The document discusses how the media product uses conventions of real music videos. It analyzes shots in the video that link visuals to lyrics or narrative. It also examines how the shots represent how a record company would want their artist portrayed as edgy or popular. Genre conventions like the use of sexuality in pop videos and intertextual references are discussed. Camera shots, lighting, mise-en-scene, and inspiration from other music videos are evaluated in terms of how they develop conventions of the genre.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

1. Evaluation 1 – In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
Links between lyrics and visuals
The image on the left shows our main artist dancing with the union jack flag, this links to the lyrics
that was played along with this ' Don't be so hard on yourself, no' this shows we have related our
performance in the music video to the lyrics as our artist is celebrating being english and forgetting
about her worries.
The shot on the right is from Meghan Trainor song ' Dear future husband' by Meghan washing the
floor relates to the narrative of the song 'I'll be the perfect wife',this shows the narrative side to the
song as men stereotypically believe women should be in the kitchen, however this doesn't relate to
modern day as there is more equality. Meghan is also dressed retro to follow the theme.
Typifies the way a record company would want their artist to be represented
This image on the left of our artist leaning against the wall shows the way the record company
would want their artists to be presented as an Edgy music company as she leans against a brick wall
in a studio flat helps her character shows an edgy side and for the audience of youngsters to be
familiar with her type of character as she poses.
The record company on the right want Meghan to be be shown as 'popular' by the way the other
girls are standing behind Meghan and are doing different dance moves helps to represent Meghan as
a role model and for the audience to believed Meghan is the perfect girl which is why she is dressed
differently and performs differently to the other girls.
2. How your music video uses music genre
Our music video on the left shows our Artists Pop genre in a sexual light as she lays across a
glamorous animal print chair and has one leg over the arm with her ripped jeans and heeled boots to
show how glamorous she is. Pop music videos show a lot of 'sex' through their music videos as it
helps to sell the artists music, this supports Mulvey's theory of the 'Male gaze' this is a very
important factor through Pop music videos so we wanted to carry through characteristics of this
through.
Meghan Trainor's music video is also in the genre if Pop, which shows herself to be seen in a sexual
light and supports Mulvey's theory of the ' Male gaze as she lies seductively on a bed with her
cleavage out and men sitting around her. This shows Meghan to be represented as a 'Sex object' as
men want to be with her as they queue round her bed.
Intertextual reference
In our music video on the left intertextuality Is used to show sporting events and the coming
together of people, as we use the Olympic park for one of our locations this shows our sport theme
however contrasts with friendship as different country’s come together as they play against each
other showing friendship, this is theme is also show (right side) in Shakira music video for 'Waka
Waka' as she sings over a football game as this also shows two countries coming together as they
play sport together, symbolising friendship which is the main theme of our music video.
3. Intertextuality is represented in Meghan Trainor music video of Mulvey's theory 'Male Gaze' as
women are seen as a servant, where Meghan is offering herself as a stereotypical housewife which
Is where she is seen to be cleaning floors and making pie for her husband with a happy face this
also links with Sam Smith 'Im not the only one' music video which is also shown to show the
women to be a servant as she waits at home for her husband to take her out which is where he
leaves and goes of with another women, this shows women to be only seen in a sexual light which
is represented through both music videos however Sam Smiths music video shows the way women
act when a man leaves and shows not the stereotypical women as this fits the slow pace of the song.
Demonstrates your use of Camera
The camera shots used in our music video are mostly close ups and panning shots, this is used to
draw the audience main attention of the artist in the music video, the closeups help show the artists
glamorous side and creates interactivity between our audience and artist as fans are able to see the
artist up close showing her 'Star Image'.
Meghan Trainor video also uses a variation of shots in her music video, mostly wide shots are used
to show Meghan body off, as she slowly in time to the music while she's dress in a tight skirt and
biker jacket, by the camera showing her of like this helps to follow Mulvey's theory of the 'Male
Gaze' this is shown as Meghan is selling her self in a sexual way in order to gain sales.
Demonstrates your use of lighting
4. When deciding upon lighting to use in our music video we struggled due to a lot of outside filming
it was very hard to change the light, however by the weather that day being sunny we was able to
use the sun to our advantage as we shoot a low angle shot as Charley walks across the sun, this
again shows her star image and show how important she is as she is against the star showing our
artist to be looked up to as a role model by the lighting used.
In Meghan Trainor music video she also do focus on lighting in her music video, due to the tempo
of the song she just edits the background brighter in order to fit the fast tempo. As this is a happy
song she brightens the background of each scene to show a sunny day and happiness which follows
the conventions of a pop music video as they are very over the top with bright lighting in order to
make the music video cheesy.
Demonstrates your use of mise-en-scene
The most important Mise-en-scene shown in our music video Is by our use of props such as the
Union jack flag and french flag as this is the main theme to our music video in order to show unity
between country’s and friendship shown by Charley and Beckie as they have a flag each which is
shown at the end of the music video where you begin to to see them together in the same location to
finish our music video with friendship and to help get the main message across however by
country’s as well due to reason attacks this is a great way to show friendship in the world.
In Meghan Trainor music video the most important factor of it is the location which is sued to fit the
lyrics and visuals together of a homily looking house which is the establishing shot of the video, as
Meghan Trainors album is all about being the perfect wife for her husband which stereotypically is
shown by women being a housewife looking after the house by it being in a sunny location this also
shows the genre of the music video of being pop as everything is very over the top and bright.
Other music videos that have influenced your music video
5. When creating our music video we got a lot of inspiration through other music videos especially for
shots and things to include in our video. When looking into the pop genre one thing we commonly
found was thr ange of closeups of artist lips when lip synching which we saw in natasha beginfield
song 'Unwritten' this helped us practise lipsynching aswell as we were abe to view how in time
Charley was to the lyrics. Just by using closeups in our music video helped to fit the pop genre and
show our artists 'star image' which supports Dyer's theory.
One thing we also struggled with is what our artist should be doing in our music video rather than
lip synching all the time as this looks as if we are being repetitive, so having looked at other pop
music videos such as Hailee Steinfeld song 'Love Myself' she used simple shots of herself posing
and just looking around acting natural which helps make the video look more realistic and is
commonly seen in the genre of pop as its a greats way to also help make the artist look more
glamourous.
