Background: To investigate clinic-pathological characteristics, hormonal receptors and HER2 receptor of male breast cancer. Materials and methods: Retrospective study of 10 cases between 2010 and 2013. The studied parameters were: tumor size, histological type, histological grade, lymph node status, hormonal status and overexpression of HER2. Results: The average age of our patients was 60.2 years, in 70% of cases; the histological size that was found was T4; and infiltrating ductal carcinoma was diagnosed in all cases. The grades classification was as follow: grade 2 (30%) and grade 3 (70%). 70% of cases had lymph node metastasis. Estrogen and progesterone receptors (ER,PR) were positive in 60% of tumors. Overexpression of HER2 was positive (Score3) in one case. Luminal B was the most common subtype in our study.

If accepted into the study, participants between 30-65 years old with no prior cancer diagnosis will have their personal information kept confidential by staff members, and the study requires no financial contribution from those enrolled.

This study evaluated the performance of five clinical decision rules for identifying low bone mineral density (BMD) in 174 postmenopausal African American women. The decision rules had sensitivities between 65.57-83.61% and specificities between 53.85-78.85% for identifying women with low BMD. Positive predictive values ranged from 80.95-87.91% and negative predictive values ranged from 48.44-58.33%. The study found that the decision rules showed some usefulness in identifying low BMD in this population but that more research is needed to establish appropriate cut-points for African American women.

This study examined 51 patients who were diagnosed with atypical ductal hyperplasia (ADH) on breast biopsy and then underwent surgical excision. The study found that 17 patients (33%) had ductal carcinoma in situ or invasive cancer identified on final surgical pathology. Only the grade of atypia seen on the initial biopsy was found to significantly predict the finding of cancer on excision, with a higher grade of atypia correlating with a higher likelihood of cancer being present. Specifically, 75% of patients with marked atypia on biopsy were found to have cancer on excision, compared to 18% of patients with moderate atypia and 0% of patients with mild atypia. This study analyzed the incidence of gastric cancer and colorectal cancer in Iraq between 1965-2006 using data from over 2,000 patient cases. The results showed:
1) Gastric cancer was initially more common than colorectal cancer, but colorectal cancer rates increased significantly over time, surpassing gastric cancer by the 2000s.
2) Both cancers affected males more than females and were most common in the 50s-60s age range.
3) Earlier cancer stages (I and II) increased over time for both cancers, while later stages (III and IV) decreased, indicating improved diagnosis and treatment.
4) The changing incidence patterns mirror global trends and are likely due to

This study evaluated the performance of five clinical decision rules for identifying low bone mineral density (BMD) in 174 postmenopausal African American women. The decision rules had sensitivities between 65.57-83.61% and specificities between 53.85-78.85% for identifying women with low BMD. Positive predictive values ranged from 80.95-87.91% and negative predictive values ranged from 48.44-58.33%. The study found that the decision rules showed some usefulness in identifying low BMD in this population but that more research is needed to establish appropriate cut-points for African American women.

This study examined 51 patients who were diagnosed with atypical ductal hyperplasia (ADH) on breast biopsy and then underwent surgical excision. The study found that 17 patients (33%) had ductal carcinoma in situ or invasive cancer identified on final surgical pathology. Only the grade of atypia seen on the initial biopsy was found to significantly predict the finding of cancer on excision, with a higher grade of atypia correlating with a higher likelihood of cancer being present. Specifically, 75% of patients with marked atypia on biopsy were found to have cancer on excision, compared to 18% of patients with moderate atypia and 0% of patients with mild atypia. She is an Associate Professor at The Scripps Research Institute who has focused her research on understanding cancer progression and metastasis. She has developed preclinical models of breast cancer brain metastasis and discovered that tumor cells must survive in the brain vasculature for days before proliferating. This study analyzed 69 patients with both breast and thyroid cancer to investigate the timing and features of these cancers. Results found that thyroid cancer tended to develop later in life when associated with breast cancer, while breast cancer occurred earlier when associated with thyroid cancer. Significantly more patients experienced breast cancer first before thyroid cancer. Genetically, the cancers were less aggressive as no BRCA or BRAF mutations were found and Ki-67 expression and recurrence rates were low. While correlations between the cancers were seen, the specific mechanism allowing their dual development remains unclear due to some missing patient data limitations.

