• There are three
essential factors
for fire.
• Oxygen.
• Heat.
• Fuel.

• The new standard colour for all fire extinguishers
is red.
• Which could lead to confusion and injury if care is
not taken when an extinguisher is being used.
• The content of each extinguisher is
indicated by a contrasting colour band on
the cylinder. The colour of the
contrasting panel will be the same as the
colours on the old extinguishers.

PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY
• Operatives who have been trained in the use of fire
extinguishers may be confident to fight a fire with
the extinguishers available on site. In doing so they
must.
• Not put themselves or anyone at risk.
• Ensure that they always have an escape route
available.

PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY
All operatives should be aware of :
• The warning signals used to indicate that a site
evacuation is taking place.
• The routine for testing of the evacuation signal.
• The location of the assemble point to which they
report to, larger sites may have more than one.

• Potentially harmful substances.

• Cement, brick and stone dust.
• Tile and plaster dust.
• Paint, varnish, lacquers,and
adhesives.

• Wood dust, fibre glass, and resins.
• Solvents, fuels, and oils.
• Spirits, thinners, acids, and

• All hazardous substances are covered by COSHH-
control of substances hazardous to health
• NOTE* that asbestos and lead have there own set of
regulations and are not covered by the COSHH
regulations

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
• Personal Protective Equipment is known as PPE- this is to be supplied by your
employer
• It is an offence under the Act to misuse or interfere with equipment provided
for your health and safety or that of others.
• Your employer also has a duty to ensure that the safety equipment provided is
kept in good condition, but they cannot cater for human error or negligence
• Gloves, overalls, goggles, aprons, boots, leggings, dust masks, respirators, ear
defenders, etc.
• According to work being done.

  • 2. ELECTRICITY • Electricity. • Electric shock is a major hazard. • 240 volts is often enough to kill people. • This is why 110 volts is usually used on site. • The colour of 110v cables onsite are yellow PRACTICE PLUMBING EXAMS ©

  • 6. MACHINERY • You must be competent to operate any machinery or be under supervision. • To be competent one must be. • Authorised. • Experienced. • Trained. PRACTICE PLUMBING EXAMS ©
  • 7. MACHINERY • Unless you are adequately supervised or deemed competent. • You shall not operate self-propelled construction plant. • You shall not act as a signaller/banksman for lifting operations. PRACTICE PLUMBING EXAMS ©

FIRE • The new standard colour for all fire extinguishers is red. • Which could lead to confusion and injury if care is not taken when an extinguisher is being used. • The content of each extinguisher is indicated by a contrasting colour band on the cylinder. PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY All operatives should be aware of : • The warning signals used to indicate that a site evacuation is taking place. • The routine for testing of the evacuation signal. • The location of the assemble point to which they report to, larger sites may have more than one. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT • Personal Protective Equipment is known as PPE- this is to be supplied by your employer • It is an offence under the Act to misuse or interfere with equipment provided for your health and safety or that of others. • Your employer also has a duty to ensure that the safety equipment provided is kept in good condition, but they cannot cater for human error or negligence • Gloves, overalls, goggles, aprons, boots, leggings, dust masks, respirators, ear defenders, etc. • According to work being done.
