Mountain Man Quotes
Her scream went on, only to end in sudden silence as she struck the rocks 200 feet below (Saul
35). The book I am reading Guardian is about a string of accidental deaths of people at the El
Monte ranch and Sugarloaf campgrounds. Two of the deaths just so happen to be Maryanne
Carpenter s very good friends and put a giant twist in the lives of her familyand her friends son who
is also her godson. Not only is Maryanne now responsible for Joey she was also left a fortune
because of the deaths. In this journal I will predict what the is actually murdering the people in
sugarloaf, I will question who the mountain man is, and will evaluate the reasons for which Joey is

First off, every time there has been a death in Sugarloaf no one knows where Joey was at the
time of the deaths. In the case of his fathers death no one was around so Joey could ve spooked
Shieka, which caused her to step on Teds head killing him. Then as his mom was searching for
him in the woods during the night something jumped out of the woods and knocked her over the
edge of the cliff. In the case of the campers death he had ran off because he was frustrated but
showed up later on. And lastly as Bill Sikes the caretaker was looking for Joey after he had ran off,
Bill was brutally killed, his head barely attached to his head like he was a prisoner being executed.
в є Even the next morning Joey woke up in bloodstained clothes which further gives the
illusion that he could be the killer since he is never around when the murders happen.
Everywhere dark stains covered his clothes. Bloodstains. Still wet, still sticky (Saul 224). This
quote clearly shows that for some reason the morning the Bill Sikes was killed that Joey had wet
bloodstains on his clothes but had no idea where they had come from since at the time Joey did
not know that Bill had been killed. It s like Joey has an alter ego and when he slips into that other
reality he no longer can remember what he is doing or has any control over his actions. Its like
Joey is a mad dog. в є Where he

Neuroofibromatosis Research Papers
Neurofibromatosis is known to be a very dangerous and deadly disease. Worldwide,
neurofibromatosis, type one and two (commonly known as NF1 or NF2) affects over two
million people. Each year about one in 3500 people are diagnosed with NF. About 40 50 percent
of those people have NF one or two because of a genetic mutation tied to the arm of the 17
chromosome. Base pair 29,603,556 to 29,698,600. People with NF have a slightly smaller life
expectancy rate than somebody without NF. But, their life consists of physical therapy and
surgeries. First, NF has many different symptoms and causes. NF1 causes skin features such as
freckling all over the body, toumbers all over the body including the brain, bone abnormalities,
nerve and tissue damage. NF2 causes all of the NF1 symptoms but there are only toumbers in the
central nervous system. A mutation at the 17th chromosome causes this disorder. 50% of children
of NF carriers will get the disease. Neurofibromatosis can also cause extreme learning disabilities....

One Ordinary Day With Tootsie Rolls And Hot Dog Summary
One Ordinary Day with Tootsie Rolls and Hot Dogs
By: Marcelina Trejo
The next morning Mrs. Johnson woke up to her alarm. She woke up shortly after and got ready.
After getting dressed Mrs. Johnson makes breakfast for her husband and herself. While making
breakfast Mr. Johnson woke up and got himself ready. He came down and ate breakfast along with
his wife. Shortly after Mrs. Johnson gets ready to head out the doors of her home deciding she will
walk around the city.
While walking around the big city of New York, Mrs. Johnson saw a small candy store next to a
barber shop and a large cinema. In the store with many jars and shelves with candy, Mrs. Johnson
finally chose to buy Tootsie Rolls. One. Full. Bag. After purchasing her full bag of Tootsie Rolls,
she left the store extremely content with her purchase. Before Mrs. Johnson went into the store to
buy the Tootsie Rolls she recalled seeing a small hot dogstand. She went over to where she
remembered seeing it and fortunately it was still there. She bought one hot dog until she noticed a
little homeless girl. Mrs. Johnson then decided that she wanted to buy the poor girl a hot dog.
Calling the girl over Mrs. Johnson bought another hot dog for the little girl then handing her some
of the brand new Tootsie Rolls that she bought. The little girl, with great joy, skipped along with
her hot dog and Tootsie Rolls in her hand while Mrs. Johnson, with great happiness, watched the

Women s Rights Of Female Athletes
In 1972, Title IX has banned sexual unfairness not only in education programs, but also in the
athletic programs. This federal law applies to all organizations that receive federal funds and must
function in an equal manner. Gender equity has been a major problem in our society for quite some
time, and now it has migrated to athletics. According to the Office of Civil Rights some keys issues
which recipients have Title IX obligations are: recruitment, admissions, financial assistance;
athletics; sex based harassment; treatment of pregnant and parenting students; discipline; single sex
education; and employment (OCR, 2015). Fair treatment for female athletes has been a huge matter
in athletics. The Office of Civil Rights issued guidelines offering equal opportunity rights to all
athletes including the temporary disability of pregnant female athletes. Prior to OCR putting this
policy to effect there were many reasons universities neglect pregnant female athletes. According to
Pitt Law there are a few reasons: first, too many individuals in society believe sport is pervasively
masculine organization that is constructed around men. Secondly, women s ability to reproduce is
used against them to exclude them from sports. Furthermore, the beliefs of gender and race have
long combined to stigmatize young women who have children outside of marriage and in
precarious financial circumstances (Brake, 2008). For any athlete committing to a university on
behalf of a sport the

Nissan Case Study
BACKGROUND
The Global Leadership of Carlos Ghosn at Nissan
During March 1999, Brazilian Carlos Ghosn took over as the first non Japanese Chief Operating
Officer of Nissan, when Nissan had been incurring losses for seven of the prior eight years. Many
of the industry analysts expected a culture clash between the French leadership style and his new
Japanese employees. Analysts said, because the financial situation at Nissan had become critical so
the decision to bring Ghosn in came at the worst possible time. The continuing losses were resulting
in debts (approximately $22 billion) that were shaking the confidence of suppliers and financiers
alike. Furthermore, the Nissan brand was weakening in the minds of consumers due to a product ...

Along with other Japanese manufacturers, Nissan was successfully competing on quality, reliability
and fuel efficiency. By 1991, Nissan was operating very profitably, producing four of the top ten
cars in the world.Nissan management throughout the 1990s, however, had displayed a tendency to
emphasize short term market share growth, rather than profitability or long term strategic success.
Nissan was very well known for its advanced engineering and technology, plant productivity, and
quality management. During the previous decade, Nissan s designs had not reflected customer
opinion because they assumed that most customers preferred to buy good quality cars rather than
stylish, innovative cars. Instead of reinvesting in new product designs as other competitors did,
Nissan managers seemed content to continue to harvest the success of proven designs. They tended
to put retained earnings into equity of other companies, often suppliers, and into real estate
investments, as part of the Japanese business custom of keiretsu investing. Through these equity
stakes in other companies, Ghosn s predecessors (and Japanese business leaders in general)
believed that loyalty and cooperation were fostered between members of the value chain within
their keiretsu.
By 1999, Nissan had tied up over $4 billion in the stock shares of hundreds of different companies
as part of this keiretsu philosophy. These investments, however, were not reflected in Nissan s

Observational Learning Research Paper
I enjoyed learning about observational learning, which is what you learn from watching other
people. I learned about observational learning at a very young age. Whenever my mother would
cook in the kitchen, I would be standing right there just watching how she preformed each task,
and yet I learned so much. I even wanted to be a chef at the time because I felt like I could cook
anything. Observational learningis definitely will be a benefit to my future goals. I believe I am
pretty good at learning this way. When it is time for me to pursue my externship for medical
assistant, I will be watching things being done first and then try to mimic exactly what I just saw,
so I will be watching closely to try my best to get it right on the first try.

