Class Struggle In Hamlet
Throughout history, class divisions have always been a big issue. Many works today display
social inequality; however, to realize it, one has to look through the right lens. Literary critical
lenses help to see a work from a different angle which leads to a better analysis of the
composition. There are many different lenses and aspects in literature, and one of them is the
Marxist Theory. Also known as the Conflict Theory, this idea claims that class struggle is a big
divider in society. Although it is more of a cultural idea, this concept also applies to literature. In
his play Hamlet, William Shakespeare clearly demonstrates the idea of class struggles; looking at
this composition through the lens of the Marxist Theory, one uncovers that the powerful ones
suppress and manipulates the others in an attempt to display their superiority. Class struggle is
really obvious in Hamlet. The royals exploit and use the lower class in order to achieve their
goals. People from the working class obey the Aristocrats commands and they do not have a big
importance in their society. The Aristocrats notably Hamlet, Claudius and even Gertrude oppress
others in order to get what they want and show that they are superior. Claudius kills his own
brother and marries Gertrude in order to have a better chance to be king since she is the the
imperial jointress, to the throne; he does not love Gertrude; he is using her to get the power (I.ii.9).
Even when he has the throne, he still wants more

Mississippi River Pollution
The Mississippi River originates in Minnesota and winds it way down to the Gulf of Mexico.
The Mississippi is iconic to American culture, and there is a fondness for the Old Man River;
where images of paddleboats and Tom Sawyer come to mind. What does not come to mind is our
nation s river is sick. According to a report in the St. Louis Dispatch, the Mississippi is the second
most polluted river in the United States, coming in just behind the Ohio River(Bernhard, 2012). The
Mississippi is experiencing a number of environmental problems from dead zones at the mouth of
the Mississippi, plagued with invasive species such as Asian Carp, to being contaminated with
industrial chemicals, raw sewage, agriculture pesticides, and plain old everyday trash.
The Mississippi is a fresh water ecosystem that is in danger of being polluted beyond repair. In
2010, more than 12.7 million pounds of toxic chemicals were dumped into the Mississippi River
(Bernhard, 2012). Fertilizer runoff is said to have created one of the largest dead zones, over
8463 square miles beginning at the mouth of the Mississippi River and extending into the Gulf of
Mexico (Dorsner 2015) Even though I live upstream from the majority of the contamination, we
are directly affected by the overall quality of fresh water. Some of these toxins are carcinogens.
Our national heath is affected. When the government gets involved in clean up, we all pay. Our
taxes pay for the cost of clean up and the cost of

The Eyes Were Watching God
At its first development and publishment, African American literature and works were originally
dedicated to the expression of their plight from slaves, to a second class, and eventually first
class citizens. However, many authors have been able to drift away from that cause and began
to express the importance of identity for individuals and how trials and experiences through life
can add to or detract from someone s personal character and define them as the best that they can
become. Author s of these works had usually conveyed a theme of being able to adopt a new
identity through the experiences that a character is able to face through their life. A well written
example of this would by in the story of Their Eyes Were Watching God, as the main character,
Janie, finds new loves in her life and with each new relationship is able to adopt an identity or add
onto her persona, as she adjusts to her new roles, such as becoming a mother, a wife, and an
independent woman. As she is married to her first husband, Logan, she works with him on the
farm performing daily duties, such as milking the cows (Morrison 73) or tilling the land (79).
However she didn t lovehim as a person, but she was promised by both Logan and her
grandmother then she would grow to love him (65), so as it was the role at the time to be the
faithful wife beside her husband. She eventually loses her sense of individuality as she begins to
venture less and less from the farm and begins to spend more

Mainstream Schooling Is Culturally Bound
In this essay I will address the ways in which mainstream schooling is culturally bound, and why
this is a problem for those who have disabilities. Mainstream schools can be determined as a school
of traditional education or a normal school (Spielgaben, 2015). This categorises mainstream schools
within New Zealand as schools of English medium that follow the New Zealand Curriculum and are
state schools. These English medium schools work with the National Standards system which set
specific expectations for students to have met in the key learning areas of reading, writing and
mathematics (Ministry of Education, 2012). This system is just one of the ways in which
mainstream schooling is culturally bound. The Oxford Dictionaries (2015) defines culturally bound
as restricted in character or outlook by belonging or referring to a particular culture. Due to these
schools following particular systems it makes it difficult to cater to the different groups that attend
these schools. The second way in which mainstream schooling is culturally bound, that I will
address, is that most often teachers in these schools do not have the time, resources or skills to
teach the diversity of disabilities due to a stronger focus of teaching by the curriculum. This results
in more efforts needing to be made to support those with disabilities. I will focus on the common
disabilities and special needs in the context of students in mainstream schools, such hearing
impairments, physical and

The Global Forex Is Not Foreign Essay
The word Forex is not foreign to many people. It means foreign exchange . It is the value of one
currency vis a vis another. For example, One US dollar is worth 62 INR as on date. But Forex
trading is not a term many people in a developing country like India is familiar with. Forex
trading is just like stock trading. Just like stock trading where a trader gains or loses money
with the rise and fall of the value of a particular share, through buying and selling in stock
exchanges across the world, in forex trading a trader gains or loses money with the rise and fall
of the value of a particular currency with respect to another, through buying and selling in the
global forex market. The only difference is stock trading is done on a single share, forex trading is
done on pair of currencies. For instance, USD/EUR is 1.042, which means one US dollar is valued
at 1.042 Euro. Now if someone buys US 100 dollars, by trading forex online at prevailing market
rate, then he gains if dollar becomes strong and loses if it becomes weak, which in simple terms
means if the price of one US dollar becomes more than 1.042 Euro, suppose 1.052, in forex
parlance called 10 pips, then the trader gains by selling $100 and vice versa. Trading Forex
Online is gaining more and more popularity as it can be done online 24/7, because unlike stock
exchanges around the world the forex market never sleeps. Moreover, the liquidity in forex markets
is higher because at any given point of time one can

