When you hear the word, retrofitting, many images come to mind. One in particular is the idea of rummaging around your parent’s closet in search of 70s or 80s disco duds and then trying them on... Instead, this is my working definition, if you will.

We bring together Scientists, Academician, Field Engineers, Scholars and Students of related fields of Engineering and Technology.
In August 2014, SSC completed a peer benchmarking analysis of the athletic wear industry that examined the sustainability performance of five prominent brands: Adidas, Lululemon, Nike, Puma, and Under Armour. During this process, we focused on six different dimensions of sustainability with four categories as a part of each dimension:
-Governance - Materiality, Ethics, Risk, Communications
-Environment - Energy & Climate, Waste & Recycling, Water, Land Use & Biodiversity
-Workplace - Diversity, Health & Safety, Training & Education, Working Conditions
-Community - Philanthropy, Volunteering, Community Investment, Engagement
-Product - Life Cycle Management, Product Quality, Product Safety, Packaging
-Supply Chain - Materials Stewardship, Green Purchasing, Social Standards, Engagement
Not only did we assign four categories to each dimension, but for thoroughness we applied a three prong analysis to each dimension reviewing policies, programs, and performance to each category.
It is also important to note that SSC relies only on publically available data when conducting a peer benchmarking assessment.
Obtaining a green audit for your organization is a great step in a sustainable direction. But often a company finds that moving beyond this point is difficult. Identifying a specific route to take can be challenging with so many options of change available. But have no fear...this Slideshare will allow you to review your audit, and use it to propel you forward. It prepares you for both the pros and cons of change so that you can easily overcome obstacles when they arise.
The steps that Sustainability Change Management lays out are geared for both formal and informal leaders, who are ready to involve their employee base beyond just their green team. While getting a team rallied behind sustainable initiatives is not a simple task, it is a feasible one when leaders are aware of how to educate their peers, communicate plans, and positively address resistance to their efforts.
Another often neglected but important step in managing change is rewarding good behavior. This Slideshare brings this element to the forefront and examines how to successfully reward employees. Even simple recognition can give your employees a major boost.

This is typical of the ad-hoc approach taken by most organizations which has led to inconsistent results. This research will help organizations determine:
•Why Green IT is important.
•Examples of Green IT opportunities.
•The state of Green IT today.
•How to implement a successful Green IT program.

The world over, evidence is growing that green buildings bring multiple benefits. They provide some of the most effective means to achieving a range of global goals, such as addressing climate change, creating sustainable and thriving communities, and driving economic growth. The benefits of green buildings can be grouped within three categories environmental, economic and social. In this paper we concluded that the 1. Green building is an eco friendly and most importantly favorable to environment that more people need to adopt. 2. Global warming and energy crises cannot be solved in one or two years. 3. Green technology will definitely be the solution that gets the potential in helping is to solve those problems and improve our environment. 4. Building energy consumption has accounted for about 45 of final energy of society. If the building can reduce energy consumption by 50 during the process of using, then it can make a contribution that can reduce 14 of final energy of whole society. Akash S. Sonare | Pallavi B. EVALUATING ENVIRONMENTAL REGULATION

