Essay about Physics Cantilever Lab
Independent Assessment Physics Lab (SL): Cantilever Flexion
Cherno Okafor
Mr. Ebrahimi
SPH4U7
October 21st, 2012
Introduction
Purpose: The purpose of this Physics Lab is to investigate what factors determine the amount of
flexion of the cantilever. Hence, the objective is to establish a relationship between the length of a
cantilever, which may give some insight into the physics of cantilevers.
Hypothesis: If one increases the length of a cantilever, one would expect there to be an increase in
deflection/flexion of the cantilever. Similarly, if one increases the massof the load, one would
expect there to be an increase in the deflexion/flexion of the cantilever. In addition, I predict that
proportionality will also occur ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
* Dependent Variable: The deflection/flexion of the cantilever in metres. This will be measured
indirectly by measuring the initial height of the bottom of the cantilever with no mass added (which
is equal to the height of the table) and the new height of the bottom of the cantilever after each
trial, which will be measured with mass added. Hence, the difference between these heights is
equal to the deflection/flexion of the cantilever. The material and other physical properties of the
cantilever will be controlled by using the same yardstick as a cantilever for each trial.
Data Collection and Processing
My experiment is divided into two parts; experiment A (involving the relationship between flexion
and the mass of the load) and experiment B (involving the relationship between the flexion and the
length of the cantilever).
Below are two tables in which I have recorded the data which I obtained during the experiment. The
first table reflects the Relationship between the deflection/flexion of the cantilever and the mass of
the load and the second table reflects the relationship between the flexion of the cantilever and the
length of the cantilever.

Susan Glaspell’s Trifles Essay
The first reading I enjoyed was Susan Glaspell s Trifles . The main character in the plat is a
sheriff, his wife, the county attorney, and Mr. and Mrs. Hale. The opening scene is all of them in
John Wright s kitchen. Mr. Hale tells the sheriff and attorney how he a visited the house on the
day before day and Mrs. Wright greeted him but her demeanor was little suspicions. She told him
that her husband was upstairs dead. She says she was asleep when someone choked her husband to
death. All the men suspect she is the murderer. While the men look for evidence in the house they
criticize Mrs. Wright s housekeeping skills and that really irritates Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peter, the
sheriff s wife. While the men continue to look around the house,... Show more content on

type of men. Yank, is the know it alls woker. When Yank speaks the men listens. Yank is a proud
man. Paddy was the eldest of the men. He felt work life onboard the Ocean Liner was a piece of
cake compared to his work onboard a Clipper Ship. Mildred, a wealth passenger volunteered with
Manhattan s Lower East Side s less fortunate and was on her way to do volunteer services in
Europe. Mildred s Aunt believed Mildred s service to the less fortunate is slumming and does
not understand why she has to do it in another country. She takes a tour of the ships and walks
into the men work area. She walks in on one of Yank s rants. Disgusted by Yank s appearance
and behavior she mumbles that he was a filthy beast. Paddy told Yank Mildred looked at him like
he was a big hairy ape. That angered Yank. Yank ends up getting arrested because he makes a
Gentleman in Manhattan miss his bus. While Yank is imprisoned on Blackwell s Island he finds
out that Mildred s father built both the physical and metaphorical cage that had him trapped. His
fellow prisoner tells him he should join the Wobblies or the Industrial Workers of the World. In
Scene Seven, Yank visits the local I.W.W. but they kicked him out because the Secretary thought he
was a government spy. In the eighth scene, Yank tried to become friends with an ape.

China And Japan s Influence On The Western Civilization
China and Japan had similar but different experiences with the Western civilization. China and
Japan reacted differently to the Western nations and it was China s reactions to the West that would
break the Chinese s isolation leaving their traditions behind. The Industrial trade in Europe and the
United States had created a gap between Asia and the West, This left china and Japan far behind
technologically and they were not able to stand up against the western nations and although at
different times China and Japan both ended up having to sign unequal treaties, and to open their
ports for merchants.
China experiences the pressure of the imperialist s military which China did not have the
knowledge or the experience to match. China went from a superior leader, self sufficient country,
that thought that everyone else were barbarians to a torn country. China accepted foreign trade, but
they wanted to control and limit how much and with who the trade was used for, they felt that they
European trade was unnecessary. They did not allow the western merchants to have any power or
privileges and restricted them to Canton, plus they refused to open their trade system beyond Co
Hong which caused china to not become as prosperous as Japan. (Valentini 2013) Because China
the believed that they were the center of civilization and that the Western culturewas inferior the
Chinese government refused to go along with any of the European s request and the two nations
became hostile towards

Should Welfare Subsidies Be Limited For Only The Social...

Mr. Williams
AP Government and Politics, Period 2
March 28, 2015
Should Welfare Subsidies be limited to only the Social Security System? Social programs for
aiding the needs of the U.S. population are called welfare subsidies. Federal social programs were
first proposed with Theodore Roosevelt s New Nationalism, and expanded during the Wilson,
Roosevelt, and Johnson Administrations. There are eighty three overlapping federal programs
which vary in eligibility requirements. They help provide food, shelter, healthcare, education and
money to American citizens. These services are provided through primary and secondary education,
subsidies of college education, pensions for eligible persons, subsidies for eligible low wage
workers, subsidies for housing, unemployment disability insurance, Supplemental Nutrition
Assistance Program benefits, subsidies for housing, and health insurance programs that cover
public employees. The largest and most prominent welfare subsidy is the Social Security Program
and the second largest is Medicare. Aside from Medicare and Social Security, Congress allocated
$717 billion to welfare subsidies in 2010. That same year, states allocated $210 billion. The total
allocations for Social Security and Medicare were $1.3 trillion in 2013, which was 37% of the
total Federal expenditure budget of $3.684 trillion. Aside from government welfare programs,
private welfare is about 1.6 trillion, about ten percent of the total US GDP. As part of the

How Is God (Allah) Described In These Passages
1) How is God (Allah) described in these passages? What Muslim religious practices do they reveal?
These passages from the Qur an described Allah as an indivisible merciful God who guides
Muslims. Allah was described as the compassionate Lord of the Worlds, who is the king of the day
of judgement. These few statements revealed that the monolithic religion of Islam believes there is
only one true God that rules over everything, not multiple. Another practice that is revealed, was
their belief that God will guide Muslims in their daily lives, so that, they would reach Allah in
heaven. Other Islamic practices that were revealed through the Qur an: believing in the unseen,
steadfast in prayer, and giving alms to the poor.
2) What is the fate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those who were unbelievers, God set a seal upon their hearts and ears, and dimmed their vision,
leading to grievous woeful life. God took their sick hearts and makes them sicker, punishing them
for their disbelief. This did appear to be contradictory, as Muslims and the Qur an heavily
emphasized God s compassion and mercy. In this case, God was not showing mercy to the
disbelievers, contradicting the Qur an s initial statements about their belief of who God was.
3) What does this selection say about religious violence? What about nonreligious violence?
The Qur an stated that God does not love aggressors. The Qur an stated that you should fight for
the sake of God against those that fight against you, but only if they attack first. Upon being
attacked, you should slay them where you find them and drive them out of the places from where
they drove you; fight against them until God s religion reigns supreme. For nonreligious violence,
the Qur an stated mankind has the right to guard himself against evil, but only if the means are just;
one should not devour one s property by unjust means or be the first to attack.
4) How does the Qur an describe Jews and Christians? How does this selection criticize their
beliefs? How is Islam connected to Judaism and

Plan For A Campaign The Right Consultant
To plan for a campaign the right consultant should be hired. The consultant will conduct a
feasibility study to ensure that the organization and prospective donors are ready for the campaign.
The feasibility study looks at all aspects of a campaign. The study will review the campaign
timeline and the plan for each phases of the campaign.
Once the campaign has received the results of the feasibility study the campaign leaders will need
to review the consultant s suggestions and review any newly acquired information that relates to
the campaign. A task force should be created to revise the campaign s goals, plans and case for

that the organization has been through in it s planning process for the campaign. It has been
decided that there will be three phases to the project. Different milestones will be tied to each phase
of this project.
The first phase will revolve around planning, the second phase will be connecting with donors and
introducing the project to them and around solicitation, the third phase will revolve the successful
completion of the campaign.
Phase 1 Planning Checklist: This phase will take place for over the course of 12 to 18 months
A seed fund is created three years before the campaign and the appropriate money is added to it

Russian Influence In America Essay
MACEDONIA COMMITTED TO JOINING NATO AND EU
BLUF: Russian influence has affected countries like Sweden and Macedonia to join NATO. It is
highly likely that Russia will continue to threaten any countries that ally with the U.S. and other
opposed opposition. As a result Russia will likely become more volatile and ramp attacks along
Ukraine and other neighboring countries.
SUMMARY: As of 26JUL17, Macedonia s defense minister reaffirmed her government s
commitment to joining the EU and NATO. EU leaders have declared their readiness to work with
the new government, however, Greece opposes Macedonia s desire to join NATO. While the U.S.

