1. Good Narrative Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Good Narrative Essay" presents a challenge that demands
more than just a cursory understanding of narrative structure. To compose a compelling piece,
one must delve into the intricate nuances of storytelling, navigating through the realms of
character development, plot progression, and thematic resonance. The task requires not only
adept writing skills but also a keen sense of narrative flair to captivate the reader's imagination
and evoke a profound emotional response.
Moreover, the difficulty lies not only in understanding the technical aspects of narrative
composition but also in harnessing creativity to breathe life into the storyline. Crafting authentic
characters, devising engaging conflicts, and orchestrating a cohesive narrative arc demand a
meticulous balance of imagination and craftsmanship.
Furthermore, the challenge is compounded by the subjective nature of storytelling; what
resonates as a "good" narrative to one reader may fall flat for another. Hence, the essayist must
navigate through a myriad of perspectives, striving to create a narrative that transcends personal
biases and resonates universally.
In conclusion, tackling the task of writing an essay on the intricacies of a "Good Narrative
Essay" demands a multifaceted approach that encompasses technical proficiency, creative
ingenuity, and a nuanced understanding of storytelling dynamics. Only through meticulous
craftsmanship and a deep appreciation for the art of narrative can one hope to craft an essay that
truly exemplifies the essence of a compelling narrative.

Samples of Artemia eggs were exposed during three days to four different salinities:
0%, 0.5%, 1% and 1.5 %. After gathering all the results, one may observe the level of
salinity that contributed to the larger hatching success of Artemia. The sample
exposed to a salinity of 0.5% exhibited the greatest hatching whereas the sample
exposed to the solution with no salt, or 0% salinity, did not show any hatching nor
partial hatching (Table 1). The sample exposed to a 1.5% salinity presented some free
swimming individuals and partial hatch eggs, but they were less than the ones
exposed to 0.5% (Table 1). The sample containing 1% salinity was lost during the
experiment and we were not able to record the data (Table 1).By looking at the
recorded data of the overall class (Table 2), one may still perceive that the most
effective solution for hatching was 0.5%

It was predicted that Artemia populations would not survive in waters containing high
percentages of salinities since t would cause the cell to shrivel and probably die due
to dehydration. For this reason, it was hypothesized that the eggs in the solution with
the highest salt concentration would not be able to hatch. During the experiment, the
data for the 1% salinity was lost when the petri dish with the solution and the
specimen accidentally dropped. However, our hypothesis was not supported by the
recorded data. The results show a major amount of hatched eggs at 0.5% salinity,
while the 1.5% salinity presented a lower amount of hatching. However, hatching was
not present in the solution with 0% salinity. Therefore, I reject my

1.Some of the values of the culture I visited were the religious values. They were
all Christians and most of them were from different parts of Africa. They believe
in god and believe that he was the king of the universe, I could tell by the way they
sing and the way they participated. They also believe in Jesus, based on how they
had the statue of Jesus in the center of the church. They also saw each other as a
community, as a church. They all looked really united and even though many of them
didn t knew each other they great each other like they did, because that probably
might be a norm for them.
2.Offerings People give the church money for the local church, ministries and the
church s mission. People believe that when they give money they give it to god to

No one knows when he will come but they all will be waiting for him.

I was surrounded and didn t know what to do. They were both trying to go for the
ball. I tried to knock it down to my feet and try to kick it into the goal, but by then
the goalie had gotten the ball from me. I was instantly knocked off balance and fell
over. With that tackle my coach yelled, Whoa! That should be a foul ref! It was
clean and he was inside the goalies box. The center referee replied back. That s
ridiculous! How are players allowed to do that in the box regardless whose side its
on? I thought to myself. I expressed the look of shock on my face and shook my
head in disbelief from the tackle. What the players did was through their elbows in
on me as I held the ball between my legs to get the ball from me. I was subbed off
from the hits/tackles shortly after limping off, and didn t get back in. I was upset
with the ref from that point on. I was also upset with the players that got the ball
from me. The final score at the end of the day was 3 0 opposing team. After the
game my coach told us to sit down around the bench while he talked to us. OK,
first of all, Connor, thank you for going after the ball in the box. That should ve
been a foul. You had a great chance, but everyone else was standing there watching
and not running up to the ball trying to help. I think we could ve done so much
better that game. But, now we have to go out tomorrow and win our game if we re

