Pacific Ocean Waste Management
In the Pacific Ocean, there is an island made completely out of garbage. It is so big that it is called the
Great Pacific Ocean Patch. Scientists even found that nine percent of the island is made up of dead
fish. The patch weighs about seven million tons, which means that there are 630,000 tons of fish on
that one island of garbage. Scientists also say that the patch could possibly double within the next ten
years. The patch is estimated to be the size of Texas to twice the size of the continental United States
(Moore). This issue needs to be resolved quickly and efficiently. One way to resolve it is to improve
the level of waste management used across the world. Waste management is a solution to all kinds of
pollution. The level of waste management in the United States and around the world is unacceptably
low. Many people think that waste management is just a garbage and recycling company. Although,
Waste management is the handling of discarded materials, also known as waste or garbage ( Waste
Management ). Waste management is not just a company, it is a global crisis. Waste management is a
process leading to less pollution in the oceans and many other places. It can be the igniter for people
in the world to go green and preserve the environment and the animals in it. The Barents and
Greenland Seas are north of the United States and Europe. These seas are hotspots for plastic pileups.
Plastic has been gathering in the Barents and Greenland Seas (Johnston). Due to

The Rhetorical Analysis Of John F. Kennedy
In the early 1960 s, the United States of America was endeavoring major racial complications and
tension, while fighting communism overseas and protecting the nation from nuclear war and weapons.
Fear and doubt overwhelmed the majority of the American people and were desperate for a strong,
courageous leader. Kennedy performed many powerful speeches during his presidency, however, his
most influential speech was his presidential inaugural address on January 20, 1961. John F. Kennedy
provided substantial reassurance when he addressed the nation shortly after being sworn into office.
When attempting to inspire and motivate our citizens, Kennedy proposed that our citizens were being
tempted by war, and successfully appealed to the emotions of his audience. He used this speech to not
only celebrate his victory, but to correspondingly unite the American people. His inaugural speech to
the world on that day imposed a sense of tranquility and confidence in their new leader that was much
needed at the time. It presents a strong presence of ethos, pathos, and logos to effectively accomplish
his goal of speaking to the heart of the audience. My goal in this paper is to successfully evaluate and
examine the passionate speech that President Kennedy performed because he invoked a sense of unity
in order to accomplish lasting harmony. Kennedy s main purpose of the speech was to unite all of his
listeners together. At the time, there were many complications regarding the United States

Hospitality In The Odyssey
One of the many points that can support the idea of The Odyssey as an epic poem is that it is a story
that showcases the morals and values that the ancient Greeks held dear. One of the morals that is
implied by Homer in the story is the importance that the ancient Hellenic societies placed on
hospitality and manners. This trait of hospitality is shown throughout the entirety of the story; and is
shown in the section of the story when Telemachus, a prince, treats his father, who has been disguised
as a beggar, with the utmost respect and manners. The story says that Odysseus moved aside, yielding
his couch, but from across the room Telemachus checked him: Friend sit down we ll find another
chair. (16. 49 50) This action by Telemachus shows the importance of hospitality to the ... Show more

He had nothing to get out of letting the beggar stay in his place and finding another seat himself.
Telemachus doing this tells us that he is just a generous, hospitable prince, and he is supposed to be a
major deuteragonist in the story. As such the story implies that the good guys are polite. Therefore
shining light upon the valued trait of hospitality. Another trait that the ancient greeks valued was
wisdom. This value is used in the Odyssey in multiple instances, but most notably when Odysseus
fools The Cyclops. Odysseus tells Polyphemus: My name is nobody (11. 274); at first this makes no
sense, but after Odysseus has blinded Polyphemus and the other cyclopes come to ask what s wrong,
Polyphemus simply replies with Nobody has ruined me! (9. 317) and the cyclopes leave him be
thinking nothing is wrong. This action is pure genius by Odysseus because the other cyclopes think
that nothing is wrong with Polyphemus, thinking nobody has harmed him. Had he not tricked
Polyphemus, he and his men would ve all been killed by the other

Sentiment Analysis Assignment
Hi Girish, Personally I do like the idea of linking such natural phenomenon to emotions. It would be
great if you can share more about the project you can come to one of project TAs OH once we reach
week 3. The following notes is some open ended questions/thinkings based on your post. Please feel
free to follow up. 1.causality v.s. correlation: The Aristotle explanation gives us a direct casual relation
between celestial bodies and emotions. I m sure you does not buy this much. But it could be a good
question to ask: Whether the celestial events affect our emotions by changing the dynamics of our
body, by some social economic events (e.g. An EMP that interrupts the production) or by the myths or
beliefs only. As you use the word correlation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We have two data set: one is the celestial events and the other is some emotion index/crime index. The
final step of calculating correlation probably won t takes much (well, actually it could be really serious
if you are taking an econometrist s perspective). So I guess you will apply a lot of machine learning
skills for the sentiment analysis? I wonder if it is that necessary since a lot of works have been done
on this. You can check out this, a toolkit from Healey Ramaswamy :
https://www.csc.ncsu.edu/faculty/healey/tweet_viz/ Also, the violences, homicides, suicides reported
sounds like a more reliable data source for this problem (see the next note). I would suggest talking
with a TA to clarify the scope of this project is appropriate. 3.Google Trend Before starting the data
preparation, I would suggest using Google Trend to try out some patterns first. For example,
homicides in news: https://www.google.com/trends/explore?gprop=news q=homicides. 4.Scale of
correlation If finally you find out there is such correlation, I would suggest some quantitive
compaision between daily fluctuation of people s emotion to see how large these disturbances are (so
we can decide if we really need the emergency

The Ruling Leaders of Syria Essay
vThe desire to rule a country, set up a powerful kingdom that could run for a longer time, and names
markup the history is almost every human s wish. Lives, money and so many other precious things
have been put into use to save kingdoms. One such example of ruling the kingdom is in that of Syria.
The Asad family is running the kingdom since decades, four decades indeed. The king runs a rule of
law, modified by him for him, and his powerful allies. Now that the Syrians have had much of the
brutalities and sufferings from the king s government, they at last decided to stand up against the king,
and force him to step down from the throne.