Benefits And Rewards For Employee Benefits
Employee benefits are an essential component of an organization s total rewards strategy.
Today companies design benefits packages that are unique and rewarding in order to attract and
retain talented workers. In fact, employee benefits have evolved significantly over the years.
Employee benefits are no longer just the basics, such as healthcare and retirement plans.
Organizations are now expanding their benefits and rewards offerings to include creative
perquisites, such as onsite childcare, flexible work schedules, and employee game rooms.
Employers understand that to gain a competitive advantage in the war for talent, they must create
new and improved rewards for their employees. This paper will examine the innovative benefits and

Innovative benefits are the solution to meet employee demands. Innovative benefits are any
creative reward designed to provide employees with a special privilege, financial value, and/or
personal advantage. Innovative benefits include many employee perquisites, such as onsite
childcare, paid time off, employer matched charitable donations, discounted gym memberships, and
tuition assistance. Employees are attracted to organizations that create innovative benefits
packages. Organizations are creating and adopting innovative benefits in order to improve their
overall compensation strategies. Compensation strategy defines how an organization plans to
reward its employees for their time and efforts. An effective compensation strategy enhances (1)
talent management, (2) supports an organization s business objectives, and (3) provides
organizations with a return on their investment. Therefore, in order for innovative benefits to
enhance the competitiveness of an organization s overall compensation strategy, the benefits must
align with these three goals. First, innovative benefits plans can give organizations a competitive
advantage in recruiting, developing, and retaining talented workers. The war for talent in the
workforce is becoming more competitive. According to researcher Tapomoy Deb (2005) the

Pabl Neruda
In every person, a self which interacts with the world appears to live. However, what can one truly
classify as their persona? Cognitive scientist Bruce Hood defines illusion as, [the] experience of
something that is not what it seems. By this denotation, he classifies the ego as illusory; humans
naturally experience it, but it does not actually exist. Accordingly, in Pablo Neruda s The Egoist,
Neruda contrasts personal identity with the natural world, deeming abandoning one s individuality
a necessary step to obtaining lasting satisfaction with existence. Neruda conveys his idea as a
physician would a diagnosis; first identifying the problem s nature, then outlining its effects and
solution. The Egoist s first stanzas portray the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Defending his controversial position concerning ego, the Egoist asks, What can I do if every
movement / of my hand brought me closer to the rose (35 36)? Here, Neruda characterizes the
self as straining and limiting via metaphor: the Egoist s futile hand movements bringing him
closer to the rose reflect his attempts to resist the truth leading to uncovering his actual nature.
Then, once again reflecting the first stanza, the Egoist notes, This day equal to all others
/ descends the stairs that do not exist / dressed in irresistible purity (45 47). He thus satirizes
separateness as a concept by expressing a ridiculous scenario: a single day, naturally equal to all
others, attempting to place itself above other days by descending nonexistent stairs. Thus, he
corroborates human delusion, trying to place oneself above nature s whole. And, once again,
Neruda characterizes the ego, but through a different perspective. He explicitly notes its deceptive
purity, which allures its victims before corrupting them as portrayed in the third stanza. Finally, in
the poem s final sentence, the Egoist ponders, [If] I breathe my own air, / why will I feel wounded
to death? (50 51), exemplifying the self s dangers. If one breathes their own air, ignoring their unity
with life, their unnatural behavior will wound them because the self creates nonexistent conflicts.

The Styl Style Of Anita Desai
Anita Desai undoubtedly holds a prominent position among the Contemporary writers of Indo
Anglican fiction. She is a bold and experimental Novelist with a new sense and vibrant richness.
Much attention is given to the emotional crisis of her protagonists who live in a chaotic society.
She delves deep to find out the factors responsible for such a despair and attempts to suggest
solutions to overcome it. From her novels, it is clear that she, possesses one of the healthiest and
psychologically most balanced minds in the realm of Indo Anglican fictionand the sanity of her
tastes and attitudes, is almost exemplary, a point worth emulation for her fellow religionists in the
field of writing. As a woman writer she does not profess to be a feminist and yet she voices the
fears and concerns, the hopes and aspirations of her characters in her own artistic way. She is
deeply fascinated in exploring the social structure through the central characters in her novels. She
is a minute observer of the society existing around her, perceiving everything minutely and
delicately so that the situations can be presented in a poetic style.

A Discussion Of Socratic Irony
As we can see, Kierkegaard traces a parallel between Socrates ironic practice and a picture.
Furthermore, the effect of his rejoinders is likened to that of an image suddenly popping up while
we stare at this picture. In order to get at Kierkegaard s point, we have to consider that this
passage is contained inside a discussion of Xenophon s portrait of Socrates. In fact, the whole
passage is meant those aspects of Socratic irony which Xenophon missed. In this regard,
Kierkegaard writes that what he dislikes in Xenophon s treatment of Socrates is his failure to
portray the two essential elements of Socratic irony. The first one is situation , the second one
are his rejoinders . A bit below, Kierkegaard adds that [...] Socratic questioning is clearly [...]
analogous to the negative in Hegel, except that the negative, according to Hegel is a necessary
element in thought itself, is a determinant ad intra [inwardly]; in Plato [and therefore in Socrates] ,
the negative is made graphical and placed outside the object in the inquiring individual . This two
ways of conceiving the negative give way to two modes of leading philosophical inquiry. In the
first case, [...] one can ask with the intention of receiving an answer containing the desired fullness,
and hence the more one asks, the deeper and more significant becomes the answer; or [in the second
case,] one can ask without any interest in the answer except to suck out the apparent content by
means of the question and thereby

Analysis Of Frank Zappa, John Cage, And Pamela Z
Throughout this course, the composers we studied all had different approached to creating music,
and that is why many of them are well known today. The three most notable composers who
combine unusual elements in their music were Frank Zappa, John Cage, and Pamela Z.
Frank Zappa was an American artist who had no desire to fit into a single style of music, and he had
no interest in creating music for cultural conventions. He created music in the manners he saw fit.
His music has influence from rock, pop, modern classical, and jazz music, but his pieces are far
from fitting into one of those labels. The most notable album Frank Zappa created that was Jazz

Living Room Music is one his most performed pieces because it was fun for both the players and
the audience. In this piece, the player use common household items as instruments, often times
where house clothes, and are playing on a set designed to look like a living room. The quartet
uses unspecified items that could range from magazines, newspapers, tables, wooden furniture,
large books, the floor, the wall or a door. Within in this piece there are four movements. This piece
is an excellent example of John Cage s interest in non traditional instruments and timbre. John Cage
was willing to push many boundaries in his pieces. Although some individuals may not agree with
John Cage s approach to music, I believe his pieces are a great example of using unusual elements
to create a music that is characteristic to Cage.
Pamela Z is a composer who performs her compositions with her highly developed voice and
computer software. Pamela Z, although trained in classical performance, wanted to find a way to
perform contemporary music. In order to perform contemporary music, Pamela Z bought a delay
unit and began creating loops using her voice. Z was able to think about her voice in the areas of
texture and rhythm, the influence of outside texts, and how she could vary her vocal technique.

