2. 1. TAPE MEASURE – used to take body measurement.
2. MEASURING STICK – consisting of a strip of wood or metal or plastic with a straight edge
is used for drawing straight lines and measuring lengths.
3. SCISSORS – used to cut threads, trim seams and slash and cut buttonholes.
4. PINKING SHEARS – are scissors, the blades of which are saw-toothed instead of straight.
5. SEAM RIPPER – are specifically designed for ripping out stitches from seams, either as a
of an error or during alterations.
6. CARBON PAPER – thin paper with carbon or another pigmented substances, used for
copies of written or typed documents.
7. PATTERN PAPER – the paper from which patterns for garments are made.

3. 8. TAILOR’S CHALK - a thin flat piece of hard chalk or soapstone used by tailors and
seamstresses for making temporary marks on cloth.
9. NEEDLE – a sharp, pointed sewing tool.
10. THREAD – a long, thin strand of cotton, nylon or other fibers used in sewing or
weaving.
11. PINS – are used to hold fabric together prior to sewing. They temporarily hold the
fabric in place when attaching and cutting patterns or while sewing.
12. PIN CUSHION – a small cushion into which pins are stuck for convenient storage.
13. EMERY BAG – a small bag, often the size and shape of strawberry, filled with emery
powder used to keep needles and pins clean of rust.
14. THIMBLE – a metal cap with a closed end worn to protect the finger and push the
needle in sewing.
15. TRACING WHEEL – it is used to transfer markings from sewing patterns onto fabric
with or without the use for tracing paper.