The Cult of Contemporary Celebrity Essay
Celebrity: (noun) 1. A well known person. 2. Fame, being famous.
No doubt every simian tribe of hunter gatherers had their local celebrities: the woman who gave
birth to quintuplets, the boy who swallowed a porcupine and survived, the man who wrestled with
a tyrannosaurus and... well, he probably would have died, but celebrity status would have been
applied posthumously.
If, however, the man wrestling with a Tyrannosaurus was a modern Hollywood celebrity, not only
would he have lived, he would have pocketed something like $20 million for his efforts, and earned
the adulation of several billion people.
The global celebration of modern celebrity is partly a product of our pre historic need for heroes. In
a world where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Information on celebrities is not only very popular with the general public, it also popular with
journalists. Interviewing a movie star requires almost no effort. The celebrity s publicist will
provide you with every significant and insignificant detail of the celebrity s life. All you have to do
is read this information, interview the subject, cut and paste what the celebrity says so the
interview has a coherent structure, and `bang, there is your thousand or two thousand word article.
Because of this modern media frenzy there are as many divisions of Hollywood celebrity as
there are bird species in the Amazon. As the dim witted, obtuse and lethargic stars of Big Brother
proved last summer you don t need any skills to become a celebrity these days, you just need to be
in the media. In Hollywood there are A listcommercial celebrities like Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise
and Julia Roberts. There are your B list celebrities like Ben Affleck, Kevin Kline and Uma
Thurman (they might not have to audition for parts, but nor can they expect a fee any higher than
a couple of million dollars.) There are struggling in the grave celebrities like Mickey Rourke,
reluctant celebrities like Kate Winslet, Lazarus celebrities like John Travolta, Art house celebrities
like Judy Davis, institutional celebrities like James Cann, BOB celebrities (Bottom of the Barrel)

The Handmaids Tale
Deisy Monterrozo English 101 S26487 Fall 2017 September 20, 2017 The Handmaids Tale
Margaret Atwood s novel, The Handmaid s Tale, is a future version of the United States.
Atwood introduces Offred as a handmaid in the Republic of Gilead. Handmaids are assigned to
bear children for couples who have trouble conceiving. Offred serves the commander and his
wife, Serena Joy. Offred s freedom is completely restricted. She can only leave the house on
shopping trips, the door of her room cannot be completely shut, and the Eyes, Gilead s secret
police force, watch her every public move. Offred tells the story of her daily life, frequently

Serena Joy, she used to be a powerful woman, but Galilea s government seems without freedom
or choice. She worked as a gospel singer and anti feminist activist and crusader for traditional
values in Pre Gilead times. After that, she used to give speeches as a television personality who
promoted an anti feminist about the sanctity of the home she was advocating the women return
to the home and submission to their husbands. Now, she s the commander s wife. Atwood makes
it obvious how unhappy she is in the current domestic situation, acting as a wife, she is broken
inside. This unhappiness derives from the restrictive and male dominated society. Gilead s
society cannot bring happiness even to its most powerful women. Only men have the freedom
of reading, and while he is in the room he opens the Bible and reads a verse that Serena Joy is
identified with, Give me children, or else I die. Am I in God s stead, who hath withheld from
thee the fruit of the womb? Behold my maid Bilhah. She shall bear fruit upon my knees, that I
may also have children by her. (88) This verse in the bible is talking about how she wants to bear
children. In Gilead, they make their people believe that if they cannot have children, then they
should die. If Serena could not bear children, she will be sent to the colonies to die. Atwood shows
us that Offred has not freedom of choice and she

The Nature Of Human Nature In George Eliot s Silas Marner
In George Eliot s Silas Marner there is no character who exemplifies the realism of human nature
more than Godfrey Cass. The very fabric of Godfrey s characterization begs for analysis.
Through Godfrey s actions, or lack of them, and the resulting consequences of his decisions,
Silas Marner becomes a novel that draws a discussion of what good naturedness means in
regards to action versus passivity. Godfrey s passivity is the driving force of the novel and in
true Eliot fashion, it is his passivity that makes him neither a victim, nor a villain, but puts him
somewhere in between. Put forth as a fine, open faced, good natured young man, Godfrey
immediately contrasts his brother Dunstan, a spiteful jeering fellow, who seemed to enjoy his
drink the more when other people went dry (Eliot 23). This automatically pits one against the
other simply put, as good versus bad. Dunstan mocks him for his nature, saying, I m so easy and
good natured. You ll take any trouble for me, essentially throwing Godfrey s most highly praised
virtue back in his face and further cementing their previous categorization (Eliot 25). Godfrey is
held in high esteem after this initial introduction. Furthermore, the condition of Godfrey Cass is
one of whom had felt the keen point of sorrow or remorse and whom thanks to their native human
kindness even riot could never drive into brutality (Eliot 29). According to his condition, Godfrey
has weathered the conditions that have caused him sorrow and remorse, rather than having caused
the conditions in the first place. This sets up Godfrey s rationalization behind his passivity, and
allows for the notion that simply possessing a good nature is a good enough excuse to leave his
decisions to chance. Consequently, after leaving such decisions to chance, the hesitating Godfrey
finds that his own downfall unequivocally rests on his own shoulders (Eliot 26). Godfrey s
hesitating and passive nature is more prevalent in none other than his denial of his infant daughter,
Eppie. With the introduction of his secret wife and child, Molly and Eppie respectively, Godfrey s
good naturedness takes its greatest hit. While Godfrey Cass was taking draughts of forgetfulness

Characteristics Of Chimpanzee
Throughout the world, there are multitudes of different species between the monkey and ape
families. Chimpanzees follow under the species of the great apes which consist of the common
chimpanzee; that most people are familiar with. The chimpanzee lives in the dense tropical
rainforest of Africa. With this is mind, chimpanzees have been made to have certain features that
allows them to survive effectively within their environment.
One of the essential features of chimpanzees is their size. A chimpanzeegenerally weighs around
70 130 lbs and reaches the height of 4 5.5ft. Along with their size, fur is also a critical feature for
them to have in order to thrive. Fur covers the top of its head, back, legs, and arms but does not
have fur on its face, palm of its hands, toes, feet, chest, and stomach area. It would not make sense
for a chimpanzee to have hair on their face because it would interfere with their sight. They don t
have hair on their palms, toes, feet, chest and stomach because they have thick, coarse fur
everywhere else which is able to keep their body temperature regulated. An equally important and
easily recognizable feature of a chimpanzee would be their opposable thumbs. In addition to this,
chimpanzee s make up of their bodies allows them to function in their environment. For instance,
chimpanzee jaws are heavy and protruding, and the canine teeth are large. Their spines are
constructed in a way where they can stand up similar to a human, but they also

Summary Of A Satire Against Reason And Mankind
A Satire against Reason and Mankind is a poem written by John Wilmot the Second Earl of
Rochester. Two things are argued against in this poem. First, mankind and its base nature that
causes men to exploit each other for seemingly no reason. Second, mankind s ability to reason
which causes them to compare themselves to God. However, at the end of the poem Rochester
offers a chance for himself to be proven wrong, but only if a just man can be found. This idea of a
just man is not Rochester believing mankind can improve, but rather it is him supporting his own
argument because he knows that this man does not exist. When this just man is described he
directly contrasts with humannature and shines a light on man s true baseness and shows... Show

