Weight Loss In America
Internet Activity #11 Weight loss is a large problem in America, since most Americans are overweight
or obese. There are a number of reasons that losing weight can be a challenge. There are many
possible reasons for people to start dieting, ranging from health reasons to outside influences. There
was a study done on men to see how changing their diet would affect their personalities. During this
study, they were given normal amounts of food while their personalities were studied, then compared
to their personalities when the amount of food was cut in half. The study shows that extreme
emotional agitation occurs when food is withdrawn. The men in the study became less social, and
more obsessed with food. They talked about it more, daydreamt about it more, and even wanted to
learn about cooking. These men also showed signs of depression and anxiety. Although many cheated
during the experiment, they felt guilty about it. After the study was done, some of the men kept in
touch with the researchers. Many of them had newly started to worry about their body shape and size.
After their restricted diets were over the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of the commercials, shows, and advertisements we see have something to do with weight.
Celebrities are on the front page of a magazine every time they gain a few pounds, and there are
weight loss commercials on during almost every television show. With all of the outside pressure to
tell you to be skinny, people can be easily influenced. However, all of this pressure can be too much,
and dieting and weight loss can go too far. Eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia can arise
when people take their weight loss goals too far. People that have these kinds of disorders tend to see
themselves as fat or weighing too much, even if they are severely underweight. A person s mental
image of their body size can have a large effect on their eating and dieting habits, whether it be good

Also a very clever thing, Corll forced his victims to call or write to their parents explaining why they

murdering young men he often changed addresses. Until he moved to Pasadena in 1973 he had always
lived around Houston Heights. a 18 year old college freshman name Jeffrey Komen was corll s victim

University of Texas to his parents home in Houston he was dropped off alone at the corner of
Wertheimer Road and South Voss Road near the Uptown area of Houston. He offered to drive Konen
to his parents home. David Brooks told the police to the body of Jeffrey Konen on August 10, 1973.
His body was buried at High Island Beach. Forensic scientists concluded that the had died of
suffocation caused by physical strangulation and a cloth that was placed in his mouth. His body was
found buried beneath a layer of lime, wrapped in plastic ( The Party ).
On December 15, 1970, Brooks s lured two 14 year old bo)ys named James Glass and Danny Yates
away from a religious rally held near Houston Heights to Corll s apartment. They both were tied to
opposite sides of Corll s torture board and then raped strangled and was buried in a boat shed.

Major League Baseball Salary
Major League Baseball Salary
1/C Morris, 2/C Morris and 2/C Turner
Major League Baseball players average just over four million a year making it the second highest
paying sport. Players determine win loss records which drives ticket sales which creates revenue and
so on. This is why player salaries is one of the most critical aspects of running a MLB team. These
salaries are negotiated using statistics such as batting average, on base percentage, hits and more.
When negotiations are not working, an arbitration process is used which is unique to the MLB.
Within Major League Baseball there are two trade deadlines. The first is July 31 (or August 1 for leap
years) and the second is August 31. Before the July deadline, teams face no penalties or additional fees
in trading. However, after July 31 and before August 31 trades can take place with waivers and
additional fees. While this discourages trades after the July 31 deadline, if a player is truly desired by a
team, especially in the upcoming postseason, no barrier will prevent a team from acquiring that player.
After the world series free agents are free to move from team to team. For roughly five days teams
will try and negotiate a new contract with their expiring players. Most of the time this works but if a
contract cannot be reached salary arbitration is used. Both the player and the team will present a
proposal salary to the arbitrators who then select the proposal they believe to be the fairest. Arbitration
is rare

The Chemistry Of Natural Waters Lab
In the Chemistry of Natural Waters Lab we were to collect a sample of water, ranging from a fountain,
stream, bottle, or tap water. After we collected the samples we all did many tests to see what the
hardness was for each one. Water hardness is determined by the amount of Calcium and Magnesium
in the water.(2) Water that has more Calcium or Magnesium is considered to be harder than water with
less of those two elements. When you use soap and detergent, this is where you see water hardness
coming into play in everyday life when you are washing things. During the experiment we found out
whether the samples had solutes in them by evaporating them and seeing what type of residue is left
behind. These materials that are left behind are called TDS (Total Dissolved Solids.) EDTA was one of
the tests that we used to test the hardness of the water. C10H16N2O8 is EDTA which stands for
ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid and this would be the chelating agent in the complexation tritation.
EDTA provided us with a number for the residue remaining. Another indicator for water hardness is
EBT (Erichrome Black T.) Then next way that we determined the hardness of water was through
Atomic Absorption spectrophotometry (AA). The way that this hardness is determined

Arts Education
Introduction
When you think about the purpose of education, there are three. We re preparing kids for jobs. We re
preparing them to be citizens. And we re teaching them to be human beings who can enjoy the deeper
forms of beauty. The third is as important as the other two, says Tom Horne, the state superintendent
of public instruction in Arizona.
Arts Education in the school system has been declining since the 1980 s. Budget cuts and standards
put in core classes like reading and math make it almost impossible to find a good arts education in
public schools. The money that was used to fund the arts programs is now being denied and being put
towards the classes that are being required to take standardized tests.
What most people don t know is that the arts help in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It estimated that since 2008, more than 80 percent of schools nationwide experienced cuts to their
budgets. Metla goes on to say, As a remedy in some instances, art programs were partially or
completely eliminated from affected school districts. People feel that arts classes are less important
than core classes. When it comes to picking which one stays and which one goes in a situation like
this, they feel that they are making the obvious choice by getting rid of the arts education courses.
Other reason that Metla talks about in her article, are the heavier standards put in the core classes, In
addition to less money being spent on education because of the recession, various government
policies, including the No Child Left Behind Act and the Common Core State Standards have placed
greater emphasis on core subjects, such as math and reading. In doing so, they have sidelined arts
education. Reasons the Neville

Projecting the effects of fire suppression and possible cumulative effects of fire suppression and other
disturbances are vital management tasks moving forward into forestry planning strategies for the
future. Although the long term effects of fire suppression in the Pacific Northwest have been
monitored since the early 1900 s, it is challenging to decipher relationships between the cumulative
effects of a century of suppression alongside climate change, insect outbreaks and disease and plan
how to combat them effectively.
Several software programs have been written and tested to simulate the future of these altered forests

