Digital Commerce Lecture for Advanced Digital & Social Media Strategy at UCLA...Valters Lauzums
E-commerce in 2024 is characterized by a dynamic blend of opportunities and significant challenges. Supply chain disruptions and inventory shortages are critical issues, leading to increased shipping delays and rising costs, which impact timely delivery and squeeze profit margins. Efficient logistics management is essential, yet it is often hampered by these external factors. Payment processing, while needing to ensure security and user convenience, grapples with preventing fraud and integrating diverse payment methods, adding another layer of complexity. Furthermore, fulfillment operations require a streamlined approach to handle volume spikes and maintain accuracy in order picking, packing, and shipping, all while meeting customers' heightened expectations for faster delivery times.
Amid these operational challenges, customer data has emerged as an important strategy. By focusing on personalization and enhancing customer experience from historical behavior, businesses can deliver improved website and brand experienced, better product recommendations, optimal promotions, and content to meet individual preferences. Better data analytics can also help in effectively creating marketing campaigns, improving customer retention, and driving product development and inventory management.
Innovative formats such as social commerce and live shopping are beginning to impact the digital commerce landscape, offering new ways to engage with customers and drive sales, and may provide opportunity for brands that have been priced out or seen a downturn with post-pandemic shopping behavior. Social commerce integrates shopping experiences directly into social media platforms, tapping into the massive user bases of these networks to increase reach and engagement. Live shopping, on the other hand, combines entertainment and real-time interaction, providing a dynamic platform for showcasing products and encouraging immediate purchases. These innovations not only enhance customer engagement but also provide valuable data for businesses to refine their strategies and deliver superior shopping experiences.
The e-commerce sector is evolving rapidly, and businesses that effectively manage operational challenges and implement innovative strategies are best positioned for long-term success.

Business leaders Leaders grasp the importance; 83% of executives place reputation in their top five areas of risk, yet only 23% are confident in their ability to address it. How do you leverage reviews to change programs? They do monitor reviews very carefully. There are 5 members on the staff and they do monitor them closely. We take constructive criticism carefully. We see if it’s something we did or wrong we improve. They also do a survey when the families leave and come home, they do an online survey when they tell them about their week. IF there is a structural problem. The other thing that makes them different is they go to the source on every occasion and don’t make decisions in a bubble. But the story on how they do things differently here. One of his friends was a VP of a national restaurant chain, they were test marketing pizza at one time, in order to sell pizza in different occasion, they got together and decided square, round how many toppings. They made all the decisions started the marketing, made the boxes. And the first person drove up and the pizza wouldn’t fit through the windows. They had to retrofit the windows. But they didn’t ask anybody. Any issue that comes up in every position that has any stake in the outcome. That is one of the reasons that we get such great response. They know that when they get a comment it will be fixed.Early on when they first got the award, there are a lot of comments about volunteer appreciation. They go through 1400 volunteer shifts a week. And so they are sensitive to how they recognize volunteers. From the reviews they got from GreatNonprofits they came up with volunteer spotlight on their Facebook where they pick out a different volunteer each week. How they contribute to the village. A way to let the volunteers know that we don’t just run this organization and forget about you. That was a concrete example. They do a lot in terms of recognizing volunteers. But in terms of social media they hadn’t done as much. They are also now doing a couple of (a result of review). A lot of corporate thank you. They are really particular about. They have so many incredible companies that help them, Disney, Boston Market, Hasbro provides free toys. They get so much corporate support but they don’t want families to feel that they have to buy anything. They don’t put the logos on their brochures. As a result of the reviews they get they are doing 2-3 corporate video thank you on their YouTube page. Stuffing face with macaroni and chesses. Cute ways to thank the sponsors. More meaningful than the president.

"Our work is more than just rescuing and adopting cats and kittens. Wehelp families keep their cats by helping with food donations andhelping other people fix the stray cats that they feed and care for.Reading our reviews on Great Nonprofits really helped affirm thepositive effect we have on people's lives and happiness and thewell-being of the cats they care for.""We were overwhelmed by our reviews. We help as much as we can andreturn every call and email- we cannot take in every cat for adoptionbut we try to help people with any resource we have. The reviews wehave received on Great Non-profits affirm what we strive to achieveand we know that the reviews will give us more opportunity to helpothers."
