The Indonesians have a very rich form of music
and functioning in varied means of their lives. Their
music is one of the most ancient in Asia. It is divided
into two major parts:
• Javanese
• Balinese

Indonesians most well-known and
popular form of music.
It is their traditional orchestra. The
word gamelan means “Orchestra”.

member ensemble
is composed of
various percussion
instruments.
Bamboo flutes and
some
chordophones are
also included.

Saron plays the basic or skeletal melody of the music.
It is a xylophone with five to nine keys are hit with a
wooden mallet called Tabuh.