The Help By Kathryn Stockett
For most women, whether you re an actress or whatever you do, there is this pressure in society and
within the world to look a certain way, dress a certain way, act a certain way, say certain things, and be
this idea as opposed to being a person. Amber Tamblyn
In the novel The Help, by Kathryn Stockett, the setting (1960 s, small town mississippi) helped us to
understand Stockett s purpose of highlighting the pressure society places on women, such as job
availability for women or need to marry. We all experience pressure from society in some aspects of
our lives but the difference, for women in particular, is that women have pressure from society in
every aspect of their lives.
We are first introduced to the theme of society s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is also shown when at The Benefit. Celia is described as being dressed in a sparkling hot pink
gown that shows too much skin and exposes too much of her body, while the rest of the women are
described as wearing dresses that hide almost all areas of their bodies. Ruffles clutch at her throat,
swathes of material hide her body. Tight fitted sleeves run all the way down her arm... Long kid
leather gloves ensure they don t have more than a few inches of epidermis exposed.
This highlights how little skin women felt was acceptable showing, especially in formal situations
Stockett uses the setting of Jackson, Mississippi in the 1960 s, to highlight and bring to attention how
stuck in the past, the people of Jackson are, in terms of their views on women s beauty.
The theme of society s pressure on women is developed into society s pressure on women in terms of
their roles in society. We are first introduced to this theme through Skeeter s mother. Her mother is an

daughter goes off to college and what does she come home with? she asks. A diploma? A pretty piece

mother s insistence that she needs to find a husband, instead of continuing her education and

The Role Of Periodontitis As A Risk Factor For Systemic...
Introduction
In this research paper, I will be writing about Periodontitis as a risk factor for Systemic Diseases. It
has been known that some systemic diseases alter the presentation and progression of periodontal
disease. Evidence suggests that periodontal disease may play a role as a risk factor in developing and
management of a serious systemic disease. Periodontal infections have been implicated in
cardiovascular disease, preterm and low birth weight infants, and bacterial pneumonia. In addition, it
appears to be more difficult to control non insulin dependent diabetes in patients with severe
periodontitis. The exact mechanisms of these interrelationships have not been determined, our
understanding of these increases in risk is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Poor periodontal health is a factor known to precede many heart attacks, and specific pathogens are
associated with coronary heart disease. Oral Manifestations
Mucosal ulceration, dental disease and other tooth abnormalities, oral soft tissue tumors, periodontal
disease, bone pathology, and orofacial pain may be directly related to or confounded by underlying
systemic disease. Numerous orofacial signs and symptoms are associated with systemic disease. The
most serious problems of concern to dental professionals include caries, oral ulcers, mucosal erythema
and sloughing, gingival bleeding and hypertrophy, soft tissue exophytic masses, dry mouth, facial
pain, movement disorders, tooth abnormalities, abnormal dental wear, tooth/mucosal discoloration,
developmental and bone pathology. ( Burgess, 2017) Once diagnosed, most periodontal diseases can
be treated successfully. The therapeutic goals in periodontal disease are: first, to alter or eliminate the
origin of the microbes as well as contributing risk factors, thereby preventing the progression of the
disease and preserving the healthy state of the periodontium. Second, the recurrence of periodontitis
must be prevented. Finally, in severe cases, regeneration of the periodontal attachments must be
attempted. The first

religion, Zoroastrianism is! I never knew this religion existed. The first time I heard the word
Zoroastrianisam it was a few months back when someone on Facebook was talking about Gal Gadot,
the actress that plays wonder woman and saying that she is Zoroastrian, like it was a bad thing. Then, I
found a chapter in my text book pertaining to Zoroastrianisam and I was excited to read the chapter,
just to see what they are talking about. I asked myself, why would this be a bad thing if someone is
Zoroastrian? I learned that this is probably the oldest monotheistic religion on the world and most
importantly, the base for 3 major religions. Judaism, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It dominated the world from 559 BCE to 651 CE. Just by reading the basics, we have seen many
similarities in all three of these religions. The most important one is of course the shared belief of an
almighty God, Ahura Mazda, Yehowa. The holy father is the one and only God in all three of these
regions. All three religions recognize the evil forces of the earth being led by one specific entity.
Resurrection, final judgment, hell, haven, and immortal soul, all of those elements essentially come
from Zoroastrian teachings and are very prevalent in Christianity and Judaism. The element of fire, if
you read how the bible describes judgment day, it is very similar to the Zoroastrian vision of the final
purification revelation, 20:11 15 speaking of the lake of fire. Christianity adopted several rituals from
Zoroastrianism, consisting of baptism, known in Zoroastrianism as a haoma ceremony, worshiping on
Sunday, and celibate priests that mediate between man and God http://www.cais

Organisation Cultures
Compare and contrast Handy s cultures and Deal Kennedy s cultures. In your opinion, which is a more
realistic representation of organisational culture? Justify and explain your answer. Organisational
culture is a shared value belief which binds the people of an organisation together to achieve a
particular objective. In the early 1980s organisational culture became increasingly considered as both
an obstacle to change and a vital ingredient of organisational success or failure (Ian Brooks, 2003).
Handy culture has social approach and focuses on the social factors. Whereas, Deal and Kennedy s
culture has management approach and focuses on what the managers want from a business, where
managers find problems in cultural field, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Handy identifies the factors which influence the type of culture found in an organisations, some of
which such as organisational size ,locus of power ,type and levels of technology and characteristics of
the business environment, will already be familiar to you. Similarly both theories believe that there are
four types of cultures but they have different approach as Deal Kennedy s culture is about four generic
cultures that are found in (Mullins 2010, p.741) which argues the risk involved in an organisation
activities and the speed which employees receive feedback on the success of decision and what a
manager want from a business. On the other hand, Handy cultures have social approach which seeks
to analysis the critical influence that an organisation might have. However organisation might not be
able to change people values and believes but organisation can set clear direction to their employees
about aims and objectives of the business which employees need to obey. On the one hand, Handy
links organisational structure to organisational culture. In addition, he argues that most likely the

Ernest Hemingway and Masculinity Essay
Ernest Hemingway and Masculinity
Ernest Hemingway, viewed as an American hero of his time, wrote novels that enrich the minds of his
readers, creating a lasting image that goes far beyond the actual content of the story. But while reading
Hemingway, I learned that his style was far from complex. Through pre meditated sentence structure,
he creates a rhythm that parallels the action in the story. He wants the sentences themselves to be easy
to understand, so the reader can use more energy focusing on the symbolism Hemingway s stories
create. He skillfully places symbols and metaphors throughout his novels. In his own writing,
Hemingway doesn t explain in detail his metaphors. Rather, he forces the reader to discover the ...

He compares sexually ability as a part of the masculine man. By having his main character Jake
Barnes impotent, Hemingway depicts a loss of masculinity that is common throughout his novels. He
also contrasts men and women who hold onto their masculinity and men who lose it. Through his
metaphors Hemingway uses empathy to draw the reader closer to the characters as they feel for their
suffering.
War, usually thought of as a masculine fight for glory, is reversed in Hemingway s writings. Instead of
men showing their masculinity, he portrays a war that takes away men s masculinity through injuries
that deprive them the rest of their lives.
Truly, A Farewell to Arms and For Whom the Bell Tolls force the reader to question the need for
sacrificing a man s life for a war. Is war worth dying over? The reader should note Robert Jordan s
suicide mission in trying to make this decision for himself. Jordan understood that there was little
hope of survival, and he cringed at the thought of not getting to live out his life with his new love
Maria. But in the end, he takes the heroes path and blows up the bridge, which costs him his life.
Not only did Jordan s efforts go in vain, since the bridge was far behind enemy lines and didn t do
much damage to the movement of the Fascists, but Jordan s allies, the Spanish Republic, never made
the offensive. The tragic death of Jordan leaves the reader wondering,