5. Relationship Between Inequality And Economic Growth
Introduction Since the establishment of the People s Republic of China in 1949 with
its government socialist ideology, planned economy during the economic reforms,
which started in 1978 and are still going on until nowadays, China has had continued
presence of inequality. In my work I overview the evolution of inequality that could
be divided into two historical periods: pre reform period (1949 1978) and the reform
period (1978 onwards). I also examine the correlation between inequality and
economic growth in China. Although, with the sustained economic development and
increase of living standards for the last three decades, China s uneven regional
development has been a serious phenomenon. During the time of triple transition that
includes decentralization, modernization and globalization the nature of regional
development and its inequality has been changed fundamentally. Inequality has
become the engine of progress; I argue that nowadays inequality in China is
unavoidable for future development. Pre reform period Geographically China is
divided into three parts: western, central and eastern (coastal) regions. Based on the
historical development, natural resources, and climate they have their own
distinctions. The new government considered development imbalance as an
important issue because of three significant factors. First, the interior labor market
was far away from coastal area. The second factor is the raw materials and energy
supply were far away from coastal
6. Cobalt Origins
Funny; there is a predisposed notion among my colleague about how scientific
research could be very daunting. But, luckily, this project was everything but
daunting; In fact, it was intriguing! Indeed! That was how I felt when my academic
research pertaining to the 27th element, Cobalt, led me to discovery the following:
That the element was discovered 281 years ago to this year, in Sweden in 1735, by
chemist George Brand (Thomas); Brand, fascinated by the idea that the blue color of
glass and orbs found in mines could not be caused by the element Bismuth, officially
named Cobalt as the element that was responsible to have caused the blue color seen
on glasses and orbs after conducting his own experiment (Thomas). Unfortunately,

Nevertheless, I found it to be very hilarious that the name Cobalt or, Kobald, in
German s lexicon and definition actually stands for goblin or evil spirit (Thomas);
and in Greek, the name stands for mine (Thomas). Perhaps my humor or lack
thereof came about because my comprehension and conceived notion of its origin is
this: Kobald, the tangible object you ve dug could potentially harm you, for it is
surrounded by Arsenic Trioxide gases (Cobalt Revise ). But nowadays contrast to
that of sinister or evil , as the meanings in German suggested Cobalt is actually widely
used to benefit humanity, especially in medical treatment. Co 60 (Cobalt 60), to be
more specific, is used to cure brain tumor by ways of radioactive treatment. That is,
and in its simplest and short explanation, Cobalt 60, sends radioactive gamma rays
that penetrate through tissues and organs. The rays then target the tumor, leaving
other organs unscathed (Gamma
7. The Negative Effects Of Social Media And Its Effects On...
In the last twenty years, a phenomenon known as social media has become popular,
and with this phenomenon, people have started to be able to communicate and share
their lives with others all over the world with ease, and this has brought the world
together in a unique way. However, all good things have problems, and a multitude
of problems have come from becoming addicted to using social media. In Fanni
BГЎnyai s article Problematic Social Media Use: Results from a Large Scale
Nationally Representative Adolescent Sample, she says, Negative outcomes
triggered by the excessive use of social media may have a detrimental effect on the
personal, social, and/ or professional lives of the users. and I agree because it is
easy to see the impact of social media overuse in the society of todays world. Social
media is a fantastic thing that allows people to stay in touch with distant friends
and family to share experiences, but social media also can become addictive and
destroy face to face friendships, but these problems are fixed by planning time to
use social media, and not posting everything an individual does. The invention of
social media has made it possible for friends that meet while traveling, or the
family that has people all over, or even the family that all lives in the same
neighborhood, to stay in touch and share their daily experiences with each other.
Social Media has made it possible for a woman in Greeneville, TN, to talk to and

that same year, Sinatra signed with Capitol Records and was able to work the
finest musicians in that era. Such as Billy May and Gordon Jenkins. The first
material that was released with Capital was very dark emotional music. His best
album that has ever been created was In the Wee Small Hours in 1955. Another
huge success for Sinatra was in 1956 with the collaboration with Nelson Riddle.
The project was called Songs for Swingin Lovers! The project had a critical and
financial success. One collection of Sinatra music was titled Frank Sinatra Sings
for Only the Lonely. It included tavern type sound with a tint of blues. His
collection was spent 120 weeks on Billboard s album chart. Songs such as Angel Eyes
and One for My Baby are considered among his greatest and are still appreciated
today.
Frank Sinatra was a huge fan of rock and roll music. He defended fashionable, high
class, and lyrical music. Which was at its prime in the 30 s and 40 s? He hated
music that degraded women and saw it as tasteless. The hit song High Hopes was
nominated for an Academy Award for best original song and lasted on the Hot 100
for 17 weeks. Things slowly came to a halt and Sinatra started his own record label
called Reprise Records. In the late 60 s Sinatra started in many movies such as Von