The Syrians planned a peaceful protest against the king, and wanted the king to step down of the
power. The protest lasted. The Syrian thought the protest would make the king to step down from the
throne and would not turn up to be so violent, cause life and home loss and demolish the syria s
infrastructure, things went wrong. In the deepest desire to run the kingdom, and unlike other
democratic Arab governments, the Bashar al Asad administration took to violence to calm down the
protestors. Hence started a civil war in the country that led to killing of millions Syrian. This protest
that is still in its full bloom, left tens of thousands dead, millions left their home, and took their
shelters to neighboring countries like turkey, Lebanon and Jordan. According to a survey, more than
eighty thousand people died, and millions homeless in the twenty four months.
The higher flames from that of the war in Syria need to be stopped. The head of the opposition party,
the al Nusra front is said to have stronger connections with the leader of al Qaeda, Aiman al Zawaheri,
who was senior advisor to late Osama Bin Laden. The Al Nusra front is heavily armed by the the al
Qaeda, and the arsenal provided to them by the al Qaeda is both of light and heavy type. The Syrian
government is therefore facing heavier and stronger offense from the opposition.

Comparing The Hound Of The Baskervilles By Arthur Conan Doyle
The differences are obvious as Arthur Conan Doyle states. (Doyle, 51) As all stories that have been
both stories and books, there will he obviously some similarities and some differences between the
two versions. The Hound of the Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle and the more recent movie in the
2012 TV series Sherlock , are two great examples to compare and contrast story lines. It is these two
pieces that I will be writing about. Returning to Doyle s quote, it is obvious while looking for
differences. It s what makes each version stand out. Now, the differences may alter the story slightly,
but the similarities bring back the most important details back to the same main idea. As for my
opinion on my personal preference, I will be writing about that as well. The differences are what
makes it unique from the other version, while the similarities bring it back to the same story.
Similarities, differences and my personal opinion will be what this essay is about. To keep the same
plot of the two versions of a story there must be some similarities to keep it on the same track. The
similarities are the main ideas that are found in both versions of the stories. Mr. Holmes, they were the
footsteps of a gigantic hound! (Doyle, 30). This quote is found in both the movie and the book. It was
this quote that started the case, as Holmes did not believe the mystery was real. This quote was going
in both versions and it was that quote that started the investigation of the

International Fragrances Essay
International Flavors and Fragrances have a long history before IFF s name was established in 1958.
In 1889 Joseph Polak and Leopold Schwarz from Zutphen, a Dutch town found their first factory.
Their success leaded them to open a second factory in approximate 7 years. They continued to flourish
throughout the upcoming years and for the first 60 years of the 19th century their fame was
unbelievable. It was a period of flavor and fragrances discoveries that served as the mark of what IFF
is today. Ameringen Haebler formed a new partnership in 1929 and for the next 30 years they
continued to operate with an emphasis in fragrances. In 1958 Polak and Schwarz together with
Ameringen and Dr.HaebIer gave birth to International Flavors Fragances Inc. The company becomes

Ameringen suggested that adding fragrances to their products would be a more profitable way and he

Persuasive Essay About Self Trust
Self doubt is a strong, yet underestimated, emotion. It can squeeze into one s brain, filling all cracks of
empty space like a balloon, pushing out confidence and adventure. Fear drives away the yearning to
take risks and leaves one with only the ability to ponder on what could have been. As a child, I
sometimes forgot that taking leaps of faith is important to maintain a joyous lifestyle. When around
new people I kept my mouth shut and refused to cause any trouble. My mom now claims that this was
a good thing, boasting about how I was an easy child. I d beg to differ. My childhood was marked by
the need to lay low, keeping my opinions to myself, staying quiet when others were around, and not
promoting antics or chaos. I was never outgoing unless I was comfortable enough to speak my mind. I
was as dormant as a doornail. My family may have been at the center of this; with my siblings being
five and eight years older than myself, I had a hard time connecting with them on an emotional or
social level. I was David in a house full of Goliaths. My sister graduated high school when I still
played with dolls; my brother got his license when I had yet to reach middle school. I felt like an
outcast in my family and that led me to stay as 3reserved as possible. This mistake led to the inability
of my awkward pre teen self to form new relationships with strangers. There was a point in my life
that changed my perception of my own personality. The summer after seventh grade I embarked

Imagine a world without hope, diversity, uniqueness, heroes and role models. Everybody would have
the same height, shape, voice, skin color, eye color, hair color, clothes, job, interests and so on. They
would most likely live in the same type of home, own the same things, speak the same language and
eat the same food. If a person tried to be unique, the society would try to drag that person down to
society s hopeless status. Personally, I couldn t stand a minute in a world like that. Unfortunately,
worlds like these exist. In Sherman Alexie s The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fist Fight in Heaven, Alexie