Racism In The Lion King
The Lion King was one of my favorite childhood movies because I never got bored of seeing it
countless times and it always made me cry when Mufasa died. Yet it s a very good movie for children
to understand morals/values though they will later come to understand how racist the movie is. The
movie is set in Africa, where there is this kingdom made up of lions. The king s name is Mufasa; he
has a son name Simba who he is going to be king in the future, but Mufasa s brother, Scar (the
antagonist) found out and killed Mufasa, making Simba run away to the wild. After Mufasa s death,

Another moral is that if you run from your past the past will be haunting you, when Simba runs away
from his past, he overcomes it by going to the proud land and challenging Scar for the throne. The

represents the life of Simba the stages of the circle of life. Some people arrive in our lives only to
satisfy their own vested interests; they try to persuade us to walk in the paths of evil and petty
(Kumar). This corresponds to Scar when he s trying to influence Simba to go to the hyenas. Be
obedient to your parents, if you are guilty of something never run away from it (Victorious). This

Elijah s God was Elisha s God! God utilized Elisha as His prophet for about fifty years.
Elisha died but his influence remained in a number of ways. God s power was shown when a dead

Project Evaluation And Selection Of Interconnected Projects
As traffic increases and links become congested, people may suffer delays and long travel time for
their daily trips. Planners may decide to improve this situation for people in the area. One of the
options for improving the conditions of traveling in the congested area is link expansion. Link
expansion projects in transportation networks are almost always interdependent. When capacity of one
link in a network changes it affects the flow of other links, and may shift bottle necks elsewhere
throughout the network. In other words with respect to this expansion in one link, flow in other links
may increase or decrease due to interdependency among them. So finding a sequence for a set of
improvement projects needs consideration of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Wang and Schonfeld. 2005) Along the same lines, simulation based genetic search can be time
consuming but with the advent of new technology and higher speed Processors, this problem is
becoming less significant. Existing Studies mainly focuses on selecting and scheduling of projects
with the assumption of being independent. There are two approaches which are commonly used for
solving project selection and sequencing. The first approach is integer programming (Weingartner
1966; Cochran et al. 1971; Clark et al. 1984; Johnson et al. 1985) and the second one is dynamic
programming (Weingartner 1966; Nemhauser and Ullman 1969; Morin and Esogbue 1971;
Erlenkotter 1973; Morin 1974). [2] The first defect of these approaches is the difficulty of capturing
the interdependencies among projects, and the second one is the inefficiency or even the infeasibility
of the results in the case of responding to larger problems. Martinelli (1993) proposed a heuristic
method for selecting and scheduling interdependent waterway investment projects. The results of this
method are based on an evaluation to compare various combinations of project implementation over a
time period. This method begins by establishing an initial sequence based on an independent
evaluation. Then the initial solution is adjusted by using a heuristic which performs a swap (or swaps)
in the sequence. This is done by plotting system cost

Space s Perception Of Space
Of defining space, the largest question Kant had to wrestle with was whether space was a property of
objects or a condition set in mental faculty. In order to determine this, space needed to be established
as it stands as knowledge. Kant defines space as a priori intuition of transcendental ideality.
Kant demonstrates that our sense of space cannot come from experience. When one perceives an
object they relate the sensations that coordinate to that object a place. For example, one gets the
sensation of the color of an apple and coordinates that color to the apple and the space that the apple
occupies, in order for the apple to be red. The color red corresponds to the apple while the color of the
table it is resting on coordinates to the table, keeping to two distinct positions in space. In order for an
individual to relate an object as outside of them, they must assign them to a place. If this is the case,
then space is a necessary base to one s perception of an object. So one cannot gain the intuition of
space empirically as space is necessary to one s experience of the external world in order to have
sensibility, or the faculty to passively know objects through sensation. Space is a condition to the
perception of objects rather than a property of the objects themselves so there cannot be a perception
of the objects without space. It is impossible to have a representation of there being no space, though
one can very well think of space without objects to fill it. (B39

to reduce the amount of recyclable items found in the garbage cans throughout school. In order to

Animal cruelty encompasses a range of different behaviors harmful to animals, from neglect to
malicious, brutal killings. Studies show that animal cruelty may lead to more serious forms of crime,
like heavy drug use, violent outbursts, and most common, cold blooded murder. Many studies in
psychology, sociology, and criminology during the last twenty five years have demonstrated that
violent offenders frequently have childhood and adolescent histories of serious and repeated animal

In the short story, The Flash , Italo Calvino explains how it is absurd for society to accept things for
the way they are. As a young adult I strive to become an individual within society; by creating my
own thoughts and taking responsibility for my own actions. However, Calvino highlights that we are
all conformed by society. We accept societal ways without the slightest contradictions: get a job, get
married, start a family, act normal, obey the law, yet there is no freedom, we are all damned to this
never ending cycle. The things I had once accepted suddenly made no sense. Why do I follow the
status quo ? Is there more to life than society s conformed corners? These questions are explained in

Calvino s notable use of paradox is evident when the narrator first claims [he] did not understand the

The Lymphatic And Immune System
The organs that make up the lymphatic and immune system are the tonsils, spleen, thymus gland,
lymph nodes, and lymphatic vessels. White blood cells (leukocytes), red blood cells (erythrocytes),
plasma, and platelets (thrombocytes) make up the blood. Lymphocytes are leukocytes (white blood
cells) that help the body fight off diseases. Two types of lymphocytes are B cells and T cells.
Lymphocytes recognize antigens, or foreign substances/matter, in the body. Lymphocytes are a
classification of agranulocytes, or cells ( cytes) without (a ) granules (granul/o) in the cytoplasm. B
cells are created from stem cells, which are located in the bone marrow. B cells respond to antigens by
becoming plasma cells. These plasma cells then create antibodies. Memory B cells produce a stronger
response with the next exposure to the antigen. B cells fight off infection and bacteria while T cells
defend against viruses and cancer cells. A hormone created by the thymus gland called thymosin
changes lymphocytes into T cells. The thymus gland is active when you are a child and slowly shrinks,
as you get older. T cells bind to the antigens on the cells and directly attack them. T cells secrete

Protectionism In Australia
On this week s issue of Historians Weekly we re finally going to be starting up our new and
anticipated series Policies of Aboriginal Australia . To start us off I will be looking at the policy of
protectionism and why it was replaced by the policy of Assimilation. The policy of protectionism was
introduced in 1869 and ended in 1937. The policy was established with the mindset of protecting
aboriginal people from white people due to the assumption that they were dying out. This is known as
Social Darwinism, people back then believed that the superior race (whites) would strive forward and
the inferior race (blacks) would eventually die out. The policy of protectionism gave police the power
to separate families and force Aboriginal people to live on reserves, missions or stations. The terrible
living conditions they were forced to live in caused a lot of physical as well as psychological damage
and because of this they did eventually start dying out to an extent. ... Show more content on