Indicate conclusions that can be drawn based on the trend: The graphs below illustrate the stock
prices of each company based on the timeline. By consulting the above graphs and charts it can
be concluded that Pepsi has been a strong competitor to Coke and that throughout history they
have been performing at comparable rates. Each has a similar background and customer base,
but there are some differences between the two companies and their individual performance
overall. It is clear that Pepsi holds a major stake in the market and is somewhat ahead of Coca
Cola in market share and productivity. Although both companies appear to be competing neck
to neck Pepsi appears to be performing at a slightly higher rate than Coke, despite the popularity
of both. Coke is wildly popular and is considered an American institution, but many seek
different tastes and this is where Pepsi has been taking some of the market share as some
consumers opt for Pepsi as their choice of beverage. Both companies represented in the graphs
shown previously are subject to the volatile market changes and increasing prices in commodities
and other raw ingredients that each company relies on for their production of their products. As
seen in the chart Pepsi is subject to the same market changes as Coke, but performance appears to
steady and less erratic in its market fluctuations. Since Pepsi is considered to be less volatile

Environmental And Environmental Challenges In The...
The aquaculture industry has been plagued issues such as water pollution, fish disease outbreaks,
destruction of coastal habitat and escapes that have tarnished its reputation and stimulated
significant backlash against the industry. In response, the industry turned to placing marine farming
systems miles offshore, in deeper waters with large currents to reduce the environmental risks
associated with conventional aquaculture. Studies have shown when cited properly with adequate
flushing rates, offshore aquaculture operations left a neutral nutrient impact on the water column
and had diminished water and benthic pollution. By producing fishin less polluted marine
environments, offshore operations can improve the quality of the product, improve market access,
and increase profit. However, offshore aquaculture still faces a number of sustainability challenges
that jeopardizes the ecological and economical integrity of the sector.
Fish Escapes
Although offshore systems are designed to prevent any escape events, it cannot be guaranteed that
escape will never occur as the sector expands to commercial and industrial scales, even with the
risk of massive escape events caused by extreme weather events are mitigated as submersible cages
are able to withstand and avoid storms. Escapes can occur from human error during cage
maintenance and harvesting, from collision of ships, and vandalism. Escaped fish can cause
potential harm to the marine ecosystem and native species by

Bird Species in Belize Essay
This past week in Belize was undoubtedly one of the best experiences I have ever had. In the
special topics biology class, I learned so much about the ecology, culture, and history of the
newly established country. Not to mention, I obtained a new respect for ornithology and a new
interest in birds. About the size of Manhattan and with a population of almost 350,000 people,
Belize surprisingly holds approximately 500 species of birds. We were able to spot 135 species of
birds during our stay and also learned about a few mutualism relationships.
One of the greatest mutualism relationships is between the ants and the bullhorn acacias. The ants
live in the hollow bullhorns and protect the tree, making sure there is no vegetation to harm it. ...

Guanacaste seeds can only be planted if their protective covers are punctuated and this is usually

thus, seed dispersal is rare.
Mimosa pudica is a touch sensitive plant that will close its leaflets inward when touched. It is
found on the ground or on plants and is relatively small in size. The tour guide at the Community
Baboon Sanctuary said that the plants were used when slaves were in Belize. Closed mimosas
would show runaway slaves the escape path.
At the Community Baboon Sanctuary, many other plants were noted. Smilax tendrils, also
called cat claw, were used as a form of birth control. Aerial roots are a favorite of the black
howler monkeys. The roots can be smoked and help people quit smoking. The cohune have
many uses such as: makes furniture, rings, wine, massage oil, stops infections and more. The
miconia leaves have an orange substance at the end that is used as a ringworm cure. Purple

and can be a replacement to toilet paper. The tourist tree, called because its red skin will peel like

The Progression of the Eighteenth Century Novel Shows How Society Takes Over the Role of God
The progression of the Eighteenth Century novel charts the transformation of the role of God into
the role of society. In Daniel Defoe s early Eighteenth Century novel, Robinson Crusoe, God makes
the laws, gives out the punishments, and creates the terror. By the end of the century, the French
Revolution and the Reign of Terror announce to the world that society is taking over the role of
God and now people will make laws, give out punishments, and incite terror. Early Eighteenth

Funeral Home Industry
Introduction:
There has always been a death industry but as the industry changes from product based purchases to
experience based there is a growing need in the industry to accommodate for how the industry is
doing to shift in the upcoming generations. The existing funeral homes are the traditional style
interiors that the previous generation got accustom with the product base design, but more funerals
are become more personal and deviate from the previous funeral ideas. Just like every funeral
service is unique, the grieving process is different from one person to the next. With providing a
service that takes into account of different techniques, whether through the space, social interaction
or counselling helps process the grief of the individual. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The funeral industry is changing from product based to experience based, and from burial to
cremations (National Funeral Directors Association [NFDA], 2015; Koop Kemp, 2007;
Wolfelt, 2004). Traditional funeral homes started off as having funerals in the deceased homes,
then creating buildings that have a home like interiors. The generation at the time was all about
the price of the required products; like the price of the casket, what was the casket made of,
wood or metal, what was the best price for the burial lots (Steven Kemp, 2007). The industry was
previously mostly a product driven industry but, as the industry is changing the funeral service
must focus on being customer and experience driven (Wolfelt, 2004). The baby boomer
generation is coming, they are sceptical of traditional funerals but want some sort of service and
want more information about the entire funeral process and more ideas for personalizing the
service (Wolfelt, 2004). Through the generation difference and the changing market that allows
for more of an experience customizable space that depends on tradition, customs and beliefs of
the customer (Wolfelt, 2004; Parkes Laungani Young, 2003). The baby boomers are more likely
to choose cremation for body disposition (Wolfelt, 2004; NFDA, 2015) which provides a market
change within the industry. The business of the past is not, and cannot be, the business of the
future. But there is a future in funeral service (Wolfelt, 2004). Today s funeral director must
consciously work to create a package of experience to offer families in conjunction with or even
instead of the product (Wolfelt, 2004). Through bundling of products, it allows for easier
understanding of the products but still allows for customization of the service that the client

Leonid Frridman s Essay America Needs Its Nerds
In the passage, America Needs Its Nerds, by Leonid Fridman he develops his argument by using the
three pillars of literature: pathos, ethos and logos.
Firstly, in lines 20 23, 28 pathos was used to develop the author s argument about children who
prefers learning or creating things versus children who play sports. He used this as an example to
appeal to his readers emotions because these children who preferred invention over sports are
known as social outcasts and are ostracized for being intelligent or wanting to show off their talent.
The author was clearly showing his emotion in line 28 Enough is enough to get his readers to
understand the feeling by putting yourself in that child s position.
Second, ethos was used to try and convince

Essay Of Prenatal Screening In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
In her novel, Frankenstein, Mary Shelley warns of the boundaries of scientific exploration. Victor
Frankenstein, a brilliant scientist, attempts to play God in resurrecting a corpse and creating new
life. This has disastrous effects which include the death of many characters throughout the novel.
All told, the story provides a cautionary tale of the attempts to play God in regards to scientific
advancement. This raises the question of how far is too far in terms of scientific exploration. With
the increasing popularity of eugenics in regards to prenatal screening, one can t help but wonder, is
this the dangerous idea of playing God that Shelley warned us about? One of the most common
forms of eugenics nowadays is prenatal sex selection.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During IVF, the egg is typically fertilized in a lab before being implanted into the uterus. Before
transferring the embryo into the uterus, some fertility clinics offer patients the option of choosing
what sex embryo they want. Although IVF is more commonly used for families struggling with
infertility rather than for the sole purpose of sex selection, sex selection is still an option. This
seems both futuristic and controversial but Codington Lacerte argues that prenatal sex selection
methods allow parents to make informed choices about the makeup of their families (Codington
Lacerte, Point: Sex Selection ). This type of eugenics is seemingly harmless because in choosing
a sex for their child, parents aren t really damaging society. However, by giving parents the ability
to choose whether they want a male or female child, the possibility of a skewed sex ratio greatens.
In countries where sex selection is common, gender biases are already skewing the sex. According
to Codington Lacerte, Americans also exhibit a son preference (Codington Lacerte, Counterpoint:
Sex Selection ). By 2009, over thirty countries, predominantly in Europe and the Asia Pacific

Coxswain Qualification Essay
The Coxswain qualification is one of the hardest fought for qualification of a Boatswain mates
career. For a Reservist to obtain this qualification it is even harder. The Coast Guard has tried to
ease this by allowing Reservists to attend Coxswain C school. However, while they are attending
the school, another policy is quietly wading in the waters for the perfect time to strike. This is the
policy that states that the hours these members earn while underway on a standard Coast Guard
boat, while at school, do not count towards their currency maintenance hours for the crewman
qualification that they are operating under while at the school. In District 9, most of these members
end up losing their certifications after returning to their units because there is not enough time left
in the boating season to obtain the hours they need to retain their qualification. This is causing a
time consuming process to recertify, it is demoralizing to the member, and it is a waste of Coast
Guard money. If the hours counted while at Coxswain C school for currency maintenance
requirements, the school would be more beneficial for the member and the member would be more
beneficial to the Coast Guard. At face value it may not seem that... Show more content on

How Did The Industrial Revolution Affect The...
In the pre globalization world fashion had a vertical trend. As geographic borders merged through
trade, travel, communication, and technology, information and ideas for fashion were transmitted.
Though international trade of fibers and textiles has influenced cultures throughout history,
increasing technology has resulted in diffusion of trends to the four corners of the globe. The
Industrial Revolution improved the quality of life in the lower class, causing fashionto become more
democratic. Technology allows items and people to travel worldwide faster than ever, and images
and information can be communicated instantaneously. However, to adapt to the fierce
competitiveness of the global market, the fashion industry has relocated production to developing
countries with poor working conditions; for democratization of fashion to be complete these
inequities must change (Gestal, 2015).
Historically, clogs were protective footwear worn over shoes by farmers, factory workers, and