It wasn t until that summer I walked across a bright yellow home. Through the windows, I could see

like a stream of water running quietly through the green forest. From that moment, I became inspired
to learn how to play the piano. I decided to take piano lessons with her and made it a goal to learn how
to play the piano. My piano teacher, Ms. Li, was my role model because she showed me that there are
unique and fascinating things people can learn to do in this world. As days turned to months and
months turned into years, I continued to strive to become my inspiration. Many times, I felt like the
Indians on the reservation and just wanted to give up because I felt it was too hard to make it to the
top. Eight years later, I ve completed my piano training. Today, people would always compliment my
style of playing when I would play the piano. Sometimes I would come across a very young boy or
girl who wanted to learn how to play the piano after they heard me play. I told them, If you put your
mind to it, you can do anything. My piano teacher has been and will always be my inspiration and role
model. Today, I have become a role model and inspiration for many people who want to learn how to
play the piano. Role models and heroes are important in shaping people s personalities and qualities

Introduction Nyla Yaites is an African American female, four years and eleven months of age. Nyla
was chosen for this case study because she seems to be a very interesting young girl. We attend the

very excited about observing her for this case study. Since she was two years old, Nyla has attended

has been suggested that fathers attachment role during the preschooler years helps to challenge the
child in a supportive context that complements the mother s role in caring and comforting (Roggman

Inventions Of Alexander Graham Bell
ALEXANDER GRAHAM BELL
History ISU June 16, 2017
By: Andrew Monaghan In Edinburgh, Scotland, his parents, Melville and Eliza Grace Bell gave birth
to Alexander Graham Bell on March 3, 1847 (Ross, 8). He would later immigrate to Canada in 1870
settling in Brantford, Ontario (Britannica.com). His mother was a portrait painter and an accomplished
musician and his father taught deaf people to speak (World Book Encyclopedia, 240). His parents
accomplishments influenced him as an inventor (World Book Encyclopedia, 240). Alexander Graham
Bell s invention of the telephone, his creation of the photophone, and his development of the electrical
bullet probe made him one of Canada s most prominent inventors. Alexander Graham Bell is probably
best known for his invention of the telephone. In 1870, he worked with his father as a speech therapist
for the deaf in Brantford, Ontario and this led him to work with how sound was transmitted and
received (thecanadianencyclopedia.ca). The word telephone comes from the Greek words meaning far
sound (Ross, 24). The telegraph itself was a device created by a number of different scientists which
involved passing electrical signals down a wire (Ross, 10). It was this telegraph that led Bell to first
begin experiments for the telephone in 1872 (World Book Encyclopedia, 240). Originally, Bell did not
try the transmission of speech electrically; however, on a single wire he attempted to send multiple
telegraph messages all at once. (World Book

A Personal Leadership Philosophy
The path to a personal leadership philosophy is made up of three parts. Each individual aspect is a
facet of a complete whole. Much like a timeline that includes a past present and future, my personal
philosophy consists of a foundation, action, and growth. If you do not understand where your
foundation of leadership came from you will have problems acting in a leadership capacity. Also if
don t pay attention to how you are acting as a leader you cannot know in what ways you need to grow.
Why should I spend the time and effort in developing myself as a leader? The Gunner s Mate rating
has a strength of just over 600 members. Maritime Force Protection Unit Kings Bay has 31 Gunner s
Mates assigned to it. I have a full five percent of the Gunner s Mates in the Coast Guard that I lead.
During my four year assignment at MFPU Kings Bay approximately 55 Gunner s mates (9.2 percent)
will have been under my leadership. I see that as an enormous responsibility. As a young Gunner s
Mate I saw my senior leadership as people capable of effecting great change on the rating. Now today
I am in the position to have that same impact.
2. The foundation of my leadership philosophy is anchored by a few key influences. The two I will
address here are as polar opposites as they come. ETCM Joe Rowe was the Chief of the Mess in
Valdez, AK as well as the ESD supervisor. Joe taught me about empowering your workforce. He
understood that he was no longer the technical expert within his

Young People Coming Of Age
In many ways, coming of age today is much the same as it was in the 1950s and 60s. Young people in
the Valley grapple with most of the same issues we older folks did. But kids of previous generations
were not subjected to many of the issues they are now, and the environment in which they grow up is
quite different. The bicycle as a mode of transportation for kids has largely been replaced by Mom
carting them everywhere. Free time to play outdoors has been replaced by organized everything.
Working to earn what you need or want has been replaced by fundraising. And as always, there is
pressure to conform to whatever the current social norms are.
I ll let the young people take it from there.

Don t get me wrong, it s awesome that as kids we are pushed to work hard and that we are surrounded
by very intelligent people. However, many times it gets to be way too much.
Also, growing up here gives you a relatively naive view on the world. We live in a very rich and
privileged area. We have no idea what the real world is like. I wasn t even going to mention it because
it seemed so normal to me, but the reality is, most people do not have the newest iPhones and iPads.
Most people don t own MacBook pros or have their own Google Glass. It s not normal for your high
school s parking lot to be filled with cars that cost over $30,000.
There is a huge divide between the wealthy and the working class, and the area is extremely
expensive. Our teachers can t even afford to live in the area. Some of them drive over 2 hours every
morning just to get to school. There are also a lot of kids that live in East Palo Alto who attend Palo
Alto High School. Their lives are drastically different from ours. There is a huge divide between the
kids living in East Palo Alto and the kids living in Palo Alto. Although people are generally accepting,
there is definitely this idea of them not being as good as us. If your parent isn t an engineer, doctor, or