Each reserve was controlled by a white manager, or by the local police. The managers had complete
control over the lives of the Aboriginal people on the reserves, they basically owned them. They had
no citizenship rights, anything that Aboriginal people owned or earned came underneath the manager s
control. In some States the managers had more control than others, but normally the reserves were
more like a prison or labour camp than a home. Disease and the frontier war had so destroyed the
Indigenous population of Australia that it was believed Aboriginal people were dying out. The
reserves were seen as places for them to die in peace and comfort. The truth of the matter was that the
Indigenous population did not die out, it began to grow again. On the reserves they were now safe
from attacks by white settlers, but this

The Long Hour
I entered the room wincing with a feel of a deep pulsating sensation over my head. There is a feeling
that my head is bouncing like a ball in a soccer field and a constant blink blink sound is being
transmitted internally into my ears. The tingling sensations in my legs and arms with flashes of light
before the start of this sensation made me anxious. I looked around the room and saw few more people
sharing their pain and feelings with their loved ones. Everyone seemed in problem and is frowning
with the wrinkle on their forehead and a down slant lips. The room occasionally bursts into a laughter
followed by an awkward silence, as if everyone is trying to hear the sound of a dropped pin. Every

Every second was counting as a minute for me due to the nature of the pain in my head. There were
few people moving out of the doctor s room with some relieved face and many were entering in to join

young woman, in her twenties, with a short, silky red dress entered the room on her catwalk and a tack
tack tack noise of her boot echoed in the room. As she passed by the side, a gush of air whistled
through my ear and a sweet aroma of her fragrance activated my olfactory nerves. I closed my eyes
and felt a great relief on my head. As I closed my eyes, a vivid picture of the beautiful girl revolved
around my eyes and the pulsation of the head decreased. It was a relaxing and an exciting moment
amidst the agony. When I opened the eyes, she was sitting in front of me, but the head again started
pulsating; felt like the rolling of a boiling water and the bright light was disturbing me. I quickly
contracted my periocular muscles to keep my eyes semi closed so that only a fraction of the light
enters my aperture. It led to a self realization of a vital fact that a momentary relief of the throbbing
pain was not because of that sweet fragrance and the beautiful woman, but it was due to the darkness
in my eyes. A partial cure of my suffering amazed me and waited eagerly, with eyes closed and ears

Critique of employee should be given on the important aspects and examples of each strength and
weakness that has occurred during the time before the evaluation. Employees may become defensive
if there is no credibility on what is given to the employee in the evaluation. The raise of a salary of an
employee usually has a short term impact on motivation, the overall views of the manager has the
greatest and long term impact on the employee to further improve the employee. Managers should use
the 360 degree evaluation process to provide adequate and excise information to each employee. This
process involves using multiple sources. The sources consist of peers, direct reports, supervisors,
customers, vendors, and human resources. The evaluation is done by the complete circle of sources.
The manager s involvements are to design, gather the information, and communicate the evaluation to
the employee. Managers using the 360 process will discover strengths, weaknesses, and expectations

Russia denied its involvement in the fighting in Eastern Ukraine. In the beginning, one explanation

paratroopers was arrested close to Mariupol, the Russian news stated they patrolled the border and got
lost (Bercean, 2016, Reisinger and Golts, 2014: 6). According to Bercean, Russia utilized the tactic of
plausible negation. For example, Putin himself answered a question regarding the new uniforms the

Thesis Statement Of Sweatshops
The Benefits Behind Sweatshops
Thesis statement: Sweatshops, when left to operate without government intervention, are the most
efficient way of out poverty.
Introductory rationale: When it comes to social justice issues, most people believe the government
needs to solve the problem. Social justice in sweatshops is no exception. In my research, I have found
that what people see as the cause of injustice in developing countries, sweatshops, are actually what is
responsible for lifting people up out of poverty. As a result, any sort of government regulation will fail
to solve the problem. The audience I am writing for is a diverse group of peers who are concerned
with social justice though they may have different solutions and beliefs about the topic. My goal in
this draft is to expand their knowledge and show them the benefits of not interfering with the free
market.

history took place in Pullman, Illinois. This labor strike, initiated by the American Railway Union
(ARU) and led by Eugene Debs against the extremely wealthy and powerful George Pullman and his
company, the Pullman Palace Car Company. This strike became a turning point in the national battle
regarding U.S. labor laws, and was instrumental in the regulation of corporations by the government.
The event that would eventually give birth to Labor Day took months of riots, struggles, and
ultimately, violence. It showed America how important the lives and wellbeing of American workers
was, and helped the nation recognize the rights that employees ... Show more content on

After gaining more fame and wealth, he started a family, and then created his own town. He passed
away in 1897 after suffering a heart attack, and his memory lives forever in history books as the man
responsible for the greatest and most far reaching of any strike on record in this country, (11
Carwardine). Pullman was known in his town as many things; powerful, intelligent, innovative but he
was also considered to be a terrible person. He was praised for creating a vast productive industry and
the creation of the Pullman Palace Car idea. However, as Carwardine recalls, the very qualities that
made him [Pullman] successful in life, have, untempered with nobler elements, placed him in his
predicament with the American public. Determination and resolution have turned into arrogance and
obstinacy, (28 Carwardine). He was an arrogant man, and if his attitude was different, perhaps the
Strike of the 1890s could have been prevented. The Pullman Strike happened in what s considered a
perfect storm, where all the circumstances kept aggravating the situation. A major part of this storm
was the Panic of 1893, an economic depression that lasted from 1893 to 1897. It began after the
failure of two of the nation s major employers, the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad and the
National Cordage Companies. Suddenly banks, steel mills, and railroads started going bankrupt. An

The Judgement Seat, By Oprah Winfrey
In Italy the statement arose that made many people step back and take a look at their lives. This
statement changed how people today look at the others around them and that statement was, those who
live in glass houses shouldn t throw stones. This means if a person isn t perfect then they shouldn t
treat others like they should be. Our society today knows what it means to judge or to be judged and
that is why people are all living either in complete support of not judging people by their past or
choices and those who live judging others for their mistakes. It is important to live by, not throwing
stones when living in a glass house which can be shown through Judge Judy, Oprah Winfrey, The
Judgement Seat and the presidential debate

In The Judgement Seat Scaramastro shows us what it feels like when you ve been judged without the
other person knowing the situation. Scaramastro states I stood far from the judgement seat, Head
bowed in bitter shame within my head words echoed loud, for I d myself to blame. (Scaramastro).
This shows when you re judged that the words get stuck on repeat in your head and hurt you. When
someone is put into that situation Scaramastro gives you the picture of the affect left after a stone has
been thrown. Scaramastro says the following statement to give the visual of the power of words. The
poem says yet you had time for menial task, and time to exercise your mental powers on common
things your home to supervise. This statement means that once in silence you think about and evaluate
every word that s been said. Everyone has issues but no one knows the depth of someone else s. This
poem is displaying a person who has been torn down for their imperfections. Scaramastro says those
words which burned within my brain, verdict of guilty crime: no place, no hope, no righteous crown:
For you I have no time. (Scaramastro) When Scaramastro writes this he shows the issues people
struggle with are real and they tear people apart. When these things

