Life Is A Avoidance Of Life
Regardless how hard we try to escape the difficulties of life, life is never easy. For instance,
when a parent s expectation becomes too much for their child to handle, their child will be
conflicted with these expectations and will feel like a disappointment. In the book, Into the
Wild by Jon Krakauer, a young man named Chris McCandless escapes society and his family s
problems by deciding to live life on the road. McCandless came from a well off family and had a
natural talent for everything he did, but he had a bad relationship with his father due to his father
being unfaithful to his mother. McCandless s relationship with his father was the problem that
drove him to live life on the road. To McCandless and Krakauer life on the road meant going into
the wild, therefore life on the road can be defined as going into the wild. Although life on the road
allows people to find themselves, it is nothing more than an avoidance of life s problems. Many
young people carry out activities they enjoy to discover or find themselves. Life on the road
brought peace to McCandless. McCandless went on the road in his early twenties. McCandless
decided, after exploring in the west of the U.S, to go on an Alaska odyssey where he would
eventually die of starvation. One of his last acts before McCandless lost his life was taking a
picture of himself, But if he pitied himself in those last difficult hours because he was so young,
because he was alone, because his body had betrayed him and

To Kill A Mockingbird Atticus Quotes
Heavenly Treasures Atticus Finch, one of the main characters in To Kill a Mockingbird by
Harper Lee, displays many positive personality traits. A widower and gentle father of two
children, Scout and Jem, Atticus not only treats his family with fairness, but his friends and
neighbors as well. An African American man in their community has been accused of a rape
crime. Atticus feels strongly that the man s innocence will prevail. Since Atticus is a lawyer, he
decides he must do the right thing. He must defend the accused. Known by many as a kind,
impartial, and respectful man, Atticus earns a good name in his small community. No matter the
person, Atticus always treated people with kindness. A neighbor of the Finchs, Mrs. Dubose,
spoke harshly to Atticus as well as to his children, Jem and Scout. Instead of getting frustrated at
Mrs. Dubose, he understood that she suffered from illness. Therefore, he chose to treat her with
kindness. Easy does it, son, Atticus would say. She s an old lady and she s ill. You just hold
your head high and be a gentleman. Whatever she says to you, it s your job not to let her make
you mad. (133) Atticus rarely spoke in a harsh tone. He remained kind, even during the hard times,
because he deeply cared for others.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Scout said that she wanted to try and see their shut in neighbor, Boo Radley, Atticus

and Francis quarreled. She told her Uncle Jack that he wasn t fair like Atticus. Well, in the first

Molloy, Gest, Feinberg, And Osgood
Molloy, Gest, Feinberg, and Osgood address questions about adolescent groups composed of the
same sex and of different sex, in relation to timing of the group s formation as well as how different
structures correlate with delinquency, alcohol usage, and cigarette smoking, as well as more
positive characteristics. The authors acknowledge past studies that show that bi gendered friend
groups emerge with adolescent (Connolly, Furman Konarski, 2000; Dunphy 1969, etc), but the
authors aim to delve into the specifics of different groups and individuals within those groups
(2449). Their four topics of interest include: normative emergence of mixed sex friendship groups,
how structural features vary by gendercomposition, qualities of adolescents... Show more content on

In conjunction with research presented in lecture, Molloy, Gest, Feinberg, and Osgood found that
single sex groups dropped as age increased, but single sex groups dominated throughout, saying
that they aren t the norm. From personal experience, I would agree with the validity of these
findings, as throughout adolescence the majority of my friend groups as small as the ones to which
these authors are referring were mostly the same sex. The authors analyzed then the correlation
between types of groups and behaviors, finding mix sex groups to have the highest tendencies
towards alcohol and cigarette usage, and almost the same tendency for delinquency as mostly boy
groups. Furthermore, the authors found that mixed sex groups correlated with lower grades and

The Western as Commentary about Decaying Values Essay
The Western as Commentary about Decaying Values
The Western, as a genre, is subversive of the values that its Christian characters possess. Western
films frequently depict social depravity in terms of the mythology that developed during westward
expansion. The mythology was inspired by the threat of the frontier wilderness to Puritan culture. In
order to preserve their society, some Puritans departed from their ideal Christian lives. Western
films portray compromises that cultures make of the values that they define themselves by in order
to protect the integrity of their other values.
A contemporary Western, Open Range, which Kevin Costner stars in and directed, released in
1995, deals with a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He tells Boss one evening, My first skirmish was pretty much like hunting in them woods with my
friends. We just sat up in some trees and they came marching right at us. Must ve been a hundred
of them lying dead when the smoke cleared; went around and shot the rest who weren t. Charley
had joined Boss to leave his dismal past behind him. Baxter s threat, however, forces both men to
evaluate their situation and to decide how to approach it.
An important theme in Open Range is that violence is best avoided when it s possible to, but that
sometimes people must do what is ethical and violence is inevitable. Boss and Charley both know
that to take Button to the town s doctor mean that Baxter will try to kill them. They also know that,
ethically and as his friends, they owe Button whatever help they can find, and so they decide to
take the risk of visiting the doctor.
A noticeable role inversion occurs following Charley s story about his past as a solider. Once the
inevitability of confrontation is known, his superior skill and experience in gunfights projects him
as the leader. He explains, I got no problem killing, Boss, never have. Charley becomes like Daniel
Boone, the adventurous frontiersman and hunter hero of 18th and 19th century Kentucky, and Boss
like Boone s companion, faithful and capable, but reliant on Charley for guidance. The situation
forces both men into

Stereotypes And Prejudice Essay
How does this work?
At first I had to distinguish the difference between a stereotype and being prejudice. According
to the authors of our text Sensoy and DiAngelo, prejudice is a learned prejudgment about
members of social groups to which we don t belong. It is also based on limited knowledge about
a group of people. Judgments are made based on these prejudices and applied to everyone in a
social group. The learned prejudgment that our authors are talking about is what is referred to as a
stereotype. A stereotype is a belief about a certain group of people, while prejudiceis a feeling based
on their membership to a certain group with a stereotype.
One part of our authors definition on p.29 made me stop and think for a moment. ... Show more

