Mebendazole (Lupimeb Tablets ) is a medication
used to treat a number of parasitic worm infestations
in patients two years of age and older with
gastrointestinal infections including ascariasis,
pinworm disease, hookworm infections, guinea worm
infections, hydatid disease, and giardia, among
others.
This medication has also been used to treat
infestations due to Strongyloides stercoralis
(threadworm) and Taenia solium (large tapeworms).
This medicine is on the World Health Organization's
List of Essential Medicines, the most effective and
safe medicines needed in a health system.

➢Pinworm (enterobiasis): One 100 mg tablet,
once. For treatment of pinworm infections, the
medication is usually given as a single dose. If
necessary, a second treatment may be given in
a few weeks.
➢Whipworm (trichuriasis): One 100 mg
Lupimeb tablet morning and evening for 3
consecutive days.
➢Common Roundworm (ascariasis): One 100
mg Lupimeb tablet morning and evening for 3
consecutive days.

➢Hookworm: One 100 mg Lupimeb tablet morning
and evening for 3 consecutive days.
➢In case the patient is not cured three weeks after
treatment, a second course of treatment is advised.
➢No special procedures, such as fasting or
purging, are necessary.
➢It is very important to continue taking this
medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Do not skip any doses. Continue to take this
medicine until the full prescribed quantity is
finished, even if symptoms disappear.

Generic Mebendazole (Lupimeb tablets)
have to be stored at controlled room
temperature i.e. from 20°C to 25°C (68°F
to 77°F) with excursions permitted
between 15° to 30°C (59° to 86°F).
Keep this as well as all other medicines
away from children and pets.

Risk of Convulsions: Convulsions in infants
below the age of 1 year have been reported.
Hematologic Effects: Neutropenia and
agranulocytosis have been reported in patients
receiving Mebendazole (Lupimeb tablets) at
higher doses and for prolonged duration.
Monitor blood counts in these patients.
Metronidazole and Serious Skin Reactions:
Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal
necrolysis (SJS/TEN) have been reported
with the concomitant use of Mebendazole and
Metronidazole. Avoid concomitant use of
Mebendazole and Metronidazole.

There is no evidence that Mebendazole, even
at high doses, is effective for hydatid disease.
Concomitant treatment with Cimetidine may
inhibit the metabolism of mebendazole in the
liver, resulting in increased plasma
concentrations of the medication.

Contraindications
Lupimeb tablets are contraindicated in patients
with a hypersensitivity to Mebendazole or any
other component of this medication.

➢Generic Mebendazole (Lupimeb Tablets) side
effects reported in clinical trials were anorexia,
abdominal pain, diarrhea, flatulence, nausea,
vomiting and rash.
➢Stop using Generic Mebendazole (Lupimeb
tablets) and tell your doctor straight away in case
you notice or suspect the following serious side
effects. You may need urgent medical treatment.
➢Sudden swelling of your face or throat. Hives (also
known as nettle rash or urticaria), severe irritation,
reddening or blistering of your skin. These may be
signs of a severe allergic reaction
➢Blistering of your skin, mouth, eyes and genitals
➢Fits (convulsions)

➢Inform your doctor if you notice any of the
following Lupimeb side effects:
➢Common (affects less than 1 in 10 people):
Stomach pain
➢Uncommon (affects less than 1 in 100 people):
Stomach discomfort, Diarrhoea, Wind
➢Rare (affects less than 1 in 1,000 people):
Rash, Inflammation of the liver, Changes in liver
enzymes (shown in blood tests),Reduction in
white blood cells (shown in blood tests - you
may get more infections) , Unusual hair loss and
Dizziness

15. Generic Mebendazole Overdose

In patients treated at dosages substantially higher than
recommended or for prolonged periods of time, the
following adverse reactions have been reported rarely:
alopecia, reversible liver function disturbances,
hepatitis, agranulocytosis, neutropenia and
glomerulonephritis.
With the exception of agranulocytosis and
glomerulonephritis, these also have been reported in
patients who were treated with Mebendazole tablets at
standard dosages.
In the event of accidental Generic Mebendazole
(Lupimeb tablets) overdosage, the possible signs and
symptoms are abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting
and diarrhoea may occur.

16. Lupimeb Overdose

There is no specific antidote to treat
Generic Mebendazole (Lupimeb tablets)
overdose.
Activated charcoal may be given if
considered appropriate.

17. Mebendazole During Pregnancy

Mebendazole (Lupimeb Tablets) has been
classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy
Category C.
Controlled studies in animals has shown
embryotoxic and teratogenic activity.
In view of these findings the use of
Mebendazole is not recommended in pregnant
women.
Available case reports demonstrate that a
small amount of Mebendazole is present in
human milk following oral administration. There
are no reports of effects on the breastfed
infant.