Controlling Health Care Benefits Costs
Controlling Health Care Benefits Costs The topic that I will be discussing is Health Care Benefits
Costs. There are several different trends in the health care field that are used in business. Major issues
and obstacles are also very big regarding Health Care Benefits Costs. Controlling Health Care
Benefits Costs is a very important topic that is trending today throughout the world. Health Care
benefits costs are a systematic approach to estimating the strengths and weaknesses of alternatives that
satisfy transactions, activities or functional requirements for a business. It is a techniques that is used
to determine options that provide the best approach for the adoption and practice in terms of benefits
in labor, time and cost savings (Cost Benefit Analysis). Some companies compromise help with
medical costs. This depends on the company s policy. Either the employees can compensate a fee to
disregard the health care plan, while the company may choose to pay for the whole bulk of the best.
Also, the company may pay for everything. Employers often provide employees with sort of group
medical insurance, with the level of coverage depending on the status of the employee (Cost Benefit
Analysis). Part time employers have less of a privilege to receive benefits than full time employers.
Most companies offer managed care health coverage through HMOs and preferred provider
organizations, PPOs. HMO stands for Health Maintenance and PPO stands for Preferred Provider

Working With Client Reflection
In participating in this experiment, it provided me hands on experience in dealing with a client. In the
process of working with my client, I frequently found myself very comfortable with the process; this
may have been mainly due to how cooperative my client Scott was. Although it was very comfortable
with him, I did find myself on occasion not knowing what say when he asked questions, but I did my
best to answer what I could and made it known that I did not know the answer, but was willing to do
some outside research. One of the first questions I can remember Scott asking me was, what is the
difference between each fruit and vegetables and what do they offer in terms of vitamins and minerals.
I did not know how to respond to this, so I replied ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His response was he appreciated how welcoming I was and how comfortable I made him feel. Some
other positive feedback he gave was; my honesty to questions I did not know about, he felt that I was
very knowledgeable, approachable, honest, reliable, and very people oriented. I also think I did well at
communication and getting the client to talk about sensitive information. Getting people to feel
comfortable is the first step to establishing rapport with your client. With that rapport comes trust and
understanding ultimately leading to more vulnerability and trust between the dietitian and client.
Another strength I think is important is approachability, if your client does not feel comfortable
talking to you and reaching out in times of need, then you won t be able to establish a rapport outside
a clinical setting.
During the second protocol, I noticed that I was good at suggesting alternatives foods and ingredients
in meal. When it comes to assessing your clients eating habits, finding ways and using tactics to
modify already existing diets, especially in case when dealing with diverse cultures and ethnicities is
very important. An example I mentioned to Scott during out appointments was discussing portion
sizes. During times when Scott would eat

Synopsis Of The s The Great Gatsby By F. Scott...
This is one of the stupidest plans you ve ever had. Have you even thought this through? You shook
your head in disbelief and glared at a very annoyed Bellamy. If you don t like my plan, why are you
here? Bellamy sassed, rolling his dark chocolate eyes in your direction. Pairing two kids who only
agreed to get those supplies was that they wanted to use those guns! They literally hate each other s
guts! Well no one asked you to speak, Y/N. Bellamy responded, not bothering to show you that he was
listening to what you were saying and turned around with a smug expression plastered on his face.
Bellamy definitely agreed with you on this but Kaleb and Sebastian were the only ones individually
willing to go and bring back the supplies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You try to hate him, but if you were honest with yourself, you d say that you have feelings for the
handsome rebel leader. The waterfall was truly magical. It looked as though it had a secret door
leading to the ocean when you stare at the aquarium blue water pounding down onto the rocks. If the
water wasn t ice cold, you d without a doubt be floating in the blissful rock pool at the bottom. The
flowers that grew on the land surrounding the waterfall were a creamy violet which smelt of sour wild
berries. You head over towards a large flat rock and sat down on it to relax your legs from the long
journey from camp. The rock was dented and smooth which made it extra comfortable to sit on. A
little while later, you heard rustling on the sand behind you. Instinctively, you slowly slide your hands
down your sides and reach your knife, taking it out of its holder which was attached to your belt for
convenience for such times like this. You quickly jump off the rock and spin yourself to face...
Bellamy? I thought you were a grounder, asshole. You place your hand on your chest in an attempt to
slow your fast heartbeat, putting your knife back in its holder with the other. I should ve said
something... You do realise I came here to get away from you, right? I figured... Bellamy let out in a
whisper feeling more hurt by your comment than he expected. You raise your eyebrows at him for him
to explain himself. Do you remember when we

Mozart Clarinet Concerto Essay
Introduction
One of the problems clarinetists of the 21st century face when performing Mozart s Clarinet Concerto,
K. 622, is creating a performance that is memorable while keeping the authentic integrity of the work.
Many clarinetists who perform this work are often concerned with how they should the approach and
execute the concerto. Any musician who tackles any new work will approach it by researching
historical information on the composer and work, do a musical analysis, and gathering recordings of
other interpretations of the same work. This approach will not only allow the performer to be fully
immersed in the piece but allow for the performer to create a memorable interpretation.
For a clarinetist to perform the clarinet concerto ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He first decided to use the clarinet in his composition of Divertimento, K 113, due to the singing
qualities it possessed. He composed the Clarinet Concerto in 1791 for a clarinetist by the name of
Anton Stadler. The concerto was on one of the Mozart s last compositions and his last concerto for a
solo instrument. The composition of the piece began in 1787 for basset horn in G with about 200
measures and then was revisited in the last few weeks of Mozart s life in 1791.
When he returned to the piece in 1791, Mozart decided to change the key and the instrumentation of
the piece. The key was changed from G major to A major and the instrument of choice was the basset
clarinet in A. Stadler designed the basset clarinet. Compared to the current clarinet, the basset clarinet
had a range that was 2 whole tones lower than a normal clarinet. Francoeur s Diapason general gives
tonal qualities of various clarinets and describes the G clarinet s sound as sweet, sad, and lugubrious
(Lawson, pg. 29). When describing the tonal quality of the A clarinet, it I said to have a very sweet
sound, [that it] much less somber than the G and with a great range (Lawson, pg.

Effects Of Post Colonialism
Postcolonialism
The term postcolonialism has become so diverse and unorganized that it is somehow impossible to
define it clearly or describe what its study may imply.
Postcolonialism often means anti colonialism and is synonymous with post independence. This word
has variable implications and may refer to a collection of studies which are always changing. Loomba
(1998) said that it is a vague condition for people anytime and anywhere all over the world . The
dependence of this theory on the literary, cultural and post structural theories makes it even vaguer (p.
17).
Post colonialism may then refer in part to the period after colonialism, but the question arise: after
whose colonialism? After the end of which colonial empire? Isn t it unacceptably ... Show more

He claims that this implication covers the fact that this word belongs to the political theory and that it
is also assigned to the period after decolonization (16).
The implications of post in postcolonialism have always been a matter of discussion. Most critics
claim that the word postcolonialism concerns the processes, effects of and reactions to colonialism
from the sixteenth century up to the neo colonialism of the present day.
Loomba (1998) believes that the post in postcolonialism has two implications. The first one is
temporal and indicates that post colonialism is the aftermath of colonialism; the second one is a
substitution for the first one and is a matter of discussion among critics. It somehow indicates that a
country can be both postcolonial which is formally independent and neo colonial which is culturally
and economically dependent (p. 7).
Childs Williams (1997) declared that one meaning of post in post colonialism can be related to those
theories which are not chronological but consider this word conceptually. In this sense it relates to
every text which its concept transcends or goes beyond the colonialism (p.

