  2. 2. How does Shingles form? -The Shingles virus is caused by a virus, the varicella zoster virus which also causes the chicken pox virus.
  3. 3. How is the Shingles Transmitted? -After obtaining the chicken pox, the varicella zoster virus remains in the nerves of your body.
  4. 4. Who gets Shingles? - In most cases adults 50 or older are likey to obtain shingles. -It is very rare for children and adults in there 20's and 30's to get shingles -For example, there about 2.5 cases a year for every 1,000 people in the united states - I myself had shingles at age 14 which is extremely rare, i was the youngest person in my doctors offcie to have such disease.
  5. 5. Signs and Symptoms - Burning sensation -numbness -itching -bubbles and sore -crusting over -oozzing

Is Shingles Contagious - If you are around someone who has shingles you can not recieve them, you will recieve chicken pox in its place. - Shingles is brought out by a virus that sits in your nerves and is usually brought out by stress or infection. Also, sometimes by childhood cancers or AIDS
  7. 7. Can you become immune to Shingles? - Shingles can appear multiple times in one persons lifetime -The younger you are to obtain Shingles the better chance you have of them coming back, alot of times in the same areas.

What areas of the body are effected? -Doctors use a map of the body to show where shingles are mostlikely to form so they are eaiser to identify -a shingles break out ONLY forms on ONE side of the body in a band like form -The two most commom areas for a Shingles out break is on the lower back and face

Can they be prevented? -It is very unlikely to 100% prevent shingles -There is an antibiotic that can be taken to prevent them within the first 3 days of the outbreak, but it is very unlikely to recgonize the outbreak this early before it is in full swing -Treatments include pain patches and pain medicines such as vicodin
  10. 10. Course of Shingles -Shingles last from anywhere around 2-5 weeks -This disease may be very painful but is not close to terminal