Gaining knowledge about a social group is a path to minimizing the effect of our prejudice, which
can lead to discrimination.
One of our assignments assigned in the course called the Funds of Knowledge I believe is a way
to get us to gain knowledge about a social group within our school and see how we can use this
knowledge to minimize the effect that our stereotypes in our classroom.
What explicit and implicit valuing of certain groups (p. 30) do you notice in your school or
elsewhere? Are there social benefits and penalties associated with them?
I don t know if I see a lot of explicit valuing of any group of students at my school. I know through
the Positive Behavior Intervention Support initiative explicit praise is given for following
procedures and meeting expectations.
I think I see more implicit valuing being done. This could be in the form of using stereotypes of
social groups when it comes to dealing with parents. I have heard teachers talking about parents
and placing them in stereotypes before getting to know them. An example would be oh yeah my
new student s parents just moved into Shadow Brook . This is another way of saying they are
poor, because that area is low

Short Story Of The Duckling
He was Annoying, so I Threw Him in the Lake
On a late spring morning, within the bamboo forest, there s a lake with crystal clear water. Today,
I stop by the lake to grab a quick drink to quench my thirst. I was staring at the water and lost in
my thoughts until a high pitched squeaky voice startled me, Are you a hybrid of polar bear and a
black bear? I turn around and look down, I come face to face with an ugly creature, which I
assume is the owner of the squeaky voice. Upon closer look I recognize the ugly creature as a
petite mandarin duckling. He then open his beak again asking the exact same question with the
identical agitating voice Mr. Panda, are you a hybrid of polar bear and a black bear?
No, I m not, I responded with a monotone voice.
The duckling keeps staring at me for what seems like eternity. The silence combine with the staring
is too much for me to comprehend, so I walk away from it.
Few seconds later... SNAP! I stop walking, I slowly turn around and my heart almost stopped
when I discover that the duckling was following me along. I kindly asked the duckling Can you
please stop following me? I turn around and continue walking but the duckling is still behind my
trail. This time I walk the opposite direction, I m heading towards the lake, I peek around behind
and the duckling is still tailing me like I m some sort of celebrity. I turn around for the millionth
time, Why are you following me? I questioned the clueless duckling.

I am sure we have all seen or heard about taffy. What I would think would come to mind to most
people when I would say something regarding taffy might be something concerning saltwater
taffy. I love saltwater taffy. It seems that it is not in great supply around here. The only place I
know of is somewhere like the cracker barrel. Needless to say I never go to cracker barrel, and it is
a little more than I feel comfortable spending on candy. So I find myself resorting to a childhood
favorite, laffy taffy. It is sold everywhere, and it is very inexpensive. I really started to like it
when I played baseball as a kid. After the game I would always try to pump mom or dad for a
few cents to stock up. It never made it home. I would somehow eat my entire entire stockpile.

Abstract Business corporations often require summarized pieces of data in the form of pivot
tables for efficient and strategic decision making. However, the use of pivot tables poses certain
data storage problems especially in the light of the need to have the formulas stored with data. This
paper presents one data storage situation where using pivot tables for summarizing data was
unsuitable because the storage was done using a Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet, stored in XLS
format. The project purposes to implement the data storage using a database management system, in

This paper implements the solution using Microsoft Access 2007. In this case, the table would
have each Employee with the values such as Al and Clara, the Date with values like 1/05/2011,
and the Status with values o, wh, and wa. This would result in several records per day but each
record would represent only one Employee. With this form of normalization, it is possible and
plain to create the desired pivot table. In fact, pivot tables generated from this normalized data
would be able to answer questions like which employee worked away on a certain day of the
month? Unfortunately, though, this data is stored in a way that the user would not be able to
see or even use it at times. There are many benefits of using a database over spreadsheets for
storing this kind of data. The following is a list of some of these benefits to the sales business
and users: * Database management systems provide for restricted access to * Databases help
reduce or avoid data storage redundancy * Persistent storage of data structures and useful program
objects like queries and reports * Databases help enforce referential and standards * Databases
help in representing sophisticated relationship among vast amounts of data * DBMS provide for

Theme Of Social Norms In The Tempest
Whether one realizes it or not, the world we live in is governed by certain expectations and
unwritten rules that our society creates. These expected behaviors are called norms. When one
establishes the role that they play in society, they are governed by the expectations that society
places on that specific role. Norms give order to a society, but is that enough to say that they are
good for citizens? Are these norms needed to govern our behavior in a way that our government
cannot? Social norms and the effect that they can have on a person or group of people is shown
through Shakespeare s The Tempest. The characters in The Tempest are negatively affected by the
unwritten social norms that they are expected to follow, and today these... Show more content on

He encouraged two other men to join him, Stephano, a butler, and Trinculo, a jester. All three of
these men shared one thing in common: a low place in society. In an effort to free themselves
from society s pressure, the men plotted to murder Prospero. Stephano says, Monster, I will kill
this man: his daughter and I will be king and queen, save our graces! and Trinculo and thyself
shall be viceroys (Act 3 Scene 2 Lines 106 108). Before they got the chance to kill, Prospero
caught them, proving society s power, once again, to be too strong. Many times, Stephano and
Trinculo talked about how they would break from their low place in society. At the end of the
story, however, they find themselves stuck under King Alonso s power, just as they were before
the shipwreck. Despite all of their efforts, Stephano, Trinculo, and Caliban all were stuck in their
low place in society. In the same fashion, Prospero had also been told by society that the only
way he could live a good and prosperous life was to get his dukedom back. Without this fancy
title, society convinced Prospero that he was unimportant. Prospero had the whole island to

Deyonne s liabilities and deduction of assets: 1. 35 sheep 2. 3 sheep
Due to the information, 20 acres of land equal 80 sheep according to the exchange rate of last year,
a one room cabin equal 3 acres of land and equal 12 sheep finally, a plow equals 2 goat and equal 2
/3 sheep according to last year s exchange rate and 2 carts which were traded with a poor acre of
land equals 8 sheep plus 400 sheep. So Deyonne s total assets are 500(2/3) sheep. Deyonne s

