An antagonist can be defined as someone or something that is put in the story to
oppose the protagonist or to cause problems that need to be overcome. Throughout
the story, every character in one way or another causes problems, as the story
emphasizes that nobody is perfect. The Orangedrink Lemondrink man could be an
antagonist as he causes Estha great emotional turmoil and traumatizes him. Ammu
and Velutha could be antagonists because if they hadn t had the affair then maybe
Velutha wouldn t be dead and the children wouldn t have been separated and
maybe, just maybe, Sophie Mol wouldn t have drowned in the river. Chacko could
also be an antagonist as he kicks Ammu out of the house which eventually results in
the separation of the twins. However, one character, in particular, Baby Kochamma,
in every part of the story, not only does she cause problems, she causes problems for
everyone. Baby Kochamma causes problems for Rahel and Estha, for Ammu, for
Velutha, for the police, and even makes Chacko more miserable and angry, eventually
leading him to force Ammu to leave. Baby Kochamma continually manipulates the
characters in the story into doing what she wants to get herself out of trouble.

New World sparked intrigued me and sparked my imagination. Why I have been so
absorbed in this letter I can not explain. This letter is supposed to be about describing

seems that there is more to it than that. Columbus is known in elementary schools as
the man who found the New World, and is regarded as a hero. To the contrary,
historians who have done more research on Columbus say that he was driven by

and queen without mentioning Spain s beauty. So, as unnecessary as it may seem to
me to describe these islands in relation to Spain, Columbus may have been using a
bit of tactic behind his seemingly innocent poetry. In trying to save himself from
seeming treasonous, Columbus had to use a little poetry to compare the New World
to Spain. In the quote, the place Columbus was describing seems divine and majestic,
almost like heaven, but then he just relates all this beauty to Spain in the month of
May. Is Spain really that beautiful in the month of May, or is Columbus just trying to
make the monarchs believe that Spain is just as majestic and divine. This line alone,
seemingly insignificant, may have dampened Columbus s description of the New

swollen feet and ankles. Maintaining a normal quality of life becomes difficult with
trips to dialysis centers three times per week. Such is the life of those suffering from
chronic kidneydisease (CKD). This disease affects more than 10% of American adults
and is the ninth leading cause of death in the United States. One of the most common
comorbidities seen in these patients is secondary hyperparathyroidism, which affects
more than 69% of those patients with stage three and four chronic kidney disease
(CDC, 2014). Hyperparathyroidism further decreases the quality of life of CKD
patients by putting them at a greater risk for osteodystrophies, such as osteomalacia
and osteitis fibrosa. Current treatments focus on reducing parathyroid hormoneand
phosphorus, while increasing serum calcium levels. Future research should look at
prophylactic and non pharmacologic treatment options, as these are currently difficult
to find. This paper further explores current treatments for secondary
hyperparathyroidism and discusses the potential for future interventions.

I think the best way to go about teaching history is to try to approach each
historical event with objectivity and skepticism. This process described by
Haskell allows you to teach your students the value of listening to other people s