Next, a scenario is offered to the reader to allow them to come to their own conclusion. The poem
states, Be judge yourself, I ll bring it to the test, Which is the basest creature, man or beast... Beasts
on each other prey, but savage man alone does betray... man undoes himself for no good... But man
with smiles, embraces, friendship, praise, Inhumanly his fellow s life betrays; with voluntary pain
distress, not through necessity but wantonness (2305). When animals prey on each other it is
justifiable because it is out of necessity for food, but there is no way to vindicate men for attacking
one another. Rochester then states that even men who are friends will voluntarily betray one
another without provocation. Next, Rochester s argument shifts from being directed towards men
themselves, but rather their ability to reason.
Rochester introduces a clergyman in poem to act as an adversary that argues for reason and
mankind. The clergyman states that he understands Rochester s argument but does not understand
his hatred for reason and mankind. The clergyman begins his defense of mankind and reason by
saying, Blest glorious man! To whom alone kind heaven and everlasting soul has been freely
given; Whom his creator took such care to make, That from himself he did the image take, And
this fair frame in shining reason dressed, To dignify his nature above the beast (2304). Biblical

Batek Gender Differences Essay
One of the biggest fieldwork observations made by the Endicotts is the gender differences between
males and females in the Batek community, or lack thereof. Batek people choose to live in a
noncompetitive gender egalitarian community, which acknowledges the gender differences
between males and females, but does not believe the differences give either sex superiority over its
complimentary counterpart(25). This equality is something that makes gendera topic that the Batek
rarely address and is seen as almost irrelevant. In fact, until Batek children begin to show the first
signs of puberty, boys and girls are only called children rather than little boys or girls. It is not until
these sign begin to develop that they make the distinction between young men and... Show more

In addition, the Batek believe that the only difference between men and women is their physical
appearance and ability, but that they essentially share the same internal composition. Externally,
aside from reproductive anatomy, the Batek say that men are the ones with stronger breath, as in
having a higher lung capacity. This makes them better equipped for blowpipe hunting and allows
them to hunt larger game in the forest. Moreover, men are said to have more upper body strength
than the women, which they use to climb taller trees and chop down large trees. However,
although the men have a higher physical ability than the women when it comes to blowpipe
hunting, the women also blowpipe hunt for smaller prey, climb smaller trees and vines, and cut
down small trees(29). Internally, the Batek believe that the only significant difference between the
men and women was the smell of their blood. They believe that a woman s blood had a different
smell from man because of the diet the women held to while on their menstrual

because, already Indian prisons are overcrowding so, if these people also kept in the prison then,
administration of the prison will suffer; these people may mingle with conventional criminals
which may be resulted in high recidivism. Before passing of this Act, President has promulgated an
ordinance which contained similar provisions.

Edward Owens Short Stories
A woman opens an old steamer trunk and discovers tantalizing clues that a long dead relative
may actually have been a serial killer, stalking the streets of New York in the closing years of the
nineteenth century. A beer enthusiast is presented by his neighbor with the original recipe for
Brown s Ale, salvaged decades before from the wreckage of the old brewery the very building
where the Star Spangled Banner was sewn in 1813. A student buys a sandwich called the Last
American Pirate and unearths the long forgotten tale of Edward Owens, who terrorized the
Chesapeake Bay in the 1870s. These stories have two things in common. They are all tailor made
for viral success on the internet. And they are all lies. Each tale was carefully fabricated... Show

Egg Drop Containerer
My egg drop container is based off of a rough interpretation of the Apollo 17. My container
demonstrates all the required topics of motion, energy and force. My egg drop container involves
thermal, sound and mechanical energy. The container has mechanical energy, because it has both
kinetic and potential energy. Prior to dropping the egg, the experiment has potential energy and as it
s drops, it has kinetic energy. The higher the drop point, the more potential and kinetic energy it has.
When the egg container strikes the ground, it produces sound energy that is produced by the
vibration of the object as it comes in contact with the ground causing a banging sound. There is also
thermal energy with friction against the air, which causes the container to heat up.... Show more

Safe Injection Sites Research Paper
Two experts are debating on a widespread question that is becoming more severe than ever. Drug
abuse and addiction is an issue spreading throughout the entire country with multiple pros and cons
arising; therefore, creating many opportunities for opinionated discussions. Dr. Brian Johnson
made distinct, appropriate points to negate the validity of safe injection sites are not a valid
response to the opioid epidemic. One point expressed in the pro/con portion is, [i]f a Ford Motor
truck causes expectable deaths because the truck is dangerous, Ford pays, not taxpayers. (Johnson).
This should not differ because the choices are being made consciously. The amount of deaths
caused by drugabuse is skyrocketing. Taxpayers should not be forced to help with this situation,
much like the taxpayers would not have to pay for a vehicle accident that they did not cause. The
company/provider should be the ones to take responsibility for their actions and decisions. A valid
response is not being forced to pay... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brian Johnson expressed his opinion of the issue at hand, [l]et s see the proposal for safe injection

(Johnson). This idea speaks more loudly than any other presented in the discussion. Safe injection
sites are not the right way to go about helping addiction. There are many flaws in this decision that
can affect the outcome of a patient. Agreeing to continue to provide the drugs to which they are
already addicted is nothing short of naive. This is just allowing the dealers to continue making
money on something that is illegal; it should be prohibited, not advertised.
Drug abuse and addiction is something that is still overlooked throughout the United States. This
issue is real and life threatening; it should be treated as so. Safe injection sites are not valid

Effects Of Classical Conditioning In A Bite Of China
Introduction
The psychology theory seems to be professional, and it is hard to use in daily lives in many
common people s views. However, some principles are used widely in TV shows or movies. For
example, classical conditioning can make people to perform a specific behavior after several times
training . In the essay, the author will introduce a TV show called A Bite of China and discuss how
the TV show use classical conditioning.
Background information
Classical Conditioning
Classical Conditioning was founded by a Russian physiologist, Ivan P. Pavlov, in the early 1900s.
At first, He assumed that animals have automatic connections called unconditioned reflexes, which
is a reflection between a fixed stimulus and response such as the food and secreting digestive juices.
He speculated that the stimulus can be transferred from one to another. After that, Pavlov did the
experiments and get the conclusion. In the process, he gave a dog food and the dog salivated. The
connection between the food and the salivation was automatic requiring no training. The food was
called unconditioned stimulus (UCS) and the salivation was called unconditioned response (UCR).
The UCS is an event that automatically elicits an UCR. In other words, the UCR is the action that
the UCS elicits. Next, Pavlov introduced a new stimulus, such as a metronome. At the beginning,
the dogs heard the metronome but did not salivate. In this period, the metronome was a neutral
stimulus (NS) about salivation. After

rise to political power of the Chinese Communist Party along with her husband. Madame Mao,
throughout her life, works hard to earn her status in society and, along with making a name for
herself, gaining rights and respect for all women. Through a series of transition, Madame Mao is

growing defiance of gender roles in Chinese society. Madame Mao earns her first name, Yunhe,
when she enrolls in a local elementary school. The name Yunhe, which means Crane in the Clouds

relationship deteriorates. The love Mao once had for Jiang Ching is replaced by the love for his

her marriage with Mao is power. As Kang Sheng says, Her role is to play Mao s most trusted

Ralph Waldo Emerson s Nature Analysis
Live in the sunshine. Swim in the sea. Drink the wild air Ralph Waldo Emerson. Emerson s quote
enlightens the idea of transcendentalism. Declaring to enjoy nature for what it is , to value the
idea of having the freedom of it and to realize there is more to life than what you are living. In the
essay, Nature , by Ralph Waldo Emerson he finds himself challenged by the honesty of nature,
which compares to Chris McCandless adventure in the book, Into the Wild, by Jon Krakauer. First,
one must enjoy things as how they come. Emerson explains this feat in his essay by shadowing
there is more than what meets the eye to nature. His purpose for thinking this is shown in this,