Therefore, Batonne is wealthier. Accounting game2: Deyonne s income of current year: 80
sheep Deyonne s loss of current year: 1 ox (equals 5 sheep) Batonne s income of current year: 1.
20 sheep 2. 40 sheep (which were traded for 10 acres of land) 3. 5 coats (which worth 25 goats
and equal 8(1/3) sheep finally) Explanations: 1. Because it is the comparison of income, the loss
of Deyonne cannot be deducted from the total amount of his income. 2. Batonne traded 40 sheep
for 10 acres of additional land, but the sheep derived from his income. So the 40 sheep should
also be counted as his income. 3. Batonne s wife received 25 goats due to order of sailing, which
should be regarded as part of income. But the other order, which has not been realized, cannot be
regarded as income. 4. As for the 18 sheep that Batonne traded for food and clothing items and 7
sheep that Deyonne did similarly, they were part of their original property. So they cannot be
regarded as income. Consequently, according to the information, Deyonne s income of last year
was 80 sheep, while Batonne s income was that 20 sheep plus 40 sheep that were traded for 10
additional land and 5 coats equaling 8(1/3) sheep. Therefore, Deyonne s income of 80 sheep was
versus Batonne s income of 68(1/3) sheep. Deyonne s income was greater for the past

Essay on Ernest Green
Ernest Green
Throughout the American South, of many Negro s childhood, the system of segregation
determined the patterns of life. Blacks attended separate schools from whites, were barred from
pools and parks where whites swam and played, from cafes and hotels where whites ate and slept.
On sidewalks, they were expected to step aside for whites. It took a brave person to challenge this
system, when those that did suffered a white storm of rancour. Affronting this hatred, with
assistance from the Federal Government, were nine courageous school children, permitted into the
1957/8 school year at Little Rock Central High. The unofficial leader of this band of students was
Ernest Green.

If one of the chosen students failed in their exams, the segregationists would declare integration a
failure. Of all the children from the Horace Mann High School and Dunbar Junior High School,
eighty signed up to attend Central High. After numerous interviews and exams, thirty two children
were considered eligible . This number was reduced to nine after the ramifications of black students
entering an all white high school prompted many of them to decline the transition into an arena
where mental and physical violence would be forced upon them daily. Understanding this it is clear
that Ernest Green is an extraordinary young man from the outset. He obviously possessed
remarkable intelligence and defended a strong belief in his intentions for relocating in his pivotal
senior year. All of the children that had reached this far into the selection would have sensed that
they were a part of an uncertain, yet historic situation, that would further Negro rights.
Ernest Green was well aware of the discrimination present amongst segregationists in Little Rock.
Since the age of eleven he had worked during his holidays and adapted well with his fellow white
workers. Working as a stockboy, cleaner and part time salesperson, Ernest was proficient in his
duties, until he tasted the sting of prejudice when customers complained about his position in the
store. Segregationists may not have accepted such a confident youth, but his mother

Join Or Die Summary
In the photo titled Join, or Die , each of the eight cut pieces of the snake are labeled with
abbreviations. By looking at the various abbreviations and knowing what each one stands for, one
can conclude that each of the segments of the snake symbolize the early American colonies. The
snake is separated in pieces to show that the colonies were not yet unified. The phrase Join or die
is stating that the colonies need to unite in order to be strong during the French and Indian war.
When each piece of the snake, or colonies, is cut off, the snake cannot survive. When the pieces are
put together, the snake, or the colonies united, can survive and flourish during a time of great need.

Their differences made them wary of one another. In Unity and Identity of the American Colonies,
Deanna K states that Many of the colonies were envious or suspicious of each other, which

someone who had an influential position and whose word was trusted by the colonies. This is clear
because the person who created the photo made a difference and influenced the colonies to unify.
During the time period in which this photo was created, the mid 1700s, the most influential
people in America were usually, if not always, white, upper class males. This is because females
and people of different races did not yet have the same rights and power that white upper class

I Am Sam s Mental Retardation
I am Sam was quite possibly one of the best movies I have ever seen in my life. I was personally
very moved by the entire story. I learned a lot about how these kinds of cases usually pan out for
those that are mentally disabled. I had not ever thought of a story like this, but now that I was
opened to these kinds of issues in the lives of people with mental disabilities, I am glad that I
watched this movie and gain some insight.
Sam faced several psychological issues in this story. Out of all the psychological issues this movie
portrays Sam to have, his mental retardation is the one that is the main focus of the story. This
movie goes to show that his intelligence is that of a seven year old. This escalades the story
because as his daughter begins school, her intelligence grows larger than her fathers, which is the
center of the problem throughout this story. In the beginning, the movies goes to show that Sam
has a case of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). Throughout the movie, they continue to show
his case by first organizing the artificial sugars at Starbucks to finally, near the end, organizing
alcohol pads from Pizza Hut. Along with OCD, we find out from the help of the lawyer fighting
against him in court, that Sam also has autistic tendencies. Also, in several parts throughout the
movie, Sam shows behavior such as going to a certain restaurant the same time every week, and
having to eat a certain thing at a certain place, or else he becomes very upset. Along with

A Report On Fedex Corp
Recruitment is the process of detecting that the business needs to employ somebody up to the
point at which application forms for the post have arrived at the business or now a day can be
completed over the business website. Selection then consists of the processes involved in choosing
from applicants an appropriate candidate to fill a post. Recruiting people to fill particular posts
within a company can be done either internally by recruitment within the company, or externally by
recruiting folks from outside.
A company that is finding a strong correlation between its social outreach and business goals is
FedEx Corp. It broadcasts the company s involvement in such areas as community and disaster
relief, environmental issues and work life balance. FedEx also controls social media as an
advertiser. In December 2009, FedEx was named by Glassdoor.com, a jobs Website, one of the
best places to work in the US in 2009, compiled from company employee reviews throughout the
year.
FedEx always recruited people who were willing to take risks, who were risk taking by nature, and
was willing to take up challenges. During its initial years, when Fedex was relatively unknown and
the overnight express delivery concept was not tested and proven, joining the company was
considered a risky proposition. The company tempted functional experts by offering them stock

Economic development for small cities can be a problem compared with big cities. The
metropolitan areas are more likely to attract and retain the manufacturing and technology
companies. However, development agencies are looking for different policies incentives to make
the small cities more competitive with larger cities. The idea of investing in cultural development is
a viable option to improve the economic developmentof communities spread in rural areas. The

