courage, honor, and justice. The accommodations in Negril, Jamaica were remarkable. Negril, Jamaica is the second location outside of the United States I vacationed. The resort I stayed in was a five star all inclusive adult only resort named Swept Away. The accommodations in Swept Away were astonishing. I stayed in a bungalow. The bungalows are separate from the main resort rooms. The bungalow stood on the beach near the shoreline. The room was enormous. In it there was a queen size bed made of wood and two lounge chairs. The bedding was bright white linen and the cushions on the lounge chairs were made of the identical bright white linen. A large white mosquito net was draped around the bed. The white bedding, cushions and mosquito net gave the room a pleasant, tranquil and dreamy ambiance. Also, there was a balcony adjacent to the room. The balcony contained a white linen sofa and two end tables made of wood. The view from the balcony was of the picturesque blue ocean and the beach. The beaches in Negril, Jamaica were light brown almost beige colored sand. The sand felt like soft miniature pebbles between your toes when stepped on. Majority of the time, mellow calypso or reggae music could be heard originating from unknown locations on the beach. Which almost seemed magical. Adding to magical atmosphere the beach appeared to disappear right into the clear blue ocean. When standing on the beach and looking out towards the ocean, the ocean seemed to go on forever with never ending blue water. Also, on the beach at midday the smells of Caribbean cuisine lingered in the air. The cuisine is marvelous in Negril. It also, became a comfortable place for Solomon to go when he had a panic attack. This shows his creativity because he found a functional and fun way to help him cope with his panic attacks. The Relationship Between Trauma And Addiction Essay The Relationship Between Trauma and Addiction The experience of trauma can bring about feelings that are difficult for anyone else to understand. The feelings become even more complicated with addiction. It is important for practitioners to first understand the relationship of trauma and addiction to one another. Once the relationship is better understood, connections can be made to possible treatments and why those treatments should be used. As a Christian, it is especially important to understand what stance one should take on creationism. Looking at Genesis 1 2, one can see why there is much controversy amongst the Christian community because there are several different ways one can interpret these chapters. For example, some people believe the world was created in six 24 hour days and these individuals are known as Young EarthCreationists. And God saw that it was good. (NIV). This scripture states that the land produced vegetation which means that God did not speed up the process of making the vegetation grow faster. Instead God let the earth do the work of growing. Going on with the argument against Young Earth Creationism would be to look at the scriptures in Genesis 1:24 31 and Genesis 2:7 8. Here it talks about the sixth day of creation, on this day animals were created, Adam, and God planted the Garden of Eden. Genesis 2:15 states that all the cattle, the birds of the sky, and every beast in the field to Adam to name. God put Adam to sleep, took a piece from this side and formed Eve. Adam exclaimed, Now at length (NIV). At length means now at last, indicating that it has been a long period of time that Adam had gone without Eve. As humans we desire connections with other human beings and we desire love. For Adam to become lonely within just a few hours would not seem plausible. If we consider a day in time through the Old Earth Creationism perspective; a single day relates to a thousand years, then it would seem more plausible that Adam grew lonely during this period. Also, back in the Garden of Eden there were over ten thousand animals. For Adam to name every single one of them in only a few short hours would not make sense. (Old Earth ... • 42. Thomas Hardy s The Darkling Thrush And The Lost Baby Poem Imagine a time when you or someone you know has gone through loss; how alone that feeling was. Yet, the hardship it brought did not last forever. There was always something that made life worth living again. Life is filled with sad endings and bright, new beginnings. It is an inevitable cycle that everyone can relate to on some level. Whether it is the ending of a life or the end of a century, both Lucille Clifton and Thomas Hardyprove that endings can be difficult, yet there is some form of hope within each of their poems. Hardy s The Darkling Thrushand Clifton s The Lost Baby Poem have different styles due to the poets vastly different backgrounds, yet both poems posses a similar somber tone throughout, with a glimmer of positivity by the end of each. Lucille Clifton and Thomas Hardy have vastly different writing styles, which could be attributed to their dissimilar backgrounds. Clifton, a 20th century African American poet, wrote short yet powerful poetry, and her use of lowercase type in a large portion of her works makes her tone come off as understanding to the average reader. Another interpretation of her use of lowercase type in The Lost Baby Poem specifically, is the idea that Clifton was ashamed of herself and therefor did not feel worthy of writing in a distinguished manner. My interpretation of her lack of punctuation makes her tone seem dismal and depressed. Hardy, who comes from English descent, lived through lots of turmoil, including WWI, and his ... • 43. Leadership In Julius Caesar What does leadership mean to someone? For most, it s how someone can make an impact. There are many important aspects of being a leader. The power of a great leader starts with the right mindset and willingness to accomplish what needs to be accomplished. One that is always a couple steps ahead and is there to look out for others. In William Shakespeare s famous play, Julius Caesar, few characters happen to have to right amount of potential to become a leader of Rome. With the death of the ruler Julius Caesar, two counter viewing characters gave a speech about Caesar which caused different reactions. One character in particular, Mark Antony, sticks out due to his great use of language and how he created an impact on Rome s people. Marcus Brutus on the other hand, also attempted to influence the people, but his inability to be more persuasive than Antony is what caused him to receive the more negative feedback. Brutus indeed spoke logically, but Antony would happen to make a better candidate as a leader because he spoke to the emotions of the people and knew what was right. Mark Antony qualifies as a superior leader because of his ability to connect with the people and by proving his loyalty. He is a solemn, confident, and persuasive man which are key reasons why he would make an outstanding ruler. In Julius Caesar, his confidence often shows. The threefold world divided, he should stand / One of the three to share it, (IV.i.14 