  • 2. Weight Loss In America Internet Activity #11 Weight loss is a large problem in America, since most Americans are overweight or obese. There are a number of reasons that losing weight can be a challenge. There are many possible reasons for people to start dieting, ranging from health reasons to outside influences. There was a study done on men to see how changing their diet would affect their personalities. During this study, they were given normal amounts of food while their personalities were studied, then compared to their personalities when the amount of food was cut in half. The study shows that extreme emotional agitation occurs when food is withdrawn. The men in the study became less social, and more obsessed with food. They talked about it more, daydreamt about it more, and even wanted to learn about cooking. These men also showed signs of depression and anxiety. Although many cheated during the experiment, they felt guilty about it. After the study was done, some of the men kept in touch with the researchers. Many of them had newly started to worry about their body shape and size. After their restricted diets were over the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many of the commercials, shows, and advertisements we see have something to do with weight. Celebrities are on the front page of a magazine every time they gain a few pounds, and there are weight loss commercials on during almost every television show. With all of the outside pressure to tell you to be skinny, people can be easily influenced. However, all of this pressure can be too much, and dieting and weight loss can go too far. Eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia can arise when people take their weight loss goals too far. People that have these kinds of disorders tend to see themselves as fat or weighing too much, even if they are severely underweight. Dean Corll and His Accomplice David Brooks Also a very clever thing, Corll forced his victims to call or write to their parents explaining why they just up so parents won t look for them bringing any attention to him. During the years of him murdering young men he often changed addresses. Until he moved to Pasadena in 1973 he had always lived around Houston Heights. a 18 year old college freshman name Jeffrey Komen was corll s victim back on September 25, 1970. Konen disappeared while hitchhiking with another student from the University of Texas to his parents home in Houston he was dropped off alone at the corner of Wertheimer Road and South Voss Road near the Uptown area of Houston. He offered to drive Konen to his parents home. David Brooks told the police to the body of Jeffrey Konen on August 10, 1973. His body was buried at High Island Beach. Forensic scientists concluded that the had died of suffocation caused by physical strangulation and a cloth that was placed in his mouth. His body was found buried beneath a layer of lime, wrapped in plastic ( The Party ). On December 15, 1970, Brooks s lured two 14 year old bo)ys named James Glass and Danny Yates away from a religious rally held near Houston Heights to Corll s apartment. They both were tied to opposite sides of Corll s torture board and then raped strangled and was buried in a boat shed. • 4. Major League Baseball Salary Major League Baseball Salary 1/C Morris, 2/C Morris and 2/C Turner Major League Baseball players average just over four million a year making it the second highest paying sport. Players determine win loss records which drives ticket sales which creates revenue and so on. This is why player salaries is one of the most critical aspects of running a MLB team. These salaries are negotiated using statistics such as batting average, on base percentage, hits and more. When negotiations are not working, an arbitration process is used which is unique to the MLB. Within Major League Baseball there are two trade deadlines. The first is July 31 (or August 1 for leap years) and the second is August 31. Before the July deadline, teams face no penalties or additional fees in trading. However, after July 31 and before August 31 trades can take place with waivers and additional fees. While this discourages trades after the July 31 deadline, if a player is truly desired by a team, especially in the upcoming postseason, no barrier will prevent a team from acquiring that player. After the world series free agents are free to move from team to team. For roughly five days teams will try and negotiate a new contract with their expiring players. Most of the time this works but if a contract cannot be reached salary arbitration is used. Both the player and the team will present a proposal salary to the arbitrators who then select the proposal they believe to be the fairest. Arbitration is rare ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Chemistry Of Natural Waters Lab Report Bailee Gunter 11/2/15 Exp. 10 The Chemistry Of Natural Waters Lab Chemistry 111 Section 107 Seung Yi Lee Group Members: Madison Haas Bethany Guillen Josh Grunden Karina Grullon Peyton Haefner The Chemistry Of Natural Waters Lab In the Chemistry of Natural Waters Lab we were to collect a sample of water, ranging from a fountain, stream, bottle, or tap water. After we collected the samples we all did many tests to see what the hardness was for each one. Water hardness is determined by the amount of Calcium and Magnesium in the water.(2) Water that has more Calcium or Magnesium is considered to be harder than water with less of those two elements. When you use soap and detergent, this is where you see water hardness coming into play in everyday life when you are washing things. During the experiment we found out whether the samples had solutes in them by evaporating them and seeing what type of residue is left behind. These materials that are left behind are called TDS (Total Dissolved Solids.) EDTA was one of the tests that we used to test the hardness of the water. C10H16N2O8 is EDTA which stands for ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid and this would be the chelating agent in the complexation tritation. EDTA provided us with a number for the residue remaining. Another indicator for water hardness is EBT (Erichrome Black T.) Then next way that we determined the hardness of water was through Atomic Absorption spectrophotometry (AA). The way that this hardness is determined ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Arts Education Introduction When you think about the purpose of education, there are three. We re preparing kids for jobs. We re preparing them to be citizens. And we re teaching them to be human beings who can enjoy the deeper forms of beauty. The third is as important as the other two, says Tom Horne, the state superintendent of public instruction in Arizona. Arts Education in the school system has been declining since the 1980 s. Budget cuts and standards put in core classes like reading and math make it almost impossible to find a good arts education in public schools. The money that was used to fund the arts programs is now being denied and being put towards the classes that are being required to take standardized tests. People feel that arts classes are less important than core classes. When it comes to picking which one stays and which one goes in a situation like this, they feel that they are making the obvious choice by getting rid of the arts education courses. Other reason that Metla talks about in her article, are the heavier standards put in the core classes, In addition to less money being spent on education because of the recession, various government policies, including the No Child Left Behind Act and the Common Core State Standards have placed greater emphasis on core subjects, such as math and reading. In doing so, they have sidelined arts education. Reasons the Neville ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Help By Kathryn Stockett For most women, whether you re an actress or whatever you do, there is this pressure in society and within the world to look a certain way, dress a certain way, act a certain way, say certain things, and be this idea as opposed to being a person. Amber Tamblyn In the novel The Help, by Kathryn Stockett, the setting (1960 s, small town mississippi) helped us to understand Stockett s purpose of highlighting the pressure society places on women, such as job availability for women or need to marry. Long kid leather gloves ensure they don t have more than a few inches of epidermis exposed. This highlights how little skin women felt was acceptable showing, especially in formal situations Stockett uses the setting of Jackson, Mississippi in the 1960 s, to highlight and bring to attention how stuck in the past, the people of Jackson are, in terms of their views on women s beauty. It has been known that some systemic diseases alter the presentation and progression of periodontal disease. Evidence suggests that periodontal disease may play a role as a risk factor in developing and management of a serious systemic disease. Periodontal infections have been implicated in cardiovascular disease, preterm and