Wooden shoes date back to the time of the Roman Empire. Clogs were mainly made of wood,

about determining scores for applicants responses to (a) interview questions, (b) letters of

qualitative responses such as interview questions, letters of recommendations and previous

Internet Esteem And Its Effects Of Internet Adolescents
Higher self esteem results in better academic performance, well being and coping strategies
among adolescents (Trzesniewski et al., 2003). On the other hand, low level of self esteem has
negative effects. These include isolation, loneliness, depression and substance abuse. Thus, it is
very important to have high level of self esteem among adolescents so that they can live a better
life ahead. There are many research studies done that emphasis on internet addiction and its
effect on adolescents. There results include effect on their academic performance, well being,
self esteem and increase family conflicts. According to one of the research done by Young
(1998), it reported that individuals who have high internet addiction among adolescents have
low levels of self esteem. In addition, low self esteem is also found to be one of the reasons for
internet addiction in adolescents and indulge themselves more into social networking sites, so
that their sense of self worth increases (Greenberg, Lewis Dodd, 1999). Thus, self esteem is
considered to be as an antecedent of internet addiction as well as the consequence of it. FAMILY

destroying boats worldwide. They were on the boat a few months when the finally found this
cetacean then it hit the Abraham Lincoln sending Conseil, Professor Aronnax, and his friend Ned

You have to alive that special charisma to get along with people so well. This inspires and
motivates Nemo into letting them stay, thrive, live, and learn on the Nautilus. A second example of
this is when he befriends Ned Land, a Canadian harpooner in which the Abraham Lincoln recruited
to harpoon the mighty narwhal they thought they were hunting. He was an arrogant man who
believed he was the best in his field and Arronax (along with conseil) seemed to be the only

Arch Street Friends Meeting House Research Paper
Welcome to Arch street Friends Meeting house where you will explore the many wonder
wonders of a Quaker home. built between 1803 and 1804, Quakers would gather for
weekly, monthly, and yearly meetings to worship and speak with each other. Originally part of a
loan from the King,(loan was originally to Penn s father but, his father died before the King could
give the loan to him) he gave William Pennland who founded Pennsylvaniawith the land. William
penn deeded land to the Quakers in 1693 on which the building sits today. William Penn was
originally Catholic, but then switched to being a Quaker because he thought it could benefit him
in other things. In 1718, William penn died of a stroke. The land of this building served as a burial

their own group leading up to what is now, the Arch Street Friends Meeting House. Quakers
objected to paying war taxes, promising loyalty, and taking arms. Most Quakers supported the war,
but some thought that their was no need for war. Quakers have an acronym that represents what

The Pros And Cons Of North Stradbroke Island
North Stradbroke Island (NSI), also known as Minjerribah to its indigenous people, the
Quandamooka people, is the second largest island in the world, covering an area of 275.2 km2.
The island has a wide range of ecosystems including open beaches, frontal dunes, rocky
headlands, mangroves, and tidal swamps (Stradbrokeisland.com, 2018). On the island, the sand
mining company, Sibelco, are to close their operation on NSI in 1919. This decision has been
made through the exploration of advantages and disadvantages of undertaking sand mining on
NSI, as well as alternative sources of economic income and planning replacement employment.
When making the decision to close Sibelco s sand mining on the island, it was important to
remain mindful to the natives of the island and their ideals, traditions and sacred land. In
considering all of these factors, it is most ideal for Sibelco s sand mining operations on NSI to close.

For a firm, such as Microsoft, its revenue would come from products such as the computers,
phones, tablets, and software it sells to consumers. On the other hand, for a consulting firm, such
as Accenture, revenues would stem from the fees it charges for its consulting services contracts
with various government agencies around the world. Both companies are providing a product to
a consumer, one simply happens to be a tangible product that people buy, while the other is a
service product that agencies need for their functionality. Expenses are the costs a firm incurs
while generating its revenues (Parrino, 2011). For Microsoft, expenses would stem from the costs
of building its products, marketing them, developing new products, shipping them around the
world, etc. For Accenture, expenses would stem from the cost of all of its consultants, which
includes their wages, insurance, company laptops it provides to each of them, travel costs for
sending consultants around the world on projects, etc. Again both types of firms exhibit
expenses; some of them are just different. Net income shows the company s revenue relative to
its expenses. If revenues exceeds expenses then the company has a net profit and is in the black
for that time period (Parrino, 2011). On the other hand, if expenses exceed revenues then the
company has a net loss and is in the red for that time period (Parrino, 2011). By looking at financial

Crash Of The Century Anthropology
A primary source that I found that relates with our course theme of horror and my concentration
of the unknown and unexpected is a documentary called Crash of the Century. This documentary
was created by Discovery World based on a true story. This documentary covers the unknown
line of events that led up to the fatal collision of two fully loaded Boeing 747s. On March 27,
1977, a KLM 747 and a Pan Am 747 were on route to the Gran Canaria International Airport when
unexpected calls were made by Canary Island Separatists that there were bombs at the airport.
Authorities closed down Gran Canaria International Airport and had to divert all flights to a
small airport in Los Rodeos. In total 5 large aircrafts were diverted to this small regional airport
that couldn t easily accommodate the aircrafts. Eventually after almost 4 hours from the original
diversion, the KLM was cleared to go the full length of a runway and do a 180В° turn. The Pan
Am flight was instructed to follow the KLM but take the 3rd exit off the runway to their left. The
Pan Am passed the 3rd exit off the runway and the KLM began taking off without proper
clearance. Nobody that day could ve predicted that the effects of an airport closing due to a bomb
threat would cause the horrific disaster of two Boeing 747s to collide and create the worst disaster
in aviation history.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Neil Degrasse Tyson s Life
Neil deGrasse Tyson
A young boy wanders through the Hayden Planetarium, gazing at every planet model and space
device he can spot. Little did the nine year old know his future had been decided right then and
there. He had no idea he would grow into one of the biggest contemporary scientists of our day.
This young boy was Neil deGrasse Tyson. He later said, about this event, So strong was that imprint
that I m certain that I had no choice in the matter, that in fact, the universe called me.
In 1958 Manhattan gave birth to this remarkable man. He was raised in a middle class family and

The origin of the roller coaster can be traced back to Russia and their ice slides. These slides
were made of ice as they were more prominent during the winter festival, and what a better way
than to use the ice that was around them. The ice slide can be traced back as early as the 17th
century, to the time of Catherine the Great and they were found mainly in St. Petersburg, Russia.
The structures that supported the slides were constructed out of wood and the surface was
covered with a thick sheet of ice made of many inches thick. Riders reached the top of the slides
via the stairs that were located at the back of the slides. Once they reached the top they descended

The tracks control the fall of the car. This means that if there is a ip or slope down, the gravity
pulls the front of the car toward the ground, so it accelerates. If the track has an upward slant,
then the car decelerates. According to Newton s first law of motion, (an object in motion stays in
motion, the car will keep a forward velocity as it goes up the hill. This means that it is creating
potential energy and then at the top of the hill the energy is converted to kinetic energy. The rack
is continuously converting energy from potential to kinetic energy. There is also the continuous
change in acceleration. As the cars move along the track and go up and down smaller hills the
potential energy is increasing which is built up for the biggest burst of kinetic energy at the top of
the biggest hill. The twists and turns create more forces which causes the feeling you feel when
riding a roller coaster. The gravity is pulling you down and the push from the ground up on you is
what cause the feeling of pressure on you rib cage, feet and face. Acceleration is what pushes
you back into you seat or pushes you against the restraining bar. Your body moves with the car

The Argument Against Negotiating With Terrorists
The argument against negotiating with terrorists is simple: Democracies must never give in to
violence 1. This for the most part is the official line of most western liberal democracies. The policy
of negotiating with terrorists give legitimacy top these violent groups and undermine the actions
and methods of other groups who have pursued political change through peaceful means. Peace
talks with terrorists can, and have, destabilized the negotiations and undercut international efforts to
halt the spread of transnational terrorist actors. It would seem obvious then that states should not
negotiate with terrorists. Yet when it comes to the actual negotiation with terrorists historically
there is a clear divergence from the no negotiation policy. Examples of this divergence from the
official policy range from individuals like Nelson Mandela to Yasser Arafat, and Gerry Adams. All
three at one time were among those once branded terrorists by particular western democracies.
In the words of Neumann The key objective for any government contemplating negotiations with
terrorists is not simply to end violence but to do so in a way that minimizes the risk of setting
dangerous precedents and destabilizing its political system 2. With this in mind, any use of
negotiations to be an effective policy tool with regard to terrorists must strive to fit Neumann s
objectives.
What this essay attempt to do is examine what terrorism is and look at whether the motivation for
terrorism