The creative class initiatives are the key force for the economic growth in the post industrial phase
when service sectors outweigh the manufacturing sector. Consistent with the creative class,
promoting art and culture based on the art tour is a suitable idea to help the southwest Iowa
communities to grow. In addition, it also promotes the region encouraging people to visit and
moved to the following cities. According to Zachary Mannheimer, the director of the Des Moines
Social Club, if the city wants to stimulate the economic growth, it should invest in the arts rather
than get started in the jobs, this investment will make small communities achieve optimum results
quickly. Furthermore, the agencies use events as a tool of the attraction of people and companies
showing that the region is a viable place to live. The trend observed is that events make an
interconnection of the individuals with the community and it is a very good idea to connect
communities through art. Therefore, three recommendation are the key to the success of the cities
in the southwest of Iowa. First, it is mandatory to stimulate partnership between communities
among arts groups, communities, and organization. Consequently, the events can turn into a
potential tool to offer a cultural education for the community and create a program of school based
art education for the residents. Second, the civic engagement of the community is an important
strategy to achieve the results. When the community works together, it makes the difference for
the future, based on the developing knowledge, skills, and values to promote the quality of life.
Finally, developing and build an environment audience is a key to reach and involve more citizens
based on the cultural development. The fact of involving more people in the plan it is a way to

Comparing the Narrative and Formal Devices of ChungKing Express and A Bout de Souffle
Wong Kar Wai s movie ChungKing Express bears many similarities to Godard s A Bout de Souffle
. To start with, Wai employs a number of cinematic techniques, obviously derived from the French
New Wave, such as for example the jump cut which is evidently taken from Godard s film. His use
of the Godard ian jump cut seamlessly blends temporally exclusive scenes together, making the
passage of time unnoticeable. Other Godard ian touches include the many shots of clocks, which
remind the viewer that despite the protagonist s fixation on the past, time continues to move on and

She wears the same type of cloths, has the same hair do and her rather eccentric attitude to life also
corresponds to that of her French counterpart.
The primary function of the traditional Hong Kong film industry was to churn out movies aimed at
the general public and make sure that they bring in a profit. This is much like the French film
industry was before the emergence of the French New Wave. However Wai s ChungKing Express
was clearly not aimed at the masses, but rather only at the people who have developed a real
understanding and appreciation for the art of film. Godard s A Bout de Souffle was also a film
which was made to rebel against the old style of French cinema and break the conventions of the
film industry. In this way, both of the film directors have something in common with each other.
Much of Wai s work has included themes of time passing and how every human emotion, every
material object or specifically tinned food expires. This reoccurring matter isn t simply an accident
but it carries a very significant political message. At the time that Wai made ChungKing Express ,

Women Oppression In Literature
We re Not Going To Take It: Women Oppression in Literature
What is oppression? Oppression is defined as prolonged cruel or unjust treatment ( Oppression par.
1) Women have experienced maltreatment since the Fall of Mankind. The subjection of women has
decreased within the past two centuries, due to their natural rights being acknowledged. Over the
years, people have protested the treatment of women through literature. Girl, Married Life,
Punishment, and The Declaration of Sentiments shares the theme of women s oppression. Despite
having the same themes, the authors use distinct social context and develop their arguments
differently.
Jamaica Kincaid, author of Girl, displays the unfair treatment of young women in Antiguan society.
In the poem, a girl is receiving a lecture on how to be a woman. She is not encouraged to be herself
or to gain an education. In fact, the mother continuously refers to her as a slut, the slut I know you
are so bent on becoming (Kincaid 1146) The role of the Antiguan woman is that of homemaker.
Berleant Schiller suggests, the domestic domain of women is sometimes implicitly regarded as
inferior (Berleant Schiller 254). Women in Antiguan society are taught extensively how to prepare
meals and set tables. Where and how an Antiguan family eat indicates their social standing
(Berleant Schiller 259). Kincaid identifies the importance of the meal place through the use of
repetition.

18th Century Ottoman Essay

Eighteenth Century Ottoman Empire The Ottoman Empire was a state founded by Turkish tribes
under Osman Bey in 1299. Under the leadership of Mehmed II, this fledgling nation became an
empire with the conquest of Constantinople in 1452 by Mehmed II. The Ottoman Empire continued
in its imperial form until it became the Republic of Turkey in 1923. As an empire, it was the most
powerful state in the world with 32 provinces during the seventeenth century. In the last half of the
seventeenth century, the Ottoman Empire functioned under the rule of the Koprulu family, a

The Janissary corps distinct social class and special privileges soon brought more harm than good
to the Sultans of the eighteenth Century. The group of men grew corrupt and lived above the law.
Not even the poor were given mercy. A prime example of this can be found in Lady Montague s
Turkish Embassy Letters, where the janissaries slaughter and feast on the poor s livestock then
require the households to pay teeth money. The lawlessness of these men grew so unbearable that
Lady Montague also observes and writes about, how tis the Emperor s interest to flatter [the
janissaries] (Montagu, 105). The groups power became unchecked and tension between the Sultans
and janissaries magnified.
Ahmed III was the first ruler of the eighteenth century. His close ties to the European rulers lead
to prosperous relations with the French and Swedish. Ahmed, during his reign, afforded refuge
to Charles XII of Sweden after the Swedish defeat under the hands of Peter I of Russia in the
Battle of Poltava of 1709. In response to the Swedish defeat, Ahmed declared war against Russia
and won the Ottoman Empire s most notorious victory over Russia. Never before had the Ottoman
forces come so near to breaking the Russian power. The invasion, however, was halted in response
to the incursion of Safavids. Aside from the war, Ahmed left the finances of the Empire in a
flourishing state

In the process of moving from raw material to getting finished goods to customers, products move
around quite a bit. RFID tags use wireless signals and small devices attached to each product. The
information is stored and displayed in a convenient location. This technology allows for more
effective tracking of products as they move throughout the supply chain, resulting in fewer lost
goods and better security (Prance). Tracking products will also allow the company to see how
many components and products are wasted. More information about their supply chains will allow
companies to make more improvements to their logistics systems.
Goods worth over $100 billion are returned to retailers in the United States annually. In fact,
according to Devangshu Dutta, director of a supply chain solutions company, nearly 20% of
everything that is sold in America is returned (Roy). In the past, companies would throw out most
of these products. Now companies are beginning to realize the large losses they suffer because of
these returned products. With reverse supply chains, companies can recycle, refurbish, or reuse
products or components to save millions. Estee Lauder used to throw out almost $60 million worth
of its products every year; after implementing reverse supply chain, the company has lowered its
amount of destroyed products by almost half.