Thank you, thank you all very much. Thank you. That s the happiest I have ever seen
Charles Woodson since he won the Heisman Trophy back in 97.
I cannot even begin to explain how honored I am to be mentioned in the same
breath with some of the most iconic athletes, like Kobe Bryant and Peyton
Manning. This is something that I will treasure for a very long time. I do not have
much prepared, however, so I m going to speak longer than anybody has spoken

much of it you have left, and there are some things that I would like to say.
Hopefully, by the end of this, I will have said something that will inspire all of you

People always ask me how is your day, and nothing has changed. As Charles said, I
am a very hard working and passionate man. I cannot help it. That is being the son
of Mufid and Safija Hajric. It comes with a territory. We are committed and work

When people say to me how do you get through each day, it is the same thing. To
me, there are three things that we must all strive to do each day. Number one is to
have a feasible dream or goal of some kind. Number two is sacrifice. To attain your
goals, you must always sacrifice a little more in order to reap the benefits later on.

Kowalski argued that the speech occurred outside of school; therefore, the school
administration had no right to punish her. The court decided that the school district
had the right to punish Kowalski. Since the MySpace page created by Kowalski
was viewed at school and involved several students from the school; the school was
within its rights to punish Kowalski. Kowalski s hateful speech is not protected
under free speech. The court used several other court cases to back their decision.
The court relied on Tinker v. Des Moines because substantial disruption to the
educational process was present. The court also applied Morse v. Frederick by stating
that the hateful language toward another student was inconsistent with the school s
mission; and although it started off campus, it made its way to the school computers
and campus. The court used Bethel School District v. Fraser and determined that the
speech in question was inappropriate social behavior, which the school has a duty to

12. Anzaldua And Fanon Summary
Language may be the most important part of identity. Language takes an identity
from being an individual trait, and transforms it into a social one. The problem with
language being a part of a person s identity is that there are many languages and not
all languages are seen as equal. Anzaldua and Fanon address how some languages are
seen as inferior and establish an us and them mentality within nations and cultures.
Fanon takes the approach of becoming the us or superior languageand culture, while
Anzaldua makes the claim that a person is able to be a part of more than one culture
and language without losing ones own. Anderson uses language to establish the
origins of language based separation based on the us and them concept as well as
nations.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anderson points out that many nations were established based on the creation of a
national language that was designed to unify the people and establish a distinction
from other nations (Anderson 2006). The process of establishing a national
language had both positive and negative effects. People who did not speech the
national language felt excluded and were essentially marginalized. The people who
spoke the language were more included and regarded as true citizens. The process
was more successful when the language was more widespread in the nation.
Language is the tool that can create nations as well as divide culture, countries, and
people. The use of language is important in establishing identities. For people like
Anzaldua it can strengthen an identity while for people Fanon mentioned it strips a
person of their identity and replaces it with the superior language and culture.
Language is constantly changing and expanding, which in turn causes identities,
cultures, and nations to change and expand as
13. Mediation and Peacekeeping Agenda in International
Relations
MEDIATION AND PEACEKEEPING AGENDA In International Relations,
mediation and peacekeeping are the very essence of what are international
relations itself, international organizations and regional organization like the
African Union. First established by the United Nations decades ago, it has played
an outstanding role in the peaceful aim and determination of armed conflict around
the world. It was at the end of the Cold War that it mostly reached its peak as many
long term conflicts were finally coming to an end due to the political negotiations
which were often broken but were successfully applied after strong mediation and
peacekeeping effort. For this thesis of the Darfur conflict, to assess and examine
the African Union s mediation and peacekeeping agenda, we must first understand
and differentiate between peacemaking and peacekeeping. Then their role in the
Darfur conflict could be analyzed and if they have had an outstanding role as in
many others armed conflict. Definition of Mediation and Peacekeeping What is
mediation? What is peacemaking? Peacemaking and mediation are deeply
intertwine and cannot be defined without one another. But what is peacemaking?
Peacemaking has been defined by many scholars and critics. For Douglas Noll, an
expert in peacemaking and mediation specialized in difficult and intractable
conflicts; he defined peacemaking as a complex concept as even peace can be
defined in so many ways. But however he described peacemaking as a concept