Thread And Balance By Timothy Tapestry
Thread and Balance
In a small town many years ago, the Tapestry family walked to work enjoying the simple
pleasures that the morning offered. Timothy Tapestry was a tall man with blond hair and a
subdued face. He had lived in this town his whole life, and just like any other morning, he gazed
happily at the hills in the distance. Ever since he was young, Timothy had marveled at how the sun
lit up those hills in the morning, and since he was a creature of habit, he did the same today.

Even as they said yes, a cloud of doubt covered their hearts, because they knew full well that three

With these deadlines in mind, the king began. We bid you farewell. He then raised his hand to
wave goodbye, and the royal parade began to leave. A mixture of joy and anxiety rushed through
Timothy and Adeline as the king and queen left. For although the Tapestrys were well known for
their quality products, it always took them a while to actually fabricate their orders. They would
have to work quickly, and precisely to overcome their time constraints.
Once the crowd had finally dispersed, the Tapestrys let themselves into their shop. It was a homey
place that told comforting stories through its exposed beams, and crackling fireplace. Immediately
they began to pull out different fabrics, and patterns trying to decide what would best suit King
Leonardo, and his wife Queen Alisha. Ideas were shared and compromises made, so that in the end
it was decided that Timothy would make the king s coat, while Adeline would make the queens.

the person dies during the night lights and candles are placed around the deceased because they

about the racism and stereotyping these people have faced for years in the US. Thus, it came as
no surprise that the authors presented instances of explicit racism and stereotyping.
Additionally, most of the books take place in the 1950 s and 60 s which highlights the racism
Latina s experienced during this time period. However, the racism continues after 9/11 in
Cepeda s memoir Bird of Paradise, which shows that racist attitudes towards Latin American s

Essay on Pros and Cons of Raising the Minimum Wage
Pros and Cons of Raising the Minimum Wage When you picture a minimum wage worker, who
do you picture? Do you see a sixteen year old, a middle aged mother, a college graduate, or even

bill into act that would cause the California minimum wage to rise from the current $8.00 and
hour to $10.00 and hour in increments over the next three years. The minimum wage rate will go
up in two separate $1.00 boosts. The first will change the rate from $8.00 to $9.00 in July of

These results, at least to myself, are not shocking but are helpful when looking at who this
minimum wage increase will be affecting. Once the minimum wage goes up will employers be
able to successfully employ the same amount of workers as when the minimum wage was lower
or will they be able to higher on new workers as they need them? This is one of the concerns of
many in regards to the minimum wage increase. In Sanja Blazevic s article, Is Employment
Decreasing Due to Minimum Wage Increase? , Sanja explains that many economists believe
that a minimum wage increase causes most age groups of minimum wage workers to suffer.
This is caused by jobs becoming more scarce after employers want to employ fewer people since
they are being forced to pay them more than they would prefer to. Young workers (25 29) seeking
a job of a minimum wage could see unemployment rise to close to 10% during a minimum wage
hike (Blazevic) creating a significant unemployment problem. Other age ranges saw similar but not
as extreme level of unemployment with a higher minimum wage. The only benefiting age range
was that of those working for the minimum wage at the age of 60 65. This benefiting group
however cannot outweigh the majority of those who face higher unemployment during a minimum
wage hike. Sanja also brings up the fact that once the minimum wage increases it will leave a
smaller wage gap

The Conceptual Foundation Of The Land Ethic
Land is something our world has always fought over. We, humans, claim land as our own property.
However, we forget that we still have to share our property with other organisms. Other non human
mammals, amphibians, insects, and more also claim that land as their own too. Humans sometimes
forget that we are a part of something greater: the ecosystem. Ecosystems contain a multitude of
life forms. Each and every life form is important. I am against the first and second options.
Allowing the county to build amusement park or use it for hunting, camping, and hiking, provides
only happiness for humans. Anyone who approves such an option believes animals exist only as
means for humans (Kant 212). I strongly disagree that animals are only matter indirectly. As Regan
states in his writing, each of us is a conscious creature having an individual welfare that has
importance to us (Regan 87). The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am in agreeance with Callicott, we should leave nature to develop what it needs. In Callicott s
writing, The Conceptual Foundation of the Land Ethic, he explains Leopold s thoughts about land
and how it is a community that holds all different types of things. Two theories, the evolutionary
theory and the ecological theory, were presented. The Evolutionary Theory says that there is a link
between people and nonhuman nature (Callicott 153). All organisms are connected in a community.
What happens to one organism affects another. The Ecological Theory states that each individual
ought to extend his or her social instincts and sympathies to all members of the biotic community
thought different from him or her in appearance or habits (Callicott 153). This establishes that
every organism should care about the sack of another life. That is why I believe that the forest
should be left alone. We as humans have already taken over so much of nature. There is no need to
destroy more of integrity, stability, and beauty the land has to offer

Symptoms And Treatment Of Dengue Fever
Dengue fever is a viral infection that is spread by the tiger mosquito (Aedes Aegypti). It has
black and yellow strips and usually bites in the early morning or at dawn. The virus enters and
breeds in white blood cells. Symptoms typically start appearing five to eight days after being ill.
The virus has five diverse styles of increasing severity. Infection with one category gives lifetime
immunity to it and short term immunity to the other categories. The dengue virus isn t
transmittable and can t be spread from individual to individual. Maximum individuals will only
experience mild symptoms such as an simple fever.
How do you get viral fever?
Viral fever is usually transmitted via the air by droplets from diseased folks, or by touching plague
ridden secretions.
Treatment options
Antimalarial drugs are accessible for the treatment of malaria and even seasonal viral fever; quite
the reverse, there is no drug available for the treatment of dengue. It is treated with helpful measures
such as blood transfusion and fluid restoration. However, the prescription used in malaria
fundamentally depends on where the septicity was acquired and on the type of infecting parasite.
Homeopathic treatment helps!
Homoeopathy, being a holistic treatment, acts even as a deterrent element for rain born aliments.