UNIX systems use to use flat files for storing data. Word processors and spreadsheet software can
create flat files. Health Care facilities might use this type of data file for posting employee phone
lists. Hierarchical database have data in a tree like structure with a parent to child relationship
(one to many). The parent could have many children but the children have only one parent. All
the attributes of the data is in a list under one entity type. A relational database is a database that
consists of a collection of tables with columns showing entities, and rows showing data. This type
of database uses a primary key and foreign key. The foreign key in another table will point to the
primary key of a table, and this is how tables can relate to each other. This permits for one to one,
one to many, and many to many relationship between the data. An advantage of relational databases
includes the ease of adding or modifying new tables and entities without needing to change the
structure of the database already in place. Relational database have many features, including
indexing, setting data type, and setting validation tests, all these help to ensure data integrity.
Conclusion The information about the different types of databases that are available helps to
explain the type of health care facilities use. The presentation of details on the architecture of

Estimates for cats alone range up to 70 million. Only 10% of the animals received by shelters have
been spayed or neutered. Overpopulation, due to owners letting their pets accidentally or

Due to these underlining evidences, the community has noticed an issue regarding the over

Importance of Childcare Background Checks
Criminal Background Checks Childcare background checks have always been important for
those hiring people to work particularly with children. But, the recent rise in child related crimes
in the past decade has made this kind of check even more important, not only to people hiring
childcare workers, but for anyone that will be providing care for a child in any way. This includes
volunteers working with children in a public daycare center, church daycare center, home daycare
center, and even for volunteers at summer camp. Parents have become much more protective over
their children, and with good cause (Oliveri, 2008). Organizations that hire employees or
volunteers are accountable for their actions and must make sure, as best they can, that the people
representing them can be trusted with their clients. Employers should be well informed on the risk
of failing to conduct screening checks of potential volunteers or employees, as they may be held
legally and morally accountable through vicarious liability. Vicarious liability makes an
organization accountable for the behavior of volunteers or employees under certain circumstances.
It functions on the supposition the organization has aggravated the risk that harm would take place.
It makes sure that organizations take all rational measures to decrease the risk of harm by using
methods such as screening. If they fail to take reasonable measures to reduce the risk of harm to
their clients, an organization (such as a school,

Emergent Literacy
EMERGENT LITERACY
Emergent literacy is used to describe how a young child interacts with books and when reading
and writing, even though they could not read or write in the usual sense of way. Emergent literacy
is a process that takes place over the timeframe from birth until a child can read and write in what
we think to be a standard sense. The key to term literacy is the consistency of all parts of language:
speaking, listening, reading, writing, and viewing. Some people believe that, up until a child starts
school he/she will first learn to read and then learn to write. The process to learning to read and

Persuasive Essay On Seat Belt Safety
On April 15th, 2017, a student rolled his car two and half times, the car was totaled. The student
walked away without a scratch on him due to the fact that he was wearing a seatbelt. That
student was me. The act of putting your seat belt into the buckle of your seat takes a mere two
seconds. Two seconds is obviously a small price to pay if the cost could potentially be your
entire life. When drivers and passengers are involved in car accidents, they are more likely to
survive if they are wearing a seatbelt. Seat belts save lives as well as they often prevent major
injuries. When involved in a serious car accident, seat belts have proven to be effective in saving
lives and preventing injury. When involved in a car accident, passengers in the car are subject to
concussion, ejection, paralyzation, or even death. Seat belts strap a passenger into their seat in the
car, this prevents ejection from the vehicle. 75% of people who are ejected from their vehicles die
from impact or related injuries (CDC). This incredibly high statistic proves the effectiveness of
seatbelts holding you into the car and preventing death by ejection. In addition to this, the US
Department of Transportation states that 88.5% of people used seat belts in 2016 (US
Department of Transportation). This number is up 7% from 81.2% in 2006, meaning drivers and
passengers alike are realizing the necessity of wearing a seatbelt. The increased use of seat belts is
likely due to scare tactics used by law

The Song Cherry Wine By Indie Rock Artist
In the song Cherry Wine , written and performed by indie rock artist Hozier, it becomes apparent
early on that this is not what one might consider a typical love song; nor is it about a typical
woman. Although the acoustic guitar and softer melody paint a peaceful picture, the lyrics express
that there is something much deeper that lies beneath its surface. From beginning to end, every
verse about this woman and his relationship with her is a contradiction, which immediately sets the
tone for the way he feels being with her: it s a battle. While most lovesongs are written in hopes of
appealing to a wide audience, Hozier simply writes about the faults he has found in his own
relationship and how, regardless, he can t seem to walk away. Although Hozier continuously
professes his love for this woman throughout this song, there are still darker lyrics and elements
that should be acknowledged as well. The second verse begins with this line: Calls of guilty fall
on me/ All while she stains the sheets of some other. It s very clear in this lyric that this woman
has continuously accused him of being unfaithful to her all while it is implied that she is the one
who has been unfaithful. It is not just coincidence that, a few lines before, Hozier says It looks
ugly, but it s clean. Oh mama, don t fuss over me, which suggests that his friends and family are
concerned about this relationship but he insists that it isn t as bad as it looks. It s interesting how

Though not mentioned in the news and talks of society, near earth objects (NEOs) are an
international threat for countries worldwide. A NEO is a meteoroid, asteroid, or comet pushed by
the gravitational attraction of nearby planets, potentially entering the earth s orbit and thereby pose
a danger of collision. Space agencies around the world express the universal outlook that NEOs
must be somehow controlled or mitigated in their magnitude of impact. Austria, along with many

In regards to the solutions for this issue, Austria welcomes the assistance of other countries and
recommends the development of a system to regulate the responsibilities of countries on such

Larger and more capable countries will be presumed as responsible for the NEOs affecting them if
they choose not to apply for assistance. The UN SPIDER is precisely the platform to use for the

Who Is Cool Hand Luke As A Christ Figure
Luke as a Christ Figure In literature, it s not uncommon for authors to create a character who
parallels Christ himself. In Cool Hand Luke, directed by Stuart Rosenberg, starring Paul Newman,

