Objectives Demonstrate depth of research Ability to paraphrase, summarize and synthesize Organizational ability Focus and development of topics Ability to follow basic requirements of format, length etc.
DO Have at LEAST five “top ranking” sources Write at LEAST 2000 words Have a title, your name at the top Double space Include proper in-text citations for all material used from your research (not just quotes) Integrate quotes into your own words Use paraphrase and summary as much as possible
Do NOT Fail to include citations Number your works cited list Have a title page Break your work into sections with headings Use too many direct quotes, especially block quotes. Call your works cited (MLA) or references (APA) list a bibliography Use any citation style except MLA or APA
Other Style Guidelines Use the first person sparingly Avoid the passive  Write out numbers which when spoken are two words or less: ten, fifteen, twenty three, but 153. (this is numbers one – one hundred) Avoid abbreviations and contractions