Malcolm Of The Malcolm X Journey
The Malcolm X Journey
Malcolm Little was born in the mid twentieth century, these were difficult times for the black youth.
As Little grew older he knew there needed to be change, he was one of the few people that was
capable of making that happen for the fellow African American and African. At a very young age
Malcolm grasped the concept that there s something not right, that there needed to be an alteration and
thus is where he started his studies. Malcolm needed to be outspoken he wanted to achieve a certain

basic education. In the midst of his devotion to start a revolution, Malcolm Little s father was killed.
The rage and anger he had took over him and Malcolm became rebellious. Malcolm let go of all his
dreams that he once had and he became a troubled child and started committing felonies targeting
white people, such as armed robbery, burglary. In 1946 he was arrested, it was then and there where he

covered in similar industries if we want to use the same WACC. 9. The hurdle rate is usually used to
classify reasonable investments and a single rate could lead to wrong decisions. Risky investments
may appear more profitable as they actually are and less risky projects may appear less reasonable and
profitable. 10. This could increase the operating risk and so affect the profit in a negative way. It only
could be favorable if all projects would have the same beta factor. 11. Hurdle rates are the required

Divisional hurdle rates are sometimes used because firms are not internally homogeneous in terms of

Wake Forest Baptist Health History
Research Paper: Wake Forest Baptist Health I chose to research about the history behind Wake Forest

Wake Forest University s School of Medicine in 1902, they decided to expand the biomedical and
materials sciences with improved technology by innovations of the Wake Forest Baptist Health

Nursing As A Nursing Career
Nursing is a very intriguing profession with an open door to many new opportunities. While in the
field many exciting experiences may come at you. The medical field has always interested me, but I
was never quite sure on what career would suit me best and was the right one to pursue. There are
many nurses in my family: my mom, sister in law, my cousin s wife Taylor and my aunt Julene. After
hearing all of their exciting stories I decided that nursing is the perfect career. It provides a great place
to start at and expand to bigger and better things. In nursing you never know what is going to happen.
There is constant excitement and challenge in a nurse s life. As weird as it may sound, I enjoy being in

After searching through the ASVAB Career Exploration and looking at Career Cruising, they both
pointed to a career in the medical field, specifically the direction of nursing. The opportunity to take
the ASVAB test was provided by the school and upon completing it and going onto the ASVAB
program website I took the FYI (find your interests) test. My interest code was ECS which stands for
enterprising, conventional, and social. Enterprising activities allow you to take a leadership role.
Conventional activities require attention to accuracy and detail. Social activities allow you to use your
skills and talents to help, teach, and counsel others. When searching through the careers that fit this
code, nursing was a match. (ASVAB Career Exploration Program) The education needed to become a
nurse varies. According to ASVAB, about 23% of people with this career have a bachelor s degree.
Although there are other education options, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is the most
practical and preferred choice. This degree provides a positive outlook when looking to progress
forward with other career options. Four year programs prepare RNs for nursing jobs and most require
students to get experience in clinical settings. The first two years of education often concentrate on
psychology, human growth and development, biology, and anatomy and physiology. The final two
years focus more on adult acute and chronic disease, maternal/child health,

Online Electration Schools
Online illustration schools allow future alumni to earn a degree from the comfort of their home. The
demand for online art schools have increased dramatically and many universities now offer various
online programs. As with brick and mortar schooling, online illustration classes have both pros and
cons that you must take into consideration before you make your finial decision. One of the biggest
draws for online degrees in any field is that you can obtain it without leaving your home. No more

Hydrated Salt Experiment
Abstract:
The purpose of this experiment was to find the amount and percent of water in a hydrated salt.
Hydrated salt contains water molecules chemically bound to it while anhydrous salt is a substance that
fire can readily remove the water molecules. Using the gravimetric analysis method, the sample salt
was measured, heated, and was measured again after cooled down to room temperature; this procedure
allowed the weight of water lost in the salt to be obtained. After two trials, the water in the salt was
determined to have an average percent water of 35.04%. The null hypothesis, the heat will not affect
the amount of water lost, was rejected ,however, the alternative hypothesis, the heat will allow for
there to be water lost, was not supported.
Purpose of this experiment was to find the amount and percent of water in a hydrated salt. Also, to
successfully determine percent error and standard deviation. Hydrated salts are substances that occur
naturally who usually contain an amount of water molecules chemically bonded to the compound. A
few hydrated salts have weak bonds within the water molecules which allows heat to remove the
water molecules creating an anhydrous salt. Hydrated salts that lose water molecules to the
atmosphere without a heat source are known as efflorescent. Salts that readily absorb water are called
deliquescent. An example of an anhydrous salt would be Magnesium Sulfate or also known as Epsom
Salt. Epsom salt separates under heating and becomes

The Bourne Identity Essay
The Bourne Identity
In this essay, I compared the book, The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum and the film of the same
name, directed by Doug Liman. The main character Jason Bourne was played by Matt Damon and
Marie St. Jacques is played by Franka Potente. The book and movie were extremely different from
each other. The book had more detail of the overall story, easier to comprehend and had character
build up. While the movie seemed to only be interested in the action. I thought the book to be more
fulfilling in its story and the movie to be predictable and tedious (considering I fell asleep). It didn t
take long to notice they were completely different. I wasn t prepared for the movie to be so off from

Washburn studied and made Jason Bourne wait until he thought he was fit to go out into the world, for
instance he made him go on a fishing trip with the hardest fishing crew around to prove his was ready.
As always, Jason Bourne proved he was ready for anything. Geoffrey Washburn was never seen or
mentioned in the movie which like I said was a great disappointment, because that was the upbringing
of Jason Bourne. He is partly responsible to creating the new Jason Bourne. He is also the a great help
to Jason Bourne while he tries to find out who he was, and what he was. Another thing that is in the
book, is the character Marie St. Jacques who was first Bourne s hostage. Who was in Swedish women
working for the Canadian government. In the book she was very intelligent and sharp. She was able to
escape from Bourne and then was caught by the cops. She was used by the cops to find Jason and once
they found him, they tried to kill her. Though to her surprise Bourne had been following her and saved
her. She then felt like she had to be by his side and help him find his identity and then quickly fell in
love with him. None of what I said above happened in the film. In the film She was bribed into

