Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo served as the 14th President of the Philippines from 2001 to 2010. She was the country's first and currently only female Vice President and became President in 2001 after large protests forced Joseph Estrada from office. As President, Arroyo oversaw a period of economic growth but faced significant corruption allegations and political instability, culminating in an impeachment attempt and arrest after leaving office.

sympathetic to Estrada degenerated
into violence and attempted to storm
the presidential palace to force Arroyo
from office.

the Filipino people the alleged corruption of