Unisex toilets An idea to be flushed? Have you ever been bullied because of who
you are? This kind of bullying happens every day and not just to children. As our
world is evolving there is more conflicts and debates. One of these are whether
transgenders should be allowed to use the bathroom of the genderthey identify by.
Many people who are transgenderface violence and discrimination just for being
who they are. A study shows 62% of Trans people report being discriminated
against because if their gender. It is argued that Gender neutral bathrooms will
become a playground for rapists.Unbelievably our world doesn t realise that
bathrooms are already playgrounds for rapists. On May 25th 1997, Jeremy
Strothmeyer raped and murdered 7 year old Sherrice Iverson after he followed her
into a women s bathroom, a place Sherrice probably thought she was safe. News
flash: rapists are malicious people and they don t have any intention to stop these
horrific crimes just because the bathroom doesn t identify by their gender. Rape will
continue to occur in bathrooms whether or not they are gender neutral. The fear of
rape should not be used as an argument against gender neutral bathrooms, speaking
frankly it is irrelevant. Having gender neutral bathrooms may even provide more
protection for those in danger or scared of getting raped due to a higher likelihood of
people being in the bathroom. Is it worth the money it s costing? Installing gender
neutral bathrooms has an estimated

Background of the Creators
Wolfgang Amadeus MozartMozart was born in Salzburg on January 27, 1756, to
Leopold Mozart and Anna Maria Mozart. He was the seventh of seven children.
Wolfgang and his sister Maria (the fourth of seven children) were the only children
that survived. Mozart s father, Leopold was a musician who oversaw Mozart and
his sister s education. He took Wolfgang and Maria on his many traveling tours and
introduced them to this wide circle of friends and acquaintances, some of which
were Salzburg nobility and the archbishop. Mozart is known for being a musical
prodigy, learning to play the piano at age four and composing his first piece at five

at Salzburg University. He went on to play for many noted figures in Munich and
Vienna in 1762. The tour in Vienna was a great success and when the family
returned to Salzburg in 1763 Leopold was promoted to deputy Kapellmeister. In June
of 1763 the Mozart family went on a three and a half year journey to Germany,
France, the Low Countries, England and Switzerland. After this the family went on

20. Edvard Munch s Separation Annotation
According to edvardmunch.org, Edvard Munch s painting Separation painted in
1896, like his other paintings, represented German expressionism. Expressionist
paintings portray profound mental torment and have dark, gloomy undertones. The
dark nature of his paintings is in part due to the fact that his father suffered from a
mental illness, which profoundly impacted his upbringing. However, his paintings
from about 1892 to 1908 reveal his interest in nature and are brighter than all of his
previous work. Munch expresses the nature of his soul through symbolizing the
natural world rather than just superficially painting what is visible to the eye. His
painting Separation is an epitome of these characteristics in the context of love,

The man stands on dull, dark green land. According to color wheel pro.com, the
article Color Wheel Pro See Color Theory in Action asserts that dark green is
associated with ambition. Yet, according to edvardmunch.org in this painting, the
man s ambition is being suppressed because of the crimson plant which is
preventing him from moving forward into the future. The crimson plant is
possibly intended as a mandrake, with its love and death symbolism . Along with
the black clothing, the plant further reinforces the idea that the girl might as well
as be dead to him but at the same time he still cares for her. Assuming that the
crimson on his hand and the plant is blood, the man feels like he has the blood of
his lover on his hands. He feels guilty because of his part in their breakup, which is
an emotion other than sorrow which is why the hand clutching his chest is brighter
than his face. Looking behind the man, the brown tree is barren yet bright.

the color brown signifies comfort. However, since the tree is barren, the tree does
not represent comfort but a lack thereof. Looking to the right of the girl, the golden

