Adding salt to water initially forms a solution, but adding more salt will eventually lead to saturation, where no more salt can dissolve. To determine how much salt saturates 50 mL of water, students made saturated salt solutions by adding salt spoonful by spoonful until no more would dissolve. They then filtered the solutions, balanced them with plain water on a scale, and added weights to the water side until balance, determining the mass of dissolved salt. The experiment shows there is a limit to how much salt can dissolve in water.
The document describes an investigation to determine where water goes when something dries. Students placed wet paper towels in open and closed cups to observe the drying process. They found that the paper towel in the open cup dried out as the water evaporated into the surrounding air. However, the towel in the closed cup remained wet since the water could not escape and evaporate. Evaporation is the process where liquid water changes into an invisible water vapor gas.
A food chain describes how organisms transfer energy by consuming other organisms. Plants are producers that make their own food through photosynthesis, using raw materials like carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight. Herbivores eat plants, and carnivores eat herbivores and other carnivores, playing the role of consumers in the ecosystem. All cells require energy from food, with plants making their own through photosynthesis and animals obtaining food by consuming other organisms.
ConnectJS 2015: Video Killed the Telephone StarMojo Lingo
When you want to talk to someone, where do you turn? Skype? Slack or HipChat? Maybe even an old-fashioned telephone? As great (or not) as these are, they all fail in one important way: Context. As developers, why don’t we enable our users to communicate where they are doing everything else, right inside the browser or mobile app The technology to create contextual communications is evolving quickly with exciting technologies like WebRTC. This talk is about how to use WebRTC with Rails to enhance almost any application with voice, video & text. We will cover some of the ways communications can be best employed, including design considerations, as well as available Open Source projects. We will feature a recently released Rails Engine called Talking Stick that makes adding WebRTC to any Rails app a snap.
This document provides an overview of the 5th grade curriculum and programs at Garden Gate Elementary for the upcoming school year. It includes introductions of the teaching staff, an agenda for the evening, and details about core subjects like language arts, reading, math, science and social studies. It also outlines extracurricular activities, homework policies, communication methods and opportunities for parents to volunteer.
This document provides an overview of key topics to review for a living systems exam, including the main human body systems, pathways of nutrients and waste, photosynthesis and cellular respiration, vascular plants, and a science notebook assignment. Specifically, it outlines reviewing the digestive, respiratory, circulatory, and excretory systems; how nutrients and gases move through the body; the definition and purpose of sugars and sap; how energy transfers from the sun to plants and animals; the process of cellular respiration; plant transport systems and leaf classification; and completing review questions, lab activities, and vocabulary in a science notebook.
The document describes two experiments that investigate factors that affect the rate of evaporation. The first experiment tests whether location affects evaporation by placing wet paper towels in different locations and measuring how quickly they dry. The second experiment tests whether surface area affects evaporation by evaporating water from containers of different shapes and sizes and measuring the evaporation rate from each. The experiments aim to determine whether location and surface area are variables that influence the evaporation rate and to identify the relationship between these variables and evaporation.
Scientists can classify leaves into three main categories based on the pattern of veins: palmate, pinnate, and parallel. Palmate leaves have several large veins extending from the point where the leaf stem attaches. Pinnate leaves have one large central vein with smaller veins branching off on either side. Parallel leaves have many small veins running the length of the leaf uniformly. Students are instructed to collect leaves from different plants and sort them into these three categories based on their vein patterns.

This document shares the story of Esther Teunissen and her company C7 DNA. It discusses their success in selling over 3000 books and gaining over 200 new fans per month through blogging and social media marketing. Their pinball story has allowed them to donate over 6500 euro to charity and host over 100 people per year at their headquarters while maintaining freedom like blogging in their underwear. They emphasize chasing visions over money and putting effort into followers through passion and care.
This document summarizes Stefan Wobben's presentation on developing a creative mindset. The presentation discusses how positive change is a result of both mindset and tools. It encourages being positive, wondering why, going out and playing, doing scary things, giving a crap, and saying "yes" instead of "but." Sketching and coming up with lots of ideas are presented as tools to spark creativity. The audience then engages in an exercise where they sketch ideas to address challenges and vote on the best concepts. The goal is to have fun generating ideas and refining them into 2-minute pitches.
This document discusses persuasion tactics and techniques. It outlines two routes to influence - the central route using logical consideration and potential attitude change, and the peripheral route using superficial qualities and temporary behavior change. It also discusses how humans are social beings and persuasion aims to change attitudes or behaviors without coercion or deception. A number of principles of persuasion design are listed, such as reduction, tunneling, tailoring, and using authority, reciprocity, scarcity, and consistency. The document questions whether persuasion techniques can go too far and notes that all design has some persuasive elements and ethics depend on the designer's intentions.
The document discusses designing for customers by brainstorming ideas to increase ticket sales on a cinema website. It encourages generating many ideas through sketching and visualization, sharing ideas early, and using principles of divergent and convergent thinking. Ideas should follow design principles related to the cinema's brand of being about Hollywood entertainment in a simple way. Brainstorming rules include that there are no bad ideas, focusing on the challenge, maintaining momentum, and sharing ideas visually.