Proclaiming this, Krakauer means after one experiences something so great they learn and are
shaped by the change they had. As one goes on in life they change, just like Chris is when he
went to into the wild. As the book goes on it avers, The fullest sense of the word, an epic journey
would change everything (Krakauer22). Displaying that Krakauer is referring to McCandless
trip. How one thing could change someone so much. The honesty of nature shaped McCandless
as he was on this adventure. It showed him how good life can be. As one can tell Emerson s
essay and Krakauer s book shows how on is shaped by the honesty of nature. Emerson and
McCandless story are similar. They both feel like nature is a pure thing. Comparing the two,
when McCandless is living off the land and how both feel like one should use the land to its full
potential. Also, the two excerpts are similar for both explain that nature is something that is truly
aesthetic. As both stories set out to prove how one can overlook how extraordinary nature is. It
wasn t until McCandless set out into the wild that he candidly appreciated the outdoors. Nature
and Into the Wild both state that adults don t see nature in full. McCandless and Emerson realize
that there is copious more to nature as one grows older, but it s rarely recognized. As McCandless
takes his adventure into the wild, he realizes how superlative it is and how one

The Ambiguity Of Biological Toxins
Nelsen et al. (2014) presents and discusses what the authors believe to be the inconsistencies among
the definitions of poisons, venoms, and toxins, as well as the conflation, or mixing, of these terms
within the literature. The three primary classes of toxins, biological, anthropogenic, and
environmental, are defined and distinguished so that the authors can further discern the biological
toxins using their own classification scheme (Nelsen et al. 2014). Nelsen et al. (2014) presents the
necessity of their three class scheme, which they proposed due to the terminological inconsistencies
within and among the literature on biological toxins. I think implementing a new term to detract
from the misconstruction of existing toxicological definitions would be constructive, especially
with the proposed corresponding binomial classification system. This review aims to discuss the
breadth and functionality of the Nelsen et al. (2014) categorization of toxins.
Through their new categorical binomial nomenclature system, based on source, delivery
mechanism, and storage of toxins, Nelsen et al. (2014) introduces a novel term within the biological
toxins to further reduce the ambiguity of toxicological definitions such as venom and poison.

actively delivered to the surface of the antagonizing organism and affects without the necessitation

The Heart Reserves A Special Place For Music
The heart reserves a special place for music. To many, music is more than a melody or a
combination of sounds pulsating in ears; it brings out emotions, memories, and shared vibes.
Whether a person is an avid listener or casually listens to music, everyone has a few specific
albums that laid a foundation for the music they currently enjoy. Recently, I have rediscovered one
of these albums, Madvillainy, when putting my old playlist on shuffle. The album consists of
Daniel Dumile, the album s MC (rapper) who goes by many aliases, but most commonly as MF
Doom, and Otis Jackson Jr., or Madlib. The underground hip hop album was released in 2004 and
is now considered a classic by many. The album s 22 tracks consist of skits, instrumentals, and
rapping with most tracks around two minutes long. Madvillainy has proven to me to be a
masterpiece and a consistently good listen.
One of the qualities that set Madvillainy apart from its peers, is the superb production
performance given by Madlib. The album s production is magnificent, even to Pitchfork
standards, saying, the samples are smart and never played out, and the production and rhymes
reveal a determined sense of cooperation, as Doom spouts off his most brilliant lyrical change ups
and production conscious playoffs (Pemberton). Like stated in Pitchfork, the production works
cohesively with MF Doom s rapping. For example, on the song Meat Grinder , the beat alone
seems quirky, sounding like it belongs in an episode of Spongebob,

Four Different Market Structures

What are the four market structures and their characteristics? According to McConnell and Brue
(2004) describe four market structures that companies align themselves with during the course of
their corporate lives.: Pure Competition, Pure Monopoly, Monopolistic Competition and Oligopoly.
Companies may move from market structure to market structure over the course of growth and
time. This movement between structures may be the result of product changes, introduction of
competition or consumer interests. McConnell and Brue (2004) also states that, pure competition is
a very large number of firms producing a standardized product . This is the case with the corn ...

Many companies provide multiple services with products that are differentiated through location.
Companies like GEICO use the gecko for easy association with its brand name. The insurance
arena has easy market entry and exit and some price control. To maximize profit, insurance firms
must juggle three components of monopolistic competition; price, product, and advertising. In
specific reference to automobile liability insurance pricing systems, the risk factors that derive
price include insurer risk, regulation, geographical region, and investment returns. The rates are
comprised of fixed and variable costs. Fixed costs are relatively low because of minimal
operational expenses whereas variable costs are high because of the relatively unlimited risks. The
insurance firm is pricing for the long run equilibrium output so that price exceeds the minimum
average costs for a normal return.
An oligopoly is a market structure in which a few firms sell either a standardized or differentiated
product into which entry is difficult in which the firm has limited control over product price
because of mutual interdependence (except when there is collusion among firms) and in which
there is typically non price competition (McConnell and Brue, 2004). As the formation of trusts was
restricted in the United States, the oligopoly became the most frequent big business structure. With
four or five large firms responsible for most of the output of each

Here s the thing, though; to pick up the phone, I must first determine whether my goings on warrant
discussion at all, because without this preparation I may decide without thinking they don t matter
enough to be discussed, then regrettably second guess my conclusion once the call has ended. It s a

The Little Albert Experiment by John Watson and Rosalie...
The Little Albert experiment has become a widely known case study that is continuously
discussed by a large number of psychology professionals. In 1920, behaviorist John Watson and
his assistant Rosalie Rayner began to conduct one of the first experiments done with a child.
Stability played a major factor in choosing Albert for this case study, as Watson wanted to ensure
that they would do as little harm as possible during the experiment. Watson s method of choice for
this experiment was to use principles of classic conditioning to create a stimulus in children that
would result in fear. Since Watson wanted to condition Albert, a variety of objects were used that
would otherwise not scare him. These objects included a white rat, blocks, a... Show more content

This occurrence between the rat and the bar showed that the dual stimulations the week prior had a
lasting effect on Albert. In his case study, Watson explained that the stimulations were given to get
a complete reaction from Albert. The response from the stimulations was as convincing a case of a
completely conditioned fear response as could have been theoretically pictured (Watson, 1920, pp.
314). Every time the rat was joined with the loud sound (dual stimulation), Albert gave the same
complete negative reaction. In the experiment, pairing the rat and noise caused by the hammer
striking the bar, play the role of unconditioned stimulus (US), conditioned stimulus (CS) and
conditioned response (CR). Introducing Albert to the loud sound of hammering the bar is
measured as the unconditioned stimulus. The loud sound is something that Albert is not
accustomed to, so the response is unlearned. Conditioned stimulus occurred when Albert was
continuously introduced to the rat alone. Since Albert experienced the rat at the same the bar
was hammered, he has learned to associate the rate with the sound of the bar (US). Albert s
conditioned response in the experiment transpired when he was able to perform the same
behavior when he was presented with the rat (CS) over and over. After Watson was able to
condition a fear response in Albert for one object, he wanted to know if the response was carried
over.