How Did George Orwell Write Politics And The English Language
The English Language s Slight Decay The English language fascinates some people. It takes
words from other languages like Latin, Greek, and German putting in a different level than the
rest. It evolved a lot from how it was spoken in the past some words people stopped using and
gets replaced with new words. Now there are more people who understand English which makes
it the third most spoken language in the world, and people continue to learn it. Like every other
language, people tend to have bad habits with the language and rarely do others try and correct
them. While others manipulate the language to make their intentions less harmful. George Orwell
saw people doing the bad habits and manipulating the language back in 1945 and tried to show
people their mistakes and how to fix it in his essay Politics and the English Language. Orwell

Reverend Hale Crucible
The word crucible does not simply only refer to the wildly acclaimed play by Arthur Miller, but
rather it possesses both literal and abstract meetings. Quite literally the word crucible means a
ceramic or metal pot in which a substance undergoes immense heat until its melted, or quite
simply a challenge. With this literal definition in mind, Miller wrote his play in which he gives
the word crucible a new abstract spin. The town of Salem itself leading up to the trials already
oozed with tensions waiting to boil over and explode. Personal beliefs, morals, and political power
served as the ingredients for all of the turmoil in the town which allowed the hysteria to grow and

How Did King Leopold Contribute To The Rise Of Imperialism
Imperialism is the building of an empire by using power in the form of economic, political or
military means. In Africa this was shown widely under the rule of King Leopold. King Leopold
was the ruler of Belgium. While he was in rule, he had an obsession with trying to find Belgium a
colony. In the 1830s the only country left for capturing was Africa. Africa was so interesting to him
as a result of over half of it was still led by the native people, which he knew that he could out
rule. Also, Africa flourished in multiple resources. These include: ivory, rubber, timber, coffee,
gold, and that is only a few of the variety resources contained there. With the knowledge of what

Animal Farm Dishonest Analysis
At the beginning of Animal Farm all of the animals are equal and must follow the same rules
together. As this book goes on the pigs end up separating themselves from the other animals and
become more human like in numerous ways. As the pigs evolve, they start to adopt the same
characteristics the humans have such as being very selfish, dishonest, and having no loyalty. At the
beginning of the story Mr. Jones was very selfish towards the animals. He would work the animals
very hard and only give them enough rations to survive and keep working. Later in the book
when Napoleon was in charge he was very selfish towards the animals in the same way. The
lower animals on Animal Farm did more work and received less food (Orwell 136). This shows
that just like in the beginning of the story, all the animals except the pigs still had to work very
hard and receive little food. The pigs got to live in luxury at the farm house while all the other
animals had harsh living conditions in their stalls. Napoleon did not care about the well being of
the other animals and this is how he became just as selfish as a human.... Show more content on

Mitigated Speech
Mitigated speech is a communication that is indirect. Malcolm Gladwell in the book Outliers
defines mitigated speech as any attempt to downplay or sugarcoat the meaning of what is being
said (194). People who come across as too harsh or forceful communicate more directly to people
who prefer communicating through a mitigated speech. One mitigates when they feel ashamed or
embarrassed or when they are speaking to a higher authority. Even though mitigation is a good
way to show respect and courtesy for others, it can be an obstacle in one s life. Three obstacles
that prevent an individual from becoming successful when having a mitigating speech are not

In the Korean culture children are thought to respect their elders and not to disobey. Children
said that they needed to eat everything on their plate and prioritized the expectations from their
parents and their teachers (32). When the children were asked how they felt about the lunch
they were being fed they responded, I have to eat seafood, which I don t like. I am not saying it
is not delicious. We have to eat everything (32). Children are not given the choice to eat what
they desire, instead the parents and teacher decide what and how much they eat. Children should
be able to make their own decisions it helps them feel more independent. In the case of the
Korean culture children will grow up thinking they need to always obey what they elders tell
them even if it not what they believe. They will not be able to express their opinions as if they

Bilingual Education Policy Analysis
Bilingual education policies in the Unites States have been influenced by many factors. These
factors range from the different attitudes towards languages in general and the controversy that
bilingual education creates among interested parties, to the relation between state and federal level
language policies. All of these factors together, along with a number of historical events, have
contributed, in one way or another, in shaping the country s policies of teaching language minority
students (Crawford, 2004; Johnson Johnson, 2015; Ruiz, 1988).
Before proceeding to the discussion of each factor, we may begin with a definition of what
bilingual education is. According to the Education Commission of the States website (2015),

Johnson and Johnson (2015) point out that the nation level language policies are affected by the
way each state interprets and implements them. For instance, the No Child Left Behind Act
(NCLB) in 2002, has been implemented in Arizona State in a way that resulted in reinforcing the
English only programs that are already in it. While the same act resulted in a notable growth in
other non English programs in Washington State. The interpretation and application of the NCLB
Act in both Arizona and Washington states played a significant role both cases in determining the
type of education in the public schools in both states (Johnson Johnson, 2015, p. 93). This, as a
matter of fact, shows that the federal level language policies, NCLB here, empower states roles in
deciding the most suitable approach to follow in the implementation

There are clear clashes between characters; in any case, the focal clash is amongst man and his

Act II Dr. Seward and Van Helsing give her blood transfusions, however she transforms into a

Act III Dracula assaults Mina Harker. Things are looking urgent. The novel wraps up with Dr.

