This document discusses the three main types of diabetes:
Type 1 diabetes occurs when the body does not produce insulin and patients require daily insulin injections. Approximately 10% of diabetes cases are type 1.
Type 2 diabetes is the most common, accounting for 90% of cases worldwide. It occurs when the body does not produce enough insulin or the cells do not properly respond to insulin. Being overweight or obese increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
Gestational diabetes develops during pregnancy when hormones prevent the mother's body from properly using insulin. Between 10-20% of gestational diabetes patients require medication to control blood glucose levels, while most can manage it through diet and exercise. Uncontrolled gestational diabetes can increase
