If you've picked up a conference program lately, you are well aware that so many of the conversations that librarians are having focus on the hurdles to establishing relationships with faculty members and the issues that arise when attempting to collaborate across sectors. In honor of this year's theme, this session aims to move beyond all of that gloom and doom. Those of us having these conversations and running into these barriers are obviously very convinced of the value of collaboration so let's talk about the positives for a change--let's talk about intrasector collaboration.
This lively discussion will focus on libraries collaborating with libraries, librarians collaborating with librarians, and librarians collaborating with library school students. We'll discuss best practices for saving time, saving money, and saving the future of the profession through working with colleagues who are just as eager to collaborate as we are. Advisory board members from Libraries Thriving, the online community for librarians interested in e-resource innovation and information literacy promotion that was conceived during a 2010 Charleston Conference plenary session, will share their experience with working in these areas and attendees will be invited to join in with their stories, experiences, and questions. Come with a positive attitude towards collaboration and leave with ideas about how to better your working relationships with colleagues.

Collaborating with students: Reflections on UCC Library co-creating learning ...Stephanie C
UCC Library launched its Library Learning Resources course on Canvas (the University’s VLE) at the start of the 2020 academic year. The course consists of seven, self-directed interdisciplinary modules which offer teaching to all students on information searching and Library resources. This talk outlines the key learnings from a 2021 summer project funded by the University’s Office of the Vice-President for Learning & Teaching.
The project involved Library staff collaborating with a diverse and inclusive group of students: to obtain feedback on the Library’s modules; implement improvements based on feedback; develop interactive assessments and content, allowing for the co-creation of learning experiences. The outcome of the project was a refined Library course which was more appealing and engaging. Library staff and students used H5P to co-create new interactive learning objects which help cement knowledge and allow for self-evaluation. An interactive, app-based scavenger hunt was also developed to provide an impactful first experience of UCC Library buildings for new students.

Whilst there is a wealth of experience across the sector in supporting digital and information literacies with our learners, it is often dispersed and difficult for students most in need to access at the appropriate point in their studies. They need the very skills they are searching for before they can find them. Using the LLiDA findings (http://www.academy.gcal.ac.uk/llida/) our response was the development of a digital learning literacy environment (http://alle.uwl.ac.uk/).
The literacy environment is comprised of a series of learning objects organised in three parts: the Academic Journey, the Library Learning Journey and Digital Tools for Learning. The literacy environment has been used and evaluated by over 200 first-year business students (http://hermes.uwl.ac.uk/learnerjourney/).
As well as creating new resources, existing interactive materials customised for generic reuse were brought together in a cohesive and structured framework enclosed in a wraparound shell (http://www.glomaker.org/). We will share how we made effective use of ‘best’ pedagogy knowledge and resources to maximise OER potential.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