Presuppositional Apologetics
In our last episode, I gave you four purposes for apologetics. In this one, I d like to flesh things out
a little more, so you will have a firm grip on just what we are doing when we practice apologetics.
We ve established that what we re trying to do is provide a rational defense for the Christian faith.
But there are different approaches, which we can split into two camps. Now, while some may
argue over which approach is best, I am convinced that they both have merit and so will use
whichever seems to be appropriate for the occasion. The two camps are: presuppositional and
evidential. The first, presuppositional apologetics, isn t inclined to wrestle with scientific data like
cosmology, biology and the like. Made popular by the Cornelius Van Til

the need for such evidences due to the presupposition that the unregenerate mind cannot

Earlier in his letter, chapter one starting in verse 18, Paul makes an astounding claim about
unrighteous men, who he later identifies as all of mankind. His claim is that men know that
God exists, perceived through nature or what theologians dub general revelation, but they reject
Him and pretend that he is not real. This suppression of the truth is the reason that God turns
them over to the lusts of their hearts and thus their thinking became nonsense, and their
senseless minds were darkened. Romans 1:21 This is why, when writing to the church in

DamNation
DamNation was released March 10, 2014 as an advocacy documentary film. DamNation s main
topic is presenting and challenging the changing ideas and opinions of the large systems of dams in
the United States. The movie is in full support of the growing environmental strategy of Dam
removal in hopes to restore river ecosystems from coast to coast.
There are 75,000 dams in the US today, and have been part of American culture for many years.
As the demand for electricity grew the government looked into hydroelectric power that could
be produced from these dams. These dams were also used to back up water for towns to use as a
water source and to also redirect water for irrigation purposes. The US Army Corps of Engineers
headed many of these projects for the government and when World War II came about dams
starting popping up everywhere to power project to build planes, ships, bombs, and other material
for war. But quickly after the war many of the dams became obsolete and not even worth the cost
it would take to re open and run them. That is where the film comes into play advocating to
remove and demolish these obsolete masses of concrete and let the rivers flow.
The dams being built took away many amazing and flourishing fisheries and Indian grounds.

A Reflection On The Racquetball Curriculum
The racquetball curriculum has a lot to offer outside the realm of physical activity. Racquetball
proves to be great exercise, but can also be a great learning experience. My time throughout the
class has been a wonderful learning experience. After completing the racquetball course I will have
learned plenty in which I can apply to my futurelife. Before my enrollment in racquetball I had
little to no knowledge of the sport. If someone had asked me to describe the sport as a whole I
would not have been able to adequately do so. Having no knowledge of the rules, terminology, or
tactics behind the game, one could conclude that I knew next to nothing about racquetball. During
the length of the course I spent much of my time on the court learning, improving, and developing
an understanding of the activity. I have developed an appreciation for the game and those who
play it. Racquetball itself proves to be much more complex than what I had originally though.
Cleary simply hitting the ball does not prove to be an proficient play style as I had once assumed.
This will no doubt defer me from making assumptions about other sports in the future. This was a
worthwhile learning experience as a whole, and developing an appreciation for the game is not the
only thing I will take away from this class. Alongside debunking any misconceptions I once had,
racquetball also reinforced the importance of diet in the everyday lifestyle. Aside from the countless
things learned on the court, I

Thomas Paine And The Age Of Revolution
Benjamin Franklin once said, Where liberty dwells, there is my country . What did he mean by
this statement? It s a way of saying that where he lives, America, there is liberty. To claim the
location of liberty to be one s country, is to say that the location of one s loyalty is dependent on
the location of liberty. The location of liberty was crucial to Franklin, to colonists. In the Colonial
Period, colonists arrived from Europe in search for religious freedom, land, and the chance for
wealth. But even so, Europe governed newcomers; this resulted in anger and rebellion. A period in
early American history that occurred in the creation of a new, independent nation. This then
extended to another important time in history, a time in which the first pamphlet to advocate
American independence was published and seen. Thomas Paine helped shape the ideas of the Age
of Revolution. He outlined ideas of the superiority of the monarchial system, the equality of right s
among citizens, and of the significance of the American Revolution. He was a man that fought for
freedom, fought for independence. Paine transformed the struggle over the rights of English
people into a contest with meaning for people everywhere (History). And as periods go by,
people similar to their pride and drive for free will live today. People tend to overlook the work
that soldiers put in everyday to maintain the freedom Americans have today. And to an extent it s

The Successful Formation Of A New Colony
Before organizing a colony, it is important to gain perspective and understand where colonies
before when right and where they also went wrong. Learning from their mistakes and
capitalizing on the positive aspects of different colonies can lead to the successful formation of
a new colony in Illinois. From what we already know, each colony in the New World was for the
most part different. Some were driven by religious ideas others were driven by the prospect of
wealth. While colonies shared some similarities, each had its own set of rules, policies, and way
of life. Colonies such as Pennsylvania and Massachusetts were vastly different even though they
were both northern colonies and religion was a driving force in the development of their colonies.
There were also colonies that were developed in hopes that prosperity was to be had by means of
trade and cultivation. This capitalist model was used by the colonies of Virginia and New
Netherland(New York). However there were colonies that simply did things their own way that
was separate from everyone else. One of those colonies were Carolina, which was setup by eight
proprietors, businessmen, who hoped to rule every aspect of their colony from government to
religion this was now as the feudal model. The other colony was Georgia, who took English
debtors to work off their debts as part of their colony and as a hope to alleviate the overpopulation

The mining industry in developing nations often lacks the enforcement of ethical principles, laws
and regulations. I therefore believe developing nations are better off without large mining
companies operating within them. Mining majors can use force to get there way and this often
includes political involvement and corruption. Mining companies often overlook the artisanal
miners, that use the mine as their lone source of income, and move them out from the mines. The
impact on locals is not usually not taken into account when a new mine is set up. Mining

As corruption is seen as a cheaper alternative to fixing the problem. I believe that developing
nations are better off without mining majors in operation within them because of the possibility
for government corruption. Developing nations are better off without mining majors because
the country is seen as a target for large revenue gains, the Global Business Standards Codex and
fair treatment of local people can often be disregarded at the expense of profits. Artisanal miners
live in or around mines and generally do all of their work by hand, including the extraction of
ore, to make a living. As these people live on the mine, if a company wants to buy the mine then
they have to move the whole town elsewhere. In accordance with the fairness principle, which has
always been involved with ethical thought (Paine et al. 2005), the mining company should provide
housing for the artisanal miners. However, by doing this, the company is taking the miners away
from their source of money and livelihood, which creates an imbalance. An example of this is the
Canadian mining company in Essakane, Burkina Faso (Siegel 2013). As global mining companies
seek new avenues of revenue they are increasingly turning to the developing world. In developing
countries mining is used by locals as a source of income when farms fail, which is becoming
increasingly common with global warming. The increasing number of artisanal miners causes

Personality, Psychology, And Humanistic Approach
Personality in a Nutshell Personality is looked at everyday purposely and accidently. Whether you
are judging how your new professor for the semester will be, or if you are studying your best friend
for a project, personality is studied abundantly. While there are many ways to define personality,
there is not a worldwide definition around. Personality is the unique combination of patterns that
influence behavior, thought, motivation, and emotion in a human being (boundless.com). That is
one of many ways of defining personality. When examining personality, there are four main
approachable theories including: The Psychodynamic Approach, The Trait Approach, The Social
Cognitive Approach, and The Humanistic Approach. The Psychodynamic Approach was first
approach by Sigmund Freud; he dealt with the understanding that personality came from our
unconscious state of mind. And that unconscious state interacted to determine our thoughts,
behaviors, and feelings (Bernstein, 425). Freud also created the psychoanalytical theory stating

Connection Themes In Fury And The Water Diviner
Connection EssayThe significant connection idea between my four texts is the theme of solders
fighting for their country. Soldiers back then were all fighting for their countries, they were all
wanting there country to win and did anything to make sure there country had the lead. The texts
that we picked was Fury directed by David Ayer, The Water Diviner directed by Russell Crowe,
The Prologue by Michel King and Hongi Hika: Badass of the week by Ben Thompson and the
movie I selected was The Dead Lands by Toa Fraser. The soldiers had to risk their lives to protect
their land and make sure that there country had the upper hand. In fury the American solders got
put into tanks and was put forward to fight the Germans. In the movie Fury directed by David
Ayer. There is a long shot of Norman when he is told to kill a German that is sitting right in front
of him with no intentions and no understanding of what is going on, of course he is very reluctant
to kill him. Standing right behind him is Wardaddy he is very angary and wants Norman to kill the
German very urgently and after a while of anger and pushing Norman, Wardaddy eventually holds
the gun with Norman and shoots the German. After Norman shot the German he was very shocked
and distraught, Wardaddy had a talk to Norman about why he had to such a thing. Norman learnt