I am not a big fan of the 1990 movie version of William Shakespeare s Hamlet, starring Mel
Gibson. I feel that while it stands alone as a very well made movie and contains great acting
performances throughout, I think that it strays too far from the original text and layout of the play.
The omissions and transposing makes the play weaker, and while it is a great screenplay, it fails in
comparison to Shakespeare s original work. The three things which bother me the most are the
omission of Fortinbras and the handling of the, To be or not to be... soliloquy and the Get thee to a
nunnery... scene, and Hamlet s Oedipus complex. Omitting the subplot of Fortinbras took away the
whole political aspect of the piece. It also weakened the ending.... Show more content on

I felt they through away the Hamlet/Ophelia scene and turned something beautiful into something
boring. The only thing that makes it work is the great acting performances of Mel Gibson and
Helena Bonham Carter. Carter is superb as Ophelia, much better than Kate Winslet, who was great
in the Branagh version.
I was pleasantly shocked at the performance, especially the scene where goes insane after finding
out her father is dead. That is something else that greatly bothers me. I don t like the way Gibson
was directed to play the scene in which he kills Polonius. He doesn t even play it like he cares
that he did it. That also makes Hamlet seem like a man who does not have a mind. I read
somewhere once that Gibson felt the same thing about the scene.
Ian Holm gives a very fine performance as Polonius. Alan Bates also shines as Claudius. He gives
such a fine performance in the role. I am not a big fan of Glenn Close, but she was wonderful as
Queen Gertrude. I just don t agree with Oedipus story line. I don t feel that the original text calls
for it to be so played out.
Shakespeare hints at incestual activities in a lot of his plays, including between Tybalt and his
aunt in Romeo amp; Juliet. But I don t feel it should be taken so literally. It made Hamlet seem
as though he really was completely insane. That, to me, keeps the whole play from working. But
again, as a movie, it works. Mel Gibson gives a very fine performance as the tragic hero.
The only times which he

How Did The Cold War Containment
The U.S. had a foreign policy of containment during the Cold War and wished to stop the spread of
communism by the Soviets because they send economic aid to Western European countries and
they collaborate with democratic nations who are resisting subjugation. The containment policy
resulted in the joining of NATO (i.e. the end of isolationism) and the majorly successful Truman
Doctrine, Marshall Plan, and the Berlin airlift. Those policies paved the road to stop the spread of
communism to the Western European countries and Asia. (3)
The United States sent economic aid to Western European countries in order to contain
communism. The Marshall plan is now known as the most unselfish act in history. (The Cold War

In a speech given on June 5th, 1947, George C. Marshall, Secretary of State, said, Europe s
requirements...of essential products principally from America are much greater than her present
ability to pay that she must have substantial help or face economic, social, and political
deterioration of a very grave character. (Cold War Reader 17) This proves foreign policy was
containment because they wanted to rebuild the damaged countries economy, so they can resist
communism. In order to ensure communism did not spread and prosperity was reached, a healthy
economy was needed. The Berlin Airlift was a huge step to ending communism. The Soviets
closed all ground routes into the city because they wanted Western powers out. The United States
fought back by flying over Berlin in cargo planes to supply Berlin with necessary supplies. Flying
Douglas Aircraft was one of the major cargo planes at the time. The company created a political

Analysis of Night and Fog Essay
The effective war film is often the one in which the action begins after the war, when there is
nothing but ruins and desolation everywhere...
Francois Truffaut
Francois Truffaut continued on to say that Alain Resnais Night and Fog, made in 1955, was the
greatest film ever made . The 30 minute film based on the horrors of the Holocaust and Nazi
concentration camps after World War II combines Resnais own cinematography with original
images and footage of the captives in their unfathomable state. The film is lead with a somber
narrative that not only accompanies the sobering images being shown but both compliments them
and puts them into perspective. Carl R. Plantigna s chapter from his book Rhetoric and

For example, the shot at approximately 9:05 that shows an image of naked, skeletal prisoners
waiting in line where the voice over narrates nudity strips the inmates of all pride in one stroke
demonstrates this authoritative position as the voice is dry and matter of fact in contrast to the
horrifying image, yet it is somber with empathy. Together with image choice, music and
cinematography, this Voice of God narration personifies the films perspective in order to not only
show but to explain to the viewers the meaning of what is on the screen.
Plantigna deliberates on various differences between the fiction and non fiction filmmaker,
particularly the role of imagination to the two differing styles of film. He discusses that the
fiction filmmaker freely creates imaginative events , where the non fiction filmmaker portrays or
makes explicit claims about actual historical events (104). He then puts forth the idea that
imagination is also important for the non fiction filmmaker as he as the creator decides how to
represent historical events (104). This is demonstrated in shot 237 where Resnais camera pans
over the ceiling of a gas chamber that has been carved in and scored by human fingernails and the
voice over narrates, the only sign but you have to know is this ceiling, dug into by fingernails .
Here, Resnais using his imaginative ability, has seamlessly

Dire Direct Animal Killing Essay
In Moscow, feral dogs have learned how to effectively ride the subway system and will turn and
attack humans that mistake them for a domesticated species. (Macdonald) Older deer seem to
have learned how to cross the street safely, as they look back and forth the entire time they are
crossing. However, this is a learned behavior that cannot be passed genetically onto their
offspring, and so younger deer will recklessly skip onto the road, directly in the path of an
oncoming vehicle, and this causes fatal car accidents. Even alligators can cause serious bodily
harm if someone were to retrieve a golf ball from a shallow pond without noticing the alligator s
presence, or if they are digging through residential garbage cans and eating food left out for pets
and a human stumbles across the alligator. They will even ambush unattended pets. (ALLIGATORS)

(D. Hill) The risk of contracting a fatal disease is a very serious threat. Rabies is a viral disease
(genus Lyssavirus) that affects all mammals, and so can be spread from any mammal to a human.
The disease cannot be diagnosed until symptoms appear, and once symptoms have appeared the
victim almost always dies. Although not conventionally thought of as wildlife, mosquitoes (genus
Anopheles) can be considered urban wildlife, and they are the carriers of the deadly malaria parasite
Plasmodium (genus). Malaria commonly ends with the death of the victim; the disease claims up to
one million people annually. (DeMichele) Some scientists are now worried that the persistence of
human expansion could potentially cause a global pandemic of the H5N1 virus that is introduced
into our populations via infected migratory birds that come to stay in the

