1.
2. - are dangerous conditions or
events that result in potential injury, loss of life,
and damage to property,agriculture,or
environment.
Hazards can be classified into two:natural and
man- made hazards.
3. Natural Hazards
Natural Hazards are hazards that ara naturally occuring
and caused either by the rapid or slow onset of
geophysical,hydrological,meteorological,
and climatological events.
4. • Floods
Floods happen when water covers areas or
places that are normally dry.Floods occur due to
prolonged or heavy rainfall,severe
thunderstorm,monsoons,or tropoccal cyclones.
5. • Before the flood, you need to identify the local risks in your community.
• Always prepare an emergency kit(portable radio,candles,waterproof
matches, fresh water, and first aid kit)and an evacuation strategy.
• Prepare important records and keep them within reach.
• Listen to your local radionews station for an infofrmation about the flood.
• Protect valuables by moving them to high and elevated places.
• Turn off the main switch for electricty, water and gas tank.Take your cellular
phones with you in case you need to make an emergency call.
6. • Severe Storm
Storm is the atmospheric disturbance
characterized by strong winds together with
rain, snow,or other forms of precipitation. It is
primarily caused by the wind system affected by the
rotation of the earth.Severe storm causes flash
flood,destroy the environemnt,damages

flooded streams.
8. • Tsunami
It is a large ocean wave due to underwater earthquakeor
volcanic wave.It is usually caused by any large ,impulsive
displacement of the sea leve.Earthquake and landslide may
also trigger atsunami.
Some of the devastating effetcs of tsunami are loss of life
and destruction of properties. The force of wave leads to
coastal erosion that wears away coastal land and beaches,
and destroys buildings,bridges,cars,trees,and electical wires.
9. 1. Watch out for warning signs of a tsunami.

heading outside to make sure that there are no more
approaching waves following the first wave.
10. • Earthquake
An earthquake is a sudden shaking or rolling of the earth’s
surface. It occurs due to plate movement or volcanic activity.Human
activities such as unclear explosion, mining, and quarrying can also
trigger an earthquake. The intensity of earthquake can be measured
by an seismograph,a device used to detect and measure seismic
waves generated by a volcano. The point of origin of movement is
called focus or hypocenter while the point above the focus is known
as epicenter. The most frightening about an earthquake that it
happens without a warning.IT would be very hard to protect people
and property from an earthquake destruction.
11. • Stay away from the windowa, mirrors, and other objects that may fall like a wall

• Do not use an elevator or stay alone inside a closed area.
• If you are outdoors, stay away from electric poles, buildings, and trees.
• Turn off the power suply to avoid electrocution and fire.
• Prepare for a series of after shocks following the initial earthquake.
• If you are in an earthquake prone area,be particular in fixing ffurnitures and
appliances.
12. • Volcanic Eruption
Volcanoes are landform that are shaped by rising
of molten rocls inside the earth’s
surface.TRememdous heat and pressure cause the
volcano to expelmolten rocks. When a volcano
erupts, molten rocks beneath the earth’s surface
,known as magma, rise due to temperature and
pressur.Magma contains crystals,fragments of rocks
and glasses.
13. 1. Prepare an emergency kit that contains flashlight, first aid
materias,batteries,nonperishable food,and medicines.