This study analyzed 54 breast carcinoma cases to correlate histopathological findings with estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) status and prognostic importance. Ductal carcinoma was the most common type observed in 92.6% of cases. Lymph node metastasis was found in 66% of cases. Most cases (54%) were histological grade II. A positive correlation was found between histological grade and ER, PR, HER2 status. Higher grades were more likely to be ER and PR negative. This document describes a study that evaluated patient care and outcomes for critically ill COVID-19 patients admitted to intensive care or high-care units in Africa. The study found that mortality for these patients was 54.7%, higher than global rates. Mortality was associated with limited critical care resources and increased organ dysfunction at admission. Factors like need for ventilation, multiple organ support, and vasopressor use predicted higher mortality, while HIV status did not. The results suggest African patients have worse outcomes due to resource constraints and highlight the need for early intervention and triage tools.
Survival Analysis of Determinants of Breast Cancer Patients at Hossana Queen ...
Breast cancer is one of the most severe diseases in the world and become the public’s ever day’s agenda in both developed and developing countries. The primary goal of this study was to identify the determinants of survival time of breast cancer patients at Hossana hospital, south Ethiopia. Kaplan-Meier estimation method and a new two-parameter probability distribution called hypertabastic are introduced to model the survival time of the data. A simulation study was carried out to evaluate the performance of the hypertabastic distribution in comparison with popular distribution with the help of R and SAS statistical software Packages. One-fourth (25%) of the total patients survived for only 2 days. 31(35.2%) were censored, and 55(62.5%) were died. Hypertabastic survival model was found to be best fitting to the breast cancer data and age, level of education, family history, breast problem before, High fat diet, child late age, early menarche, late menopause were significant risk factors for the death of breast cancer patients. Awareness has to be given for the society on causes of breast cancer and screening test and early detection policies for most risky groups has to be established.

This audit studied 583 breast cancer patient records from a Nigerian hospital between 2008-2012 to analyze management approaches and clinical factors. Most patients were middle-aged females presenting with invasive ductal carcinoma. Nearly three-quarters received combination treatment including neoadjuvant and adjuvant chemotherapy, though completion rates for treatment cycles were low. The study found breast cancer in Nigeria is still primarily managed through combination therapies but more efforts are needed for early detection, education, and improving socioeconomic factors to support treatment.

Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) provides means to characterize brain activations in response to behavior. However, cognitive neuroscience has been limited to group-level effects referring to the performance of specific tasks. To obtain the functional profile of elementary cognitive mechanisms, the combination of brain responses to many tasks is required. Yet, to date, both structural atlases and parcellation-based activations do not fully account for cognitive function and still present several limitations. Further, they do not adapt overall to individual characteristics. In this talk, I will give an account of deep-behavioral phenotyping strategies, namely data-driven methods in large task-fMRI datasets, to optimize functional brain-data collection and improve inference of effects-of-interest related to mental processes. Key to this approach is the employment of fast multi-functional paradigms rich on features that can be well parametrized and, consequently, facilitate the creation of psycho-physiological constructs to be modelled with imaging data. Particular emphasis will be given to music stimuli when studying high-order cognitive mechanisms, due to their ecological nature and quality to enable complex behavior compounded by discrete entities. I will also discuss how deep-behavioral phenotyping and individualized models applied to neuroimaging data can better account for the subject-specific organization of domain-general cognitive systems in the human brain. Finally, the accumulation of functional brain signatures brings the possibility to clarify relationships among tasks and create a univocal link between brain systems and mental functions through: (1) the development of ontologies proposing an organization of cognitive processes; and (2) brain-network taxonomies describing functional specialization. To this end, tools to improve commensurability in cognitive science are necessary, such as public repositories, ontology-based platforms and automated meta-analysis tools. I will thus discuss some brain-atlasing resources currently under development, and their applicability in cognitive as well as clinical neuroscience.

The nonlinear activation functions in these networks result in interesting nonlinear equivariant maps between simple representations, and motivate the key player of this talk: piecewise linear representation theory.

The binding of cosmological structures by massless topological defects
Assuming spherical symmetry and weak field, it is shown that if one solves the Poisson equation or the Einstein field
equations sourced by a topological defect, i.e. a singularity of a very specific form, the result is a localized gravitational
field capable of driving flat rotation (i.e. Keplerian circular orbits at a constant speed for all radii) of test masses on a thin
spherical shell without any underlying mass. Moreover, a large-scale structure which exploits this solution by assembling
concentrically a number of such topological defects can establish a flat stellar or galactic rotation curve, and can also deflect
light in the same manner as an equipotential (isothermal) sphere. Thus, the need for dark matter or modified gravity theory is
mitigated, at least in part.

- 3. Abstract Background: To investigate clinic-pathological characteristics, hormonal receptors and HER2 receptor of male breast cancer. Materials and methods: Retrospective study of 10 cases between 2010 and 2013. The studied parameters were: tumor size, histological type, histological grade, lymph node status, hormonal status and overexpression of HER2. Results: The average age of our patients was 60.2 years, in 70% of cases; the histological size that was found was T4; and infiltrating ductal carcinoma was diagnosed in all cases. The grades classification was as follow: grade 2 (30%) and grade 3 (70%). 70% of cases had lymph node metastasis. Estrogen and progesterone receptors (ER,PR) were positive in 60% of tumors. Overexpression of HER2 was positive (Score3) in one case. Luminal B was the most common subtype in our study.