the way that artificial and biological life communicate. The film IRobot (2004)
directed by Alex Proyas, leads readers through the year 2035 where humans and
robots life side by side, until detective Del Spooner discovers a conspiracy that may
enslave the human race. IRobot comments on the notion that, Art Imitates Life by
using film codes, such as camera shots and colour to identify the importance of the
unification of artificial and biological intelligence, and that humankind s quest to
evolve can lead to a lack of individuality. Symbolic and audio codes reveal that
technological and human power can be a corrupting force in both the fictional world
and modern society. IRobot encourages viewers to take the messages about
technological danger and look at our own current society to question these
controversial issues. Humans have always been ambitious, willing to create the new
and impossible, yet this has caused humankind itself to lose the spark that is their
own individuality. Through symbolic and audio codes, IRobot portrays the
signification of independence and the blurred identity of our present time. IRobot
displays the exaggerated lack of character that is making society to become followers
rather than leaders. At the orientation of the film, viewers see a long shot of Del
Spooner walking through the
23. How We Waste Power and Carbon Dioxide
Did you know that lighting a typical office overnight wastes enough energy to heat
water for one thousand cups of tea (Climate Care.org). This is only one of many
examples of how we waste power and Carbon dioxide. Almost everything we do
releases carbon dioxide emissions, and in different amounts. We can save money
and CO2 by reducing our carbon footprints, which is the total quantity of greenhouse
gases that someone produces. Although we don t think about them very often, a
carbon footprint is part of everyone s life because it s measured on things we use,
our actions create and waste CO2, and several people have worked to find energy
saving ways to reduce them and help the environment.
A carbon footprint is measured by using several different variables about someone s
lifestyle. It s important to note that depending on where someone may live influences
their impact on their carbon footprint. Just as Stephanie Pappas mentioned; In
California, for example, electricity generation is relatively climate friendly, so
focusing on vehicular emissions has a greater impact . Using an online calculator can
show anyone how much CO2 they use on average, by answering the questions
provided. Inevitably, in going about our daily lives commuting, sheltering our
families, eating each of us contributes to the greenhouse gas emissions that are
causing climate change (Nature.org). Basically, determining your carbon footprint is
a great first step to better understanding what uses
24. Examples Of Race Relations In To Kill A Mockingbird
Black people aren t allowed to drink from that fountain; black people aren t allowed
to get a higher education or have the finer things; black people aren t going to be paid
equally. These were more than normal events happened daily when Jim Crow laws
were a large part of life causing heavy tension between races around 70 years ago.
Jim Crow lawsthat were deeply rooted in the racist, discriminate, and segregant race
relations of America in the 1930 s regarding the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird,
greatly vary from the present day.
The insightful novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, gives a window into the past of cruel
race relations. The novel uses Tom Robinson s court case, the most prominent
example, along with others. Atticus, Scout s father and lawyer, is defending an
African American in court against the charge of rape of a white woman (Lee 100).
He makes a cogent case demonstrating his innocence. The single reason Atticus
loses his case and Tom goes to jail is due to the terrible tension between whites and
blacks. In this setting of white supremacy, blacks are wrong in every aspect of life,
and are always put less than second. When the character Aunt Alexandra pays
visitation to Scout, Atticus and Jem she aims to dismiss Calpurnia, the black maid;
the only motherly figure the two children have and love because Alexandra seems it
be best to have them to be raised by a white woman. Atticus shoots down her
intentions by saying she s an integral member of their family and
25. Old Yeller Analysis
Old Yeller is a coming of age novel set in 1860s Texas that details the relationship
between the Coates family, especially the 14 year old son, Travis, and a stray dog
named Old Yeller. The dog is named both for his dingy yellow coat ( yeller as
pronounced in the southern accent that permeates the narrative) and his bark, which
sounds more like a yell than the standard animal call. Yeller comes into the Coates
familys life after Jim, the father of the family, leaves on a cattle drive to Kansas.
Before he leaves, Jim tells Travis that he is now the man of the house until he
returns home, a designation which motivates Travis to take responsibility and make
sacrifices for the good of his family. If Travis can prove himself worthy of the
designation of being a man, his father promises to give him a man s horse.
Although the Coates family is at the center of the narrative, it is Travis relationship
with Yeller that is the focus. When Yeller is first introduced, Travis not only finds
him to be a nuisance but actively despises him. The first time the dog is seen by
Travis and the reader is the day after Jim has left the family. Yeller has devoured a
piece of meat that the family was about to prepare for a meal. Yeller continues to
cause trouble, with only younger brother Arliss devotion to him keeping Travis from
pushing him away from the household.
Travis changes his stance only after Yeller displays his singular heroism and instinct.

I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to
enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day. (White). Elwyn was a great and
always full of humor and that came out especially in his writings. All growing up I
read a lot of his books because they were books that were in the family for a long
time and every one of my siblings read them growing up. They were books that we
passed down because they were some of the best books for kids to read when they
were old enough to understand what they were about. E.B White always had a
sense of humor in his writings. It was something that could never be copied in the
same way that he would write. E.B White was born July 11, 1899 in Mount
Vernon, New York. He lived with his mother Jessie Hart and his father Samuel
Tilly White. His father was a piano manufacturer but it was never clear as to what
his mother had for a job. It could have been that she never a job considering the
time period that White grew up in. He was one of six kids having two brothers and
three sisters. Although having six children would make it pretty close to having a
full time job, so I would find it pretty hard to find a job of caring for the family. His
parents named him Elwyn Brooks White, but he was not the biggest fan of it. He
states that, I never liked that Elwyn. My mother just hung it on me because she d
run out of names, he told The New York Times in 1980 ( Elwyn Brooks White ). On