General Description Of Noise Control Systems
Literature review
General description
Noise control is an engineering problem that can be found in almost every field of industry
maintaining safe noise levels in industry to ensuring a comfortable experience in air travel, motor
vehicles and general consumer goods. A major factor in the design of noise control systems is the
materials being used, producing the best results requires the use of the most appropriate materials,
and this in turn necessitates empirical values for how a substance affects the behaviour of sound.
These values are commonly established using an impedance tube, of which there are several
variations, made up of a set of base components. The bare minimum required for an impedance tube
to function is a speaker and signal generator to produce a soundwave, a tube within which the
material is tested, a mount for the material being tested generally with a hard backing, and a sensor
within the tube to take readings. Most tubes contain additional equipment and have strictly
controlled dimensions and materials to maximise their efficacy and the accuracy of the readings.
Dynamic microphone variation
The variation constructed in this report is a standing wave with a dynamic microphone with design
specifications established in ASTM C384.5970. This consist of a straight tube with a loudspeaker
mounted at one end, the tube can be rectangular or cylindrical but must be uniform along its length.

Different Types Of Assessments Educators
There are many different types of assessments educators will use to assess their students. The two
main assessments this paper will be discussing are formative and summative. Formative
assessments are complete as students are learning, while summative assessment are completed at
the end of learning (exam). The formative assessmentspecifically concentrates on observing the
students progress and response during instruction (Black, et al., 2003). This assessment allows the
students to receive instant feedback during their learning development. The summative assessment
focusses on confirming what the students have learned at the conclusion of a lesson or at the end of
the term (Wiggins, 1998). This assessment assists in the decision of what instructional and learning
goals were met. Alternative assessments need to be completed, due to not all students are capable
of showing what they comprehend on all assessments. Some students are too young to even take a
summative assessment.
Formative/Summative Assessments Mrs. Muscato uses the Brigance assessment. This assessment
used specifically with children from birth to the first grade and required by her school district.
Early childhood students assessments need to be simplified due to their age. When the class is
working at the calendar the educator can ask questions about the day, date, or pattern. The educator
needs to remember to give feedback immediately. A summative assessment in this age group
includes space to add

The United Parcel Service ( Ups )
The United Parcel Service (UPS) adopted a business strategy of mostly hiring part time workers
attractive to young workers who were given work at off time shifts earning union negotiated
wages and benefits. However, part time work presented almost no opportunity for advancement.
By 1996, this part time UPS s workforce grew to 182,000 part time employees, working
approximately 26 28 hours/week. The Teamster Union, handling the bargaining negotiations for
UPS worker members, researched the rights of the part time worker and analyzed the disparities
in salaries, retirement fund benefits and limited opportunities for full time hiring between the part
time and full time workers. The Teamster Union members called for strike after presenting this
picture of UPS had exploited part time workers to cut costs. This 1997 strike against UPS was as
successful as it was disruptive. The strike was disruptive to the businesses across the country
because it upset the shipping patterns. Yet, the strikers had gained large general public support over
the company. The strike was led Teamsterspresident Ron Carey successfully because of its
strategic execution. Namely, Carey made good use of media and generated public sentiment to
pressure UPS to settle in his favor. From the first, the Teamsters had the high ground given the
nature of the dispute and the fact that the public was also concerned about the issue of part time

Childhood Parents And Special Education
Introduction/ Problem StatementAs children grow, they are expected to meet milestones along the
way to ensure proper development is taking place. When a child fails to meet the developmental
milestones for their age, interventions are often put into place in efforts to help the child perform
as close to the expectations for his or her age as possible. These early interventions can help rectify
the childs deficiency; but at times, the child may need to receive long term assistance or
accommodation; particularly when entering school. These children can be recommended for
special education. Being placed in special education affords children the opportunity to learn at
their own pace with all the specific support they need. The children s needs are met with guidance,
patience, and scaffolding. Early childhoodparents often have negative perceptions towards special
education; resulting in the delay or impediment of their child receiving services. In this author s
experience as a classroom teacher, approximately half of all the parents whose child was
identified as special needs resisted or delayed their child s participation in services or special
education because of their perceptions towards special education. It is necessary to understand what
contributes to the perceptions in order to provide parents support they need to not only accept, but
embrace their child s needs to ensure the child performs at his or her full potential.

Dividend Policy at Fpl Group, Inc.
Question 1
We believe that Ms Stark should not revise her recommendation regarding FPL. The HOLD
recommendation seems to be the most appropriate. Our judgement assumes a dividend cut from
FPL. However, this dividend cut would be a precise strategic choice rather than one dictated by
financing difficulties. Specifically, the dividend cut will raise future growth, with little effect on the
stock price.
By cutting dividends, FPL can react better to future threats. After an initial panic selling triggered

Indeed, FPL s management may see this as an opportunity to gain more share in the Industrial and
Commercial segments, making it a positive change, at least in the short term.
In order to access this opportunity however, FPL would need to address its prices and costs. Exhibit
7 shows FPL to have low some of the highest rates (per KWH) in the industry for every market
segment. These high prices are unlikely to win many new customers if retail wheeling is
introduced. Unfortunately for FPL, they also have some of the highest costs (per KWH) in the
industry, which means any reduction in prices will only see margin compression and lower their
profitability further.
Lowering costs will be difficult for FPL. Since James Broadhead took over as CEO his focus on
cost reduction and quality maintenance have led FPL to achieve record results. However it may
be that all the costs which can be removed from the system have already been removed. And yet,
FPL still has some of the highest costs (per KWH) in the industry.
Finally, while it is not mentioned in the case, it may be that FPL could use the rise of retail
wheeling to expand its market outside of Florida itself. With low projections of capital expenditure
anticipated for the following years, and an ensuing dividend cut, FPL could choose to invest