The Great White Shark Essay
The Great White Shark Beginning with the simplest one celled organism, an extraordinary animal
rose in the murky waters entitled to a non comparable killing eating machine. This organism has
become nature s most genuine and most successful creature that it has remained unchanged for
over 250 million years. Nature finally invented the perfect king of the sea. This animal has given
the sea it s living adjective; in turn, it was entitled the great white shark.
The Great White Shark derived from a series of evolutionary advancements that took several billion
years. It began with the derivation of the vertebrates the Phylum
Chordata. Here, the Class Agnotha came to existence. Some features of Agnotha are the presence of

The great white shark has two types of muscles red and white. Red muscle is aerobic; thus, it needs
oxygen to function. This muscle contains myoglobin. The main function of the red muscles is used
just for swimming. The white muscle is anaerobic doesn t need oxygen. White muscles primarily
function for sudden bursts of speed when attacking a prey.
One cannot forget to realize the teeth of the great white, as well as its powerful jaw structure. The
teeth are actually modified, enlarged placoid scales. The teeth aren t anchored in the jaw; they are
just embedded on the gums. Unfortunately, when the great white shark eats on its prey, it
sometimes loses or breaks the tooth by the flesh. Luckily, sharks have developed a special feature
that enables it to replace its missing tooth. They have developed rows of teeth, each tooth moving
up to replace the missing one. A whole broken row of teeth can be replenished, just like a
conveyor belt. Each tooth, though, has a different shape, changing according to its necessity. The
great white has triangular, serrated edged teeth anywhere from one to two inches long. With this
feature, the shark is able to tear through the flesh for its meal. The jaw of the shark is made up of
strong bone tissue. It must be very powerful because the shark is designed for feeding.
In link to the teeth is the shark s olfactory sense,

Norsemen Family Circle Analysis
During basketball season my senior year of high school, we did an activity called the Norsemen
Family Circle. In this exercise one person sat in the middle of a circle, surrounded by the whole
team. Each person went around in the circle and gave the person in the middle a compliment, or
something to make them feel better. My coach picked me to be the first person in the circle, and I
was not used to getting the compliments that I got from the underclassmen. Multiple times I got
told that I was a great leader and someone that they looked up to, not only as a basketballplayer, but
as a person. In high schoolI didn t really receive comments from anyone. I was the athlete that
worked my hardest all the time, but never got the recognition

How Did Washington s Farewell Address Dbq
At the end of his second presidential administration, after forty five years serving America,
President Washington did not want to leave without imparting some final guidance and wisdom. To
do so, Washington, working from drafts written by James Madison and Alexander Hamilton, wrote
a letter to the American people titled The Address of Gen. Washington
to the People of America, on
his Declining the Presidency of the United Statesand more popularly known as Washington s
Farewell Address.
In his Farewell Address, President Washington first expressed his zeal for America and his reasons
for declining a third term as President. Immediately following these introductory comments,
however, Washington, driven by concern for the welfare of the... Show more content on

The first indispensable supports that Washington addressed are religion and morality. Where is the
security for property, for reputation, for life, Washington asked, if the sense of religious obligation
desert the oaths, which are the instruments of investigation in Courts of Justice? And let us with
caution indulge the supposition, that morality can be maintained without religion. Washington
went so far as to say that a person cannot claim to be a patriot if he should try to subvert religion
and morality. [R]eason and experience both forbid us to expect, that national morality can prevail
in exclusion of religious principle. ... [M]orality is a necessary spring of popular government. ...
Who, that is a sincere friend to it, can look with indifference upon attempts to shake the foundation
of the fabric?
Following his discussion of religion and morality, Washington briefly touched upon a very
important source of strength and security : public credit. Washington warned against incurring too
much debt, but also warned that sometimes a smaller expenditure to prepare for danger prevents a
much larger expenditure

Frankendoodle And Frankenstein
Frankenstein is a classic science fiction novel written by Mary Shelley, through the ages, many
adaptations have taken the story through various forms of popular culture. SpongeBob Squarepants,
a popular children s television show often alludes to classic literature, and makes it entertaining for
all ages. While this example is quite comical, it does hold classical elements associated with
Frankenstein, but takes a spin on the classic science fiction novel. In this essay I will consider the
similarities and differences between the two texts; Frankendoodle as well as Frankenstein . By
looking at the allusion apparent in Frankendoodle , it is clear to see that many of the more
popularized characteristics are found throughout the text,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Othello s Jealousy By William Shakespeare Essay
Othello s Jealousy
Jealousy. It is an emotion that we have all felt you know that sharp pang in your chest when you
start to feel insecurity or concern towards your significant other. In William Shakespeare s Othello,
Othello has a deep uncanny love for Desdemona that you would think that it could not be swayed or
destroyed. Ironically enough, Iago stirs his pot of lies and insinuates that Desdemona is being
unfaithful and is cheating on him with lieutenant Cassio, which causes Othello to become irrational
and fulfill an action only a man who is full of rage and envy would sought out to do to his own wife.
A psychologist assistant of psychology at the University of Maryland; Dr. White explains that
jealousy is not merely simple to explain, but it is a complex of thoughts, emotions, and action
which follows threats to the relationship, when those threats are generated by the perception of a
real or potential attraction between one s partner and a (perhaps imaginary) rival. Dr. White also
stated that the problem isn t just correlated with jealousy per se, but how a person responds to it.
Dr. White tested whether or not jealousy could be triggering factor when a person has low self
esteem, feelings of inadequacy and the view on sex roles. Dr. White reported that rationally

relationship private and secluded. In reviewing previous thesis s, Dr. White did an experiment on

citizens are struggling to find a way to cover their medical bills there has been a solution for some
people. Over the past few years there has been systems to help financially support U.S. citizens
with their medical bills. For example,Obama Care has been a big system to get the United States
citizens attention. Medicare and Medicaid are some more health care systems that help support
people. Medicare is the most common name for people over the age of 65. (source 4) Medicare
benefits are divided into 4 parts. The first two , A and B, are called Original Medicare . The
third, which is C, is known as Medicare Advantage . The fourth, which is D, is a prescription
drug plan. Facts state that congress has passed legislation to expand the program to cover
healthcare costs of illnesses. I believe that these health care systems are helpful to the people
that are struggling. The U.S. government should cover costs of medical bills for all U.S.
citizens. I feel that this change would be good for America. It would benefit the people
struggling and reduce stress of some people. Nobody can control their sickness and most people
can t just pull out $12,000 to cover their medical bills and call it a day. Most people have to work

The Importance Of An Ecosystem
An ecosystem is a biological community of interacting organisms and their physical
environment. An ecosystem consists of biotic factors and abiotic factors. The biotic factors of
an ecosystem are the living organisms, while the abiotic factors of an ecosystem are the
temperature, climate, sun, and the weather. The ecosystem being researched is the Great Barrier
Reef. The Great Barrier Reef is located right off of Australia. The Great Barrier Reef has around
400 types of coral and 1,500 species of fish. It has more than 3000 different reef systems. The
Great Barrier Reef is one of the natural wonders of the world, and for good reason. On the Great
Barrier Reef lives the Whitetip Reef Shark, Triaenodon Obesus, prefers to eat crabs and octopi,
as well as other animals of the sea. The scientific name for the octopus is Octopoda. The
relationship between the Whitetip and the octopus is an example of predation. Predation is the
preying of one animal on other animals. The species of octopi are usually mostly carnivores,
although some are omnivores. The Whitetip Reef Shark species is also a carnivorous species.
Another organism that lives on the reef is the sea cucumber. The sea cucumber, or Holothuroidea,
is a decomposer that lives on the reef floor and eats animal wastes as it crawls along. A threat to
the reef, specifically the coral, is the Acanthaster planci, otherwise known as the crown of thorns
starfish. This starfish is a predator to the coral because it eats the live

The True Language Of Love
The True Language of Love
When reading early British texts, readers often notice that two main themes are recurring within
the stories and poems of the time. These themes are love and religion; both of these were
important within the culture. However, the readers may not realize that the language used in
describing the two different themes is not different at all. In fact, the language of love and the
language of religion are very similar, especially in medieval texts. Two texts that provide an
excellent example of this type of language are Marie de France s Lanval and Margery Kempe s The
Book of Margery Kempe. Comparing the language used in these works with the biblical book Song
of Songs, it is clear that the language used in the texts of the medieval period doubles as both
religious and romantic.
Song of Songs, or Song of Solomon, is a book of the bible that focuses on Christ s love for his
people. Within the book, Christ is portrayed as the bridegroom and Christians as his bride.
According to Vivian de Sola Pinto, the book is the nuptial song of King Solomon and his Egyptian
Bride, but is also an allusion to the Love Union and Communion between Christ and the church ,
and even further, Christ and every believing soul (Pinto). Using this explanation, not only is the
language in this biblical book different from the other books of the Bible, but also it blends the
language of love and the language of religion. Using this philosophy about the
sensuality of the

