Gonorrhea is a common sexually transmitted infection that can often show no symptoms. When symptoms do occur in men, they may include burning during urination or discharge from the penis. In women, symptoms can include vaginal discharge or bleeding between periods. Untreated gonorrhea can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease and infertility in both men and women. It is treated with antibiotics, though drug-resistant strains are increasing. Pregnant women with gonorrhea risk transmitting it to their baby during childbirth, potentially causing blindness or joint infections in the baby.