Mood In The Raven
The Raven is the most famous of Poe s poems, notable for its melodic and dramatic qualities. The
meter of the poem is mostly trochaic octameter, with eight stressed unstressed two syllable feet per
lines. Combined with the predominating ABCBBB end rhyme scheme and the frequent use of
internal rhyme, the trochaic octameter and the refrain of nothing more and nevermore give the
poem a musical lilt when read aloud. Poe also emphasizes the O sound in words such as Lenore
and nevermore in order to underline the melancholy and lonely sound of the poem and to establish
the overall atmosphere. Finally, the repetition of nevermore gives a circular sense to the poem and
contributes to what Poe termed the unity of effect, where each word and line adds to the larger

former said pays little mind to the Persians, saying that they were not considered to be barbarians

barbarian than simply living outside the Roman Empire(Halsall 52). The latter, on the other hand,
clearly states that they were thought of as a barbarian culture (Heather, 57 58). This causes the
reader to question what exactly the term barbarian meant to the citizens of the Roman Empire and
how this related to the Sassanid Persians. The label of barbarian was related to the lifestyle,
morality, and martial skill of a group. The Sassanid Persians... Show more content on

One example of Persian military capability was Emperor Julian s failed invasion of Persia in 363
(Maas, 336). Not only did the emperor die due to wounds inflicted in battle, but his successor,
Jovian, had to make a truce with the Persians in order to return home (Maas, 336). Considering
the view that barbarians represented humanity s irrationality, the Romans would not have
wanted to believe that their greatest military rivals were barbarians. Therefore, it is only natural
that they did not label the Persians as such. One should remember that while they might have
believed that Western barbarian cultures were less able to plan a battle due to a lack of reason,
it does not mean that they were actually poor fighters. In fact, they could rival the Roman army
in all but training and numbers (Halsall, 146). They were even able to defeat Roman troops from
time to time. One example from the early empire, was the loss of three legions led by P.
Quinctilius Varus to an alliance of Germanic fighters (Heather, 46). Nor did it meant that barbarian
forces were seen as universally weak. Barbarian peoples had been incorporated into the army even
when the empire was new (Halsall, 105). This inclusion could be seen in the potentially inherited
ethnic names that certain regiments, even

The Horrors of War Depicted in Owen s Dulce Et Decorum...
It is clear when a country goes to war, patriotism and support for ones country is obvious. After
events of nine eleven, there were large amount of support given to soldiers fighting in Iraq.
Banners, stickers, rallies were some ways people showed their gratitude. Little do they know,
many of the strong men, who are in battle, goes through an episode where they fear death more
than anything else. In the writings of William B. Yeats and Wilfred Owens, their war poems
depicts an emotional load that they have encountered, to a point where death was no longer a fear
but a desire. War is not a pretty sight. On the battle field, what is seen, felt and heard isn t fully
comprehensible unless one experienced it first hand. Owen s... Show more content on

Yeats s was an airmen of his home village, the Kiltartan Cross. The first four verse put the reader
in a nonchalant mood because the verses tells the reader how he felt. Yeats was more neutral
when it came to the war. His enemies he fights against he doesn t hate and the people who he
fights for, he doesn t love. Most soldiers would feel differently. Fighting for your country brings
honor and dignity among yourself. Yeats did not feel that way at all. All he knew was
somewhere among the clouds, death was lingering. In the midst of the haunting darkness,
treacherous sounds and dying soldiers, the fear of death was no longer the issue for Owen and
Yeats. The war has taken such an emotional toll, to where death was a motivation to get out. War
is painful. Soldiers are put in a lot physical and mental extremities. Owen and Yeats were
mentally suffering from all the commotion. In verse 15 17, Owen describes his feelings as if it
were a painful dream. The use of diction helps to more clearly define what the he is saying.
Words like guttering , choking , and drowning not only show how he is suffering, but a terrible
pain that no human being should bear. Yeats felt the same as Owen. Though they were fighting in
two different scenarios, they shared a common outlook. In verse 9 12, the law, his civil duty, nor
cheering crowds of supporters was no motive for Yeats to be in war. All Yeats felt was a lonely
impulse of delight. Yeats uses the only