Blockbuster History
The legacy encompassing the coexistence of blockbuster and independent films are quite
interesting and somewhat complex. History shows that at one point the word blockbuster had
nothing to do with a movie production and originated back in the 1940s. Blockbuster was
describing how large bombs can destroy city blocks in Hamburg during World War 11. The term
took on new meaning referring to anything capable of public impact. Another illustration of this
would be when a hyped play was expected to be very successful and competing theaters were
busted and put out of business. Soon the term blockbuster would become a dominant marketing tool
in the world of theater and filmproduction representing anticipated hits or big box office sales. In
other words, blockbusters were used interchangeably to the concept of major studios.
The movie Jaws in 1975 one of Steven Spielberg classics was a direct beneficiary of this cultural
phenomenon. The movie grossed well over $100,000.00 in ticket sales and laid the foundation of
the New Hollywood s blockbuster era. Movies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just because some films are produced on a low budget scale does not mean they are excluded as
possibly a hit movie. Many independent films were marked by less investment resources and were
politically inferior to the studios which affected how films were produced, directed and distributed,

major studios (back then known as the Big Five) were once independent studios prior to the
obliteration of the MPPC patents that where owned by The Edison Trust which dominated major
legal rights to the technology of the industry. The case ended by two Supreme Court decisions
which extended certain legal rights to independent

I have to find it for you, a gruff voice said.
My sight came back, diffused, dim dreamlike. A ghost drifted beside me in a billowy blouse, navy
breeches, stockings, and buckled boots. His hair long and loose and peacock blue was gathering a
lace of dust. He was blurred as ghosts often are, but his voice was clear.

I crept the rest of the way through and stumbled out into the stone space. I must have looked like a

It s about time, he said.
Sorry, for the delay. The Stone s inside, I muttered, handing him the flashlight.
He took several long strides, stopped, and eyed me suspiciously.
Breathe, I told myself. He s a man, not a monster.
Is this another one of your tricks?
No, I replied.
No, sir, he corrected.
Sir, I repeated.
He unscrewed the cylinder cap and dumped the pebbles into his hand. You re so done.
I turned to run, wondering if I d appear on a milk carton someday soon a blond kid, hands clasped
over my doughnut shaped mouth as a madman chased after me.
I reached the corridor with the low ceiling just as Bane rounded the corner. In seconds, my
sneakers crossed laces with his tennis shoes, and our combined forward momentum carried us

Biography of LeBron James Essay
When LeBron James was born, nobody would have guessed that he would have been the one to

made him quit. When he was in high school, James made the rounds of the postseason all star
games, and he earned most valuable player of the year award at the McDonald s High School All

The Word Superiority Effect ( Wse )
Abstract
The word superiority effect (WSE), recognition of letters better in words than non words, has
been observed in normal adults, but is not observed in studies done with normal children. The
supported theory is that this is caused by the development of top down processing sometime
during the children s growth. A Reicher Wheeler task will be conducted on normal children in 5
different age groups as well as adults. The expected results are to see an increasing WSE as the age
of the children increases.
Key Words: Word Superiority Effect
, Pseudoword Superiority Effect, Reicher Wheeler, Top Down
Processing, Children, Adults.
Top Down Processing Development:
Reicher Wheeler Task Results of Middle to Late Childhood Age Children
The word superiority effect (WSE) is the phenomenon that subjects are more likely to recognize
a letter accurately in a word (WINGS) than in a psuedoword, strings of letters that follow known
language rules and are pronounceable (WUNGS), a non word, strings of letters that do not
follow known language rules and are not pronounceable (WCHDS), or just in a mask (TXXXX)
(Coch, 2010; Grainger, 2003; Jordan, 1996). This is observed through The Reicher Wheeler
Paradigm. In this test a subject is shown a string of letters and asked to identify the letter in a
specific location using a forced choice task (Grainger, 2003; Hildebrandt, 1995; Jordan 1996). The
effect has been observed in many empirical studies, and has been seen in adults across

The inclusion of environmental management systems and value at Ford Australia plays a critical