The Violation And The Protection Of Privacy
In today s world the increased dependence on technology and the internet in particular, has
transformed both the violation and the protection of privacy. Some might argue that the concept of
universal individual privacy is nonexistent today; but on the other hand the global privacy rights
framework has never been so sophisticated.
We exchange personal information for sheer ease of use and more personalized services. This is the
kind of exchange we readily approve of on the internet on a daily basis. Accepting the terms and
conditions of the privacy policy agreement of say Facebook or Google; gives them access to your
preferences and interests leading to a more enriched and involved user experience. We seldom think of
the implications of just handing over the access to our personal data especially on the social media but
computer scientists and policy experts believe that such innocuous bits of self revelation can be
amassed overtime and reassembled by computers to help create a picture of a person s identity.
The crux of the argument is, your personal information is less valuable to you than it is to companies
who come up with increasingly invasive techniques to fish data from the user. To fully understand the
privacy bargain everyday on the web, let s take a look at a simple policy agreement. By reading the
above article, you give company X complete control to view and examine your choices, to sell
knowledge gained and supply it to a third party without limitation.

The Chinese People s Liberation Army Essay
The Chinese People s Liberation Army: Ground Forces (PLAGF) began a massive military
modernization in the 1980 s and they have been continually reforming their training and education of
their ground forces ever since. Senior officials within the People s Liberation Army recognized that
improving the military skills and raising the education levels of both officers and troops alike were
necessary prerequisites if they wanted to be able to utilize more advanced weaponry and fight in this
day and age.
During the modernization of the People s Liberation Army funding was increased for military
education, the study of foreign militaries was incorporated into their training curriculum and contacts
with foreign military academies was increased. The leadership of the PLA focused their education
reforms on the military academy system. They also changed the scope of their training from being
highly politicized and emphasized in single unit infantry troop training, to concentrating on training
officers capable of directing combined arms warfare.
The Revival of the military academies system began in 1978, which the Cultural Revolution had
devastated. (Mao Zedong china s communist leader launched his plan to reassert his authority over the
Chinese government which is known as the cultural revolution.) By 1984 the military academy system

Dysfunctional Family Dynamics And The Integral Value Of...
Examples of dysfunctional families can be seen everywhere in society on television, in movies, in
music, and of course, in literature. Many books have recently been published that include complex,
conflicted families. The purpose of using dysfunctional families in popular literature is to make the
story more relatable, show different views on the traditional family dynamic, and to spark interest with
readers. These three intentions are shown in both George RR. Martin s Game of Thrones and Alice
Munro s Who Do You Think You Are?. Both works contain complex characters that illustrate
abnormal family dynamics and the integral value of dysfunctional families in literature. This idea of
dysfunction among families can be seen in the Lannister and Stark families in Game Of Thrones and
Rose s immediate family and her husband in Who Do You Think You Are?. The Lannister family in
George RR. Martin s Game Of Thrones are one of the most powerful and rich families in the series.
They are a prosperous dynasty and live the lives of kings and queens. However, they are also one of
the most dysfunctional families in all of literature. The lives of the Lannister family are filled with
incest, betrayal, murder and destruction. The Stark family are yet another example of dysfunction in a
family structure seen in Game Of Thrones. Rose s family in Alice Munro s Who Do You Think You
Are? are the cause of her having a very sad childhood. She resides with her father, his second wife
named Flo and

Wild Style Essay
Wild Style is a hip hop film that was produced by Charlies Ahearm in 1983. This movie is considered
to be one of the most influential films in a hip hop history, because it is the first hip hop motion
picture and has main elements of hip hop in it. After the soundtracks of the movie had been released,
people started to know more about a culture of hip hop. The movie plot also makes it even more
interesting. This movie travels back in time to the period that hip hop was not well known and was
among a small group of people. Zoro is the New York City boy who has a passion for hip hop culture,
especially graffiti. Even though other people disagree with his decision, Zero still tries to prove his
belief when he is hired to paint a stage on a hip hop concert event. The several elements of hip hop are
seen in this movie and are all interacted as he says [Graffiti artist] makes those letter dance (2). In this
paper, I will illustrate how Wild Style shows the interconnection of two main hip hop s elements that
are mostly involved in this film: graffiti and breakdancing. First of all, graffiti is a hip hop s element
that can be seen throughout the film. As a matter of fact, we first see it in a very beginning of the film.

however, are not purely entertainment like they should have been. Today s societies are more

Fear And Bravery, By Neil Gaiman s Coraline And Lois...
Fear and bravery often go hand in hand in children s fantasy literature, in which the child protagonist
must overcome their fears in order to earn their bravery and save the day. With this in mind, Neil
Gaiman s Coraline and Lois Lowry s The Giver are no exception to said rule. In Gaiman s Coraline,
the young protagonist must save her parents from the clutches of the evil Other Mother in the
fantastical Other World that sits in Coraline s own home. Whereas in Lowry s The Giver, young Jonas
must find a way to escape his frightening community which prides itself on conformity, or sameness
as Lowry notes in the novel. Although the conditions in which the child protagonists in both novel
face vary quite drastically from one another, both children must face their fears in a fantastical world
that in essence, encourages and empowers them through the means of individualism and identity, fear,
and ultimately courage. In her article, Susan G. Lea notes that the secondary worlds created in fantasy
encourages [one] to compare and contrast the real world with the imaginary. In this way, fantasy as a
genre can be transformative (51). In Gaiman s Coraline, it is the fantasy world known as Other World
that encourages Coraline to distinguish the real world from the imaginary and allows her to essentially
discover herself. For instance, throughout the novel Coraline is constantly being called the wrong
name but her real world neighbours. A name is a powerful tool in establishing