low birth weight infants, and bacterial pneumonia. In addition, it appears to be more difficult to control non insulin dependent diabetes in patients with severe periodontitis. All three religions recognize the evil forces of the earth being led by one specific entity. Resurrection, final judgment, hell, haven, and immortal soul, all of those elements essentially come from Zoroastrian teachings and are very prevalent in Christianity and Judaism. • 12. Ernest Hemingway and Masculinity Essay Ernest Hemingway and Masculinity Ernest Hemingway, viewed as an American hero of his time, wrote novels that enrich the minds of his readers, creating a lasting image that goes far beyond the actual content of the story. But while reading Hemingway, I learned that his style was far from complex. Through pre meditated sentence structure, he creates a rhythm that parallels the action in the story. He wants the sentences themselves to be easy to understand, so the reader can use more energy focusing on the symbolism Hemingway s stories create. He skillfully places symbols and metaphors throughout his novels. In his own writing, Hemingway doesn t explain in detail his metaphors. Rather, he forces the reader to discover the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He compares sexually ability as a part of the masculine man. By having his main character Jake Barnes impotent, Hemingway depicts a loss of masculinity that is common throughout his novels. He also contrasts men and women who hold onto their masculinity and men who lose it. Through his metaphors Hemingway uses empathy to draw the reader closer to the characters as they feel for their suffering. War, usually thought of as a masculine fight for glory, is reversed in Hemingway s writings. Instead of men showing their masculinity, he portrays a war that takes away men s masculinity through injuries that deprive them the rest of their lives. Truly, A Farewell to Arms and For Whom the Bell Tolls force the reader to question the need for sacrificing a man s life for a war. Is war worth dying over? The reader should note Robert Jordan s suicide mission in trying to make this decision for himself. Jordan understood that there was little hope of survival, and he cringed at the thought of not getting to live out his life with his new love Maria. But in the end, he takes the heroes path and blows up the bridge, which costs him his life. The movie is set in Africa, where there is this kingdom made up of lions. Some people arrive in our lives only to satisfy their own vested interests; they try to persuade us to walk in the paths of evil and petty (Kumar). This corresponds to Scar when he s trying to influence Simba to go to the hyenas. Be obedient to your parents, if you are guilty of something never run away from it (Victorious). Planners may decide to improve this situation for people in the area. One of the options for improving the conditions of traveling in the congested area is link expansion. Link expansion projects in transportation networks are almost always interdependent. When capacity of one link in a network changes it affects the flow of other links, and may shift bottle necks elsewhere throughout the network. Existing Studies mainly focuses on selecting and scheduling of projects with the assumption of being independent. There are two approaches which are commonly used for solving project selection and sequencing. The first approach is integer programming (Weingartner 1966; Cochran et al. 1971; Clark et al. 1984; Johnson et al. 1985) and the second one is dynamic programming (Weingartner 1966; Nemhauser and Ullman 1969; Morin and Esogbue 1971; Erlenkotter 1973; Morin 1974). [2] The first defect of these approaches is the difficulty of capturing the interdependencies among projects, and the second one is the inefficiency or even the infeasibility of the results in the case of responding to larger problems. Martinelli (1993) proposed a heuristic method for selecting and scheduling interdependent waterway investment projects. The results of this method are based on an evaluation to compare various combinations of project implementation over a time period. • 16. Space s Perception Of Space Of defining space, the largest question Kant had to wrestle with was whether space was a property of objects or a condition set in mental faculty. In order to determine this, space needed to be established as it stands as knowledge. Kant defines space as a priori intuition of transcendental ideality. Kant demonstrates that our sense of space cannot come from experience. When one perceives an object they relate the sensations that coordinate to that object a place. For example, one gets the sensation of the color of an apple and coordinates that color to the apple and the space that the apple occupies, in order for the apple to be red. The color red corresponds to the apple while the color of the table it is resting on coordinates to the table, keeping to two distinct positions in space. In order for an individual to relate an object as outside of them, they must assign them to a place. If this is the case, then space is a necessary base to one s perception of an object. So one cannot gain the intuition of space empirically as space is necessary to one s experience of the external world in order to have sensibility, or the faculty to passively know objects through sensation. Space is a condition to the perception of objects rather than a property of the objects themselves so there cannot be a perception of the objects without space. It is impossible to have a representation of there being no space, though one can very well think of space without objects to fill it. (B39 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Flash By Calvino In the short story, The Flash , Italo Calvino explains how it is absurd for society to accept things for the way they are. As a young adult I strive to become an individual within society; by creating my own thoughts and taking responsibility for my own actions. However, Calvino highlights that we are all conformed by society. We accept societal ways without the slightest contradictions: get a job, get married, start a family, act normal, obey the law, yet there is no freedom, we are all damned to this never ending cycle. The things I had once accepted suddenly made no sense. Why do I follow the status quo ? Is there more to life than society s conformed corners? These questions are explained in the text as a flash of clarity as we see the major flaws in society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Calvino s notable use of paradox is evident when the narrator first claims [he] did not understand the [reasoning] for things or for people; it was all senseless, absurd. The mindless acceptance of the way things are is similar to the setting portrayed in the blockbuster movie iRobot , featuring Will Smith as Del Spooner, a technophobic detective. In the world of iRobot , robots are mere possessions that aid humans with their everyday chores. These robots have superhuman strength and are programed to always obey and help humans to the best of their ability. In the movie, robots are seen as gifts that exist for the common good of society. White blood cells (leukocytes), red blood cells (erythrocytes), plasma, and platelets (thrombocytes) make up the blood. Lymphocytes are leukocytes (white blood cells) that help the body fight off diseases. Two types of lymphocytes are B cells and T cells. Lymphocytes recognize antigens, or foreign substances/matter, in the body. Lymphocytes are a classification of agranulocytes, or cells ( cytes) without (a ) granules (granul/o) in the cytoplasm. B cells are created from stem cells, which are located in the bone marrow. B cells respond to antigens by becoming plasma cells. These plasma cells then create antibodies. Memory B cells produce a stronger response with the next exposure to the antigen. B cells fight off infection and bacteria while T cells defend against viruses and cancer cells. A hormone created by the thymus gland called thymosin changes lymphocytes into T cells. The thymus gland is active when you are a child and slowly shrinks, as you get older. T cells bind to the antigens on the cells and directly attack them. T cells secrete lymphokines that increase T cell production and directly kill cells with antigens. There are three types of T cells: cytotoxic T cells, helper T cells, and memory T cells. HIV, or Human Immunodeficiency Virus, is an autoimmune disorder. To start us off I will be looking at the policy of protectionism and why it was replaced by the policy of Assimilation. The policy of protectionism was introduced in 1869 and ended in 1937. The policy was established with the mindset of protecting aboriginal people from white people due to the assumption that they were dying out. This is known as Social Darwinism, people back then believed that the superior race (whites) would strive forward and the inferior race (blacks) would eventually die out. The policy of protectionism gave police the power to separate families and force Aboriginal people to live on