My name is Ketut Ari Fitriana Tjandra. I
am from Bali, Indonesia. I am taking
Degree Program in Sekolah Tinggi
Pariwisata Bali in Indonesia. My friends
and I joined the 2+6 program which was
offered by Shelton College International.
At first, I was not confident and a little
bit afraid to join this program, because I
was not sure if I could survive abroad, far
away from my family. However, at the
same time, I was thinking that this is a
very good opportunity for me. Finally, I
tried to convince myself and I decided to
join this program.
With this program, I got the opportunity
to go to Singapore for eight months.
The first two months to study in Shelton
College International and the final six
months to go for an attachment.
During the first two months, Shelton
prepared us for the interviews. They
sent us for interviews in various hotels in
Singapore, and they were all five to six
stars hotel in Singapore. Even after
much preparation from the school, we
struggled during the interviews as it was
after all my first interview in a foreign
land! Finally, I was accepted by
Singapore Marriott Hotel for their food
and Beverage Service department as a
server in Marriott Café and Crossroads
Café.
I was really excited by the selection!
Initially, it was really hard, as I was not
used to work with people with different
nationalities and culture. But that was
what I came here for. After being there
for about a month, I slowly began to get
used to the culture and environment.
Slowly, I started to enjoy my internship
and was on good term with all my fellow
colleagues. It was challenging and also
worthwhile. They were very nice and
helpful, but at the same time, they were
also tough and strict during work and it
made me stronger and in the process, I
managed to learn a lot.
I’m so glad and thankful because
Shelton helped me with this wonderful
internship with a five star hotel. Shelton
staff are very helpful and lovable. They
always care, understand and help us.
When I have some problems, they
always try to put themselves in my
shoes. The most important thing is that
I have learnt a lot by joining this
program, I have got so much knowledge
about hotel and restaurant, I have got a
chance to engage and meet with so
many people from all over the world.
Last but not least, I just want to say to
everybody, do not ever give up, and
always try your best! Don’t let failure
scare you up, because failure is the
condiment that gives success its flavor!