Essay on Reader Response Criticism to God s Determinations
Reader Response Criticism to God s Determinations
For the reader demanding either rational sense or aesthetic pleasure from poetry, reading the preface to
Edward Taylor s God s Determinations is humbling in ways unintended by the 17th century Puritan
minister and poet. Rationality per se seems rejected at the start, where we are asked first to
comprehend Infinity, and then to envision it (everything) beholding all things (also everything).
Things get no clearer as we progress, as we find whatever infinity beholds in not everything but
nothing, and that nothing itself to become the building material for all. Identifying the paradox,
perhaps, as that which begins the Biblical account of the Creation, ... Show more content on

Granted, logical incoherence might not trouble the reader demanding beauty from a poem, but even
the poem s most vivid images rocks, rivers, curtains, a bright gem of some unmentioned size and color
don t offer nearly the delectable view found in a poem of Taylor s contemporary Anne Bradstreet.
Although Taylor certainly meant to humble his reader in the preface to his long poem, he certainly did
not have a modern rationalist or aesthete audience in mind when he wrote it. His intended readers
were rather his parishioners, 17th century Puritan men and women for whom poetry was more a
rhetorical than an aesthetic exercise, and for whom God s ways were understood to be inscrutable
what we might call irrational to the sons of Adam. Part of a people who left for the New World in
order to enjoy a more perfect relation with their God, now in a third generation Taylor s audience was
beginning to forget what was for an orthodox Puritan their proper place among all things. God s
Determinations was Taylor s way to remind his readers of that place.
Taylor begins his poem by limning the first verses of Genesis, but from line 3 to line 19, nearly half
the poem, he asks questions questions which amplify God s physical might and unimaginable power
while they invite readers to remind themselves of a time (before their recent lapse in faith) when they
had evinced a more proper respect for that power. In this sense, the very senselessness of Taylor s

Veterinary Drug Therapy
The goal of drug therapy in veterinary patients is to produce a specific pharmacological response
while minimizing adverse effects. A patient s response to any given therapy is controlled by variety of
factors including disease, age, gender, body weight, and other environmental factors. In every
population of animals or humans, there is a large amount of variability in the way individuals respond
to drug therapy. From a clinical standpoint, this is an important issue that can lead to therapeutic
failures or adverse drug reactions (ADRs). By understanding the genetic heritability of traits that
influence drug metabolism, clinicians can use this knowledge to individualize treatment protocols and
tailor drug and dose selection to individual needs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(FDA.gov) Cats are particularly sensitive to ADRs, as these animals have been shown to display
several deficiencies in their ability to detoxify, metabolize and transport drugs (Boothe, 1990). An
example of a toxicity seen in feline patients is demonstrated by the use of flouroquinolones, which is
transported by the ABCG2 transporter. ABCG2 is an important component of the blood retina barrier.
The genomic dysfunction of ABCG2 in cats allows accumulation of fluoroquinolones in retinal tissue.
When exposed to UV light, these compounds become toxic and can destroy retinal tissue (Mealey et

