FUNDING
DROUGHT CONDITIONS
 CSD Board recently adopted a policy stating that
areas designated for turf in new park designs will temporarily
be installed with ½ of those areas in turf and ½ in mulch.
 Once the Governor declares the drought is over, then CSD
will convert the mulch areas to turf as designed.
 Funding will be available for conversion.
 Implemented at recently completed
Island Park and is slated for Horseshoe
Park.
PLAYGROUND SURFACING
 CSD traditionally designed playgrounds with a combination of
rubber surfacing and wood fiber.
 Recent product failures and expensive replacement costs
have caused staff to reconsider the use of rubber surfacing.
 Rubber surfacing is double the cost of
wood fiber.
 Both surfaces meet current standards
for playground safety.
 Wood fiber will be used at George Park.