  • 2. Class Struggle In Hamlet Throughout history, class divisions have always been a big issue. Many works today display social inequality; however, to realize it, one has to look through the right lens. Literary critical lenses help to see a work from a different angle which leads to a better analysis of the composition. There are many different lenses and aspects in literature, and one of them is the Marxist Theory. Also known as the Conflict Theory, this idea claims that class struggle is a big divider in society. Although it is more of a cultural idea, this concept also applies to literature. In his play Hamlet, William Shakespeare clearly demonstrates the idea of class struggles; looking at this composition through the lens of the Marxist Theory, one uncovers that the powerful ones suppress and manipulates the others in an attempt to display their superiority. Class struggle is really obvious in Hamlet. The royals exploit and use the lower class in order to achieve their goals. People from the working class obey the Aristocrats commands and they do not have a big importance in their society. The Aristocrats notably Hamlet, Claudius and even Gertrude oppress others in order to get what they want and show that they are superior. Claudius kills his own brother and marries Gertrude in order to have a better chance to be king since she is the the imperial jointress, to the throne; he does not love Gertrude; he is using her to get the power (I.ii.9). Even when he has the throne, he still wants more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Mississippi River Pollution The Mississippi River originates in Minnesota and winds it way down to the Gulf of Mexico. The Mississippi is iconic to American culture, and there is a fondness for the Old Man River; where images of paddleboats and Tom Sawyer come to mind. What does not come to mind is our nation s river is sick. According to a report in the St. Louis Dispatch, the Mississippi is the second most polluted river in the United States, coming in just behind the Ohio River(Bernhard, 2012). The Mississippi is experiencing a number of environmental problems from dead zones at the mouth of the Mississippi, plagued with invasive species such as Asian Carp, to being contaminated with industrial chemicals, raw sewage, agriculture pesticides, and plain old everyday trash. The Mississippi is a fresh water ecosystem that is in danger of being polluted beyond repair. In 2010, more than 12.7 million pounds of toxic chemicals were dumped into the Mississippi River (Bernhard, 2012). Fertilizer runoff is said to have created one of the largest dead zones, over 8463 square miles beginning at the mouth of the Mississippi River and extending into the Gulf of Mexico (Dorsner 2015) Even though I live upstream from the majority of the contamination, we are directly affected by the overall quality of fresh water. • 7. The Eyes Were Watching God At its first development and publishment, African American literature and works were originally dedicated to the expression of their plight from slaves, to a second class, and eventually first class citizens. However, many authors have been able to drift away from that cause and began to express the importance of identity for individuals and how trials and experiences through life can add to or detract from someone s personal character and define them as the best that they can become. Author s of these works had usually conveyed a theme of being able to adopt a new identity through the experiences that a character is able to face through their life. A well written example of this would by in the story of Their Eyes Were Watching God, as the main character, Janie, finds new loves in her life and with each new relationship is able to adopt an identity or add onto her persona, as she adjusts to her new roles, such as becoming a mother, a wife, and an independent woman. As she is married to her first husband, Logan, she works with him on the farm performing daily duties, such as milking the cows (Morrison 73) or tilling the land (79). However she didn t lovehim as a person, but she was promised by both Logan and her grandmother then she would grow to love him (65), so as it was the role at the time to be the faithful wife beside her husband. • 8. Mainstream Schooling Is Culturally Bound In this essay I will address the ways in which mainstream schooling is culturally bound, and why this is a problem for those who have disabilities. Mainstream schools can be determined as a school of traditional education or a normal school (Spielgaben, 2015). This categorises mainstream schools within New Zealand as schools of English medium that follow the New Zealand Curriculum and are state schools. These English medium schools work with the National Standards system which set specific expectations for students to have met in the key learning areas of reading, writing and mathematics (Ministry of Education, 2012). This system is just one of the ways in which mainstream schooling is culturally bound. The Oxford Dictionaries (2015) defines culturally bound as restricted in character or outlook by belonging or referring to a particular culture. Due to these schools following particular systems it makes it difficult to cater to the different groups that attend these schools. The second way in which mainstream schooling is culturally bound, that I will address, is that most often teachers in these schools do not have the time, resources or skills to teach the diversity of disabilities due to a stronger focus of teaching by the curriculum. This results in more efforts needing to be made to support those with disabilities. I will focus on the common disabilities and special needs in the context of students in mainstream schools, such hearing impairments, physical and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Global Forex Is Not Foreign Essay The word Forex is not foreign to many people. It means foreign exchange . It is the value of one currency vis a vis another. For example, One US dollar is worth 62 INR as on date. But Forex trading is not a term many people in a developing country like India is familiar with. Forex trading is just like stock trading. Just like stock trading where a trader gains or loses money with the rise and fall of the value of a particular share, through buying and selling in stock exchanges across the world, in forex trading a trader gains or loses money with the rise and fall of the value of a particular currency with respect to another, through buying and selling in the global forex market. The only difference is stock trading is done on a single share, forex trading is done on pair of currencies. For instance, USD/EUR is 1.042, which means one US dollar is valued at 1.042 Euro. Now if someone buys US 100 dollars, by trading forex online at prevailing market rate, then he gains if dollar becomes strong and loses if it becomes weak, which in simple terms means if the price of one US dollar becomes more than 1.042 Euro, suppose 1.052, in forex parlance called 10 pips, then the trader gains by selling $100 and vice versa. Trading Forex Online is gaining more and more popularity as it can be done online 24/7, because unlike stock exchanges around the world the forex market never sleeps. Moreover, the liquidity in forex markets is higher because at any given point of time one can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Pabl Neruda In every person, a self which interacts with the world appears to live. However, what can one truly classify as their persona? Cognitive scientist Bruce Hood defines illusion as, [the] experience of something that is not what it seems. By this denotation, he classifies the ego as illusory; humans naturally experience it, but it does not actually exist. Accordingly, in Pablo Neruda s The Egoist, Neruda contrasts personal identity with the natural world, deeming abandoning one s individuality a necessary step to obtaining lasting satisfaction with existence. Neruda conveys his idea as a physician would a diagnosis; first identifying the problem s nature, then outlining its effects and solution. The Egoist s first stanzas portray the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Defending his controversial position concerning ego, the Egoist asks, What can I do if every movement / of my hand brought me closer to the rose (35 36)? Here, Neruda characterizes the self as straining and limiting via metaphor: the Egoist s futile hand movements bringing him closer to the rose reflect his attempts to resist the truth leading to uncovering his actual nature. Then, once again reflecting the first stanza, the Egoist notes, This day equal to all others / descends the stairs that do not exist / dressed in irresistible purity (45 47). He thus satirizes separateness as a concept by expressing a ridiculous scenario: a single day, naturally equal to all others, attempting to place itself above other days by descending nonexistent stairs. Thus, he corroborates human delusion, trying to place oneself above nature s whole. And, once again, Neruda characterizes the ego, but through a different perspective. He explicitly notes its deceptive purity, which allures its victims before corrupting them as portrayed in the third stanza. Finally, in the poem s final sentence, the Egoist ponders, [If] I breathe my own air, / why will I feel wounded to death? (50 51), exemplifying the self s dangers. If one breathes their own air, ignoring their unity with life, their unnatural behavior will wound them because the self creates nonexistent conflicts. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. A Discussion Of Socratic Irony As we can see, Kierkegaard traces a parallel between Socrates ironic practice and a picture. Furthermore, the effect of his rejoinders is likened to that of an image suddenly popping up while we stare at this picture. In order to get at Kierkegaard s point, we have to consider that this passage is contained inside a discussion of Xenophon s portrait of Socrates. In fact, the whole passage is meant those aspects of Socratic irony which Xenophon missed. In this regard, Kierkegaard writes that what he dislikes in Xenophon s treatment of Socrates is his failure to portray the two essential elements of Socratic irony. The first one is situation , the second one are his rejoinders . A bit below, Kierkegaard adds that [...] Socratic questioning is clearly [...] analogous to the negative in Hegel, except that the negative, according to Hegel is a necessary element in thought itself, is a determinant ad intra [inwardly]; in Plato [and therefore in Socrates] , the negative is made graphical and placed outside the object in the inquiring individual . This two ways of conceiving the negative give way to two modes of leading philosophical inquiry. In the first case, [...] one can ask with the intention of receiving an answer containing the desired fullness, and hence the more one asks, the deeper and more significant becomes the answer; or [in the second case,] one can ask without any interest in the answer except to suck out the apparent content by means of the question and thereby ... This is one of the concerns of many in regards to the minimum wage increase. In Sanja Blazevic s article, Is Employment Decreasing Due to Minimum Wage Increase? , Sanja explains that many economists believe that a minimum wage increase causes most age groups of minimum wage workers to suffer. This is caused by jobs becoming more scarce after employers want to employ fewer people since they are being forced to pay them more than they would prefer to. Young workers (25 29) seeking a job of a minimum wage could see unemployment rise to close to 10% during a minimum wage hike (Blazevic) creating a significant unemployment problem. Other age ranges saw similar but not as extreme level of unemployment with a higher minimum wage. The only benefiting age range was that of those working for the minimum wage at the age of 60 65. This benefiting group however cannot outweigh the majority of those who face higher unemployment during a minimum wage hike. However, after hundreds of complaints hundreds of accusations, hundreds of arrests, and a finally executions, Hale experiences a change in heart, and realizes that his one righteous crusade against witches may have now become a power grab by the courts. His loyalty waiver ever so more upon realizing that Abigail has gone wild (119) He quite simply cannot bring himself to believe Abigail and the others girls when they conveniently become afflicted by the devil to avoid questioning. In Africa this was shown widely under the rule of King Leopold. King Leopold was the ruler of Belgium. While he was in rule, he had an obsession with trying to find Belgium a colony. In the 1830s the only country left for capturing was Africa. Africa was so interesting to him as a result of over half of it was still led by the native people, which he knew that he could out rule. • 29. Animal Farm Dishonest Analysis At the beginning of Animal Farm all of the animals are equal and must follow the same rules together. As this book goes on the pigs end up separating themselves from the other animals and become more human like in numerous ways. As the pigs evolve, they start to adopt the same characteristics the humans have such as being very selfish, dishonest, and having no loyalty. At the beginning of the story Mr. Jones was very selfish towards the animals. He would work the animals very hard and only give them enough rations to survive and keep working. Later in the book when Napoleon was in charge he was very selfish towards the animals in the same way. The lower animals on Animal Farm did more work and received less food (Orwell 136). This shows that just like in the beginning of the story, all the animals except the pigs still had to work very hard and receive little food. Malcolm Gladwell in the book Outliers defines mitigated speech as any attempt to downplay or sugarcoat the meaning of what is being said (194). People who come across as too harsh or forceful communicate more directly to people who prefer communicating through a mitigated speech. One mitigates when they feel ashamed or embarrassed or when they are speaking to a higher authority. These factors range from the different attitudes towards languages in general and the controversy that bilingual education creates among interested parties, to the relation between state and federal level language policies. All of these factors together, along with a number of historical events, have contributed, in one way or another, in shaping the country s policies of teaching language minority students (Crawford, 2004; Johnson Johnson, 2015; Ruiz, 1988). • 35. General Description Of Noise Control Systems Literature review General description Noise control is an engineering problem that can be found in almost every field of industry maintaining safe noise levels in industry to ensuring a comfortable experience in air travel, motor vehicles and general consumer goods. A major factor in the design of noise control systems is the materials being used, producing the best results requires the use of the most appropriate materials, and this in turn necessitates empirical values for how a substance affects the behaviour of sound. These values are commonly established using an impedance tube, of which there are several variations, made up of a set of base components. The bare minimum required for an impedance tube to function is a speaker and signal generator to produce a soundwave, a tube within which the material is tested, a mount for the material being tested generally with a hard backing, and a sensor within the tube to take readings. Most tubes contain additional equipment and have strictly controlled dimensions and materials to maximise their efficacy and the accuracy of the readings. Dynamic microphone variation The variation constructed in this report is a standing wave with a dynamic microphone with design specifications established in ASTM C384.5970. The two main assessments this paper will be discussing are formative and summative. Formative assessments are complete as students are learning, while summative assessment are completed at the end of learning (exam). The formative assessmentspecifically concentrates on observing the students progress and response during instruction (Black, et al., 2003). This assessment allows the students to receive instant feedback during their learning development. The summative assessment focusses on confirming what the students have learned at the conclusion of a lesson or at the end of the term (Wiggins, 1998). This assessment assists in the decision of what instructional and learning goals were met. Alternative assessments need to be completed, due to not all students are capable of showing what they comprehend on all assessments. Some students are too young to even take a summative assessment. Formative/Summative Assessments Mrs. Muscato uses the Brigance assessment. This assessment used specifically with children from birth to the first grade and required by her school district. When a child fails to meet the developmental milestones for their age, interventions are often put into place in efforts to help the child perform as close to the expectations for his or her age as possible. These early interventions can help rectify the childs deficiency; but at times, the child may need to receive long term assistance or accommodation; particularly when entering school. These children can be recommended for special education. Being placed in special education affords children the opportunity to learn at their own pace with all the specific support they need. The children s needs are met with guidance, patience, and scaffolding. Early childhoodparents often have negative perceptions towards special education; resulting in the delay or impediment of their child receiving services. The meter of the poem is mostly trochaic octameter, with eight stressed unstressed two syllable feet per lines. Combined with the predominating ABCBBB end rhyme scheme and the frequent use of internal rhyme, the trochaic octameter and the refrain of nothing more and nevermore give the poem a musical lilt when read aloud. Poe also emphasizes the O sound in words such as Lenore and nevermore in order to underline the melancholy and lonely sound of the poem and to establish the overall atmosphere. The latter, on the other hand, clearly states that they were thought of as a barbarian culture (Heather, 57 58). One example of Persian military capability was Emperor Julian s failed invasion of Persia in 363 (Maas, 336). Not only did the emperor die due to wounds inflicted in battle, but his successor, Jovian, had to make a truce with the Persians in order to return home (Maas, 336). Considering the view that barbarians represented humanity s irrationality, the Romans would not have wanted to believe that their greatest military rivals were barbarians. Therefore, it is only natural that they did not label the Persians as such. One should remember that while they might have believed that Western barbarian cultures were less able to plan a battle due to a lack of reason, it does not mean that they were actually poor fighters. In fact, they could rival the Roman army in all but training and numbers (Halsall, 146). They were even able to defeat Roman troops from time to time. One example from the early empire, was the loss of three legions led by P. Quinctilius Varus to an alliance of Germanic fighters (Heather, 46).