Analysis Of The Niger Delta And Its Past Struggles With...
Case Summary What has occurred in the Niger Delta is linked to its past struggles with military
rule transitioning to democratic rule, which often ends in a military regime taking control
nonetheless. From the start of its independence, Nigeria has slowly grown in its dependence on
oil as it s main economic revenue stream. Before the discovery of oil, the state had yam and
cassava crops, palm oil, rubber, and lumbers that provided economic revenue, though modest (Jike,
V.T. 2004). However once oil was found in 1956 and Independence in 1960, Nigeriahas not only
relinquished vast tracts of land to International Oil Companies (IOC) such as Royal Dutch Shell
(later named Shell PetroleumDevelopment Company), ExxonMobil, Chevron Texaco, and ENI,
but it has left the companies to conduct their extraction methods as they see fit (Imobighe, T. A.
(n.d.); Kadafa, A.A. 2012). In 2006, the Oil Spill Intelligence Report stated, Shell Nigeria is
accused of using double standards , referring to the outdated equipment and unethical methods
Shell practices. The Niger Delta has experienced 50 years of oil spills since the beginning of oil
production due to oil pipelines that are no longer in use leaking up to $10 million worth of oil a
day as reported by Shell. Shell has thus been accused of using outdated and old equipment in the
Delta they know they wouldn t dare use in the other countries they operate in. A New York Times
article from September in 2013 wrote the eye catching headline,

Voltaire s Candide and Moliere s Tartuffe
Introduction
The Enlightenment brought about a brand new way of thinking. The traditional, conservative
mannerisms displayed by the church were slowly losing popularity amongst its citizens. The
introduction of reason, knowledge, and rationality were beginning to take center stage of the time.
However, the power of the church was intact. Quite knowingly, much power presents the threat of
corruption and desolation in any situation. Both Moliere and Voltaireutilize strikingly similar
characters throughout their adventures in the form of Candide and Orgon. Both characters have
exhibited similar levels of gullibility, wealth, and overall good outcomes despite hardships that they
face.
Naivety
Tartuffes Orgon is probably one of the most naГЇve characters to have graced a play. His never
ending belief that Tartuffe is some God among men is ridiculous. Orgon believes that Tartuffe is
actually, no loftier soul since time began (Moliere 114). His son did not even have a chance to
reverse the way he felt about Tartuffe. After pleading Orgon to come to his senses, Orgon
immediately shuns and scours Damis for trying to falsify Tartuffe s divine nature. He responds
to his son with Ah, you deceitful boy, how dare you try to stain his purity with so foul a lie?
(Moliere 134). Candide is just as, if not more stubborn in the way that he is not willing or capable
to think for himself, but rather rely on the philosophical expertise of Pangloss in order to make
decisions or

Compare And Contrast The Challenges Of Becoming A Military...
Challenges: At my age it was definitely a good learning experience. Being able to adapt to a
paramilitary style of training has been my greatest challenge. At times, when adapting to the
traditional ways of the academy has taken me out of my comfort. Not having prior military
background and coming from private sector has been an eye opening experience for me. Biggest
strength: Desire and determination to succeed, being resourceful, follow through any assignments
or projects, trustworthy and being 100 % committed to service. I expected to learn and gain
knowledge, and there is a great deal of information to take in which is more than I expected. The
course structure has been tremendously beneficial for my learning. The teaching style is

