Summary of Plot There are a variety of films that entail child abuse and neglect experiences. The
film "Precious" is a great example of someone experiencing abuse and neglect. It focuses on the life
of an African American female named Precious whose life involves various types of abuse. Precious
is a young, overweight, African American female living with her abusive mother who does nothing
but watch television and collect welfare through fraud. Precious is also a young teen mother to two
children who were conceived through rape by her biological father. Due to being sexually abused by
her biological father, Precious' mother resented her and blamed for the sexual abuse, which resulted
in her becoming physically and verbally abusive towards Precious. She has never had a support
system aside from her mother, who has lived to belittle and abuse her. Precious is an illiterate
sixteen–year–old who had difficulties in school, thus resulting in her being referred to attend an
alternative school. However, her mother believed that having an education was not important and
wanted Precious to focus on collecting welfare in order to bring more money into their home. Due to

For this week reflection I would like to talk about the October 11th cover of a French magazine, les
Inrockuptibles. On this cover, you can see the picture of a 1980s, well known male French singer
who is to talk about his upcoming solo album. What is shocking to me, is that this man is also
famous for killing his companion, a woman named Marie Trintignan with his bare hands thirteen
years ago. One may think that he went in jail for it and that he paid his due to the society. I believe
there is more than that in this cover story. When this magazine is deciding to put Bertrand Cantat on
his cover, I see it as a symbol of the oppression that men still have over women. This oppression is
here physical abuse but also I see oppression in the way the information is treated. The semantic the
journalist used translated a sort of understanding and compassion for his act. I believe that there is a
cultural piece that needed to be added to that. It is very French this notion of passion. A passionate

group member in some capacity. When a person whom is perceived as belonging to one's in–group
is victimized, one's perception of the just–world is more likely to be threatened (Correia & Vala,

Joyce Oates wrote the popular story "Where Are You going, Where Have You Been?" that features a
powerful message about the relationships between sexual predators and their victims. By writing
this story, Oates brings awareness to an important issue: child sexual abuse. A research article
written by Margareta Hallberg and E.M. Rigne states that "sexual relations between children and
adults is an issue that has been and continues to be problematic in all types of societies" (141). The
main character is a 15–year–old girl named Connie who forms a fascination with an older guy who
is referred to as Arnold Friend. At the beginning of the story, she meets him while out with some
friends and he said to her, "Gonna get you, baby" (Oates 206). All throughout her summer, she
dreams of him and the times they could share together. Little does she know, Arnold Friend is
keeping tabs on her and her family, with the hope and intent to eventually kidnap and abuse her as
the story reveals. By the end of the story, he and his friend are at her house ready to make a move,
and Connie's response is a pivotal part of the story's plot line. By giving insight of the psychological
impact and thought process of sexual abuse victims and their predators, Oates creates a story that
accurately portrays the response and actions of a victim and a predator in this context. Through

Psychological And Emotional Effects Of Psychological Abuse
Psychological abuse, which includes verbal and emotional abuse, is a widespread and common
problem in our society. Mary Jo Fay (2007), states that verbal abuse, "includes name–calling,
shouting and yelling." She also goes on to say that emotional abuse: includes blaming, accusing and
restricting your freedom – like preventing you from using the phone or talking to family members,

Woman stay in in abusive relationships for a variety of reason, some are strictly economic and some
woman feel they can't survive in the world on their own (Ford, 2001, pg. 39). We as women fear the
shame from society, the courts, and even our own families. In 2008, my abusive relationship came to

In the documentary I witness a young boy named Larry King been a subject of bullying for being
gay. First, I will examine the concept of bullying. Next I will discuss about hate crime and how this

aggression. "Bullying is the intentional infliction of injury or discomfort on another person

Rape culture is defined as "a culture in which dominant cultural ideologies, media images, social
practices, and societal institutions support and condone sexual abuse by normalizing, trivializing and
eroticizing male violence against women and blaming victims for their own abuse" (Kacmarek,
2014). Victim blame is present in just about any kind of assault case, but we will look at two cases
of idolized men assaulting women. When women come forward with sexual assault allegations, the
media's response is to frame the people involved. The victim is framed by sexualizing, describing
their state during the attack, or assume they are just seeking attention. The suspect is framed as a
playboy, sociopath, or a monster.
The domestic violence case of Rihanna and Chris Brown (2009) is an interesting case of victim
blaming because at first, everyone supported Rihanna and held Brown accountable for his actions.

This article is so important. It talks about how important it is for people to stop blaming the victim.
It isn't fair to blame the victim and by now we should know better. For some reason sexual violence
and victim blaming go hand in hand. Society tells us that a person who is sexually assaulted is partly
or fully to blame for what happened to them. The article talks about how phrases like "she was
asking for it" shift blame back to the victim of the attack. We are judged in society for the way we
dress and act and we are told that that could bring negative attention to us. They teach us techniques
telling us to always "watch your drink", "don't be alone at night", and "don't drink too much". The