  • 2. Pacific Ocean Waste Management In the Pacific Ocean, there is an island made completely out of garbage. It is so big that it is called the Great Pacific Ocean Patch. Scientists even found that nine percent of the island is made up of dead fish. The patch weighs about seven million tons, which means that there are 630,000 tons of fish on that one island of garbage. Scientists also say that the patch could possibly double within the next ten years. The patch is estimated to be the size of Texas to twice the size of the continental United States (Moore). This issue needs to be resolved quickly and efficiently. One way to resolve it is to improve the level of waste management used across the world. Waste management is a solution to all kinds of pollution. The level of waste management in the United States and around the world is unacceptably low. Many people think that waste management is just a garbage and recycling company. Although, Waste management is the handling of discarded materials, also known as waste or garbage ( Waste Management ). Waste management is not just a company, it is a global crisis. Waste management is a process leading to less pollution in the oceans and many other places. It can be the igniter for people in the world to go green and preserve the environment and the animals in it. The Barents and Greenland Seas are north of the United States and Europe. These seas are hotspots for plastic pileups. Plastic has been gathering in the Barents and Greenland Seas (Johnston). Due to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Rhetorical Analysis Of John F. Kennedy In the early 1960 s, the United States of America was endeavoring major racial complications and tension, while fighting communism overseas and protecting the nation from nuclear war and weapons. Fear and doubt overwhelmed the majority of the American people and were desperate for a strong, courageous leader. Kennedy performed many powerful speeches during his presidency, however, his most influential speech was his presidential inaugural address on January 20, 1961. John F. Kennedy provided substantial reassurance when he addressed the nation shortly after being sworn into office. When attempting to inspire and motivate our citizens, Kennedy proposed that our citizens were being tempted by war, and successfully appealed to the emotions of his audience. He used this speech to not only celebrate his victory, but to correspondingly unite the American people. His inaugural speech to the world on that day imposed a sense of tranquility and confidence in their new leader that was much needed at the time. It presents a strong presence of ethos, pathos, and logos to effectively accomplish his goal of speaking to the heart of the audience. My goal in this paper is to successfully evaluate and examine the passionate speech that President Kennedy performed because he invoked a sense of unity in order to accomplish lasting harmony. Kennedy s main purpose of the speech was to unite all of his listeners together. At the time, there were many complications regarding the United States ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Hospitality In The Odyssey One of the many points that can support the idea of The Odyssey as an epic poem is that it is a story that showcases the morals and values that the ancient Greeks held dear. One of the morals that is implied by Homer in the story is the importance that the ancient Hellenic societies placed on hospitality and manners. This trait of hospitality is shown throughout the entirety of the story; and is shown in the section of the story when Telemachus, a prince, treats his father, who has been disguised as a beggar, with the utmost respect and manners. The story says that Odysseus moved aside, yielding his couch, but from across the room Telemachus checked him: Friend sit down we ll find another chair. He had nothing to get out of letting the beggar stay in his place and finding another seat himself. Telemachus doing this tells us that he is just a generous, hospitable prince, and he is supposed to be a major deuteragonist in the story. As such the story implies that the good guys are polite. Therefore shining light upon the valued trait of hospitality. Another trait that the ancient greeks valued was wisdom. This value is used in the Odyssey in multiple instances, but most notably when Odysseus fools The Cyclops. Odysseus tells Polyphemus: My name is nobody (11. 274); at first this makes no sense, but after Odysseus has blinded Polyphemus and the other cyclopes come to ask what s wrong, Polyphemus simply replies with Nobody has ruined me! (9. 317) and the cyclopes leave him be thinking nothing is wrong. This action is pure genius by Odysseus because the other cyclopes think that nothing is wrong with Polyphemus, thinking nobody has harmed him. It would be great if you can share more about the project you can come to one of project TAs OH once we reach week 3. The following notes is some open ended questions/thinkings based on your post. Please feel free to follow up. 1.causality v.s. correlation: The Aristotle explanation gives us a direct casual relation between celestial bodies and emotions. I m sure you does not buy this much. But it could be a good question to ask: Whether the celestial events affect our emotions by changing the dynamics of our body, by some social economic events (e.g. An EMP that interrupts the production) or by the myths or beliefs only. As you use the word correlation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We have two data set: one is the celestial events and the other is some emotion index/crime index. The final step of calculating correlation probably won t takes much (well, actually it could be really serious if you are taking an econometrist s perspective). So I guess you will apply a lot of machine learning skills for the sentiment analysis? I wonder if it is that necessary since a lot of works have been done on this. You can check out this, a toolkit from Healey Ramaswamy : https://www.csc.ncsu.edu/faculty/healey/tweet_viz/ Also, the violences, homicides, suicides reported sounds like a more reliable data source for this problem (see the next note). I would suggest talking with a TA to clarify the scope of this project is appropriate. 3.Google Trend Before starting the data preparation, I would suggest using Google Trend to try out some patterns first. For example, homicides in news: https://www.google.com/trends/explore?gprop=news q=homicides. 4.Scale of correlation If finally you find out there is such correlation, I would suggest some quantitive compaision between daily fluctuation of people s emotion to see how large these disturbances are (so we can decide if we really need the emergency ... (Doyle, 51) As all stories that have been both stories and books, there will he obviously some similarities and some differences between the two versions. The Hound of the Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle and the more recent movie in the 2012 TV series Sherlock , are two great examples to compare and contrast story lines. It is these two pieces that I will be writing about. Returning to Doyle s quote, it is obvious while looking for differences. It s what makes each version stand out. Now, the differences may alter the story slightly, but the similarities bring back the most important details back to the same main idea. As for my opinion on my personal preference, I will be writing about that as well. The differences are what makes it unique from the other version, while the similarities bring it back to the same story. Similarities, differences and my personal opinion will be what this essay is about. To keep the same plot of the two versions of a story there must be some similarities to keep it on the same track. The similarities are the main ideas that are found in both versions of the stories. Mr. Holmes, they were the footsteps of a gigantic hound! (Doyle, 30). It can squeeze into one s brain, filling all cracks of empty space like a balloon, pushing out confidence and adventure. As a child, I sometimes forgot that taking leaps of faith is important to maintain a joyous lifestyle. When around new people I kept my mouth shut and refused to cause any trouble. My mom now claims that this was a good thing, boasting about how I was an easy child. I d beg to differ. My childhood was marked by the need to lay low, keeping my opinions to myself, staying quiet when others were around, and not promoting antics or chaos. I was never outgoing unless I was comfortable enough to speak my mind. I was as dormant as a doornail. My family may have been