zerocarbonbritain2030 is a positive, realistic vision for a society without fossil fuels, grounded in the latest climate science. Produced by the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT), the report is the first fully integrated solution to climate change and energy security for Britain. It demonstrates that society and our quality of life could thrive, whilst keeping Britain’s net greenhouse gas emissions at zero.
This 12 minute presentation summarises the main conclusions of the report.
The presentation was originally recorded for the Conference of Youth delegation at COP16 in Cancun.

The Sustainable Energy Floor (SEF) is a fully recyclable pedestrian floor system which can be used in pavements and high footfall areas, such as sport arenas, airports, railway stations, shopping malls, and office and apartment blocks. SEF enables people to generate their own energy to illuminate the space around them, or the energy can be used to power local systems such as street lights and signing systems.
The first phase of the Auroville Smart Mini Grid project is now complete. The project was conceived and driven by Auroville Consulting and includes 122 kW of distributed rooftop solar energy systems. The solar PV systems are expected to reduce Auroville’s electricity consumption from the TANGEDCO grid by an average of 1,65,416 kWh per year. In addition to the rooftop solar systems, the project includes an energy storage system with a capacity of 50 kWh, 68 smart energy meters with remote reading facility and additions to the Auroville internal electricity distribution system. The Smart Mini Grid project aims to demonstrate that distributed and connected renewable energy generation and storage systems will be essential parts of a sustainable energy future. The project was lead by Auroville Consulting. Other Auroville units include Auroville Electrical Service, Sunlit Future, Aurinoco and Cynergy.
Energy 10 years ago, now and 10 years in the futureEMEX
Energy is often businesses’ second biggest spend after staff yet many aren’t aware of the technology available to help them maximise their energy efficiency and meet environmental goals. Understand from one of the UK’s leading gas and electricity suppliers how energy supply technology has changed over the years, what is available now, and what is coming in the future.
Removing carbon from the processes which are essential to our modern world will be one of our generation's defining challenges. Central to this goal will be the role of Energy Storage within our modern infrastructure. Energy storage will need to be placed at all parts in our infrastructure - both in front and behind the meter applications will be key. These diverse applications will need a portfolio of technologies to deliver services to a range of customers. In this talk we explore some innovation possibilities with a focus on (a) Li-ion roadmap and the role of digitisation, (b) Flow batteries for longer term storage and finally (c) Power2X technologies for Energy Reserve and Chemical Industry.

Case Study: Ensuring Security of Supply Through FlexibilityEMEX
Brexit poses many risks to solving the energy trilemma and has created even more uncertainty about what our future energy mix will look like. However, the benefits of flexibility and the role it has to play in balancing the grid is already very clear, and growth in this area will continue despite wider market volatility.
As this flexibility becomes crucial to maintaining security of supply, it is incumbent on big businesses to do their part and be more responsible in managing their energy consumption. Companies will differ in how they can reduce demand and shift consumption out of peak times, but there will be direct benefits for the businesses that embrace it – both savings on energy bills and additional financial incentives for supporting the grid.
In this session we will cover some of the schemes available for consumers with dynamic energy consumption, and the benefits of working with a supplier to integrate flexibility with procurement to ensure the best possible returns.
Commercial energy storage (battery) project opportunities v.2.2Michael Pon
There are small commercial energy storage opportunities in time-shifting energy that will be available because of the Tesla PowerPack and other fixed energy storage systems. This PG&E tariff analysis should be of interest to any renewable energy project developer or building/facilities energy management system project developer. The ideas discussed could apply nationwide in many electric utility service areas. These opportunities are economically accessible to commercial enterprises even without government incentives or combination with solar or wind generation.

The Water Industry is at the threshold of a profound transformation with smart operations slated to dominate the future. PROTEUS Consulting is defining Water-Energy Nexus 2.0 - beyond reduction of water and energy footprints by the respective industries, towards collaboration, solving common problems and attaining win-win solutions. We ensure consistent progress towards identification of technology and resources that will provide maximum return on investment to not only achieve energy efficiency, but also develop synergistic relationships between water and energy utilities towards a common goal of providing sustainable and fiscally responsible services to the communities they serve. While PROTEUS Consulting works to help municipal clients achieve benefits from traditional energy efficiency (EE) and Demand Response (DR) programs, we are currently working with CPUC, CEC, CalISO, CalEPA, and the IOUs to establish a groundbreaking program to allow water utilities leverage their flexibility in operations and capacity to help balance the grid (as a fast responding flexible load) and in turn receive a revenue stream that is independent of the volume of sales of water.

Time to step up performance-based energy efficiency measurement and verificat...Leonardo ENERGY
How can you know for sure the energy you’ve saved through your building renovation? The answer is that you can’t! But, by measuring energy consumption and taking account of other factors, such as the weather and building occupancy, you can make a much better estimate than by simply relying on installers’ claims of effectiveness. This is well understood in industry, where contracts for energy efficiency projects are routinely set up to reward energy service companies for the savings made, based on measurement and verification protocols such as IPMVP. This shifts much of the technical risk of underperformance onto the energy service contractor, aligning incentives and driving better performance. Policy makers in the US have begun to apply these principles to utility-delivered energy efficiency programmes in the buildings sector as part of efforts to drive up performance and provide better value for money for bill payers. The EU now has the opportunity to follow suit.

The objective of this work is to contribute to valorization de Nephelium lappaceum by the characterization of kinetics of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum. The seeds were dehydrated until a constant mass respectively in a drying oven and a microwawe oven. The temperatures and the powers of drying are respectively: 50, 60 and 70°C and 140, 280 and 420 W. The results show that the curves of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum do not present a phase of constant kinetics. The coefficients of diffusion vary between 2.09.10-8 to 2.98. 10-8m-2/s in the interval of 50°C at 70°C and between 4.83×10-07 at 9.04×10-07 m-8/s for the powers going of 140 W with 420 W the relation between Arrhenius and a value of energy of activation of 16.49 kJ. mol-1 expressed the effect of the temperature on effective diffusivity.

UNDERSTANDING WHAT GREEN WASHING IS!.pdfJulietMogola
Many companies today use green washing to lure the public into thinking they are conserving the environment but in real sense they are doing more harm. There have been such several cases from very big companies here in Kenya and also globally. This ranges from various sectors from manufacturing and goes to consumer products. Educating people on greenwashing will enable people to make better choices based on their analysis and not on what they see on marketing sites.
