Gonorrhea is caused by the bacterium Neisseria Gonorrhoeae, which can grow in warm, moist areas of the body like the cervix, urethra, throat, rectum, or eyes. Symptoms vary between men and women, and include abnormal discharge from the penis in men and abnormal vaginal discharge in women. Gonorrhea can be transmitted through unprotected vaginal, oral, or anal sex. It is treated with antibiotics, though prevention through abstinence or condom use is best to avoid transmission and reinfection.
