Manila. Jorge B. Vargas served as the chairman of the Philippine
Executive Commission, a civil administration.
Legislative and executive powers were present. However, laws passed
through required the consent of the Japanese soldiers' commander in
chief. Jose P. Laurel was installed as president of the Philippine
Republic on October 14 under Japanese sponsorship.On August 17,
1945, it was dissolved. The Philippines was freed from the Japanese's
domination after the end of World War II. After gaining
independence, the Filipinos began to choose their own leaders for the
Republic.
