Your questions about … the Pyramids in Egypt
For a long time, the pyramids were one of the world’s big mysteries. But
today, we know a little more about them. Dr. Daniel Knowles from the
Egyptian Museum in Cairo answers your questions.
How old are the pyramids?
About 4,600 years old.
Why did the Egyptians build the pyramids?
The ancient Egyptians built them for their pharaohs, the kings of Egypt.
They were their tombs. For example, the Great Pyramid was a tomb for
the Pharoah Khufu.
How long did it take to build one?
We think that it took between twenty and thirty years to build one. They
didn’t have any machines then.
How many people did it take to build a pyramid?
We don’t know exactly, but thousands and thousands of people!
How big is the Great Pyramid?
It’s very, very big. There are about two million three hundred thousand
blocks of stone in this pyramid.
Circle T (True) or F (False). Justify the false.