27. Status Hierarchy In One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest
Throughout the movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, you see many examples of
status hierarchy, depersonalization, adjustment, and institutionalization. These
patients are subject to anything people in charge tell them to do. Adjusting to the
system is very hard, especially when you are surrounded by others with different
minds. Status hierarchy is how you are looked at by others that surround you.
Depending on your placement or status, you will be looked at differently. One
example of status hierarchy is Harding, he likes to have complete control in most
situations and believes he is above most due to his mindset being no as messed up.
Another example is McMurphy, he goes in knowing he is not a lunatic, so that puts
him in a more powerful
28. A Child s Brain Is Critical To Brain Development
Studies have shown that the first three years of an individual s life is critical to
brain development. These three years are the most important. The brain shapes the
basis for what is to come later on in an individual s life. The child s brain is very
fascinating. It is fabricated of diverse parts that control feelings, judgement, language,
memory, behavior, and motor skills. The brainhas different areas that are intersected
circuits. This bases the mind to develop stronger or weaker depending on the
experiences of a child.
To start off with a child s brain, you have to know all the parts to it. Starting with the
brainstem, located at the top of the spinal cord near the neck, is the most significant
part of the brain to cultivate at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cerebellum is very important because it is the reason for learning whether it is a
language or a skill.
It gets its name from its location, the temporal lobe, controls hearing, smell, and
verbal understanding. This is where learning, memorizing, and demonstrative
reactions take place. Out of all five senses, hearing is the first to completely
cultivate in a baby. This is why a baby cries when born because of everything going
on around him or her. Smell also develops early in your infant s life. Newborns react
to smells on their first day also. Shockingly, a lot of a baby s progress occurs long
before he or she is even born.
The occipital lobe, also located near the back of the head controls vision and gives
the capability to comprehend what an individual is seeing. This may come as a
surprise, but a baby s vision is the least developed out of the five senses. They can
only see up to fifteen inches away. Everything is kind of one big blur to them. The
most they can make up is movements of shapes. This is because the neural
pathways that communicate graphic material to the brain aren t fully developed
yet. Thankfully the occipital lobe makes it possible for pathways to develop,
making the baby see a assortment of objects. This is where practice makes perfect
comes in. With the baby being around new things by 8 months it will be able to see
as well as
29. Howard s Utopia Essay
The notion of Garden City , famously explored by Ebenezer Howard was a solution
intended to bring together the economic and cultural advantages of both city and
country living. He sees it as an alternative to the congested urban areas in England.
Canberra the capital city of Australia differs from the garden cityproper, a city that is
perhaps not what Howard wished garden city to be. Nonetheless Canberrais a city that
incorporates many of the garden city principles and in this essay I will argue that
Canberra indeed is a garden city, as Canberra is build on central garden city concepts
such as public ownership of land, limited growth and population in the city and a
balance between town and country. Whilst Canberra may not be a true... Show more

However, this system did not benefits citizens in any collective ways and is
gradually been abolished (Czamanski and Benchetrit 2004). Howard s vision of
social reform achieved through community ownership of land never materialised.
While Canberra was deeply touched by his idea, yet the direct economic impact is
some what minimal.
Garden city was subject to limited growth and limited population. Howard (1965)
anticipated that the garden city would have a population of 30,000 32,000 in the
town and other 2,000 in the agricultural lands. When the city reaches its limits, it
would replicate itself in a new community separated by a greenbelt yet connected
by railways. The published sketch in figure 1 suggests the garden city to be
circular, though Howard (1965) conceded that the shape was suggestive. Canberra
was not expected to be a large city. Still, Griffin planned the city for 45,000, this
was reached by 1960. By 1965 it was 78,000 and in 2004 the population was around
330,000. The population is anticipated to grow to 500,000 in the next 25 years.
(Firth n.d) This does not show any indication of limited population that Howard
wants in the garden city. Nevertheless, the National Capital Development
Commission (1984) did took the ideas of Howard s garden city growth concept
refined it and developed the Y Plan as a strategy to cope with Canberra s long term
30. John Stuart Mills View On Solitary Confinement
Solitary Confinement: A Utilitarian s Perspective
The United States prison system has many flaws that need to be addressed but for
the sake of the length of this essay I will only address one. Solitary confinement is
the practice of locking inmates in cells roughly six foot by nine foot for twenty two
to twenty four hours a day. These cells have a bed, toilet, and sink within them and,
for the most part, are windowless. Inmates in solitary confinement are allowed zero
human interaction other than their escort by two armed guards to their yard activity
one hour a day. In this essay, I will show that solitary confinement is immoral when
judged by John Stuart Mills account of utilitarianism. I will discuss three factors of
the practice that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitations the cost
of housing an inmate in solitary confinement is nearly double the cost of housing a
level one inmate. In 2010 2011 it cost $43,640 to house a level one inmate and a
staggering $70,641 to house an inmate in solitary confinement at Pelican Bay.
(CDCR 2) These cost do not include the cost of training guards to handle maximum
security inmates nor does it include the cost of hourly wages for the guards. These
figures also do not include the cost of construction of the maximum security cells. For
example, Wisconsin s Boscobel supermax facility was built to house 500 people at a
cost of $47. million (in 1990 dollars), or over $95,000 per bed. (solitary watch) John
Stuart Mill contentd that the greatest utility is not measured individually but
collectively; ... the utilitarian standard; for that standard is not the agent s own
greatest happiness, but the greatest amount of happiness altogether. (Mill 11) Thus,
the happiness of all citizens must be collectively judged. Consequently, the net
pleasure of all citizens is decreased by the immense cost of isolation. Partially due to
the cost factor alone and partially due to the cost factor with the outcomes
31. Summer Camp For Foster Kids Essay
There are many benefits of summer camp for foster kids and their foster parents.
For the parents, fostering is not always the easiest task. You can love your foster
child with everything in you, but fostering comes with its own set of challenges
and everyone needs the occasional break. The child can go and have a positive
experience at camp, while the foster parents destress and take some time for
themselves. Top 7 Benefits of Summer Camp for Foster Kids Siblings: Summer

