• Syphilis is serious but curable
disease caused by a bacteria
called Treponema pallidum . It
likes to live in human mouths
and genital areas. It is also
dangerous for the baby of a
pregnant women.

• Symptoms are often described
as flulike, with malaise,
headache, fever, and joint
aches. A skin rash often
appears, covering most of the
body. Sores may develop in the
mouth and throat and on many
of the mucous membranes in
the body.

• You can get it by sexual
intercourse

• You can prevent it by not having
sexual intercourse.

6. How to treat it
• Penicillin is the preferred
method of treatment for
syphilis. Other antibiotics
include erythromycin,
tetracyclines, and
chloramphenicol.
