3. MODERNISM
Modernism is a movement that is
usually referred to in art and graphic
design. The term modernism began to
be used in graphic design in the
1925’s.
Hans Hofmann was an American artist
and created this piece of art the he
named ‘The Gate’. He introduced
modernism to upcoming American
artists during the 1930’s.
POST-MODERNISM
Post-modernism is a movement that
contradicts and rejects trends that
modernists follow. Post-modernism
was first used in the 1970’s.
Post-modernism art is known to
be more extravagant and
contain a wider a range of
colours and designs than art
created by modernists.
OP-ART
Op-art is a form of abstract art that provides
you with the thought that there is movement
in the photo, by using colours and patterns
and putting them in to specific position.

4. POP-ART
Pop-art is a movement that was first used in
the mid-1950’s in Britain. Pop-art
predominantly contained art that was quite
popular and of a modern culture. Pop-art
usually had aspects of adverts and comical
layouts and images implemented in to them.
ART NOUVEAU
Art nouveau is an artistic movement that became
extremely popular between 1890 and 1905 and
was initially used in applied art and interior
design/architecture. However, as time progressed
Art nouveau began to be used in the making of
magazines, book production and even adverts.
5. PUNK
Punk art is mainly used on when
attempting to advertise punk music or
concerts. One thing that is recognised
frequently when viewing punk art is the
usage of different letters cut out from
newspapers and magazines to spell out
words. The majority of the time these
letters were of different size and colour.
URBAN
Urban art is usually performed by
people that live in a city or has an
obsession or passion with the city.
Some people that do graffiti refer to
themselves as urban artists and
thoroughly enjoy doing it even
though it is recognized as vandalism
which is a crime.
6. ANIME
Anime was first shown in Japan in 1917
and can be hand drawn but is mainly
viewed through the use of TV shows and
video games. The characteristics of Anime
are that they are recognized to be highly
colourful and contain vibrant themes.
KITSCH
Kitsch art was originally mentioned in
the 1860’s in Munich and was said to
be highly cheap but highly popular.
Kitsch artists said there was a more
meaningful reason of the art itself.
7. PHOTO-REALIST
Photorealism is when an artist
attempts to recreate a photo that
has already been taken by either
drawing or painting it.
This artist took a photo of herself
in the shower then attempted to
recreate it by painting it.
FUTURISTIC
Futuristic art was founded in the early 20th
century in Milan(Italy). Artists that looked at
futurism frequently looked at technology
and objects such as the car due to the fact
that many people had a huge fascination
with cars as they were far more rare in the
early 20th century.
8. CARTOON
Cartoons started off predominantly
as drawings, paintings and in print
media, but has now progressed to
be such more. There are now large
amounts of TV shows that are
cartoons and are extremely
popular.
INTERNATIONAL STYLE
International style art was first
discovered in the early 20th
century and was initially used by
people who were architects or
interested in architecture.
GRUNGE
Grunge art is usually
represented as being quite old
and dirty. We can identify this
because most grunge art is
covered in stains, torn images
and is usually all over the place.
10. FACTUAL
Another word for factual
television is observational
documentary. An observational
documentary is a documentary
that focuses on a particular
person or object.
EDITORIAL
An editorial is a written
document and is usually
referred to as a newspaper or
magazine.
ACTION
Action is a genre that typically
contains violence, physical
threats and obstacles. Action
films tend to have one hero
fighting a group of villains or
sometimes there may just be
one villain.
11. ADVENTURE
Adventure films usually show the main character
exploring or discovering new lands. In most
Adventure films we find that the protagonist is
looking for an object(treasure) and accidentally
stumbles across new lands. The types of films
always seem to be set in a deserted area or an are
with loads of nature and trees(forest).
FASHION
Fashion TV shows specialise in clothing and ways
to better your appearance.
12. FANTASY
Fantasy genre is a genre that is set in an
imaginary universe and very rarely contains
normal human beings, but usually contains
creatures that perform magic. Although fantasy
films do not contain normal life like creatures
that does not mean they do not have certain
aspects implemented, that are in the real
world.
SIMULATION
Simulation game makers attempt to take real
life situations and implement them in to a video
game and make them as realistic as possible.
13. TABLOID
Tabloid in TV are usually shown to inform
and entertain veiwers. Tabloid Television
usually covers crime and news stories
that may contain a traumatizing video or
flashy graphics.
SCIENCE FICTION
Science fiction is a genre that is
predominantly set in the past or the
future. The majority of science fiction
films either involve someone travelling to
the future or from the future.