Their social skills might not be where they should be for their ages. However,

time. Even though officials might have the best of intentions, there are times that
the child goes back into a home that is still dysfunctional or becomes that way
again. Summer camp gives the child happy memories to focus on during this
difficult times. A Fresh Start: Another one of the benefits of summer camp for
foster kids is that it allows the child to come to a place where no one knows him or
her. No one knows what went on before this day. If the child has acted out at
school, he has a chance to start fresh at camp with a new attitude. Like Other Kids:
Summer camp is something many kids put on their summer bucket lists. Attending
summer camp allows a foster child that sense of being just like all the other kids out
there. His life might be insane at home. He may have to overcome challenges, but he
is going to summer camp just like John and Susie in his

Abraham Lincoln was born to Thomas and Nancy (nee Hanks) Lincoln in Sinking
Spring Farm, Kentucky on February 12, 1809 in a cabin in the backwoods three
miles south of Hodgenville (McPherson). His family lived meagerly with his clothes
being fashioned from the skins of animals his fathers shot down. He helped his
parents around the house weeding the garden, bringing in firewood and water,
gathering wild grapes from the woods, and helping to sow seeds at planting time
(Thomas, 2008). Years later when Lincoln was running for Presidency of the United
States, a campaign biographer, John Locke Scripps, asked him about his childhood
years in Kentucky. Without hesitating, Lincoln replied: Why, Scripps, it is a great
piece of folly to attempt to make anything out of my early life. It can all be
condensed into a single sentence and that sentence you will find in Gray s elegy The
short and simple annals of the poor (2008). In the spring of 1811, the Lincoln family
moved to a farm in Knob Creek the first home that Lincoln states remembering.
There was a trail the Cumberland Trail that ran from Louisville to Nashville close to
their farm on which pioneers with wagons and driven livestock headed for the
Northwest. There were also peddlers with their wares, preachers, and lines of slaves
all tied together following their masters (Thomas, 2008). There were not many slaves
that lived around Lincoln s farm mainly because of the sentiment among the
Methodists and particular the Baptists,
35. Ammonium Nitrate Lab Report
Organic sources of nitrogen have shown to assist the development of many different
plants, such as spore germination. An experiment was conducted to see if ammonium
nitrate would indeed help with spore germination pertaining to the C Fern,
Ceratopteris richardii. The experiment consisted of two different dishes, each
containing a different culture one with ammonium nitrate and the other without. It
was hypothesized that the control group, the petri dish without the ammonium
nitrate, will have a higher rate of germinated spores compared to the experimental
group, the petri dish with ammonium nitrate. The results revealed that although in
each group the control had more geminated spores that there was no significant
difference or variance. So the hypothesis was correct in terms of which would have
more geminated spores. All in all, the experimental design had several openings for
error so if the experiment were to be repeated a more controlled environment should
be used. Vascular plants have been around for millions of years and have
revolutionized the world s ecology ever since their first appearance. A prime example
of a vascular plantwould be ferns, which was one of the first known vascular plants on
earth. Two characteristics that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was done by having two petri dishes one with ammonium nitrate, experimental,

period of time (C Fern?, 2014). Therefore, my hypothesis is that the control group, the
petri dish without the inorganic nitrogen, will have a higher rate of germinated spores
compared to the experimental group, the petri dish with inorganic nitrogen

