SITE INDUCTION
Introduction
• This induction is based on the preliminary safety statement and in
accordance with the PSDP and PSCS.
• It is in accordance with the following:
 Safety, Health and Welfare Act 2005
 Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) 2007-2016
 Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Construction) Regulations 2013
 The Code of Practice for Management of Fire Safety in Places of Assembly,
Department of Environment 1989
 Fire Safety in Places of Assembly (Ease of Escape) Regulations, Department
of the Environment 1985
Introduction
• All contractors/crew on site must complete the induction prior to starting any
work on site.
• After the induction, all inducted must sign to say they have completed the
induction and understand all topics covered
• In the case of on line, there will be an electronic sign in
• This induction training is for your safety, the safety of your co-workers and the
safety of others that could be affected by your actions.
Event Details
• The World Meeting of Families, Solemn Eucharistic Celebration will be held on
Sunday the 26th August in Phoenix Park.
• The event has a maximum capacity of 600,000 people.
•Travelling from all over the country via bus/car/train and some from abroad.
• Doors open at 8am on the 26th August
•Mass begins at 3pm
•Mass finishes at 5pm

General Welfare
• Location of toilets are marked on site maps.
• Water for those employed onsite is the responsibility of the
Contractor
• Please wear clothing that is appropriate to the weather
conditions
• No Catering on site.
Work happening on site
i.e. Hazards to be aware of.
•Fencing and other work requiring vehicle movement
• installation of sound and lighting equipment
• Scaffolding
• Rigging and work at height
• Use of cranes and lifting equipment
• Electrical works
• Erection of marquees and other temporary structures.
Vehicle Rules
• Hi Vis is to be worn at all times when in vehicle
• The on site driving speed limit by all vehicles is 20km/h. This includes Trucks,
Cars, Machinery, Forks, Buggies etc.
•Seatbelts must be worn by all onsite vehicle drivers and passengers.
•Mobile Phones are not permitted while driving without the use of a hand free
kit
•The use a 2 way radio is not permitted while driving
•Please take extra precautions when driving as there is public access in the
surrounding area of Phoenix Park
•Hazard lights are only to be used as needed.
Site Rules
• In order to use the following equipment, the operator must have demonstrated (ticket
or licence) the correct training and competency:
 Forklifts
 Teleporters
 MEWP
 Scanning Equipment
• All persons must first have demonstrated their competence by production of a valid
certificate of training.
• All tools and equipment to be kept in good working order and only to be used for the
purpose for which they were intended, any defects in tools or equipment should be
reported to your supervisor immediately.
• All equipment and tools not in use must be safely and securely stored so that they may
only be accessed by authorised persons and do not pose any danger to other workers
or members of the public.
Site Rules
•There will be no eating on site except in designated areas.
• Smoking on site will be in designated areas only.
•Rubbish will be disposed of appropriately by individuals
•Contracts must dispose of their waste
•Pay particular attention to banding and ensure that it is not
left on the ground
Incase of Emergency/Major Incident
• All walkways, access points, stairways and emergency
exits to be free from obstruction at all times.
• All workers to be familiar with procedures to be followed
in the event of an emergency or major incident.
• All incidents resulting in injury and any near misses or
conditions that may be detrimental to the health, safety
and welfare of any person to be reported to your
supervisor or the Site Health and Safety Coordinator as
soon as reasonably practicable.
Site Rules
• No access to site without permission – All must sign in at site office.
• No Access to site without basic Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on,
Hi-vis Vest, Steel capped boots and hard hat.
• All contractors are required to supply the staff/crew with PPE that is
appropriate to the works being carried out and in accordance with the
contractor R.A.M.S
Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)
The following is the required minimum PPE and must be worn at all times:
• High Visibility Jacket – (Must be clean)
• Protective steel toe capped webbed boots (Not Rigger Boots)
•Hard Hat in designated hard hat areas
• Safety Glasses/Goggles
•Gloves
•Ear Defenders
•Harnesses for work at height
Failure to wear appropriate PPE will result in removal from site.
Where a harness is required, the contractor must have a rescue plan and the designated rescue personnel must be in
place at all times. Work at height must never be carried out alone.
Tickets needed on site

•CSCS (As Appropriate)
• Must be presented in advance of work starting
• You are required to work safely and use plant and equipment
correctly. This is your responsibility.
• Only trained competent and authorised personnel can operate plant
e.g. forklifts, MEWPS.
• Manual handling tasks: staff are required to have undergone a
manual handling training course in the previous 3 years.
MEWPs and Forklifts
•All lifting equipment to be accompanied by current certificate of inspection
or be subject to a provable audit trail.
•A plant checklist will be obtained when machinery arrives on site
• All drivers will have to fill out a checklist before driving machinery each day
as to its working condition.
• Maximum load for all machinery must be recognised.
• Extra precaution is to be taken on site when driving with a load as some
vision points are blocked.
Emergency Exits and Assembly Points