Discrimination In Race By Marc Aronson
Freedom from Discrimination
Today, India is a free country, but this country s history to freedom was not pleasant. Britain, a
country that occupied many territories, came to conquer India for its valuables. During this time,
they treated Indians poorly and stole all the goods of the country to trade. This rule continued for
nearly two hundred years, and India struggled to fight for freedom from 1857 to 1947. On August
15, 1947, India finally gained its independence through the India Independence Act passed by the
British House of Common. The British House of Commons is the UK parliament that is part of the
legislative branch. The act stated that India would be divided into two dominions, India and Pakistan
, thus granting Pakistan independence on August 14 and Indian independence on August 15. Marc
Aronson, in his book Race, explores and examines the concept of race where the reasoning behind
racial discrimination can be seen. Aronson provides the four pillars of race, which show an
ideology behind racism that occurs universally. During the British rule in India, the British racially
discriminated Indians. As a result of the discrimination, Britain ... Show more content on

The Government of UK in a national archive mentions about specific goods that were traded during
the rule over India. These specific goods helped in the political benefit of Britain. The national

India, a densely populated place with long established civilisations, had a long history of contact
with Europe. The main contact between Britain and India was in trade. This really began to
develop during the 1600s, when the East India Company was created, a private company owned
by wealthy and important figures in Britain. The Company had a monopoly of trade between
Britain and Asia. The main goods traded were cotton, silk and tea. However, spices and gems were

A Summary, Analysis and Discussion of SГёren Kierkegaard,...
A summary, analysis and discussion of SГёren Kierkegaard, Training in Christianity[1]
I. Introduction
In this essay, I will try to summarize, analyze and discuss several pages of SГёren Kierkegaard s
Training in Christianity. I will try to focus on his approach to sacred history, a general Christian
history and Christianity, which he discusses in this work in relation to faith in God. In other parts
of this essay I will attempt also to relate these pages of his work to some key ideas of Kierkegaard s
theology and philosophy and support this with some concrete quotations from the text. In the end
I will very briefly compare different philosophies of Hegel and Kierkegaard and try to relate
Kierkegaard s work to a few topics, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Christian has according to Kierkegaard nothing to learn from general history, teaching Christian
history in schools is therefore pointless. [...] true Christians [...] have nothing to do with
Christians of former generations, but everything to do with contemporary Christ. [9] So does the
history of Christianity of over 1800 years in Kierkegaard s time (over 2000 in ours) have any
significance at all? To this question would Kierkegaard probably give answer: No , as he gives
answers to few similar questions he asks himself.
Firstly, he tries to give answer on question whether Jesus is always the same or he has changed in
history and whether we can learn anything about him from history. To this question Kierkegaard
responds: Yes, He is the same yesterday and today. [10] Therefore we can not learn anything
new about him from history; we can know him only from sacred history. This means we can
know God only as humbled, as lowly one, [11] but never as the one, who is in glory and who will
in glory come. about His coming again nothing can be known; in the strictest sense, it can only be
believed. [12]
Secondly, Kierkegaard asks himself, if one can prove from history that Christ was God. Here he
answers: No. He argues that it is impossible to prove this using reason, because we can only prove
that something is against reason and

Dalai Lama Essay example
The Dalai Lama: Leader in Exile
Among world leaders, there is no one like His Holiness the Dalai Lama, religious and political
leader of Tibet and winner of the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize. Brought up from an unusual
childhood, he became head of the state of Tibet at age 16, and was later forced into exile by the
Chinese government. Despite all the hardship he had to endure he does not give up his fight for
freedom and treats all sentiment beings with love and compassion. Through his fight for freedom,
he has proven himself to be the spiritual and political leader whom the people of Tibet love.
Thought by many a living Buddha, a God king, The XIV Dalai Lama was born in Taskter in 1937.

alternative government at Dharamsala in Punjab, India, aptly known as little Lhasa. It has

refugees. In the past decade, the Dalai Lama has tried to negotiate with the Chinese while in the
main time pleads for help where ignored by United Nations and NATO who have gone to war to
defend the Kawaties, the Bosnians and others. Despite the fact that they have forsaken the Tibetan
people in favor of selling products to the Chinese masses the Dalai Lama is still fighting for the
freedom of his people until this day. He is 63 years old and hopes to return to his country in his
lifetime.
The works of The XIV Dalai Lama did not go unnoticed. In 1989 he received the Nobel Peace
Prize for consistently championing policies of nonviolence and human rights in his own
beleaguered country as well as in other strife torn areas of the world. He is the first Nobel
Laureate to be recognized for his concerns for global environmental problems. The Dalai Lama in
his struggle for the liberation of Tibet consistently has opposed the use of violence. He has instead
advocated peaceful solutions based upon tolerance and mutual respect in order to preserve the
historical and cultural heritage of his people. His holiness, accepting the Nobel peace

Essay on Internal Controls Case Study
October 1, 2011
I was asked to give my recommendations on LJB Company s internal control system before the
company decides to go public in the future. Based on my review of the information that I have been
given, the following are my recommendations for new internal controls: 1. Establishment of
Responsibility 2. Segregation of Duties 3. Human Resources Control 4. Independent Internal
Verification 5. Physical controls
It is good to see that LJB recognizes the efforts of its long term employees by rewarding them with
additional responsibilities. This shows that the employees are valued. There are also some physical
controls in place to secure company checks from being mishandled or stolen. Documentation

The Independent Internal Verification control is also being violated because the data that eh
accountant has been providing has not been verified by any other personnel in your company. It is
simply being recorded and reported by him only. The company s petty cash is being handled by all
employees and they are only being asked to leave a note in the drawer when it is being used. Why
are all employees being allowed to have access to the petty cash fund? How do you know that it is
being used to benefit the company, not the employee? Why is the cash not locked away instead
of being placed in a desk drawer? This violates the Human Resources Control as well as the
Physical Control. Employees who handle cash should be bonded and all cash should be locked
away. Receipts or other means of record keeping should be provided when petty cash is used, not
notes left in the drawer. The company does not have individual passwords assigned to employees
for computer use. This also is a violation of Physical Controls. Thorough background checks are not
being done on employees before they are hired. This violates the Human Resources Control. If this
had been done, the employee that had been convicted of child molestation would have never been
hired. The accountant should not be interviewing and approving new hires. This goes against the
Establishment of Responsibility control. The accountant has too many roles within the company
that should be assigned to

The National Security Act Of 1947 Centralized Command And...
The National Security Act of 1947 centralized command and promoted intelligence sharing
between institutions by establishing a Secretary of Defense, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Director of
Central Intelligence, and NSC. The President, Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, Secretary
of the Army, Secretary of the Navy, Secretary of the Air Force, and Chairman of the National
Security Resources Board composed the original statutory members of the NSC. The President
was also authorized to designate other specified officials to the NSC. The NSC staff, which is
separate from the Council, comprises politically appointed individuals and civil servants organized
in specialized directorates. The primary function of the NSC is to advise the President on domestic,
foreign, and military policies relating to the national security. The NSC acts as a coordinator
between departments and agencies across government, and relies on accurate and insightful reports
from them to develop national security policy recommendations for the President. The NSC is
unique because it both consumes intelligence to make recommendations to the President, and
guides intelligence activities by coordinating policies across government. In 1949, the NSC
reorganized to incorporate the Vice President, Secretary of the Treasury, and Joint Chiefs of Staff,
as well as remove the Secretaries of the Army, Navy, and Air Force from the Council. President
Harry Truman originally did not regularly attend NSC

Scottish Wildlife Trust Essay
The Scottish Wildlife Trust manages a network of 120 wildlife reserves across Scotland. Their
main aim is to aid in preserving and maintaining healthy ecosystems throughout Scotland s land
and seas. Possil Marsh is one of such wildlife reserves, located in the north of Glasgow. Ecology
and Conservation students from the University Glasgow visited the reserve on Friday the 14th
of October 2016. The intention of this excursion was for students to see first hand the variety of
wildlife which inhibits the reserve and take into consideration the processes of management.
This refers to preserving the area whilst still making it accessible to the public. With an area of
78.2 acres, Possil marsh contains a large quantity and variety of habitats to support the
inhabiting species. The reserve has a shallow freshwater loch, providing suitability for water
birds and many other animals. This water is surrounded by a combination of vegetation
including marsh, swamp and fen, with areas of willow scrub and grassland. The fen and swamp
areas support locally rare plants specific to this site. The reserve is also proved to be an
important staging post during the spring and autumn migration for warblers and waterfowl. There
is path accessible from the Forth Clyde towpath and around the perimeter of the reserve which is
available for visitors to use. (SNH, 2007) Upon arrival of the reserve my initial expectations were
already contradicted. Although I was aware that the reserve was near the