15). Antony questioned whether or not Lepidus would be fitting to rule a third of the world. Antony would take one half, Octavius the other half and they would rule because he believed Lepidus was not capable. Antony s confidence shows his capability of being a leader. Relating back to the speech given at Caesar s funeral, Brutus gave a logical speech compared to Antony s persuasiveness which made the people have a different feedback and overall different impact on who they believed was more trustworthy. Along with Antony s confidence, his nobility towards others would have made him a great leader. His nobility was for Julius Caesar especially, who he was very close to. When Caesar died, Antony wanted revenge because of the unjust way he was murdered. Cry Havoc! and let slip the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Influence of the Western Culture on the Introduction Culture is a broad term which has been described by various philosophers since decades. It has been claimed by Raymond Williams to be ...one of the two or three most complicated words in English language (Williams, 1976). Different definitions of the term, culture may have distinct descriptive ways and criterion to evaluate human activity. It is important to define the broad base of the sophisticated term culture , in the sense used later in the paper, to narrow down the discussion on our topic. Culture is a word stemming from a Latin word cultura which means to cultivate (Harper, 2008). It is defined by Findley and Rothney as, systems of symbols and meanings that even their creator contest, which lack fixed boundaries, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the same time Globalization allows different cultures to combine and integrate through having common social activists, labor organizers, journalists, academics and many others (Sundaram, 2006). Music, theater and the film industry has also been broadly influenced by the increased globalization. Music has been a center stone of the sub continental background. It has been traditionaly been based on the simple melodies and is regarded as one of the most well developed systems of the classical world. The classical beats of the conventional music provide the true cultural and the traditional taste to the sub continental music. Later in the 13th Centruy the sub continental music remained under the influence of the Islamic presence. There is a faction who believes that the classic sub continental traditional music dates back to Amir Khusro, one of the singers in the Mughal Empire. The remarkable poetry by some famous poets brought the traditional music to new hieghts. However the first influence of the sub continental music of such kind was widely evident in the 1960 s when it found its way in the form of some extra ordinary play of the sitar (a voiln type instrument) by Ravi Shankar on the famous Beatles album, Sgt. Pepper s Lonely Hearts Club Band. The sub continental music made its way into the west with the well known players such as Ravi Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan. This was the first time ... • 45. Speech On Birds Of Peril Birds of Peril 11 species of animals have gone extinct over the past two centuries. To many people, this statement won t shock them. They will just see it as a statistic. Many others though; would want to do something to stop this from happening. Natural disasters, their homes are taken, they are hunted, there are many factors as to why these animals disappear, but people are the number one cause as to why animals decline so rapidly in numbers. I know there are people who don t give a rip about animals, and there are some that are in between, and others that absolutely love animals. The problem here is the people that do not like animals at all. Trees are cut down, pollution thrown wherever, and not even once do they think about the animals that occupy these essentials. They do not think about the river that the animals need to drink out of. They do not think of the birds that live in the trees, or other animals that look to them as a food source. The thing is, these animals know when their habitat isn t suitable to live in. These birds called raptors which means carry away in Latin; know when their habitat isn t suitable, which then gives a sign to other animals to find another place. These birds of prey are in constant threat of being killed, whether it be by pollution, their homes being taken away or they are shot down in fear of them killing the farm animals farm owners provide. (animals.mom.me) Raptors are most commonly killed for fear of the farmer s livestock. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Parks and Recreation Districts GENERAL PARKS AND RECREATION DISTRICTS The use of special districts to administer parks and recreation services originates from a successful experiment by New York City in SSSS. The city created a commission to depoliticize the provision of parks and recreation services, which led to the development of Central Park. Following this model of success, a number of states now have some form of park district that span a range of services, including open space protection, land conservation, environmental education, and leisure activities. Local governments increasingly offload parks and recreation responsibilities to special districts because they require large capital investments and they benefit from district boundaries drawn according to public use. The impact of tax limitations and pressure on general funds also encourages development of park districts. Flickinger and Murphy () provide insight from a park director in Illinois who believes special taxing status is essential because park and recreation departments tend to take a back seat to streets, police, fire, utilities, and other mandatory services when time came to set or cut budgets and hire qualified personnel (1990, p. 153).Though parks and recreation are a common form of district, research evaluating its success is limited in both quantity and scope. The vast majority of research on parks and recreation districts is concentrated in the Midwest where they are most prevalent. The Illinois Park and Recreation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Common Themes Of Dystopian Literature Dystopian literature is normally about a setting that mirrors a Utopian society. Although it is far from perfect, society is made to pretend as if it is one. In a state/county or another form of land is where a Dystonia can take place. Dystopian landforms are usually trapped in from the outside world. The people there believe that the outside world is a much worse place than where they are, but there is always one or more people that believe otherwise. A leader or leaders are controlling the people or using them for their own amusement. An example of this would be President Snow in the hunger games. Snow uses the people of different districts for an annual fight to the death. Of course, this is when one of the districts believe this is wrong, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
