Initially…
0 We want our short-film documentary to have the correct
balance of entertainment and information/education not only so
we may conform to the main conventions of a documentary, but
also so that we can engage our audiences.
0 Engaging our audiences may also be done by making the
cinematography of our product interesting, keeping the
audience entertained.
0 In terms the educational value of our documentary, this will be
shown via the questions we ask the interviewees, and the
answers they give.
Furthermore….
0 The article from the “Teaching Media and Television” book
explains how modern documentaries are now ‘dumbed down’,
a term meaning that the content of the documentary becomes
more understandable so that it appeals and is “more
palatable” for a mass audience.
0 As our target audiences are relatively niche, this is not a
techniques that we intend to use and therefore we are less
likely to include misleading or inaccurate facts and
information that could be a problem, if we dumbed down our
product.
In addition…
0 We have learnt about the term “Narrowcasting” which is the
process of targeting a particular audience through a form of
media (such as television, radio trailers, posters etc.) that
appeals to these audiences. This is a technique that we will
need to use, as our target audiences are niche.
0 As well as this, we have found out from our research that the
demographic that is easiest to target advertisements for due to
their high income and their adaptability to new/digital
technologies are those within the 16- 34 demographic.
Therefore, it might be beneficial to extend our secondary
audience to people in their early 20’s so that we may cover
more of this demographic than we do already.