  • 2. Essay about Physics Cantilever Lab Independent Assessment Physics Lab (SL): Cantilever Flexion Cherno Okafor Mr. Ebrahimi SPH4U7 October 21st, 2012 Introduction Purpose: The purpose of this Physics Lab is to investigate what factors determine the amount of flexion of the cantilever. Hence, the objective is to establish a relationship between the length of a cantilever, which may give some insight into the physics of cantilevers. Hypothesis: If one increases the length of a cantilever, one would expect there to be an increase in deflection/flexion of the cantilever. Similarly, if one increases the massof the load, one would expect there to be an increase in the deflexion/flexion of the cantilever. In addition, I predict that proportionality will also occur ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... * Dependent Variable: The deflection/flexion of the cantilever in metres. This will be measured indirectly by measuring the initial height of the bottom of the cantilever with no mass added (which is equal to the height of the table) and the new height of the bottom of the cantilever after each trial, which will be measured with mass added. Hence, the difference between these heights is equal to the deflection/flexion of the cantilever. The material and other physical properties of the cantilever will be controlled by using the same yardstick as a cantilever for each trial. Data Collection and Processing My experiment is divided into two parts; experiment A (involving the relationship between flexion and the mass of the load) and experiment B (involving the relationship between the flexion and the length of the cantilever). Below are two tables in which I have recorded the data which I obtained during the experiment. The first table reflects the Relationship between the deflection/flexion of the cantilever and the mass of the load and the second table reflects the relationship between the flexion of the cantilever and the length of the cantilever. • 3. Susan Glaspell’s Trifles Essay The first reading I enjoyed was Susan Glaspell s Trifles . The main character in the plat is a sheriff, his wife, the county attorney, and Mr. and Mrs. Hale. The opening scene is all of them in John Wright s kitchen. Mr. Hale tells the sheriff and attorney how he a visited the house on the day before day and Mrs. Wright greeted him but her demeanor was little suspicions. She told him that her husband was upstairs dead. She says she was asleep when someone choked her husband to death. All the men suspect she is the murderer. While the men look for evidence in the house they criticize Mrs. Wright s housekeeping skills and that really irritates Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peter, the sheriff s wife. While the men continue to look around the house,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They were on their way to New York City and had about a week left onboard. They are manly type of men. Mildred, a wealth passenger volunteered with Manhattan s Lower East Side s less fortunate and was on her way to do volunteer services in Europe. Mildred s Aunt believed Mildred s service to the less fortunate is slumming and does not understand why she has to do it in another country. She takes a tour of the ships and walks into the men work area. She walks in on one of Yank s rants. Disgusted by Yank s appearance and behavior she mumbles that he was a filthy beast. Paddy told Yank Mildred looked at him like he was a big hairy ape. That angered Yank. Yank ends up getting arrested because he makes a Gentleman in Manhattan miss his bus. While Yank is imprisoned on Blackwell s Island he finds out that Mildred s father built both the physical and metaphorical cage that had him trapped. His fellow prisoner tells him he should join the Wobblies or the Industrial Workers of the World. In Scene Seven, Yank visits the local I.W.W. but they kicked him out because the Secretary thought he was a government spy. In the eighth scene, Yank tried to become friends with an ape. ... • 4. China And Japan s Influence On The Western Civilization China and Japan had similar but different experiences with the Western civilization. China and Japan reacted differently to the Western nations and it was China s reactions to the West that would break the Chinese s isolation leaving their traditions behind. The Industrial trade in Europe and the United States had created a gap between Asia and the West, This left china and Japan far behind technologically and they were not able to stand up against the western nations and although at different times China and Japan both ended up having to sign unequal treaties, and to open their ports for merchants. China experiences the pressure of the imperialist s military which China did not have the knowledge or the experience to match. China went from a superior leader, self sufficient country, that thought that everyone else were barbarians to a torn country. China accepted foreign trade, but they wanted to control and limit how much and with who the trade was used for, they felt that they European trade was unnecessary. They did not allow the western merchants to have any power or privileges and restricted them to Canton, plus they refused to open their trade system beyond Co Hong which caused china to not become as prosperous as Japan. (Valentini 2013) Because China the believed that they were the center of civilization and that the Western culturewas inferior the Chinese government refused to go along with any of the European s request and the two nations became hostile towards ... • 5. Should Welfare Subsidies Be Limited For Only The Social... Safwan Siddiqi Mr. Williams AP Government and Politics, Period 2 March 28, 2015 Should Welfare Subsidies be limited to only the Social Security System? Social programs for aiding the needs of the U.S. population are called welfare subsidies. Federal social programs were first proposed with Theodore Roosevelt s New Nationalism, and expanded during the Wilson, Roosevelt, and Johnson Administrations. There are eighty three overlapping federal programs which vary in eligibility requirements. They help provide food, shelter, healthcare, education and money to American citizens. These services are provided through primary and secondary education, subsidies of college education, pensions for eligible persons, subsidies for eligible low wage workers, subsidies for housing, unemployment disability insurance, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, subsidies for housing, and health insurance programs that cover public employees. The largest and most prominent welfare subsidy is the Social Security Program and the second largest is Medicare. Aside from Medicare and Social Security, Congress allocated $717 billion to welfare subsidies in 2010. That same year, states allocated $210 billion. The total allocations for Social Security and Medicare were $1.3 trillion in 2013, which was 37% of the total Federal expenditure budget of $3.684 trillion. Aside from government welfare programs, private welfare is about 1.6 trillion, about ten percent of the total US GDP. As part of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These passages from the Qur an described Allah as an indivisible merciful God who guides Muslims. Allah was described as the compassionate Lord of the Worlds, who is the king of the day of judgement. These few statements revealed that the monolithic religion of Islam believes there is only one true God that rules over everything, not multiple. Another practice that is revealed, was their belief that God will guide Muslims in their daily lives, so that, they would reach Allah in heaven. God took their sick hearts and makes them sicker, punishing them for their disbelief. This did appear to be contradictory, as Muslims and the Qur an heavily emphasized God s compassion and mercy. In this case, God was not showing mercy to the disbelievers, contradicting the Qur an s initial statements about their belief of who God was. 3) What does this selection say about religious violence? What about nonreligious violence? The Qur an stated that God does not love aggressors. The Qur an stated that you should fight for the sake of God against those that fight against you, but only if they attack first. Upon being attacked, you should slay them where you find them and drive them out of the places from where they drove you; fight against them until God s religion reigns supreme. For nonreligious violence, the Qur an stated mankind has the right to guard himself against evil, but only if the means are just; one should not devour one s property by unjust means or be the first to attack. 4) How does the Qur an describe Jews and Christians? If, however, the man wrestling with a Tyrannosaurus was a modern Hollywood celebrity, not only would he have lived, he would have pocketed something like $20 million for his efforts, and earned the adulation of several billion people. Atwood introduces Offred as a handmaid in the Republic of Gilead. Handmaids are assigned to bear children for couples who have trouble conceiving. Offred serves the commander and his wife, Serena Joy. Offred s freedom is completely restricted. She can only leave the house on shopping trips, the door of her room cannot be completely shut, and the Eyes, Gilead s secret police force, watch her every public move. Serena Joy, she used to be a powerful woman, but Galilea s government seems without freedom or choice. She worked as a gospel singer and anti feminist activist and crusader for traditional values in Pre Gilead times. After that, she used to give speeches as a television personality who promoted an anti feminist about the sanctity of the home she was advocating the women return to the home and submission to their husbands. Now, she s the commander s wife. Atwood makes it obvious how unhappy she is in the current domestic situation, acting as a wife, she is broken inside. This unhappiness derives from the restrictive and male dominated society. Gilead s society cannot bring happiness even to its most powerful women. • 12. The Nature Of Human Nature In George Eliot s Silas Marner In George Eliot s Silas Marner there is no character who exemplifies the realism of human nature more than Godfrey Cass. The very fabric of Godfrey s characterization begs for analysis. Through Godfrey s actions, or lack of them, and the resulting consequences of his decisions, Silas Marner becomes a novel that draws a discussion of what good naturedness means in regards to action versus passivity. Godfrey s passivity is the driving force of the novel and in true Eliot fashion, it is his passivity that makes him neither a victim, nor a villain, but puts him somewhere in between. Put forth as a fine, open faced, good natured young man, Godfrey immediately contrasts his brother Dunstan, a spiteful jeering fellow, who seemed to enjoy his drink the more when other people went dry (Eliot 23). This automatically pits one against the other simply put, as good versus bad. Dunstan mocks him for his nature, saying, I m so easy and good natured. You ll take any trouble for me, essentially throwing Godfrey s most highly praised virtue back in his face and further cementing their previous categorization (Eliot 25). Godfrey is held in high esteem after this initial introduction. Furthermore, the condition of Godfrey Cass is one of whom had felt the keen point of sorrow or remorse and whom thanks to their native human kindness even riot could never drive into brutality (Eliot 29). According to his condition, Godfrey has weathered the conditions that have caused him sorrow and remorse, rather than having caused the conditions in the first place. This sets up Godfrey s rationalization behind his passivity, and allows for the notion that simply possessing a good nature is a good enough excuse to leave his decisions to chance. Consequently, after leaving such decisions to chance, the hesitating Godfrey finds that his own downfall unequivocally rests on his own shoulders (Eliot 26). Godfrey s hesitating and passive nature is more prevalent in none other than his denial of his infant daughter, Eppie. With the introduction of his secret wife and child, Molly and Eppie respectively, Godfrey s good naturedness takes its greatest hit. While Godfrey Cass was taking draughts of forgetfulness from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Chimpanzees follow under the species of the great apes which consist of the common chimpanzee; that most people are familiar with. The chimpanzee lives in the dense tropical rainforest of Africa. With this is mind, chimpanzees have been made to have certain features that allows them to survive effectively within their environment. One of the essential features of chimpanzees is their size. A chimpanzeegenerally weighs around 70 130 lbs and reaches the height of 4 5.5ft. Along with their size, fur is also a critical feature for them to have in order to thrive. Fur covers the top of its head, back, legs, and arms but does not have fur on its face, palm of its hands, toes, feet, chest, and stomach area. It would not make sense for a chimpanzee to have hair on their face because it would interfere with their sight. They don t have hair on their palms, toes, feet, chest and stomach because they have thick, coarse fur everywhere else which is able to keep their body temperature regulated. An equally important and easily recognizable feature of a chimpanzee would be their opposable thumbs. In addition to this, chimpanzee s make up of their bodies allows them to function in their environment. For instance, chimpanzee jaws are heavy and protruding, and the canine teeth are large. Their spines are constructed in a way where they can stand up similar to a human, but they also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Summary Of A Satire Against Reason And Mankind A Satire against Reason and Mankind is a poem written by John Wilmot the Second Earl of Rochester. Two things are argued against in this poem. First, mankind and its base nature that causes men to exploit each other for seemingly no reason. Second, mankind s ability to reason which causes them to compare themselves to God. However, at the end of the poem Rochester offers a chance for himself to be proven wrong, but only if a just man can be found. This idea of a just man is not Rochester believing mankind can improve, but rather it is him supporting his own argument because he knows that this man does not exist. When this just man is described he directly contrasts with humannature and shines a light on man s true baseness and shows... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Next, a scenario is offered to the reader to allow them to come to their own conclusion. The poem states, Be judge yourself, I ll bring it to the test, Which is the basest creature, man or beast... Beasts on each other prey, but savage man alone does betray... man undoes himself for no good... But man with smiles, embraces, friendship, praise, Inhumanly his fellow s life betrays; with voluntary pain distress, not through necessity but wantonness (2305). When animals prey on each other it is justifiable because it is out of necessity for food, but there is no way to vindicate men for attacking one another. Rochester then states that even men who are friends will voluntarily betray one another without provocation. Next, Rochester s argument shifts from being directed towards men themselves, but rather their ability to reason. Rochester introduces a clergyman in poem to act as an adversary that argues for reason and mankind. The clergyman states that he understands Rochester s argument but does not understand his hatred for reason and mankind. The clergyman begins his defense of mankind and reason by saying, Blest glorious man! To whom alone kind heaven and everlasting soul has been freely given; Whom his creator took such care to make, That from himself he did the image take, And this fair frame in shining reason dressed, To dignify his nature above the beast (2304). However, some principles are used widely in TV shows or movies. For example, classical conditioning can make people to perform a specific behavior after several times training . In the essay, the author will introduce a TV show called A Bite of China and discuss how the TV show use classical conditioning. Background information Classical Conditioning Classical Conditioning was founded by a Russian physiologist, Ivan P. Pavlov, in the early 1900s. At first, He assumed that animals have automatic connections called unconditioned reflexes, which is a reflection between a fixed stimulus and response such as the food and secreting digestive juices. He speculated that the stimulus can be transferred from one to another. After that, Pavlov did the experiments and get the conclusion. In the process, he gave a dog food and the dog salivated. The connection between the food and the salivation was automatic requiring no training. The food was called unconditioned stimulus (UCS) and the salivation was called unconditioned response (UCR). The UCS is an event that automatically elicits an UCR. In other words, the UCR is the action that the UCS elicits. Next, Pavlov introduced a new stimulus, such as a metronome. At the beginning, the dogs heard the metronome but did not salivate. In this period, the metronome was a neutral stimulus (NS) about salivation. After ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(2014) presents and discusses what the authors believe to be the inconsistencies among the definitions of poisons, venoms, and toxins, as well as the conflation, or mixing, of these terms within the literature. The three primary classes of toxins, biological, anthropogenic, and environmental, are defined and distinguished so that the authors can further discern the biological toxins using their own classification scheme (Nelsen et al. 2014). Nelsen et al. (2014) presents the necessity of their three class scheme, which they proposed due to the terminological inconsistencies within and among the literature on biological toxins. I think implementing a new term to detract from the misconstruction of existing toxicological definitions would be constructive, especially with the proposed corresponding binomial classification system. This review aims to discuss the breadth and functionality of the Nelsen et al. (2014) categorization of toxins. Through their new categorical binomial nomenclature system, based on source, delivery mechanism, and storage of toxins, Nelsen et al. (2014) introduces a novel term within the biological toxins to further reduce the ambiguity of toxicological definitions such as venom and poison. Toxungen, or a toxic ointment as stated by Nelsen et al. (2014), is a toxic substance which is actively delivered to the surface of the antagonizing organism and affects without the necessitation of a wound. With the introduction of the term, toxugen, ... • 33. The Heart Reserves A Special Place For Music The heart reserves a special place for music. To many, music is more than a melody or a combination of sounds pulsating in ears; it brings out emotions, memories, and shared vibes. Whether a person is an avid listener or casually listens to music, everyone has a few specific albums that laid a foundation for the music they currently enjoy. Recently, I have rediscovered one of these albums, Madvillainy, when putting my old playlist on shuffle. The album consists of Daniel Dumile, the album s MC (rapper) who goes by many aliases, but most commonly as MF Doom, and Otis Jackson Jr., or Madlib. The underground hip hop album was released in 2004 and is now considered a classic by many. The album s 22 tracks consist of skits, instrumentals, and rapping with most tracks around two minutes long. Madvillainy has proven to me to be a masterpiece and a consistently good listen. One of the qualities that set Madvillainy apart from its peers, is the superb production performance given by Madlib. The album s production is magnificent, even to Pitchfork standards, saying, the samples are smart and never played out, and the production and rhymes reveal a determined sense of cooperation, as Doom spouts off his most brilliant lyrical change ups and production conscious playoffs (Pemberton). Like stated in Pitchfork, the production works cohesively with MF Doom s rapping. Companies may move from market structure to market structure over the course of growth and time. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many companies provide multiple services with products that are differentiated through location. Companies like GEICO use the gecko for easy association with its brand name. The insurance arena has easy market entry and exit and some price control. To maximize profit, insurance firms must juggle three components of monopolistic competition; price, product, and advertising. In specific reference to automobile liability insurance pricing systems, the risk factors that derive price include insurer risk, regulation, geographical region, and investment returns. The rates are comprised of fixed and variable costs. Fixed costs are relatively low because of minimal operational expenses whereas variable costs are high because of the relatively unlimited risks. The insurance firm is pricing for the long run equilibrium output so that price exceeds the minimum average costs for a normal return. An oligopoly is a market structure in which a few firms sell either a standardized or differentiated product into which entry is difficult in which the firm has limited control over product price because of mutual interdependence (except when there is collusion among firms) and in which there is typically non price competition (McConnell and Brue, 2004). The Little Albert experiment has become a widely known case study that is continuously discussed by a large number of psychology professionals. In 1920, behaviorist John Watson and his assistant Rosalie Rayner began to conduct one of the first experiments done with a child. Stability played a major factor in choosing Albert for this case study, as Watson wanted to ensure that they would do as little harm as possible during the experiment. Watson s method of choice for this experiment was to use principles of classic conditioning to create a stimulus in children that would result in fear. Since Watson wanted to condition Albert, a variety of objects were used that would otherwise not scare him. These objects included a white rat, blocks, a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This occurrence between the rat and the bar showed that the dual stimulations the week prior had a lasting effect on Albert. In his case study, Watson explained that the stimulations were given to get a complete reaction from Albert. The response from the stimulations was as convincing a case of a completely conditioned fear response as could have been theoretically pictured (Watson, 1920, pp. 314). Every time the rat was joined with the loud sound (dual stimulation), Albert gave the same complete negative reaction. In the experiment, pairing the rat and noise caused by the hammer striking the bar, play the role of unconditioned stimulus (US), conditioned stimulus (CS) and conditioned response (CR). Introducing Albert to the loud sound of hammering the bar is measured as the unconditioned stimulus. The loud sound is something that Albert is not accustomed to, so the response is unlearned. Conditioned stimulus occurred when Albert was continuously introduced to the rat alone. Since Albert experienced the rat at the same the bar was hammered, he has learned to associate the rate with the sound of the bar (US). Albert s conditioned response in the experiment transpired when he was able to perform the same behavior when he was presented with the rat (CS) over and over. After Watson was able to condition a fear response in Albert for one object, he wanted to know if the response was carried over. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One cannot forget to realize the teeth of the great white, as well as its powerful jaw structure. The teeth are actually modified, enlarged placoid scales. The teeth aren t anchored in the jaw; they are just embedded on the gums. Unfortunately, when the great white shark eats on its prey, it sometimes loses or breaks the tooth by the flesh. These themes are love and religion; both of these were important within the culture. However, the readers may not realize that the language used in describing the two different themes is not different at all. In fact, the language of love and the language of religion are very similar, especially in medieval texts. Two texts that provide an excellent example of this type of language are Marie de France s Lanval and Margery Kempe s The Book of Margery Kempe. Comparing the language used in these works with the biblical book Song of Songs, it is clear that the language used in the texts of the medieval period doubles as both religious and romantic. Song of Songs, or Song of Solomon, is a book of the bible that focuses on Christ s love for his people. Within the book, Christ is portrayed as the bridegroom and Christians as his bride. According to Vivian de Sola Pinto, the book is the nuptial song of King Solomon and his Egyptian Bride, but is also an allusion to the Love Union and Communion between Christ and the church , and even further, Christ and every believing soul (Pinto). History shows that at one point the word blockbuster had nothing to do with a movie production and originated back in the 1940s. Blockbuster was describing how large bombs can destroy city blocks in Hamburg during World War 11. The term took on new meaning referring to anything capable of public impact. The Word Superiority Effect ( Wse ) Abstract The word superiority effect (WSE), recognition of letters better in words than non words, has been observed in normal adults, but is not observed in studies done with normal children. The supported theory is that this is caused by the development of top down processing sometime during the children s growth. A Reicher Wheeler task will be conducted on normal children in 5 different age groups as well as adults. The expected results are to see an increasing WSE as the age of the children increases. Key Words: Word Superiority Effect , Pseudoword Superiority Effect, Reicher Wheeler, Top Down Processing, Children, Adults. Top Down Processing Development: Reicher Wheeler Task Results of Middle to Late Childhood Age Children The word superiority effect (WSE) is the phenomenon that subjects are more likely to recognize a letter accurately in a word (WINGS) than in a psuedoword, strings of letters that follow known language rules and are pronounceable (WUNGS), a non word, strings of letters that do not follow known language rules and are not pronounceable (WCHDS), or just in a mask (TXXXX) (Coch, 2010; Grainger, 2003; Jordan, 1996).
