Introduction
Why collaboration?
Importance of collaboration in
information literacy
instruction
Inconsistent definitions
Research Question
How is collaboration
conceptualized and practiced
by teaching librarians?
Research Methodology
Pragmatic Utility Concept Analysis (Morse,
2016)
Literature review
Conceptualizing collaboration
Key Findings
Collaboration lacks standardized
definition & conceptualization
Interchangeable terminology
is problematic
Six dimensions of
collaboration
“...collaboration means working together [co (together)
+ laborare (to work)]” (Donham & Green, 2004).
“working jointly with others or together especially in an
intellectual endeavor” (Owens & Bozeman, 2009).
“a mutually beneficial and well-designed
relationship entered into by two or more
[individuals or] organizations to achieve
common goals” (Mattessich & Monsey, 1992).
“a joint working, learning and sharing process
that specifically focuses on the activities of
teaching, learning and researching among
educational participants, in which knowledge
can be activated and transferred” (Pham &
Tanner, 2015).
Boundaries

Editor's Notes

  • #4 Poll: what is collaboration for you? How would you define it? Objective: to demonstrate the variety of perceptions of what collaboration is. We will point it out at the end of the poll that there are a lot of various definitions and there is not one shared definition. https://www.polleverywhere.com/free_text_polls/v3CbiKI37NETlp2eUEdA4?preview=true&controls=none TATIANA WILL LEAD THIS POLL AND REPLY TO POLL RESULTS
  • #7 Describe PU How we structured lit review (years, what was included, excluded…) Nvivo coding (against the PU dimensions) and comparative coding Based on coding, categories emerged that helped us structure the analysis (against the dimensions) AMY
  • #14 Many of our codes did not align with the five dimensions of PU, so we we distinguished Social Dynamics separately from other dimensions, we extended the model to capture the concept. The analysis from the data set indicated that social dynamics are a prevalent aspect of librarians' collaborative experience and it was the heaviest among the coded dimension. Review the points of social dynamics Does this resonate? Segue to peer to peer breakouts (find something to say)
  • #16 Defining collab will help us build a strong theoretical foundation in our field; in turn, the use of this foundation contributes to more rigorous research Review article to summarize future directions New ideas about their own practice in the context of the dimensions: what have I overlooked? What are my habits? What can change? Improved awareness…new conversations… AMY