reserves, missions or stations. The terrible living conditions they were forced to live in caused a lot of physical as well as psychological damage and because of this they did eventually start dying out to an extent. ... • 41. Thesis Statement Of Sweatshops The Benefits Behind Sweatshops Thesis statement: Sweatshops, when left to operate without government intervention, are the most efficient way of out poverty. Introductory rationale: When it comes to social justice issues, most people believe the government needs to solve the problem. Social justice in sweatshops is no exception. In my research, I have found that what people see as the cause of injustice in developing countries, sweatshops, are actually what is responsible for lifting people up out of poverty. As a result, any sort of government regulation will fail to solve the problem. The audience I am writing for is a diverse group of peers who are concerned with social justice though they may have different solutions and beliefs about the topic. My goal in this draft is to expand their knowledge and show them the benefits of not interfering with the free market. I. This labor strike, initiated by the American Railway Union (ARU) and led by Eugene Debs against the extremely wealthy and powerful George Pullman and his company, the Pullman Palace Car Company. This strike became a turning point in the national battle regarding U.S. labor laws, and was instrumental in the regulation of corporations by the government. The event that would eventually give birth to Labor Day took months of riots, struggles, and ultimately, violence. It showed America how important the lives and wellbeing of American workers was, and helped the nation recognize the rights that employees ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After gaining more fame and wealth, he started a family, and then created his own town. He passed away in 1897 after suffering a heart attack, and his memory lives forever in history books as the man responsible for the greatest and most far reaching of any strike on record in this country, (11 Carwardine). Pullman was known in his town as many things; powerful, intelligent, innovative but he was also considered to be a terrible person. He was praised for creating a vast productive industry and the creation of the Pullman Palace Car idea. However, as Carwardine recalls, the very qualities that made him [Pullman] successful in life, have, untempered with nobler elements, placed him in his predicament with the American public. Determination and resolution have turned into arrogance and obstinacy, (28 Carwardine). He was an arrogant man, and if his attitude was different, perhaps the Strike of the 1890s could have been prevented. The Pullman Strike happened in what s considered a perfect storm, where all the circumstances kept aggravating the situation. A major part of this storm was the Panic of 1893, an economic depression that lasted from 1893 to 1897. It began after the failure of two of the nation s major employers, the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad and the National Cordage Companies. Suddenly banks, steel mills, and railroads started going bankrupt. An ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Judgement Seat, By Oprah Winfrey In Italy the statement arose that made many people step back and take a look at their lives. This statement changed how people today look at the others around them and that statement was, those who live in glass houses shouldn t throw stones. This means if a person isn t perfect then they shouldn t treat others like they should be. Our society today knows what it means to judge or to be judged and that is why people are all living either in complete support of not judging people by their past or choices and those who live judging others for their mistakes. In the process of working with my client, I frequently found myself very comfortable with the process; this may have been mainly due to how cooperative my client Scott was. Although it was very comfortable with him, I did find myself on occasion not knowing what say when he asked questions, but I did my best to answer what I could and made it known that I did not know the answer, but was willing to do some outside research. One of the first questions I can remember Scott asking me was, what is the difference between each fruit and vegetables and what do they offer in terms of vitamins and minerals. I also think I did well at communication and getting the client to talk about sensitive information. Getting people to feel comfortable is the first step to establishing rapport with your client. With that rapport comes trust and understanding ultimately leading to more vulnerability and trust between the dietitian and client. Another strength I think is important is approachability, if your client does not feel comfortable talking to you and reaching out in times of need, then you won t be able to establish a rapport outside a clinical setting. During the second protocol, I noticed that I was good at suggesting alternatives foods and ingredients in meal. When it comes to assessing your clients eating habits, finding ways and using tactics to modify already existing diets, especially in case when dealing with diverse cultures and ethnicities is very important. An example I mentioned to Scott during out appointments was discussing portion sizes. During times when Scott would eat ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Mozart Clarinet Concerto Essay Introduction One of the problems clarinetists of the 21st century face when performing Mozart s Clarinet Concerto, K. 622, is creating a performance that is memorable while keeping the authentic integrity of the work. Many clarinetists who perform this work are often concerned with how they should the approach and execute the concerto. Any musician who tackles any new work will approach it by researching historical information on the composer and work, do a musical analysis, and gathering recordings of other interpretations of the same work. This approach will not only allow the performer to be fully immersed in the piece but allow for the performer to create a memorable interpretation. He composed the Clarinet Concerto in 1791 for a clarinetist by the name of Anton Stadler. The concerto was on one of the Mozart s last compositions and his last concerto for a solo instrument. The composition of the piece began in 1787 for basset horn in G with about 200 measures and then was revisited in the last few weeks of Mozart s life in 1791. When he returned to the piece in 1791, Mozart decided to change the key and the instrumentation of the piece. The key was changed from G major to A major and the instrument of choice was the basset clarinet in A. Stadler designed the basset clarinet. Compared to the current clarinet, the basset clarinet had a range that was 2 whole tones lower than a normal clarinet. Francoeur s Diapason general gives tonal qualities of various clarinets and describes the G clarinet s sound as sweet, sad, and lugubrious (Lawson, pg. 29). • 48. Effects Of Post Colonialism Postcolonialism The term postcolonialism has become so diverse and unorganized that it is somehow impossible to define it clearly or describe what its study may imply. Postcolonialism often means anti colonialism and is synonymous with post independence. This word has variable implications and may refer to a collection of studies which are always changing. Loomba (1998) said that it is a vague condition for people anytime and anywhere all over the world . The dependence of this theory on the literary, cultural and post structural theories makes it even vaguer (p. 17). Post colonialism may then refer in part to the period after colonialism, but the question arise: after whose colonialism? After the end of which colonial empire? Isn t it unacceptably ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He claims that this implication covers the fact that this word belongs to the political theory and that it is also assigned to the period after decolonization (16). The implications of post in postcolonialism have always been a matter of discussion. Most critics claim that the word postcolonialism concerns the processes, effects of and reactions to colonialism from the sixteenth century up to the neo colonialism of the present day. Loomba (1998) believes that the post in postcolonialism has two implications. The first one is temporal and indicates that post colonialism is the aftermath of colonialism; the second one is a substitution for the first one and is a matter of discussion among critics. It somehow indicates that a country can be both postcolonial which is formally independent and neo colonial which is culturally and economically dependent (p. 7). Childs Williams (1997) declared that one meaning of post in post colonialism can be related to those theories which are not chronological but consider this word conceptually. In this sense it relates to every text which its concept transcends or goes beyond the colonialism (p. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