Similarities Between Huck Finn And Walden
Freedom is an inalienable right according to the Declaration of Independence. But it s only
inalienable to those of a certain age, race and gender. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and
Walden share a similar premise about seeking and gaining freedom but go about it very differently.
Freedom in Huckleberry Finn comes about through running away, making good friends and having
many adventures. Freedom in Waldenhappens when Thoreau is secluded in nature for an extended
period of time to be self reflective. Huckleberry Finn is an adolescent and Thoreau is an adult.
As an adolescent, I would rather be with friends new or old on a similar adventure as Jim and
Huckleberry Finn down the Mississippi because of freedom it represents and the encounters with
people and situations along the way. Thoreau s seclusion for years on a pond in the woods means
he s alone with nothing but his thoughts to develop personal philosophies on freedom. Both books
are statements on the society at the time and on how to best find yourself at different life stages.
Huckleberry Finn is running away from an abusive parent and started off his adventure alone,
but soon finds Jim who is a runaway slave of Miss Watson s. They continue their journeys
together and become friends and will do anything to protect each other. Along the way, when
they are together they come across two people in need of help. Just as I was passing a place where
a kind of a cowpath crossed the crick, here comes a couple of

Haitian Revolution Dbq
The Haitian Revolution took place in 1791. One of the main Factors which led to the success of the
revolution is the collapse and the malfunction of the French Monarchy. In France, the revolutionary
government was considering equality. The governor at the time implemented the idea of equality
for all blacks and whites to bend, he also mandated that slaveryabolished. Instead of the people of
France agreeing with him they Beheaded him and killed his members. The salves thought that they
had been freed in the Caribbean which resulted in their starting to resist and revolt on the basis that
the planter were hiding their freedom from them. They wanted to be free and not be beaten
anymore. Which sparked the Haitian Revolution

He was also very successful in negotiating with the French General Leclerc, who misrepresented
France s orders by attacking L Ouverture and his forces. L Ouverture was able to calmly respond
by arranging a diplomatic meeting and creating a resolution about territorial boundaries, proving
his advanced diplomatic ability. He also proved advanced military ability by defending cities
against French Gen. Rochambeau. One specific battle was at La Croix, during which L
Ouverture fought off Rochambeau s force which far outnumbered his own (304). Dessalines
and Christophe also proved very capable and they worked cohesively with each other and with L
Ouverture .Г‚ L Ouverture s leadership empowered the Haitian people and the slave armies and
his reputation had such a lasting effect that he became a heroic figure for anti slavery activism
in the U.S. He was described by some activists in the mid 1800s as being among history s greatest
men (Clavin 38).Г‚ His character became a symbol of anti slavery idealism and, on a larger
scale, of racial equality (35). L Ouverture was proof of the ability of black men to achieve feats
comparable to white men, showing that the races were equal (38). His success had revolutionary
implications because this was the first time a black slave population had ousted a white population

The Onset Of Bulimia Nervosa
The purpose of the study is to identify what may be the onset of bulimia nervosa and whether or
not it is related to a person being subjected to criticism based on their weight/ shape and eating
habits. This is the first of studies that take a look at a year prior to having bulimia nervosa. This
study was conducted through a control case study which is a study that looks at both a group that
does have a disorder and a group that does not have the disorder. It also determines if a factor
affects either of the groups and how that factor affects it. The study observed three separate group
of women. The women with eating disorders were recruited from eating disorder treatment settings,
which were women who were previously diagnosed with bulimia nervosa. The healthy women
along with women with a psychiatric diagnosis were recruited from high schools and university
campuses. A total of 180 women were observed. The first group of sixty women was women
who had bulimia nervosa and ranged between the ages of 15 38. The second group, which were
the healthy women, their age ranged from 15 39. The healthy women reported not being
diagnosed with any disorder. The last group of sixty women s ages ranged from 14 38 and they
were diagnosed as having psychiatric disorders. The study was done on all Caucasian women.
Women were excluded if they were pregnant, had physical conditions or psychosis (mental
disorder). For the healthy women, they were first evaluated with the DSM IV to determine no

Thermal Fracture Lab Report
Giselle Torres Period 1 November 29, 2017 Thermal Fracture of Rocks Lab Background:
Naturally, rocks go through a process in which they are broken down into smaller sediments of
rock. This process is known as Mechanical Weathering. Physical weathering, on the other hand, is
the same process but without changing their chemical composition. Physical weathering is
caused by changes of temperature in which results in rocks being fractured. A type of physical
weathering is heat fracture. Heat fracture is the result of a rapid change in temperature. Sudden
exposure to high temperature causes expansion and when it cools the rock contracts which then
leads to the breakage of the rock. Frost Wedging is also very similar to heat fracture. Frost
wedging pries apart a rock by having water seep in through cracks and wedges of a rock. The
water will then freeze due to extreme temperatures. This creates internal stress in the rock, causing
it to shatter. For heat fracture, the way a rock is fractured is slightly different. During the day a
rock would be heated. Since rocks are poor conductors of heat, the exterior of the rock heats... Show

If a rock is rapidly heated then cooled quickly multiple times, then the outer layer of the rock will
break down faster because the change in temperature will cause it to expand and contracting
making it undergo more stress, weakening the bonds. The data shown supports the hypothesis. In
the data, the first rock, coquina, took 9 minutes and 20 seconds for it to fracture. Then the
obsidian rock took 30 minutes and 27 seconds. And finally, the marble rock took 27 minutes until
it fractured. The graph shows that the longer time spent heating and cooling in separate beakers,
the longer it took for the rock sample to fracture. It is noticeable that the trendline goes upwards
since all three points of data increase. If another set of data were to occur, the trend will still be the