  • 2. Life Is A Avoidance Of Life Regardless how hard we try to escape the difficulties of life, life is never easy. For instance, when a parent s expectation becomes too much for their child to handle, their child will be conflicted with these expectations and will feel like a disappointment. In the book, Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, a young man named Chris McCandless escapes society and his family s problems by deciding to live life on the road. McCandless came from a well off family and had a natural talent for everything he did, but he had a bad relationship with his father due to his father being unfaithful to his mother. McCandless s relationship with his father was the problem that drove him to live life on the road. To McCandless and Krakauer life on the road meant going into the wild, therefore life on the road can be defined as going into the wild. Although life on the road allows people to find themselves, it is nothing more than an avoidance of life s problems. Many young people carry out activities they enjoy to discover or find themselves. Life on the road brought peace to McCandless. McCandless went on the road in his early twenties. McCandless decided, after exploring in the west of the U.S, to go on an Alaska odyssey where he would eventually die of starvation. One of his last acts before McCandless lost his life was taking a picture of himself, But if he pitied himself in those last difficult hours because he was so young, because he was alone, because his body had betrayed him and ... A widower and gentle father of two children, Scout and Jem, Atticus not only treats his family with fairness, but his friends and neighbors as well. An African American man in their community has been accused of a rape crime. Atticus feels strongly that the man s innocence will prevail. Since Atticus is a lawyer, he decides he must do the right thing. He must defend the accused. Known by many as a kind, impartial, and respectful man, Atticus earns a good name in his small community. No matter the person, Atticus always treated people with kindness. A neighbor of the Finchs, Mrs. Dubose, spoke harshly to Atticus as well as to his children, Jem and Scout. Instead of getting frustrated at Mrs. Dubose, he understood that she suffered from illness. Therefore, he chose to treat her with kindness. Easy does it, son, Atticus would say. She s an old lady and she s ill. You just hold your head high and be a gentleman. Whatever she says to you, it s your job not to let her make you mad. (133) Atticus rarely spoke in a harsh tone. The authors acknowledge past studies that show that bi gendered friend groups emerge with adolescent (Connolly, Furman Konarski, 2000; Dunphy 1969, etc), but the authors aim to delve into the specifics of different groups and individuals within those groups (2449). The Western as Commentary about Decaying Values Essay The Western as Commentary about Decaying Values The Western, as a genre, is subversive of the values that its Christian characters possess. Western films frequently depict social depravity in terms of the mythology that developed during westward expansion. The mythology was inspired by the threat of the frontier wilderness to Puritan culture. In order to preserve their society, some Puritans departed from their ideal Christian lives. Western films portray compromises that cultures make of the values that they define themselves by in order to protect the integrity of their other values. Baxter s threat, however, forces both men to evaluate their situation and to decide how to approach it. Boss and Charley both know that to take Button to the town s doctor mean that Baxter will try to kill them. They also know that, ethically and as his friends, they owe Button whatever help they can find, and so they decide to take the risk of visiting the doctor. According to the authors of our text Sensoy and DiAngelo, prejudice is a learned prejudgment about members of social groups to which we don t belong. Oppression is defined as prolonged cruel or unjust treatment ( Oppression par. 1) Women have experienced maltreatment since the Fall of Mankind. The subjection of women has decreased within the past two centuries, due to their natural rights being acknowledged. Over the years, people have protested the treatment of women through literature. Girl, Married Life, Punishment, and The Declaration of Sentiments shares the theme of women s oppression. Despite having the same themes, the authors use distinct social context and develop their arguments differently. Jamaica Kincaid, author of Girl, displays the unfair treatment of young women in Antiguan society. In the poem, a girl is receiving a lecture on how to be a woman. She is not encouraged to be herself or to gain an education. In fact, the mother continuously refers to her as a slut, the slut I know you are so bent on becoming (Kincaid 1146) The role of the Antiguan woman is that of homemaker. Berleant Schiller suggests, the domestic domain of women is sometimes implicitly regarded as inferior (Berleant Schiller 254). This technology allows for more effective tracking of products as they move throughout the supply chain, resulting in fewer lost goods and better security (Prance). Tracking products will also allow the company to see how many components and products are wasted. More information about their supply chains will allow companies to make more improvements to their logistics systems. Goods worth over $100 billion are returned to retailers in the United States annually. In fact, according to Devangshu Dutta, director of a supply chain solutions company, nearly 20% of everything that is sold in America is returned (Roy). In the past, companies would throw out most of these products. Now companies are beginning to realize the large losses they suffer because of these returned products. With reverse supply chains, companies can recycle, refurbish, or reuse products or components to save millions. Estee Lauder used to throw out almost $60 million worth of its products every year; after implementing reverse supply chain, the company has lowered its amount of destroyed products by almost half. The foreign key in another table will point to the primary key of a table, and this is how tables can relate to each other. This permits for one to one, one to many, and many to many relationship between the data. An advantage of relational databases includes the ease of adding or modifying new tables and entities without needing to change the structure of the database already in place. • 32. Importance of Childcare Background Checks Criminal Background Checks Childcare background checks have always been important for those hiring people to work particularly with children. But, the recent rise in child related crimes in the past decade has made this kind of check even more important, not only to people hiring childcare workers, but for anyone that will be providing care for a child in any way. This includes volunteers working with children in a public daycare center, church daycare center, home daycare center, and even for volunteers at summer camp. Parents have become much more protective over their children, and with good cause (Oliveri, 2008). Organizations that hire employees or volunteers are accountable for their actions and must make sure, as best they can, that the people representing them can be trusted with their clients. Employers should be well informed on the risk of failing to conduct screening checks of potential volunteers or employees, as they may be held legally and morally accountable through vicarious liability. Vicarious liability makes an organization accountable for the behavior of volunteers or employees under certain circumstances. The student walked away without a scratch on him due to the fact that he was wearing a seatbelt. That student was me. The act of putting your seat belt into the buckle of your seat takes a mere two seconds. Two seconds is obviously a small price to pay if the cost could potentially be your entire life. When drivers and passengers are involved in car accidents, they are more likely to survive if they are wearing a seatbelt. Seat belts save lives as well as they often prevent major injuries. When involved in a serious car accident, seat belts have proven to be effective in saving lives and preventing injury. When involved in a car accident, passengers in the car are subject to concussion, ejection, paralyzation, or even death. Seat belts strap a passenger into their seat in the car, this prevents ejection from the vehicle. 75% of people who are ejected from their vehicles die from impact or related injuries (CDC). This incredibly high statistic proves the effectiveness of seatbelts holding you into the car and preventing death by ejection. In addition to this, the US Department of Transportation states that 88.5% of people used seat belts in 2016 (US Department of Transportation). The Song Cherry Wine By Indie Rock Artist In the song Cherry Wine , written and performed by indie rock artist Hozier, it becomes apparent early on that this is not what one might consider a typical love song; nor is it about a typical woman. Although the acoustic guitar and softer melody paint a peaceful picture, the lyrics express that there is something much deeper that lies beneath its surface. From beginning to end, every verse about this woman and his relationship with her is a contradiction, which immediately sets the tone for the way he feels being with her: it s a battle. While most lovesongs are written in hopes of appealing to a wide audience, Hozier simply writes about the faults he has found in his own relationship and how, regardless, he can t seem to walk away. Although Hozier continuously professes his love for this woman throughout this song, there are still darker lyrics and elements that should be acknowledged as well. The second verse begins with this line: Calls of guilty fall on me/ All while she stains the sheets of some other. It s very clear in this lyric that this woman has continuously accused him of being unfaithful to her all while it is implied that she is the one who has been unfaithful. It is not just coincidence that, a few lines before, Hozier says It looks ugly, but it s clean. The omissions and transposing makes the play weaker, and while it is a great screenplay, it fails in comparison to Shakespeare s original work. The three things which bother me the most are the omission of Fortinbras and the handling of the, To be or not to be... soliloquy and the Get thee to a nunnery... scene, and Hamlet s Oedipus complex. I was pleasantly shocked at the performance, especially the scene where goes insane after finding out her father is dead. That is something else that greatly bothers me. I don t like the way Gibson was directed to play the scene in which he kills Polonius. He doesn t even play it like he cares that he did it. That also makes Hamlet seem like a man who does not have a mind. I read somewhere once that Gibson felt the same thing about the scene. Ian Holm gives a very fine performance as Polonius. Alan Bates also shines as Claudius. He gives such a fine performance in the role. I am not a big fan of Glenn Close, but she was wonderful as Queen Gertrude. However once oil was found in 1956 and Independence in 1960, Nigeriahas not only relinquished vast tracts of land to International Oil Companies (IOC) such as Royal Dutch Shell (later named Shell PetroleumDevelopment Company), ExxonMobil, Chevron Texaco, and ENI, but it has left the companies to conduct their extraction methods as they see fit (Imobighe, T. Orgon believes that Tartuffe is actually, no loftier soul since time began (Moliere 114). His son did not even have a chance to reverse the way he felt about Tartuffe. After pleading Orgon to come to his senses, Orgon immediately shuns and scours Damis for trying to falsify Tartuffe s divine nature. He responds to his son with Ah, you deceitful boy, how dare you try to stain his purity with so foul a lie? (Moliere 134). Candide is just as, if not more stubborn in the way that he is not willing or capable to think for himself, but rather rely on the philosophical expertise of Pangloss in order to make decisions or ...
