- 75 employees – of which 61 have offices/cubicles, 3 copy machines, 3 break areas. USEPA suggests using 0.75 lbs/person/per day as your paper generation rate. So .75 x 61 = 45.75 lbs of paper per day. Multiply by 5 = 228.75, Multiply by 4.3 = 983.63 lbs per month of paper generated. That’s almost a ½ short ton of paper. Think about how that fills up the container. 1 yd 3 = 165 lbs of mixed paper You could divert 6 yd 3 per month by recycling paper. The same theory applies to cans, bottles, shrink wrap, pallets, wood debris, other packaging (i.e. Styrofoam).