Incase of Fire
•Raise the alarm
•Alert a Supervisor or contact Site/Event Control
•Evacuate the area
•Contact the Fire Brigade
•Assemble at your assigned assembly point
•Only fight a fire if it is safe to do so.
Safety Signage
RED – You must NOT do (Prohibition) BLUE – You must do (Mandatory)
GREEN – Safest way (e.g.: to First Aid, Exits) YELLOW – Warns of hazard (Warning)
Working at height
• Risk Assess: Address the risk from overhead hazards and other equipment.
• Where the risk assessment requires the use of fall arrest equipment it must be used in accordance
with a safe system of work including emergency rescue procedures.
• Use secure platforms with proper edge protection such as middle bars and toe boards where
suitable.
• Protect holes, leading edges and fragile materials
• Consider weather conditions
• Scaffolding must be erected and dismantled by trained operatives only.
• Manufacturers build guide must be followed when erecting alloy towers and system scaffolds.
• Address the risk from overhead hazards and other equipment.
• Use the safest access equipment for the job, (not the most convenient).
Ladders
Only use a ladder:
• Where work is for a short duration. Not more than 30mins
• Where there is low risk. Fall is unlikely or unlikely to cause injury.
• For ‘light work’.
• For work not involving carrying heavy or awkward tools or
equipment
• Where a handhold is available.
• Where three points of contact are available at all times.
• Located on a firm level base and only used for short duration
light duty.
• Keep your knees below the top tread when working on a
stepladder.
• All ladder use must comply with the HAS ‘Using Ladders Safely’
information sheet available at (insert URL here)
Do Not: Overload
or Overreach!
Manual Handling
• Know your own lifting ability.
• Do NOT attempt to carry anything that is too
big or too heavy
• If manual handling duties are part of a role,
staff require a manual handling course to be
completed in the last 3 years
Noise levels
•On construction sites the noise level is likely to reach high levels.
•All contractors must make available or supply their crew with appropriate, properly fitting,
individual hearing protectors which comply with the relevant statutory provisions in accordance
with regulation
First Aid
• The on site medic name and contact
information will be displayed daily at
main offices and main workers areas
each day.
•In the event of an accident:
Render First Aid only if qualified
Seek assistance
Stay with injured party
Report the accident to supervisor and health
and safety
Weils Disease
• An acute, infectious disease spread by infected animal urine in
contaminated soil or water.
• The infection enters through broken, grazed or cut skin especially on the
hands and feet and sometimes through the lining of the mouth, nose
and eyes.
• Symptoms may include fever, headaches, chills, severe muscle pain in
the calves and thighs, vomiting, diarrhoea and bloodshot eyes.
• Adhere to a rigid hygiene policy.
• Cover all cuts, scratches and abrasions with a waterproof dressing.
• Wear protective clothing especially gloves when handling soil,
vegetation, animal feeds, tools or equipment that may be contaminated.
• Avoid touching mouth and nose.
• Food should not be consumed in the work area
Lyme Disease
• Lyme disease is a bacterial infection that is spread to human by infected ticks. Ticks are small,
spider-shaped creatures that feed on the blood of mammals, including humans.
• Can be present in mice, voles, blackbirds, pheasants, and deer.
• The most common symptom of Lyme disease is a red skin rash that looks similar to a bull's eye
on a dart board.
• However, if Lyme disease is left untreated, further symptoms can follow including:
 a high temperature (fever) of 38ºC (100.4ºF) or higher
 muscle pain
 joint pain and swelling
 neurological symptoms, such as temporary paralysis of the facial muscles
Appropriate behaviour at work
• Current Health and Safety Legislation gives us all a responsibility to work safely and not to put
each other at risk.
• Please act responsibly towards your fellow workers.
• “Unwanted Conduct” towards any persons will not be tolerated. This includes: All
behaviour/language/actions that reinforces inappropriate, demeaning or discriminatory
attitudes or assumptions about persons based on gender, civil status, family status, sexual
orientation, age, disability, race, religious belief and membership of the Traveller Community.
• Any person caught in possession of or under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be removed
from site.
• If you are on drugs for any medical reason, please inform your supervisor.
Reporting
• Please report any on-site accidents/ dangerous occurrences/ near
misses to your supervisor.
• It is for your benefit as well as others.
• For any accident you will need to make an entry in the accident
book –
• If you require time off work due to any injury, you must inform
your supervisor.
Weather
• The Site manager reserves the right to restrict or
prohibit vehicles from any areas in the event of
inclement weather conditions.
•A daily weather report will be checked to ensure crew
safety
•Wet weather during break or build may result in
restrictions or schedule change if it persists/
Sun Protection
• The main cause of skin cancer is
ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun.
• Sun Smart Code
1. Seek some shade where possible
2. Wear long sleeved T-shirt and Trousers
3. Wear sunglasses
4. Use high factor (minimum factor 30) sun
screen and re-apply during the day
5. Know the UV index
Sun Protection
• Skin Cancer is the most common form of Human Cancer. Unfortunately the
annual rates of both melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers are
increasing steadily in Ireland. Most skin cancers are entirely avoidable
• Limit duration of exposure if possible when UV index is high (3 or above), do indoor
work if possible
• Give information to employees about dangers of sun exposure
• Encourage employees to cover up, keep clothing on with sleeves down and collars
up, wear clothing with high ultraviolet protection factor (UPF), 30 or more, wear hat
• Note: Supa-trac can cause sun reflection that can be damaging to eyes and cause
burn. Wear sunglasses where needed.
