2. Outline
• Introduction
• Activity 1: Hunting for objects made of concrete
• Activity 2: Comparing Different Types of Cement
• Activity 3: Comparing Different Concrete
Formulation
• Activity 4: Testing Properties of Concrete
• Design Project : Concrete Reinforcement
• Product Idea
3. Introduction
concrete is cement and sand and gravel Mix
the dry ingredients and slowly add water until
the concrete is workable. This mixture may need
to be modified depending on the aggregate
used to provide a concrete of the right
workability.
4. Activities 1: Hunting for objects made
of concrete
Objective: to recognize different uses of concrete.
We used internet to search about concrete
5. Activities 1: Hunting for objects made
of concrete
(Concrete is a composite material composed of coarse aggregate bonded
together with a fluid cement that hardens over time examples
1 buildings
2 bridges
Conclusion: concrete is used in building because it is strong formable and
cheap
6. Activities 2: Comparing Different Types
of Cement
We prepared three mixture one with
cement and water the other one with
cement and water and salt the third one is
cement water and sugar.
• Objective: Observe the chemical and
physical change, as cement hardens
7. Activity 2: Comparing Different Types
of Cement
• We learn that if you add we add salt to
cement and water if will make it harden faster
but if we add sugar it will make it slower
• Conclusion: salt is positive catalyst and sugar
is negative catalyst
8. Activity 3: Comparing Different
Concrete Formulation (Part A)
Objective: Compare the densities of different concrete formulations
We filled graduated cylinder with different portions of coarse and fine
aggregates to measure density of it
9. Activity 3: Comparing Different
Concrete Formulation (Part A)
We found using equal portions of coarse and fine aggregates will results in
highest density.
Density equals mass over volume, and it is increases by using equal ratio of
coarse and fine aggregates.
10. Activity 3: Comparing Different
Concrete Formulation (Part B)
Objective: Compare the densities of different concrete formulations
• We made different concrete
we named them E and F for
the E was 60 cement and 120
gravel and sand 33ml water
and for F we but 240 sand no
gravel and 33 water
11. Activity 3: Comparing Different
Concrete Formulation(Part B)
• Results: density of concrete is effected by
increasing of water to cement ratio.
• Conclusion: water to cement ratio affect
density of concrete mixture
12. Activity 4: Testing Properties of
Concrete
Objective: To test the properties of concrete including strength and brittleness
and observe how its components affect those properties
We did a test we put them on metal plank and conceited it with water bucket
and we added water
13. Activity 4: Testing Properties of
Concrete
• Results: F was the first one to break E was the
last one.
• Conclusion: increasing
water to cement ratio will
results in weaker concrete
14. Design Project Concrete
Reinforcement
We made E+ was 60 cement and 120 coarse
and fine aggregates, and sand 33ml water and
we put cotton in the middle to reinforce it.
• Objective: Concrete reinforcement by
adding different materials to the mixtures.
15. Design Project Concrete
Reinforcement
• We did a test we put them on metal plank and
conceited it with water bucket and we added
water e+ was break because we added cotton
and was not good choice of reinforcement
• Conclusion: adding
reinforcement will make
concrete mixture stronger
16. Introduction
we are using cheap materials to make waterproof concrete that can be used in
farming strawberries and tomatoes
making a waterproof concrete to use it to farm tomatoes and strawberries
because they only need seawater and sunlight so if we have
Waterproof concrete will help us reserve some sea water to use it in farming
strawberries and tomatoes
By using glue and bitumen in the concrete mixture will make concrete
waterproof concrete
17. Waterproof concrete for farming
Methods and Materials
Material and methods
We used bitumen and glue in making water proof concrete we made
three sample one concrete mixture with bitumen only and another
sample with glue only the third mixture is bitumen and glue together
We will plant strawberries and tomatoes only with the ocean water in a
box or something made of concrete and it will be waterproof
18. Waterproof concrete for farming
Results: (النتائج)
build a waterproof or water resistance concrete for planting
strawberries and tomatoes [the waterproof concrete is to prevent the
water from dripping out]
Further researches can be conducted in this idea in order to involve
concrete in agricultural field
19. Waterproof concrete for
farming Recommendations
Further researches can be conducted in this idea in order to involve
concrete in agricultural field
You could add some water proof materials
20. Conclusions
We learned that concrete is made from gravel and sand and cement and
water’ we can harden it faster by adding salt and slower by add sugar’
and it gets stronger depending on the thing you add and were you put
it’ it was an amazing experience