Jim Jones and Jesus Christ, two names of two very known people, they share many
similarities. Yet only own of them is praised and the other is demonized. Even
comparing the two is almost forbidden, how could someone compare the savior of
mankind and a man who is responsible for the death of hundreds? Both managed to
gain a large following, had people who feared them, and they both made the ultimate
sacrifice. While they share many similarities they both are remembered very
differently. Jesus is known as the savior of all and he is celebrated furiously, while

for healing the sick and blessing the poor, Jim Jones will only be remembered for

37. Three Studies on Climate Change
These three studies investigated the effects of climate change, and in particular
increased temperatures in intertidal zones. The study conducted by Bertness et al
worked to quantify thermal stresses on rocky intertidal organisms. The species that
was focused on was Semibalanus balanoides at sites north and south of Cape Cod.
The team analyzed the relationship between thermal stress, population density and
individual organism survival rates. While the study conducted by Bertness focused
on increases in environmental temperatures, the study conducted by Helmuth and his
team investigated the effect of increased global temperatures on the body
temperatures of organisms, which is ultimately capable of altering their physiological
activities and functioning. The team used a heat budget model to collect data in
relation to mussel body temperature at three different tidal elevations along the coast
of California, all of which are also exposed to different ambient temperatures, light
intensity, wind patterns, waves, and tidetiming. The study conducted by Barry et al
also investigated intertidal communities, but focused on the range shifts of intertidal
species between 1931 and 1933, as well as 1993 and 1994. It was noted that species
shifted their ranges northward, which is consistent with global warming models and
other studies that have observed range shifts in recent years. Forty five species were
investigated within California intertidal communities. Along with this presented

Why the Proper Treatment of Veterans with PTSD will Reduce the Rate of Suicides
Soldiers who return home may not only have physical setbacks, but are mentally
traumatized from what they have witnessed while serving our country. Veterans are
more prone to be diagnosed with PTSD due to the combat they experience or witness
on the field. Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in veterans has been prevalent for
decades and there is still no known treatment option that has been found entirely
effective. Many Vietnam veterans who never sought treatment due to the nonexistent
support for the troops have been covering up their symptoms for approximately forty
years. Countless soldiers return home without jobs and some feel like their whole

This may be due to the fact that veterans who served in the Vietnam war weren t
respected by the majority of our country. When some Vietnam veterans returned

civilian routines (Desai et al.) The majority of the country was against the war
towards the end due to the financial aspects it took in order to join the war. When
some veterans came home they had no one to talk to and minimal support. As a
result, they felt like they could not seek help in fear of being judged or looked at as

veterans back as heroes. Many veterans were attacked personally by their fellow
countrymen, who opposed the war (Vietnam). As a result, numerous Vietnam
veterans are now seeking treatment due to the number of treatment options.
Many factors can lead a veteran with PTSD to consider or commit suicide. An
average of twenty veterans commit suicide each day (Office of Public and
Intergovernmental Affairs). Not only is it personal pride, there is also a social
stigma behind veterans needing support from others. This is because society gives
veterans a strong reputation leading them to feel humiliated if they need someone to

Toni Cade Bambara has quite a unique style of writing. She does not have the
typical proper style as other authors do, which shows drastically in her short story
The Lesson. Bambara was born in New York and grew up in Harlem which explains
her high influence of writing about African American lifestyles. In The Lesson she
writes about a povertystricken African family who meet a rich woman that moves
into their neighborhood to teach the children. Bambara s unique voice comes to life
in this short story when she uses informal words and phrases, has a relaxed and
informal tone, and incorporates irony into her story. Using all of these components
make for an outstanding story and makes it more realistic and somewhat more
relatable. Unlike many authors, Bambara gets into the... Show more content on

the central focus of the economy. Since the gold standard had crushed, the US dollar

This decrease can be due to the economic problems that the United States faced
during the decade of the 2000 s, the Financial Market Crisis, and is still battling to
recover from, or due to the increase of power and popularity of other countries and
their currencies, such as the countries that make up the European Union
(Goldberg). The concept of the world money is organically linked to an
understanding of the world market as the fundamental framework of global
capitalism where profit rates are equalized and an average world market rate of
profit is established (Ivanova 51 52). The world market became the main focus of
the world s super power countries as well as developing countries. As Karl Marx s
theory of money establishes, money is not only a measure of value or a medium of
change, when it becomes world money, it becomes the absolute social
materialization of wealth as such (universal wealth) (qtd. in Ivanova 51). One of the
main characteristics of world money that applies to the US dollar today is that it is a
dominant currency in international financial markets that is also used hand to hand
in foreign countries (Auboin). Bitcoin was created in 2009 as an international
currency to make digital transactions easier and faster(Yellin). This computerized
money exists only as strings of digital code ( A New Specie ). This currency is used