at the center of this; with my siblings being five and eight years older than myself, I had a hard time connecting with them on an emotional or social level. I was David in a house full of Goliaths. My sister graduated high school when I still played with dolls; my brother got his license when I had yet to reach middle school. I felt like an outcast in my family and that led me to stay as 3reserved as possible. This mistake led to the inability of my awkward pre teen self to form new relationships with strangers. • 15. Inventions Of Alexander Graham Bell ALEXANDER GRAHAM BELL History ISU June 16, 2017 By: Andrew Monaghan In Edinburgh, Scotland, his parents, Melville and Eliza Grace Bell gave birth to Alexander Graham Bell on March 3, 1847 (Ross, 8). He would later immigrate to Canada in 1870 settling in Brantford, Ontario (Britannica.com). His mother was a portrait painter and an accomplished musician and his father taught deaf people to speak (World Book Encyclopedia, 240). His parents accomplishments influenced him as an inventor (World Book Encyclopedia, 240). Alexander Graham Bell s invention of the telephone, his creation of the photophone, and his development of the electrical bullet probe made him one of Canada s most prominent inventors. Alexander Graham Bell is probably best known for his invention of the telephone. In 1870, he worked with his father as a speech therapist for the deaf in Brantford, Ontario and this led him to work with how sound was transmitted and received (thecanadianencyclopedia.ca). The word telephone comes from the Greek words meaning far sound (Ross, 24). The telegraph itself was a device created by a number of different scientists which involved passing electrical signals down a wire (Ross, 10). It was this telegraph that led Bell to first begin experiments for the telephone in 1872 (World Book Encyclopedia, 240). Originally, Bell did not try the transmission of speech electrically; however, on a single wire he attempted to send multiple telegraph messages all at once. (World Book ... • 25. Hydrated Salt Experiment Abstract: The purpose of this experiment was to find the amount and percent of water in a hydrated salt. Hydrated salt contains water molecules chemically bound to it while anhydrous salt is a substance that fire can readily remove the water molecules. Using the gravimetric analysis method, the sample salt was measured, heated, and was measured again after cooled down to room temperature; this procedure allowed the weight of water lost in the salt to be obtained. After two trials, the water in the salt was determined to have an average percent water of 35.04%. The null hypothesis, the heat will not affect the amount of water lost, was rejected ,however, the alternative hypothesis, the heat will allow for there to be water lost, was not supported. Purpose of this experiment was to find the amount and percent of water in a hydrated salt. Also, to successfully determine percent error and standard deviation. Hydrated salts are substances that occur naturally who usually contain an amount of water molecules chemically bonded to the compound. A few hydrated salts have weak bonds within the water molecules which allows heat to remove the water molecules creating an anhydrous salt. Hydrated salts that lose water molecules to the atmosphere without a heat source are known as efflorescent. Salts that readily absorb water are called deliquescent. The Violation And The Protection Of Privacy In today s world the increased dependence on technology and the internet in particular, has transformed both the violation and the protection of privacy. Some might argue that the concept of universal individual privacy is nonexistent today; but on the other hand the global privacy rights framework has never been so sophisticated. We exchange personal information for sheer ease of use and more personalized services. This is the kind of exchange we readily approve of on the internet on a daily basis. Accepting the terms and conditions of the privacy policy agreement of say Facebook or Google; gives them access to your preferences and interests leading to a more enriched and involved user experience. We seldom think of the implications of just handing over the access to our personal data especially on the social media but computer scientists and policy experts believe that such innocuous bits of self revelation can be amassed overtime and reassembled by computers to help create a picture of a person s identity. The crux of the argument is, your personal information is less valuable to you than it is to companies who come up with increasingly invasive techniques to fish data from the user. Examples of dysfunctional families can be seen everywhere in society on television, in movies, in music, and of course, in literature. Many books have recently been published that include complex, conflicted families. The purpose of using dysfunctional families in popular literature is to make the story more relatable, show different views on the traditional family dynamic, and to spark interest with readers. These three intentions are shown in both George RR. Martin s Game of Thrones and Alice Munro s Who Do You Think You Are?. Both works contain complex characters that illustrate abnormal family dynamics and the integral value of dysfunctional families in literature. • 45. Fear And Bravery, By Neil Gaiman s Coraline And Lois... Fear and bravery often go hand in hand in children s fantasy literature, in which the child protagonist must overcome their fears in order to earn their bravery and save the day. With this in mind, Neil Gaiman s Coraline and Lois Lowry s The Giver are no exception to said rule. In Gaiman s Coraline, the young protagonist must save her parents from the clutches of the evil Other Mother in the fantastical Other World that sits in Coraline s own home. Whereas in Lowry s The Giver, young Jonas must find a way to escape his frightening community which prides itself on conformity, or sameness as Lowry notes in the novel. Although the conditions in which the child protagonists in both novel face vary quite drastically from one another, both children must face their fears in a fantastical world that in essence, encourages and empowers them through the means of individualism and identity, fear, and ultimately courage. • 46. Essay on Reader Response Criticism to God s Determinations Reader Response Criticism to God s Determinations For the reader demanding either rational sense or aesthetic pleasure from poetry, reading the preface to Edward Taylor s God s Determinations is humbling in ways unintended by the 17th century Puritan minister and poet. Rationality per se seems rejected at the start, where we are asked first to comprehend Infinity, and then to envision it (everything) beholding all things (also everything). Things get no clearer as we progress, as we find whatever infinity beholds in not everything but nothing, and that nothing itself to become the building material for all. Identifying the paradox, perhaps, as that which begins the Biblical account of the Creation, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Granted, logical incoherence might not trouble the reader demanding beauty from a poem, but even the poem s most vivid images rocks, rivers, curtains, a bright gem of some unmentioned size and color don t offer nearly the delectable view found in a poem of Taylor s contemporary Anne Bradstreet. Although Taylor certainly meant to humble his reader in the preface to his long poem, he certainly did not have a modern rationalist or aesthete audience in mind when he wrote it. His intended readers were rather his parishioners, 17th century Puritan men and women for whom poetry was more a rhetorical than an aesthetic exercise, and for whom God s ways were understood to be inscrutable what we might call irrational to the sons of Adam. Part of a people who left for the New World in order to enjoy a more perfect relation with their God, now in a third generation Taylor s audience was beginning to forget what was for an orthodox Puritan their proper place among all things. God s Determinations was Taylor s way to remind his readers of that place. Taylor begins his poem by limning the first verses of Genesis, but from line 3 to line 19, nearly half the poem, he asks questions questions which amplify God s physical might and unimaginable power while they invite readers to remind themselves of a time (before their recent lapse in faith) when they had evinced a more proper respect for that power. In this sense, the very senselessness of Taylor s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
