Strategy Sessions: Innovative strategies for increasing online student engage...LearningandTeaching
Online learning often tries to recreate elements of real world teaching. As digital learning is still a fairly new field, teachers often face difficulties engaging students in this environment. The future of online learning looks promising. Perhaps the biggest beneficial aim for online learning is that it is able to not only recreate the real world classroom, but also be extremely versatile in how and where we teach students.
In these slides, Maxine Rosenfield and Simon Daly give us an insight into learners’ and educators’ expectations of digital learning and the benefits and challenges faced on the platform. Maxine and Simon share a range of strategies that can be used to overcome these challenges based on their experience and feedback, to work towards achieving better learning outcomes.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

Steve Schneid
2. Introduction
• Transferring colleges is a very difficult decision that a student
might face.
• Leaving friends and classmates makes that decision that much
harder.
• Once a decision to transfer is made, students must assimilate
into their new colleges.
• This is a guide to start off successfully at a new school.
3. Adjusting
• New environment
• Different class sizes can take time for students to get used to.
• New information
• Different format for exams can take some practice
4. Get to Know Your Professors
• Find out how your assignments are scored
• Try to establish a bond with your instructor
• Go to class, missing classes can cause you to get behind
• Complete assigned readings and take good notes
• Get your assignments in on time
5. Make Use of Resources
• Syracuse University Offers a writing center that can aid in
completing writing pieces.
• -Find Someone who you trust to peer evaluate your work
6. Syracuse Transfer Mentor Program
• Syracuse offers transfers the option of having a transfer
mentor
• Transfer mentors help students get assimilated onto campus
• They are there to answer questions
• Can also be useful to peer review papers
• http://orientation.syr.edu/first-year-experience/mentoring-
programs/index.html
7. South Campus Bus System
• New transfers at Syracuse are usually placed on South
Campus, therefore understanding how the bus system works
is critical.
• Transfers have to adjust to taking bus to get to classes
• New students should give themselves at least 45 minutes
from the start of their class to get there on time.
• (Posted Below is a link showing the South Campus Bus
schedule)
8. Join An Organization
• Syracuse offers a wide range of social and academic
organizations ranging from Greek life to sports
• Joining an organization will help a transfer meet students with
similar interests.
• By getting involved on campus, a transfer will feel more apart
of the campus atmosphere
9. Transfer Manifesto
• 1. Decide if transferring is the right decision-A student that is
thinking about transferring needs to be a hundred percent
committed to the process in order to be successful.
• 2. Be open minded-A student at a new school should come in
with an open mind and be willing to step outside their
comfort zone.
• 3.Put yourself out there- Don’t be afraid to talk to new people
and get involved on campus.
• 4. Understand that mistakes will be made- Being at a new
school is a whole different experience, and understand that it
will take a while before you feel integrated.
10. Manifesto Continued
• 5. Ask for help-Seek assistance if you need any questions
answered.
• 6. Be motivated-Arriving at a new school means a fresh start,
get off on the right note by studying hard and putting in effort.
• 7. Confidence is key-Be confident when entering a new
college environment and don’t let the change of scenery
cause intimidation.
• 8. Explore-Being at a new college means new opportunities,
and new experiences to look into.
• 9. Embrace your new school-Come into the transfer process
with a positive attitude, and you will find success at your new
school.