  • 2. Mountain Man Quotes Her scream went on, only to end in sudden silence as she struck the rocks 200 feet below (Saul 35). The book I am reading Guardian is about a string of accidental deaths of people at the El Monte ranch and Sugarloaf campgrounds. Two of the deaths just so happen to be Maryanne Carpenter s very good friends and put a giant twist in the lives of her familyand her friends son who is also her godson. Not only is Maryanne now responsible for Joey she was also left a fortune because of the deaths. In this journal I will predict what the is actually murdering the people in sugarloaf, I will question who the mountain man is, and will evaluate the reasons for which Joey is under a watchful eye and why some people, including himself, suspect his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First off, every time there has been a death in Sugarloaf no one knows where Joey was at the time of the deaths. In the case of his fathers death no one was around so Joey could ve spooked Shieka, which caused her to step on Teds head killing him. Then as his mom was searching for him in the woods during the night something jumped out of the woods and knocked her over the edge of the cliff. In the case of the campers death he had ran off because he was frustrated but showed up later on. And lastly as Bill Sikes the caretaker was looking for Joey after he had ran off, Bill was brutally killed, his head barely attached to his head like he was a prisoner being executed. в є Even the next morning Joey woke up in bloodstained clothes which further gives the illusion that he could be the killer since he is never around when the murders happen. Everywhere dark stains covered his clothes. Bloodstains. Still wet, still sticky (Saul 224). This quote clearly shows that for some reason the morning the Bill Sikes was killed that Joey had wet bloodstains on his clothes but had no idea where they had come from since at the time Joey did not know that Bill had been killed. It s like Joey has an alter ego and when he slips into that other reality he no longer can remember what he is doing or has any control over his actions. Its like Joey is a mad dog. в є Where he ... Worldwide, neurofibromatosis, type one and two (commonly known as NF1 or NF2) affects over two million people. Each year about one in 3500 people are diagnosed with NF. About 40 50 percent of those people have NF one or two because of a genetic mutation tied to the arm of the 17 chromosome. Base pair 29,603,556 to 29,698,600. People with NF have a slightly smaller life expectancy rate than somebody without NF. But, their life consists of physical therapy and surgeries. First, NF has many different symptoms and causes. NF1 causes skin features such as freckling all over the body, toumbers all over the body including the brain, bone abnormalities, nerve and tissue damage. He came down and ate breakfast along with his wife. Shortly after Mrs. Johnson gets ready to head out the doors of her home deciding she will walk around the city. While walking around the big city of New York, Mrs. Johnson saw a small candy store next to a barber shop and a large cinema. After purchasing her full bag of Tootsie Rolls, she left the store extremely content with her purchase. Before Mrs. Johnson went into the store to buy the Tootsie Rolls she recalled seeing a small hot dogstand. She went over to where she remembered seeing it and fortunately it was still there. • 5. Women s Rights Of Female Athletes In 1972, Title IX has banned sexual unfairness not only in education programs, but also in the athletic programs. This federal law applies to all organizations that receive federal funds and must function in an equal manner. Gender equity has been a major problem in our society for quite some time, and now it has migrated to athletics. According to the Office of Civil Rights some keys issues which recipients have Title IX obligations are: recruitment, admissions, financial assistance; athletics; sex based harassment; treatment of pregnant and parenting students; discipline; single sex education; and employment (OCR, 2015). Fair treatment for female athletes has been a huge matter in athletics. The Office of Civil Rights issued guidelines offering equal opportunity rights to all athletes including the temporary disability of pregnant female athletes. Prior to OCR putting this policy to effect there were many reasons universities neglect pregnant female athletes. According to Pitt Law there are a few reasons: first, too many individuals in society believe sport is pervasively masculine organization that is constructed around men. Secondly, women s ability to reproduce is used against them to exclude them from sports. Furthermore, the beliefs of gender and race have long combined to stigmatize young women who have children outside of marriage and in precarious financial circumstances (Brake, 2008). For any athlete committing to a university on behalf of a sport the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Nissan Case Study BACKGROUND The Global Leadership of Carlos Ghosn at Nissan During March 1999, Brazilian Carlos Ghosn took over as the first non Japanese Chief Operating Officer of Nissan, when Nissan had been incurring losses for seven of the prior eight years. Many of the industry analysts expected a culture clash between the French leadership style and his new Japanese employees. Analysts said, because the financial situation at Nissan had become critical so the decision to bring Ghosn in came at the worst possible time. The continuing losses were resulting in debts (approximately $22 billion) that were shaking the confidence of suppliers and financiers alike. Furthermore, the Nissan brand was weakening in the minds of consumers due to a product ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Along with other Japanese manufacturers, Nissan was successfully competing on quality, reliability and fuel efficiency. By 1991, Nissan was operating very profitably, producing four of the top ten cars in the world.Nissan management throughout the 1990s, however, had displayed a tendency to emphasize short term market share growth, rather than profitability or long term strategic success. Nissan was very well known for its advanced engineering and technology, plant productivity, and quality management. During the previous decade, Nissan s designs had not reflected customer opinion because they assumed that most customers preferred to buy good quality cars rather than stylish, innovative cars. Instead of reinvesting in new product designs as other competitors did, Nissan managers seemed content to continue to harvest the success of proven designs. They tended to put retained earnings into equity of other companies, often suppliers, and into real estate investments, as part of the Japanese business custom of keiretsu investing. Through these equity stakes in other companies, Ghosn s predecessors (and Japanese business leaders in general) believed that loyalty and cooperation were fostered between members of the value chain within their keiretsu. By 1999, Nissan had tied up over $4 billion in the stock shares of hundreds of different companies as part of this keiretsu philosophy. These investments, however, were not reflected in Nissan s ... I learned about observational learning at a very young age. Whenever my mother would cook in the kitchen, I would be standing right there just watching how she preformed each task, and yet I learned so much. I even wanted to be a chef at the time because I felt like I could cook anything. Observational learningis definitely will be a benefit to my future goals. I believe I am pretty good at learning this way. When it is time for me to pursue my externship for medical assistant, I will be watching things being done first and then try to mimic exactly what I just saw, so I will be watching closely to try my best to get it right on the first try. ... Pepsi Cola began as a drink developed by a pharmacist named Caleb Bradham in his drugstore in 1893. The soft drink was made to be a tonic to aid in digestion and as a refreshing drink that gives an energy boost. This concoction made of pepsin and kola nuts was originally called Brad s Drink named after its inventor, but was later changed to Pepsi Cola to be more marketable. Originally, this beverage was sold in drug stores and at soda fountains, but was later sold in bottled form to facilitate mass distribution. Indicate conclusions that can be drawn based on the trend: The graphs below illustrate the stock prices of each company based on the timeline. By consulting the above graphs and charts it can be concluded that Pepsi has been a strong competitor to Coke and that throughout history they have been performing at comparable rates. Each has a similar background and customer base, but there are some differences between the two companies and their individual performance overall. It is clear that Pepsi holds a major stake in the market and is somewhat ahead of Coca Cola in market share and productivity. Although both companies appear to be competing neck to neck Pepsi appears to be performing at a slightly higher rate than Coke, despite the popularity of both. Coke is wildly popular and is considered an American institution, but many seek different tastes and this is where Pepsi has been taking some of the market share as some consumers opt for Pepsi as their choice of beverage. Both companies represented in the graphs shown previously are subject to the volatile market changes and increasing prices in commodities and other raw ingredients that each company relies on for their production of their products. As seen in the chart Pepsi is subject to the same market changes as Coke, but performance appears to steady and less erratic in its market fluctuations. Since Pepsi is considered to be less volatile ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Environmental And Environmental Challenges In The... The aquaculture industry has been plagued issues such as water pollution, fish disease outbreaks, destruction of coastal habitat and escapes that have tarnished its reputation and stimulated significant backlash against the industry. In response, the industry turned to placing marine farming systems miles offshore, in deeper waters with large currents to reduce the environmental risks associated with conventional aquaculture. Studies have shown when cited properly with adequate flushing rates, offshore aquaculture operations left a neutral nutrient impact on the water column and had diminished water and benthic pollution. By producing fishin less polluted marine environments, offshore operations can improve the quality of the product, improve market access, and increase profit. However, offshore aquaculture still faces a number of sustainability challenges that jeopardizes the ecological and economical integrity of the sector. Fish Escapes Although offshore systems are designed to prevent any escape events, it cannot be guaranteed that escape will never occur as the sector expands to commercial and industrial scales, even with the risk of massive escape events caused by extreme weather events are mitigated as submersible cages are able to withstand and avoid storms. Escapes can occur from human error during cage maintenance and harvesting, from collision of ships, and vandalism. • 10. Bird Species in Belize Essay This past week in Belize was undoubtedly one of the best experiences I have ever had. In the special topics biology class, I learned so much about the ecology, culture, and history of the newly established country. Not to mention, I obtained a new respect for ornithology and a new interest in birds. About the size of Manhattan and with a population of almost 350,000 people, Belize surprisingly holds approximately 500 species of birds. We were able to spot 135 species of birds during our stay and also learned about a few mutualism relationships. One of the greatest mutualism relationships is between the ants and the bullhorn acacias. The ants live in the hollow bullhorns and protect the tree, making sure there is no vegetation to harm it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By the end of the century, the French Revolution and the Reign of Terror announce to the world that society is taking over the role of God and now people will make laws, give out punishments, and incite terror. The funeral industry is changing from product based to experience based, and from burial to cremations (National Funeral Directors Association [NFDA], 2015; Koop Kemp, 2007; Wolfelt, 2004). Traditional funeral homes started off as having funerals in the deceased homes, then creating buildings that have a home like interiors. The generation at the time was all about the price of the required products; like the price of the casket, what was the casket made of, wood or metal, what was the best price for the burial lots (Steven Kemp, 2007). The industry was previously mostly a product driven industry but, as the industry is changing the funeral service must focus on being customer and experience driven (Wolfelt, 2004). The baby boomer generation is coming, they are sceptical of traditional funerals but want some sort of service and want more information about the entire funeral process and more ideas for personalizing the service (Wolfelt, 2004). Through the generation difference and the changing market that allows for more of an experience customizable space that depends on tradition, customs and beliefs of the customer (Wolfelt, 2004; Parkes Laungani Young, 2003). The baby boomers are more likely to choose cremation for body disposition (Wolfelt, 2004; NFDA, 2015) which provides a market change within the industry. The business of the past is not, and cannot be, the business of the future. But there is a future in funeral service (Wolfelt, 2004). Firstly, in lines 20 23, 28 pathos was used to develop the author s argument about children who prefers learning or creating things versus children who play sports. He used this as an example to appeal to his readers emotions because these children who preferred invention over sports are known as social outcasts and are ostracized for being intelligent or wanting to show off their talent. Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant scientist, attempts to play God in resurrecting a corpse and creating new life. All told, the story provides a cautionary tale of the attempts to play God in regards to scientific advancement. This raises the question of how far is too far in terms of scientific exploration. Before transferring the embryo into the uterus, some fertility clinics offer patients the option of choosing what sex embryo they want. This seems both futuristic and controversial but Codington Lacerte argues that prenatal sex selection methods allow parents to make informed choices about the makeup of their families (Codington Lacerte, Point: Sex Selection ). This type of eugenics is seemingly harmless because in choosing a sex for their child, parents aren t really damaging society. For a Reservist to obtain this qualification it is even harder. The Coast Guard has tried to ease this by allowing Reservists to attend Coxswain C school. However, while they are attending the school, another policy is quietly wading in the waters for the perfect time to strike. This is the policy that states that the hours these members earn while underway on a standard Coast Guard boat, while at school, do not count towards their currency maintenance hours for the crewman qualification that they are operating under while at the school. In District 9, most of these members end up losing their certifications after returning to their units because there is not enough time left in the boating season to obtain the hours they need to retain their qualification. This is causing a time consuming process to recertify, it is demoralizing to the member, and it is a waste of Coast Guard money. • 32. Presuppositional Apologetics In our last episode, I gave you four purposes for apologetics. In this one, I d like to flesh things out a little more, so you will have a firm grip on just what we are doing when we practice apologetics. We ve established that what we re trying to do is provide a rational defense for the Christian faith. But there are different approaches, which we can split into two camps. Now, while some may argue over which approach is best, I am convinced that they both have merit and so will use whichever seems to be appropriate for the occasion. The two camps are: presuppositional and evidential. The first, presuppositional apologetics, isn t inclined to wrestle with scientific data like cosmology, biology and the like. Made popular by the Cornelius Van Til , this approach doesn t see the need for such evidences due to the presupposition that the unregenerate mind cannot comprehend the truth of... This suppression of the truth is the reason that God turns them over to the lusts of their hearts and thus their thinking became nonsense, and their senseless minds were darkened. • 33. The Damnation Is Released March 10, 2014 As An Advocacy... DamNation DamNation was released March 10, 2014 as an advocacy documentary film. DamNation s main topic is presenting and challenging the changing ideas and opinions of the large systems of dams in the United States. The movie is in full support of the growing environmental strategy of Dam removal in hopes to restore river ecosystems from coast to coast. There are 75,000 dams in the US today, and have been part of American culture for many years. As the demand for electricity grew the government looked into hydroelectric power that could be produced from these dams. These dams were also used to back up water for towns to use as a water source and to also redirect water for irrigation purposes. The US Army Corps of Engineers headed many of these projects for the government and when World War II came about dams starting popping up everywhere to power project to build planes, ships, bombs, and other material for war. But quickly after the war many of the dams became obsolete and not even worth the cost it would take to re open and run them. That is where the film comes into play advocating to remove and demolish these obsolete masses of concrete and let the rivers flow. The dams being built took away many amazing and flourishing fisheries and Indian grounds. Salmon and other wild fish struggling to get back upstream to their spawning grounds as fish ladders in the dams either were too hard to navigate or simply did not exist. Racquetball proves to be great exercise, but can also be a great learning experience. My time throughout the class has been a wonderful learning experience. After completing the racquetball course I will have learned plenty in which I can apply to my futurelife. Before my enrollment in racquetball I had little to no knowledge of the sport. If someone had asked me to describe the sport as a whole I would not have been able to adequately do so. Having no knowledge of the rules, terminology, or tactics behind the game, one could conclude that I knew next to nothing about racquetball. During the length of the course I spent much of my time on the court learning, improving, and developing an understanding of the activity. I have developed an appreciation for the game and those who play it. Racquetball itself proves to be much more complex than what I had originally though. Cleary simply hitting the ball does not prove to be an proficient play style as I had once assumed. This will no doubt defer me from making assumptions about other sports in the future. This was a worthwhile learning experience as a whole, and developing an appreciation for the game is not the only thing I will take away from this class. Alongside debunking any misconceptions I once had, racquetball also reinforced the importance of diet in the everyday lifestyle. Aside from the countless things learned on the court, I ... • 36. Thomas Paine And The Age Of Revolution Benjamin Franklin once said, Where liberty dwells, there is my country . What did he mean by this statement? It s a way of saying that where he lives, America, there is liberty. To claim the location of liberty to be one s country, is to say that the location of one s loyalty is dependent on the location of liberty. The location of liberty was crucial to Franklin, to colonists. In the Colonial Period, colonists arrived from Europe in search for religious freedom, land, and the chance for wealth. But even so, Europe governed newcomers; this resulted in anger and rebellion. A period in early American history that occurred in the creation of a new, independent nation. This then extended to another important time in history, a time in which the first pamphlet to advocate American independence was published and seen. Thomas Paine helped shape the ideas of the Age of Revolution. He outlined ideas of the superiority of the monarchial system, the equality of right s among citizens, and of the significance of the American Revolution. He was a man that fought for freedom, fought for independence. Paine transformed the struggle over the rights of English people into a contest with meaning for people everywhere (History). Learning from their mistakes and capitalizing on the positive aspects of different colonies can lead to the successful formation of a new colony in Illinois. From what we already know, each colony in the New World was for the most part different. Some were driven by religious ideas others were driven by the prospect of wealth. While colonies shared some similarities, each had its own set of rules, policies, and way of life. Colonies such as Pennsylvania and Massachusetts were vastly different even though they were both northern colonies and religion was a driving force in the development of their colonies. There were also colonies that were developed in hopes that prosperity was to be had by means of trade and cultivation. This capitalist model was used by the colonies of Virginia and New Netherland(New York). However there were colonies that simply did things their own way that was separate from everyone else. One of those colonies were Carolina, which was setup by eight proprietors, businessmen, who hoped to rule every aspect of their colony from government to religion this was now as the feudal model. The other colony was Georgia, who took English debtors to work off their debts as part of their colony and as a hope to alleviate the overpopulation in British settlements in the Caribbean, this was the philanthropical model. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As corruption is seen as a cheaper alternative to fixing the problem. I believe that developing nations are better off without mining majors in operation within them because of the possibility for government corruption. Developing nations are better off without mining majors because the country is seen as a target for large revenue gains, the Global Business Standards Codex and fair treatment of local people can often be disregarded at the expense of profits. Artisanal miners live in or around mines and generally do all of their work by hand, including the extraction of ore, to make a living. As these people live on the mine, if a company wants to buy the mine then they have to move the whole town elsewhere. In accordance with the fairness principle, which has always been involved with ethical thought (Paine et al. 2005), the mining company should provide housing for the artisanal miners. However, by doing this, the company is taking the miners away from their source of money and livelihood, which creates an imbalance. An example of this is the Canadian mining company in Essakane, Burkina Faso (Siegel 2013). As global mining companies seek new avenues of revenue they are increasingly turning to the developing world. Whether you are judging how your new professor for the semester will be, or if you are studying your best friend for a project, personality is studied abundantly. While there are many ways to define personality, there is not a worldwide definition around. Personality is the unique combination of patterns that influence behavior, thought, motivation, and emotion in a human being (boundless.com). That is one of many ways of defining personality. When examining personality, there are four main approachable theories including: The Psychodynamic Approach, The Trait Approach, The Social Cognitive Approach, and The Humanistic Approach. The Psychodynamic Approach was first approach by Sigmund Freud; he dealt with the understanding that personality came from our unconscious state of mind. And that unconscious state interacted to determine our thoughts, behaviors, and feelings (Bernstein, 425). Freud also created the psychoanalytical theory stating that personality led the way to handling psychological disorders. He divided personality into three main topics; which are the id, the ego, and the superego. The id is the basis of each human being s instincts we are all born with. It is the immediate wants I crave; it may show more selfish side. The ego is the part that subdues the id and calms it down. • 42. Discrimination In Race By Marc Aronson Freedom from Discrimination Today, India is a free country, but this country s history to freedom was not pleasant. Britain, a country that occupied many territories, came to conquer India for its valuables. During this time, they treated Indians poorly and stole all the goods of the country to trade. This rule continued for nearly two hundred years, and India struggled to fight for freedom from 1857 to 1947. On August 15, 1947, India finally gained its independence through the India Independence Act passed by the British House of Common. The British House of Commons is the UK parliament that is part of the legislative branch. The act stated that India would be divided into two dominions, India and Pakistan , thus granting Pakistan independence on August 14 and Indian independence on August 15. Marc Aronson, in his book Race, explores and examines the concept of race where the reasoning behind racial discrimination can be seen. Firstly, he tries to give answer on question whether Jesus is always the same or he has changed in history and whether we can learn anything about him from history. To this question Kierkegaard responds: Yes, He is the same yesterday and today. [10] Therefore we can not learn anything new about him from history; we can know him only from sacred history. • 53. Thermal Fracture Lab Report Giselle Torres Period 1 November 29, 2017 Thermal Fracture of Rocks Lab Background: Naturally, rocks go through a process in which they are broken down into smaller sediments of rock. This process is known as Mechanical Weathering. Physical weathering, on the other hand, is the same process but without changing their chemical composition. Physical weathering is caused by changes of temperature in which results in rocks being fractured. A type of physical weathering is heat fracture. Heat fracture is the result of a rapid change in temperature. Sudden exposure to high temperature causes expansion and when it cools the rock contracts which then leads to the breakage of the rock. Frost Wedging is also very similar to heat fracture. Frost wedging pries apart a rock by having water seep in through cracks and wedges of a rock. The water will then freeze due to extreme temperatures. This creates internal stress in the rock, causing it to shatter. For heat fracture, the way a rock is fractured is slightly different. During the day a rock would be heated. Since rocks are poor conductors of heat, the exterior of the rock heats... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If a rock is rapidly heated then cooled quickly multiple times, then the outer layer of the rock will break down faster because the change in temperature will cause it to expand and contracting making it undergo more stress, weakening the bonds. The data shown supports the hypothesis. In the data, the first rock, coquina, took 9 minutes and 20 seconds for it to fracture. Then the obsidian rock took 30 minutes and 27 seconds. And finally, the marble rock took 27 minutes until it fractured. The graph shows that the longer time spent heating and cooling in separate beakers, the longer it took for the rock sample to fracture. It is noticeable that the trendline goes upwards since all three points of data increase. If another set of data were to occur, the trend will still be the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
