This document provides information about several common sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, HIV/AIDS, HPV, herpes, and hepatitis B. It describes how each infection is spread and common symptoms. It also lists recommended antibiotic treatments for chlamydia and gonorrhea. The document stresses that early diagnosis and treatment are important to prevent long-term health issues from these infections. Regular STI testing is encouraged for sexually active individuals.
3. Chlamydia
• How is chlamydia spread? You can get chlamydia by
having anal, vaginal, or oral sex with someone who has
chlamydia.

11. • Genital herpes symptoms may include
• blisters
• burning feelings if urine flows over sores
• inability to urinate if severe swelling of sores blocks the urethra
• itching
• open sores
• pain in the infected area
• During initial herpes, symptoms may also include
• swollen, tender glands in the pelvic area, throat, and under the arms
• fever
• chills
• headache
• general run-down feelings
• achy, flu-like feelings
12.
13. • Treatment may include antiviral medications such as
acyclovir or valacyclovir.
14.
15. Genital Warts
• Genital HPV is spread through direct skin-to-skin contact
with someone who has an HPV infection. Contact
includes vaginal, anal, and oral sex. Some types
of HPV cause genital warts, which are hard, rough lumps
that develop on the skin. Anyone who is sexually active
can get HPV and genital warts
16.
17. • There are several medicines that can be applied directly
to genital warts, depending on where they are located.
Some prescription genital warts treatments can be used
at home. Other treatments must be applied by your
health care provider. Some genital warts treatments can
cause discomfort. And some cannot be used during
pregnancy.
18.
19. • Gardasil, also known as Gardasil or human
papillomavirus vaccine [types 6, 11, 16, 18], is a vaccine
for use in the prevention of certain strains of human
papillomavirus, specifically HPV types 6, 11, 16 and 18
20. • Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease caused by
bacteria that are passed sexually. It can infect the vagina,
anus, urethra, or penis, as well as the lips and mouth ,
and also skin to skin contact.
• Syphilis can be a serious health risk if it is not treated.
About 36,000 American women and men become
infected with syphilis every year.
21.
22. If diagnosed early, the infection can be treated with
penicillin. Doxycycline or tetracycline, along with other
antibiotics, can be used if the individual is allergic. Without
treatment, the infection can cause severe damage to the
heart or other organs in the body. It is not terribly hard to
miss the presence of syphilis in oneself, as many of the
symptoms are external. As soon as these symptoms are
noticed, it is necessary to consult a doctor for testing.
23.
24. • Unprotected Sex
• It is passed through an exchange of semen, vaginal
fluids, blood, and urine
• Sharing personal hygiene utensils such as toothbrushes
and razors
• Hepatitis B can also be passed from mother to infant
during birth.
• About 46,000 American women, men, and children
become infected with HBV each year. Most of these
infections occur among people who are age 20 to 49.
27. • Hepatitis-B is indicated for active immunisation against
Hepatitis-B infection in subjects considered at risk of
exposure to HBV-positive material.
