3. Introduction
Concrete is a composite material composed of
coarse and fine aggregates bonded together
with a fluid cement that hardens over time, its
used in building and bridges
4. Activities 1: Hunting for objects made of concrete
• Objective: to recognize different uses of
concrete.
• We searched the web for objects made out of
concrete and found that most building and
bridges use concrete
5. Activities 2: Comparing Different Types of Cement
• Objective: Observe the chemical and physical
change, as cement hardens
• We made 3 mixtures of cement and water
one without adding salt or sugar , one with
sugar and the last one with salt
6. • Objective: Compare the densities of different
concrete formulations
• Procedures: we compared the densities of
different concrete formulas
Activity 3: Comparing Different Concrete
Formulation (Part A)
7. • Objective: Making different concrete
formulations
• Procedures: we made different formulas of
concrete
Activity 3: Comparing Different Concrete
Formulation (Part B)
8. Activity 4: Testing Properties of Concrete
• Objective: To test the properties of concrete
including strength and brittleness and observe
how its components affect those properties
• We tested concrete blocks by pouring water
to add weight to the strength test apparatus
on the concrete blocks until it broke
9. Activity 4: Testing Properties of Concrete
• Results:
• Conclusion: concrete having equals amounts
of fine and coarse aggregates will be stronger
10. Design Project Concrete Reinforcement
• Objective: Concrete reinforcement by adding
different materials to the mixtures.
• Procedure: We will add metal to reinforce the
concrete making it harder to break and
withstand hard impacts
11. Design Project Concrete Reinforcement
• Results: The concrete block was hard to break
and withstand hard impacts.
• Conclusion: added metal to reinforce the
concrete makes it harder to break and
withstand hard impacts.

Many thanks to my teachers, school and AL-Bairaq team from
Center for Advanced Materials (CAM), Qatar University for
supporting us during our journey with a AL-Bairaq.
Also, I would like to thank the sponsors UNESCO, Qatar National
Commission, Ras Gas, and Shell.
