CASE 3: Getting Buyers Through Trade Fairs and the Internet (Island Gifts & Deco) 
1. Assume that you work as consultant for Island Gifts and Deco, Will you 
advised participation in trade fairs and using the internet as tools to 
attract importers? Why or why not? 
If I were the consultant of Island Gifts & Deco, I will do the same 
thing that the consultant advised to Ditas which were to 
participate in trade fairs and to use the internet as tools to attract 
importers because they will be given the chance to have personal 
contact in face-to-face meetings and opportunities for their 
audience to see, touch, smell or try before buying in trade fairs. 
They will have the ability to check and evaluate competition and 
chance to promote brand loyalty via technology displays, 
hospitality and networking events. Moreover, it will be useful in 
studying about different markets, to find distributions channels for 
their products, to test customers’ reactions to their products, to 
assess the extent of competition and to seek joint venture partners. 
2. Given the decrease in gifts and housewares exports, would you advise Island 
Gifts & Deco to (a) diversify (b) engage in continuous product 
development. 
Most companies that survive for long periods of time find that they 
have to develop new sources of revenue as tastes change and 
opportunities evolve. Growth through diversification can help their 
company have options in place when they are needed. With respect 
to international business, faster new product development is 
essential for companies wishing to promote development of new 
and innovative items that are suitable for particular market. These 
both practices provide an excellent opportunity to assess opinions 
from clients and determine market potential, conduct research and 
evaluate competition, develop commercial structures by identifying 
new agents and distributors, and initiating joint ventures and 
project partnerships which mean that company need to be
innovative in every aspect of their business in order to keep one 
step ahead. 
Case 4: PRODUCTION PLANNING AND QUALITY CONTROL 
(Lirashen Fashion & Jewelry) 
1. Why production planning and Quality Control is is important in any 
business? 
Product planning and quality control is important in any kinds of 
business because it determines the business's production needs 
and plans for how to meet those needs. It prepares a detailed plan 
for achieving the production goals economically, efficiently and in 
time. Production planning encompasses every aspect of production. 
It can include planning the purchase and maintenance of tools for 
production ranging from metal and wires to large machines. 
Production planning also requires companies to plan to have 
sufficient personnel to complete and oversee production. Of course, 
to plan anything regarding production, a business needs to know 
how much demand there is for a specific product, how much it 
costs and how much it costs to make -- meaning these factors play 
indirect roles in the production planning process. Meanwhile, 
Quality control can't be easily separated from production planning. 
Generally, however, the process refers to the ongoing oversight and 
adjustments a business must make to production including 
changes to the original production plan. If a production plan 
indicates a business needs a certain number of supplies, for 
example, the production control process will monitor the 
availability of those supplies and request more supplies if there are 
too few or return supplies if there are too many. Production control 
may also involve establishing recommendations for more-efficient 
production. 
2. How can Lirashen survive the competition from China?
Lirashen survive the competition from China by shifting to 
customized quality pieces thru the help of Emd consultant 
affiliated with the Association of Training Institutions for Foreign 
Trade in Asia and the Pacific (ATIFTAP) by assisting him in 
planning.

They will have the ability to check and evaluate competition and chance to promote brand loyalty via technology displays, hospitality and networking events. Moreover, it will be useful in studying about different markets, to find distributions channels for their products, to test customers’ reactions to their products, to assess the extent of competition and to seek joint venture partners. 2. Given the decrease in gifts and housewares exports, would you advise Island Gifts & Deco to (a) diversify (b) engage in continuous product development. Most companies that survive for long periods of time find that they have to develop new sources of revenue as tastes change and opportunities evolve. Growth through diversification can help their company have options in place when they are needed. With respect to international business, faster new product development is essential for companies wishing to promote development of new and innovative items that are suitable for particular market.
