Government final
1. Hello, I am Westyn Swenson and I am a Business major
2. My want to be involved in our political system is because of how scary it
can be. With the type of people that run our political system now, you
never know what were going to get. It’s like we cant trust who runs our
country now. I vote because it is up to me to help decide who runs our
state and country. We need to get better people in office. People who care
and have morals. This country in falling little by little.
3. I knew pretty fondly of how things went in Texas before this class. One
thing I learned that I was surprised by was the power that Rick Perry
accumulated over his tenure in office. He made a lot of changes and not all
of them were wanted. I think the worst thing to happen in Texas over the
past few years is the stand on education. I was surprised to see all of the
faults in it. I knew that it wasn’t the best but I think it just got worse. I was
not expecting to learn that it had gotten worse since I graduated.
4. In my opinion, the biggest thing Texas needs to focus on is education. Our
future is the most important thing and as of now, it isn’t going well. Kids
aren’t being taught enough and it isn’t their fault. We spend too much
money on pointless things and not enough on teachers and schools.
Teachers might be better if they got paid like they should. They hold the
future in their hands.
5. I think Texas has a pretty good role in decision making. Numbers show
that Texas has one of the best governments and economies in the nation. I
feel like they have a pretty good pull in what goes on in the government
just because of how they handle themselves in their own state work.
6. I have learned quite a bit from this course. If I have to make one
adjustment after taking this course, it would be to stay involved in politics
more. After going through this class and this past election, my eyes have
been opened to how scary this stuff can be. It is up to me to make sure we
get who we need in office. I feel obligated to stay in check because I want
someone to represent me and my fellow Americans. Not themselves.