Evaluating environmental regulation
David Bumford
Kaplan University
2/10/2014
Introduction
Throughout the most recent few decades, improvement of the environmental development has been putting more weight on firms to recognize, portray, investigate and report upon natural issues and effects. Numerous associations and endeavors are mindful that environmental issues are getting pressing in all parts of social life. In an exertion to secure nature, environmental regulation measures have been presented on both a required and voluntary support (Fiorino, 2006). Observing the profits of agreeability is essential for firms to act as per ecological laws and regulations. To keep our reality going in the right heading, we need to scan for elective asset in energy. Current researchers have thought of approaches to help in changing over renewable assets which incorporate wind turbines, biofuels, water, and the sun into vigor in driving what's to come.
Thesis statement: This paper looks to address environmental regulation through; expressing the reason for reusing programs, evaluating the effects of these projects on firms and consumers, and assessing the degree of these projects in accomplishing their motivation in ecological regulation.
To begin with, recycling programs in effort to control environmental regulation has significant purpose to the government, environment, and the society at large. Recycling redirects waste items from landfills through development of their functionality and strong recycling programs enhance neighborhood quality in life thus coming about to additional attractive environment to live. In addition, recycling projects assist to diminish greenhouse discharges in unsafe gases and conserves the common assets through utilization of few crude materials. Through Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) federal government of U.S offers the rules and regulation governing disposal and handling of all waste products under their jurisdictions to maintain clean environment (Fiorino, 2006). The Universal Waste Rule (UWR) ensures hazardous waste collection requirements of lamps, thermostats, batteries and all other wastes which are threat to the environment. Moreover, all PVB waste products are controlled and regulated through Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).
Recycling programs lead to significant impacts to firms and consumers in different ways. Recycling programs makes employments through all the procedures included in transforming the waste material into convenient items and help to backing maintainable commercial enterprises as a few organizations depend of waste reusing to make business. Recycling projects assist to unite groups through school interest or different projects in nature's turf while furnishing an economical development in neighborhoods when waste decrease is made a necessity. These programs provide the consumers with modest.

Retrofitting Urban Apartment Buildings: Promoting Sustainable Living
1. Retrofitting Urban Apartment Buildings: Promoting Sustainable Living Presented By: Julie North University of Denver Environmental Policy April 22nd, 2011
19. Thank you Julie North DU Environmental Policy Master’s Candidate [email_address]
Editor's Notes
-Urban apartment buildings house a larger population of people in a given area than a solitary residential home and the ability to educate and empower this concentrated population of co-housing individuals about sustainable living practices is ideally more successful. -This foundation comes from my personal experience living in an apartment building as well as the cohousing movement that originated in Denmark in the late 70s which put emphasis on community living and active participation of redefining the traditional home. -Ultimately, this is a work in progress, or a living experiment, if you will and it just so happens to have started at my apartment building.
-Bridging the gap between rental management companies and tenant residents; lessen negative connotations of renter vs. manager & emphasize the importance of roles and community: renters pay for a service, therefore, they are technically customers (and we all want our customers to be happy). -Increase awareness for cost/savings/environmental impact in regards to products & services and possible grants & funding through Greenprint Denver & the Governor’s Energy Office -Also, allows for pilot projects for local businesses to install products or “rent” out services to receive baseline data for future customers -The overall sustainability report provides a compilation of all projects and a cost benefit analysis of each objective -Ultimately, sustainability report can be used for other apartment buildings and neighborhoods
Definition of Sustainability: “Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (Riley and Gadonniex 2009). -Ultimately, cost savings are huge in a multi-unit building where toilet flushes as we will see later are 1/3 of water usage -If you can calculate and demonstrate the possibilities of cutting water bills by 1/3, especially in an apartment building where water is included with a rental contract--who wouldn’t want to save a good chunk of money?
-These are my great neighbors that I see nearly everyday… the 20 yard walk from the front of the building to my front door usually takes 45 minutes since I run into one of them and we chat up weekend or that night’s dinner plans. -Nothing says peer pressure like “aren’t you going to recycle that?” or community, like “how does composting work?”
Ultimately, “as a renter, you are the landlord’s customer, so it is in the landlord’s best interest to work with you to make your environment as pleasant & productive as possible” (Riley and Gadonniex, 2009)
Community garden: In its 2nd year, $10 contributions from residents, seed & supply donations, designated watering days, community participation CFL Light Bulbs, Dual Flush Toilet Converters, composting, vermicomposting, Social Events, Overall Sustainabilty Report
-Total upfront cost $520-$600, which with a $120/month payback rate would allow for mechanical retrofits to be repaid more or less after the first year -Most solar projects take up to 10 years to be repaid
Sustainability Reporting helps companies/organizations communicate their sustainability vision and values and demonstrate what they have committed to do and what actions they are taking to achieve this vision. Environmental: energy usage, waste produced, greenhouse gas emissions, land use Social: Community impacts, social responsibility, diversity Economic: community development, management/owner dynamics, customer satisfaction
